ahead at (5-15: we )ll have a live report from jay gray on current conditions and evacuations. the search continues for the gunman who opened fire outside an east bay grocery store, killing a teenager. happened at the "lucky )s" on "east 18th" in antioch yesterday. police aren )t saying much about the shooting except that a "juvenile" was pronounced dead in the parking lot. a man at the lucky )s told nbc bay area )s jodi hernandez the victim is his 16-year-old nephew. happening today: sentencing for the man known as the gypsy hill killer. jurors last month convicted rodney halbower. he was tried in the murders of two teenage girls in san mateo county. both attacks went unsolved for decades. the girls died in 1976. authorities believe halblower is actually responsible for the murders of (6 young women in the mid 70 )s .. in northern california and reno. he is expected to be sentenced to life in prison. new this morning:

san francisco school leaders have reportedly signed off on a new plan .. supporters say will bring more diversity to the city )s top academic high schoo. lowell high is an advanced placement school - one of the top ranked schools in the country. critics say for years .. the problem has been too few african-american students. the chronicle reports board members yesterday voted to open admissions for any qualified applicant from willie brown middle school .. which is predominantly black. lowell bases its admissions mostly on grades and test scores. the district is now facing questions about whether that policy violates state laws. new this morning: valero agrees to pay a six- figure settlement in connection with violations at its refinery in benicia. the bay area air district issued valero 22 notices over about one year for not complying with regulations. half were for exceeding emissions limits. others were tied to leaks in storage tanks or fuel lines. the air district says valero quickly corrected each problem. but will pay 266-thousand

dollars. valero is not commenting on the settlement. the so-called google village ) is the talk of the town in neighborhoods around downtown san jose. today folks can go on the record with their concerns. tonight is a meeting of the station area advisory group ). on the agenda is a discussion of the top issues, opportunities, outcomes.as well as protecting the airspace around san jose airport. there is also an opportunity for public comment. the meeting is tonight at 6pm at san jose city hall. no rain is in the forecast this week.. but campbell still managed to get a downpour. take a look at this new video: " a main break sent water shooting high up into the air yesterday afternoon on elam avenue. campbell police posted this video to twitter. luckily the water was shut off before the road started to flood.

a strange story coming out of russia. the group accused of putting all those fakenews items on facebook.. and other social networks.. during the presidential election was attacked by a fire bomb. the english language "moscow news" says a company associated with the infamous "internet research agency" in saint petersburg was hit with a molotov cocktail tuesday night. this is surveillence video the comapany - now called the "federal news agency" posted to youtube. no one was hurt. back here at home.. google introduced a new tablet and a series of new phones.. at an event in new york city. in many ways this was terrible timing for google.. which is dealing with reports its google plus social network exposed people )s personal data on the internet. google unveiled a new tablet.. and two version of its pixel cell phone.. now called the "pixel 3"

"the tamale lady." she served her tamales across the mission, castro, and south of market neighborhoods for decades. hers was one of the city )s firt street foods. she died last week at 65. her funeral takes place this morning at san francisco )s mission delores church. it )s not only a case of who- dun-it, but also "how"-they-dun- it. someone stole a giant hammer worth thousands of dollars. the (8-hundred pound hammer -- disappeared from outside the healdsburg community center last week. it )s part of an art show. the head of the hammer is taller than a person. police say there are marks on the lawn. they think someone pulled it across the grass and loaded it into a truck. this morning, social media is buzzing about the american music awards. including what taylor swift had to say after winning artist of the year. new this morning... people living in san francisco s sunset district say there )s a weird taste in their water. water leaders are now authorizing tests .. as a precauton. the p-u-c says the complaints first started over the weekend. leaders maintain the water is safe to drink. but tests will be done in all neighborhoods where the complaints are coming from .. along with all surrounding neighborhoods. the results are due back by early next week. a key test today for a bay area man who received 289 million dollars after jurors agreed his cancer was caused by the weed killer "roundup."

"dewayne lee johnson" has lymphoma. he worked as a groundskeeper for benicia schools. in august -- jurors agreed monsanto knew the active chemical in roundup was toxic and did not warn users. today in san francisco -- monsanto will ask for the verdict to be tossed out or that award to be reduced. hoping to grow a new type of garden. a berkeley family forced to close it )s (127 year old plant nursery is asking the city council to let it get back in the growing business. this time by letting it sell cannabis plants and seeds. council members voting to direct staff to work on an ordinance that will allow the berkeley family to open the "cannabis nursery." it would be the first in the city and maybe in the entire country. if approved they family would sell seeds and small plants. the business would also educate people about cannabis. staff is expected to

signatures since starting an online petition last month. a spokesperson for california state parks say they do not have any plans to change the name. they say they want to make sure the culture and history remain part of the park. a new task force is being credited for taking guns from the hands of dozens of californians banned from having them. state attorney general xavier bacerra talked about the new task force yesterday in southern california. l-a county law enforcement agencies are working together .. to track down people who are not allowed to own guns. the problem is - that list runs into the thousands. bacerra is calling for more law enforcement agencies to team up .. to seize illegally owned weapons. he )s asking lawmakers to boost
