inland valleys and for the north bay napa reaching 75 degrees. we'll talk about a warmer weekend coming up. mike, the update on the closure? >> highway 17 reopened. we just got confirmation of that a few minutes ago. the deal was yesterday, we'll talk about it more coming up an overcrossing got smashed up by a truck. the overcrossing is a problem but the freeway is now accessible. this is the blot some hill overcrossing. you might have heard about highway 9, it is okay. i show you the speed sensors. closer look we'll get rid of the speed sensors the overcrossing at highway 9 currently closed because of damage from the impact yesterday. highway 9 is actually your alternate if you need to get across from one side to the other for highway 17. to the north mark avenue is also open but the issue is here as more folks head toward highway 9 this will impact the area around los gatos high school. again we'll follow that story this morning butay 17

itself has reopened. back to you. >> all right, thanks, mike. developing right now, the stage set in washington for a crucial vote on embattled supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh. >> a lot of folks believe his nomination may still be in the air. u.s. senators are taking a close look at the fbi's report on kavanaugh. it follows last week's hearing on sexual harassment allegations made by palo alto professor christine blasey ford. she alleged sexual assault. the "wall street journal" overnight published an article by kavanaugh trying to walk back his behavior at that hearing. senate democrats are blasting that fbi report. >> to put it bluntly, it smacks of a white wash, even a coverup. >> democrats have been trying to destroy judge brett kavanaugh since the very first second he

was announced. >> that is president trump voicing new support for kavanaugh last night in minnesota. that preliminary tear vote, by the way, is scheduled for 7:30 our time this morning. live to capitol hill and we're watching this morning's developments closely. we have a live report coming up in 30 minutes from washington. nbc news' coverage of the vote begins at 7:30. watch that here on nbc bay area. >> back here at home one year later an east bay family is trying to find answers about their loved one's unsolved murder. >> 37-year-old emily korshane was found shot to death in her uncle's home in byron. here'sto quintana with more. >> she liked dragonflies and this is a drawing over here she did. >> reporter: margely corshane has a her 37-year-old daughter emily in her home. on the shelf urn with her ashes. >> this is where she lives now. >> reporter: emily was in byron taking care of her uncle's

farmhouse but after not le days, marjorie got one for a concerned. >> i called the farm and one of the people went out to check on her and called the police. >> reporter: emily was dead and even now, her mother doesn't know many details about how it happened. >> she was shot, that's all. i don't know where she was shot. they haven't released the autopsy. >> reporter: the contra costa county sheriff's department is handling emily's murder investigation. today the department is asking the public to ask for any tips to help in the case. >> we'd like some closure. we want to know what happened, why it happened, who did this to her. >> sergio quintana reporting. saturday's memorial is planned for 2:00 in the afternoon. if you happen to have any information about emily corshane's murder, you can call theon sheriff's department. progress is being made in a fire-ravaged neighborhood in the

wall street is on jobs watch today as the monthly employment report is out before the opening bell. it's expected to show hiring was strong in september, unemployment expected to fall to an low,3.8% wages are

rising steadily. there is concern the federal reserve could continue to raise interest rates to keep the economy from overheating. the dow had its worst day in nearly two months, the nasdaq falling to 7879. toyota is recalling prius models produced between october 2008 and november 2014. about 830,000 were sold here in the u.s. toyota is not aware of any crashes due to that problem. uber and lyft want to help you get out and vote. they are adding a button to the app on november 6th to find and book a ride to their polling place. lyft is promising something similar, mainly aimed at suburban voters who tend to live outside walking distance to their polls. marcus and kris, over to you.

friday! live look at san francisco - where many people in and welcome back. you're watching "today in the bay" at 4:43 for you this morning and it is friday. take a look at this beautiful look out in san francisco right there. many people in and around the city are talking about that roar and rumble from yesterday afternoon. i want to you take a listen. they're back, we're talking about the blue angels, thrilled people across san francisco yesterday this is doing the practice run for fleet week air show. they also might have rattled a few dogs in the you've seen the,

that air show runs today through sunday, starting each day at noon. the angels will likely take flight between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. also the parade of ships will enter san francisco bay today starting at 11:00 this morning. >> all my family and i spent a couple of days up in san francisco, down in the south bay on fall break and we saw all the setup kind of all the things rolling in and the hotel prices starting to go up, we said it's time to go home. >> that time. >> go in, you come out. that's what a lot of the bay area will be doing, getting ready for all of the things going on and it's going to be a busy weekend. let's get you started on this friday morning with a look at those temperatures that are much cooler right now compared to yesterday at this time thanks to that cold front that moved through. in fact, in napa, it is 17 degrees cooler now than yesterday when you were getting ready to head off to work and in oakland, 4 degrees cooler.

