5:01 am
when will they open, that's the question. northbound 880 scheduled closure should be picking up now, should be about picked up for north 880 at 23rd. the overhead bridge work that goes on had the freeway closed overnight. international boulevard at westbound 580 has been moving smoothly without problem. you're jammed from the coliseum and high street up past that scene. again we'll check that. chp and cal trans should be clearing shortly. cocoa county the rest of the approach toward the bay bridge moving fine. back to you. >> 5:01, thank you, mike. to the latest from washington, d.c. this morning, republicans on the senate judiciary committee say they are holding a vote on supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh, this follows yesterday's hearing where the world heard from kavanaugh and palo alto professor dr. christine blasey ford. >> certainly an historic day it was, something that many americans have never seen before. the models is a possibility of seeing some light showers but mainly for the north bay to start out on saturday, and then really early on sunday, so aside from the north bay showers really the rest of the bay area is expected to remain dry through the weekend but at least it will be nice and cool. now, as far as the rest of the bay area, when are we getting to see some rain near the south bay and south of the golden gate bridge? our best chance will come in on tuesday, originally the second system approaching on monday was going to bring a good chance of seeing some rain on monday, but now the models are trending a lot drier for monday morning and they're trending a little bit more wet into tuesday, so hey, at least we'll get a chance to see some rain push further into the interior areas as we head in toward tuesday. at least we'll be enjoying some nice cooler temperatures. because we are tracking a developing system sitting just off the west we have watched our mobile doppler radar sitting atop of san bruno mountain and that's expected to track the incoming rain. you could see our futurecast

still could vary and change in terms of timing and intensity as far as the rainfall totals go. over the next seven days, you're going to notice the 60s in san francisco, but check out the temperatures in inland areas. we're only talking upper 70s, and if you notice by the icons i have kept rain chances through tuesday, mike, so i think you're not going to be too busy on monday morning. the rain looks like it's holding out for the commute. >> oh, vianey, you jinxed me. >> oh, no. >> fingers crossed, that will negate the situation. we have the south bay no problems. vianey is talking about the rain coming in over the next few days so we will track that and its effect on the roadways as well. so far dry this morning and a great drive. we have less of a problem now that oakland cleared 880. the nimitz freeway past 23rd, cleared from the overnight closure and that's great news, you're back at speed approaching the bay bridge, the build starting over on the toll plaza side. getting across no delays but watch as you approach fremont the exit there in san francisco, you will slow over the course of

5:32 am
francisco, 68 for oakland, and the interior valleys are trending a lot cooler, in fact about ten degrees lower than our predicted highs from yesterday. yesterday we were in the 90s, today not so much. livermore 78, down through san jose 74 degrees and this is all thanks to an upper low that is approaching, kind of kicking out that ridge of high pressure that kept us warm but this is a welcome site considering we are in fall and we haven't had a chance to enjoy it. so as you head into the weekend i want to help you plan that. i'll have a look at your weekend forecast and some fun things you may want to check out, but let's check in with mike. >> let's check in to see how the bay bridge toll plaza is. look right now, okay, good, it's friday, lighter and later. later build, this may be affected, the san francisco side will be affected by that, you can see the transit center closure for sales force transit center affecting fremont street and as you get off of the bridge, that affects the off-ramp on the right and harrison on the left, sciteway

joins us live from uc berkeley. lot of people are fired up when it comes to this supreme court nomination. >> reporter: good morning to you, marcus and laura. no doubt about it. folks are fired up when it comes to the specific issue that we're talking about, you talk about the historic hearings and as expected, of course, you can hear a lot of opinions here at uc berkeley, the home of free speech. students weighing in on both sides of this issue, but first i want to start off with a rally that took place in palo alto that took place earlier in the day yesterday. of course that is where dr. ford once lived before she had to move out due to threats. now supporters there say that she gave up too much to be considered or to be at least painted as a political operative and are telling her she should come back home. back to what took place here at uc berkeley, that rally taking place on campus. you had supporters of dr. ford there, you can hear them chanting, holding up signs as they march through the campus yesterday. in fact our crews did speak with the organizers and the supporters of this rally as well
5:36 am
as supporters of brett kavanaugh. here's what they had to say. >> it really pissed me off. i don't think, i don't think he should be able to do that, his like ability to try to make himself the victim was really embarrassing, i think. he isn't the victim obviously. she's the victim. >> he's not saying that ford is a liar. he's saying listen, something very well could have happened to this woman but i was not the perpetrator been. >> they had private hearings with judge kavanaugh, public ones and it was never brought up. clearly this is an attempt by democrats to delay the vote until after the midterms. >> reporter: still a lot of variables left in the air when it comes to this issue but we could see morallies like this in the coming days. we're live at uc berkeley, pete sue rah toes, "today in the bay." >> we will bring you that breaking news as it happens. right now we're looking inside at the hall there as people wait outside.

5:38 am
sanchez is live at the evergreen school district headquarters in san jose, one we've been following for quite some time. >> reporter: this is a contract about 16 months in the making, and one that the evergreen teachers association says will help the district retain good teachers instead of losing them to other higher paying districts, and for those parents and students who are listening, this means you might get back to normal with your afterschool activities as well. let's look at some of the specifics of the contract. the contract offers 4.5% in raises over the next three years, with the initial raise retroactive to july of 2017, so teacher also get a little chunk of change. also, lower class size, but that depends on whether or not voters here pass the parcel tax in november. it also keeps art classes for fourth through sixth grade classes. the teachers association and the district have been going back and forth for nearly a year and a half and a deal at one point seemed so impossible that the union members voted
5:39 am
overwhelmingly to strike, though it didn't end up coming down to that. with the teachers being able to go back to school with a contract, they can go back to their afterschool activities, what we had seen in the past and what we have reported to you is that a lot of the teachers without a contract were saying i'm not doing anything outside of the regular school day, meaning no football practice, no afterschool activities, no sitting counsel, anything outside the school hours so hopefully for the students they'll see things getting back to normal as well. in san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> good thing for them. thank you so much there, kris. one of the oldest fruit stands in silicon valley is calling it quits. >> it's so sad. it's a very nice place, nice fruits, nice staff. >> now on sunday, cj olson cherries will shut down its shop in sunnyvale. it has been there since 1932. now the owner, deborah olson has
5:40 am
been working at that stand since the 1950s, back when her grandmother ran the place. she's ready to semi retire and shift the business into wholesale. olson says that the hardest part will be saying good-bye to the hundreds of customers. >> and they came in with their walkers and i saw them and i burst out crying and they started crying because i just saw my grandmother right in front of me, helping them, when i was a little girl. so you know, it's been like that, because this is so much history between our customers and olson. >> so you'll be able to buy c.j. olson fruit at the markets and at their locations in sjc and oakland international airport. >> shop local. the first ever event of its kind taking place this weekend in avia stadium and organized by someone you may have heard of before. >>er this' holding a three-day beach volleyball tournament. it's more than that, it includes wellness and music events. the festival is organized in
