4:48 am
current temperatures 56 degrees in san francisco, 59 in hayward. 59 in san jose, and take a look at your daytime highs, yesterday we still had a lot of 80s, and some 90s on the map. today not so much. notice the drop in temperatures of about ten degrees for areas like concord, livermore, 78 degrees. oakland 68, and check out san jose 74. i do want to weekend, and the next five days. what we've got going on here. we've got the first system and it's an upper low tha approaching, that's going to bring the chance to see some light drizzle but it's not going to come in the form of heavy rain. mainly parts north of the golden gate bridge will have a chance of seeing some light scattered showers as we head in toward saturday and sunday, but everyone will notice a drop in temperatures. now, fast forwarding the time line into monday and tuesday, we've got a second system approaching, and now the models are actually trending slightly drier for monday, but a little bit more wet as we head in toward tuesday. the models are showing a couple of showers as we head toward
4:49 am
monday afternoon, becoming more widespread and further inland into tuesday morning, so tuesday is going to be our best bet of seeing a decent amount of rainfall, as we head in towards the next work week. now as far as rain totals, our data is still kind of going back and forth. the gfs model is showing about a quarter of an inch possible of rain into monday and tuesday as well. and then if i take a look at our other model, which is also showing about a quarter, this is our euro model right here. you can see the majority of that rain sticks off to the north bay, but the south bay not really getting much, not from one or the second system, in fact, so we're going to keep a close eye on that, and we definitely have our storm ranger, it's up and ready to go on top of san bruno mountain this weekend. we'll have it up and launched as we get ready to track this incoming rain, but i think the commuters are going to be okay, mike. >> that's good. we'll still watch out for everybody. we always do. over here we have a pretty good
4:50 am
commute, but a couple of things at the bottom of your map here. in san francisco, the continued closure of the transit center, the new transit center is currently closed. the temporary transit center is once again your temporary transit center that may cause delays for folks like muni, golden gate transit, west cat, they go into it as an alternate and of course the closure fremont street, continuing coverage. we also continue to cover this closure. this is a bigger deal in the east bay northbound 880, the nimitz is completely closed but they should be moving the see c arrived to help with the cones and the other overnight roadwork that was going on, clearing that bridge from overhead and west onal boulevard is also an option past all that slowing anywhere north of the coliseum clear by 23rd. the south bay, the peninsula all move smoothly. quick look at the san mateo bridge shows you westbound no

problems that would be your commute as it builds but so far you're at speed and nice flow across that stretch and over here west 580 all the way up the dublin grade you're at speed. back to you. >> thank you, mike. 4:51. this morning, big news from the state capitol, which could change the way you get your seafood. >> it could also put some fishermen out of business. bigad shaban filedhi sacramento. >> reporter: governor brown signed new regulations into law that would eventually ban a fishing net used off the california coast for roughly 40 years. the gear can stretch a mile long and is used to mainly catch swordfish but blamed for unintentionally entangling and killing thousands of other sea creatures including endangered species like whales. our investigators uncovered the impact of the nets two years ago. lawmakers then took notice and today the governor took action. now, the law would pay fishermen
4:52 am
up to $110,000 if they decide over the next year to retire the gear. those that don't would still be forced to stop using the fishing net by january 2023. with the investigative unit i'm bigad shaban. >> you can always get a hold of bigad or anyone, 888-996-tips or logon to our website nbcbayarea.com/weinvestigate. coming up next on "today in the bay," nbc bay area responds. >> tired of robo calls? so are we, but a real solution could be on the way and soon. i'm consumer investigator chmura, nby first, happening no you could soon get your hands on those best selling items from amazon. you'll have to head to new york city to do so. amazon four star just opened for business in the city soho neighborhood. the one-of-a-kind shop is the company's latest attempt at physical retail.

4:56 am
researchers found such calls have doubled since 2017. phone scammers are changing their tactics. they are spoofing caller i.d. to hide behind what looks like a number from your area. it's prompted most of us to just lose all trust in caller i.d., but scammers, they are persistent and greedy. >> they just make more calls. keep trying over and over and over again to get through, and volume as more and more people stop answering the phone or use tools that protect their phones. >> we wanted to know what are phone companies doing to stop scam calls. tonight at 11:00, we'll show you just how easy it is for scammers to trick you with fake caller i.d. and tell you about a a solution on the horizon that could sharply reduce the number of unwanted calls you get. in the meantime call us with your consumer complaints. the number is 888-996-tips or visit nbcbayarea.com/responds. i'll see you again tonight at 11:00. >> thanks, chris.