san jose about eight degrees cooler now. with the cooler morning as you get ready to head out in antioch that morning drive you may be turning on the heater. it will be in the mid-50s through about 8:00, mostly clear skies and then we see our temperatures heading into the mid-60s later on this morning. we're heading up to about 79 degrees in concord, and 77 in livermore. also 77 will be the high in morgan hill, and in oakland 70 degrees, and as you take a look at the seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen we will have some slightly warmer temperatures on the way. as you get started right now this morning you need a jacket, and make sure you're wearing something nice and comfortable. you'll probably want to spend a lot more time outside, compared to the past couple of days, when it was so hu it' a nice day to go hiking so as you head out and make plans around the east bay to go out to some of the hikpera res in the upper 50s, still cool as we head through 10:00 and a lot of sunshine, some pleasant weather throughout the day, and as we go through the weekend, the main

concern here will be the winds picking up, coming in from the north and with those gusty winds, we may have an increased fire danger between sunday and monday, high temperatures reaching the low 80s and it does cool down a few more degrees headed into the middle of next week. for san francisco, also windy for the end of the weekend, as our temperatures head up into the low 70s, and then we'll see the return of the clouds and fog and cooler temperatures for wednesday and thursday. now mike, you were talking about the closures on 17. >> that's right, highway 17, so that's the first closure we'll talk about, kari, the first one. highway 17 good news. the overnight closure has cleared in time for our show, just in time to get some southb. blossom hill overcrossing still blocked so you'll cross 17 lark or using los gatos he outh. over here a smooth drive for the south bay and peninsula no problem. the other closure, yes, we were talking about two has been reported over here for kirker

pass road. if you don't know where kirker pass road is, good for you. you don't have to worry about this. if you cut through between highway 4 over toward 242 and 680 toward concord we have a crash involving what i'm told is a horse trailer at concord pavilion. horses are involved as well and it does not sound like they are in good condition at the scene so that will be an issue at the intersection right near the concord pavilion near myrtle. bailey road will cut throughraft it's okay but highway 4 takes you to 242 and 680 which may be a smoother drive. we'll continue to follow that story and see how that affects contra costa county. the rest of the area moves smoothly to the bay bridge without any problems. in the city we talked about fleet week. lot of folks continue to come in through the weekend, want to get to the ships and the air show off the embarcadero the ship tours and the bay bridge taking the folks from the east bay and that travels toward the fremont

street closure and some mapping programs are using that as the route but you can't travel there because the trans bay transit center has the closure at fremont street. you have to take a wider berth but don't take it too wide it takes you to the congestion to golden gate park. lots to navigate this weekend. 4:48 for you. repairs are under way for the trans bay transit center in san francisco but it won't come soon enough to reopen fremont street for the weekend. >> up to 1 million people will be on san francisco's waterfront for fleet week festivities and later we'll look at the possible traffic impact. another story is also emerging at the same time, it is the investigation into what caused those two beams to crack. san francisco mayor london breed and oakland mayor libby schaaf are calling for overnight. the authority is looking into what happened and the mtc is helping to oversee that probe.

dr. jill biden tonight will provide a keynote speech at an event in san francisco. it's happening at the bentley reserve on battery street. that event is focusing on the new effort to convert pier 39's aquarium of the bay ton conservn organizers envision a living museum focused on the environment. columbus day is coming up on monday and the city of san jose is observing the holiday sort of. city worker also have the day off, but it's not called columbus day anywhere. remember earlier this year the city removed a statue of columbus after the debate over his treatment of indigenousre r all columbus day references. one concord shop is closing its doors. the reason, rodents. >> monuments wine and spirits, looks a little different now, all of that food covered in plastic because the shop is temporarily closed because it failed a food inspection. it faces major violations

chmura joins us with an update on the team's latest wins. >> good morning, if you see here each day you know the cases we tackle or large and small. on the high end six figures on the small end we fought to get eight bucks back for a guy in union city. trista in pleasanton wrote us about a $125 shipment of breast milk. it arrived late and the milk spoiled. the delivery company didn't offer a refund but after we called trista got her $125 back. christine in san jose asked for help with a bigger case, paid $1800 through her home warranty to replace hery for almost a year. after we contacted the home warranty company it refunded christine's $1800. dialed us fo help into a dispute over the value of an old smartphone. he traded it in and he felt shorted by more than 100 bucks. after we called the manufacturer, it offered robert

kari. >> i just got off the phone with carl and he's on vacation. so we're going to see some clear skies today, no fog over the golden gate bridge, and as we start out this morning, it's all clear, also for the inland areas. cupertino will start out with a cool morning, and we're going to see that across the bay area, much lower humidity and highs there reaching the low 70s. we're going to see some upper 70s for the inland valleys. 78 in antioch a72boutod the wee coming up but mike, you have some sad news to report out ofo county we talked about the closure for kirker pass road. i'm going to call this a deadly crash, because there's a death related, we'll talk about the freeway getting toward the bay bridge they are just fine. little bit of moisture in the air left over because of the rains we had recently but not causing a problem for visibility. it is an issue for the commute right here. this is the it meaning the crash involving a hor a

pickup. the horse was injured so badly, it did have to be put down. there is a closure for kirker pass road westbound, your commute direction right near myrtle, that's near the concord pavilion, as you get over in toward the rest of the city streets so there's not a great option for you, as i understand it right now. you'll have to take bailey and completely stay off of kirker pass road from highway 4 cutting through toward concord and it's really in the clayton area where the crash is. highway 4 over toward 242 and 680 also options for you and we'll follow this on city streets. meanwhile, the rest of the bay does show a smooth drive. we have a new crash reported 680 around details from after that truck crashed
