morning. check out dublin's forecast for today, notice it will be much are up and out the door this warmer. yesterday much of the bay area stayed in the 70s, today some mid 80s for the tri valley for the afternoon. in san jose we start out at 53. at 7:00 we'll be at 73. you know it's going to be a warm day. as we head over to mike, you're tracking a new crash. >> a new crash affects folks westbound 80 your commute direction. the south bay no commute. south county, peninsula, no problems on the maps, even the tri valley. only a little slowing out of the altamont for west 580. the new crash is westbound 80. your commute direction coming down into richmond, right around san pablo avenue is the updated clo location. chp got on scene and one lane blocked. fuel tanker is involved in a minor crash. we don't want anything more major, especially is involving a fuel tanker. watch for slowing coming down off the cin everything isng ae the bay brid

toll plaza for a few cash payers on the left. new this morning, something i think a lot of people think about, an overnight bust that could impact where you pumped your gas this morning. police arrested two people overnight trying to steal credit card information at the gas station pump. kris sanchez is live in sunnyvale when that happened. when i get gas i want to make sure there's not that skimmer thing on there. >> reporter: i know, this is what you want to look for. the crime scene tape is still up in sunnyvale but the case something still open here on one of the pumps, and this is one of the pumps sunnyvale police was looking at last night, and we think they may have removed something that might have b vid it for yourself. this is the world gas station on west mod between sunnyvale and matilda avenues. officers took two people into custody. we're not showing their faces because we don't know if they are minors. we don't know how many people might have been impacted by this

skimmer operation, if it is a skimmer operation, but if you get gas here at world gas, you're going to want to check your credit card statement. credit card industry analyst says you may be vulnerable at any gas station because they are not required to install those more secure chip readers until 2020, and so thieves are capitalizing on that. now according to the analyst, you can also protect yourself by paying with a credit card and not a debit card, and if you see, if anything seems off, you want to pay inside the gas station. when you look at the reader, it should match the rest of the pump. look for tampering, broken seals, a loose fit, even typeset that doesn't match. remember the skimmers are meant to fit just over the original mechanism, so they would be loose if they are fake. also, monitor your credit statements, your bank statements, because the sooner you catch any fraud, the better. we'll keep pressing sunnyvale police for more information. there are officers here, we

primavera, italian sausage, ziti and rigatoni with meatballs and mushroom sauce. no reports of anyone getting sick but again these are spoiled. you can find the information on our home page, nbcbayarea.com. friends of a millbrae father kidnapped and murdered are concerned about the upcoming bail hearing for one defendant. in may of 2016, keith green's body was found in sonoma county. soon after, authorities arrested tiffany lee from hillsborough, along with two men. lee is the mother of the victim's children. investigators believe there was some kind of custody dispute. bail hearing is scheduled for next week, and the judge is supposed to consider a motion to reduce bail for this man, kaveh bayat. friends have launched a position to stop that. the other two are out on bail. it's been a little over nine years and still no clues in the case of a missing 5-year-old

boy. one woman trying to keep him alive. hassan campbell, his foster father, louis ross says he disappeared from a shoe shop on college avenue in oakland back in 2009. police did an extensive search for the 5-year-old, who has cerebral palsy and leg braces. his foster parents were arrested on suspicion of murder, but never charged with the crime. sherri lynn miller spent the last nine years hoping people will not forget about hassani. >> somebody has to care. he was an innocent, little boy that didn't deserve what happened to him. >> the national center for missing and exploited children put together an age progression of hassani, what he may look like now, this would be about the age of 12. this year, he would have turned 14 years old. new details about alleged crimes by a former oakland pd officer turned da inspector. they released harry yu accepted

a paid trip to vegas in exchange for protecting a gang member in the san francisco asian community known as fat mark. prosecutors say hu conspired with fat mark to protect him in a double murder case. hu was a highly respected oakland officer before joining the almeida county da's office in 2007. in a statement oakland police said it is appalled by pd before any of the alleged criminal activity took allegati. at 5:06 this morning, this weekend help commemorate an historic event. >> the 50th anniversary of the presidio 27 mutiny. they staged a peaceful protest of the vietnam war on october 14th, 1968. the prisoners were put in the presidio stock caid for going awol, their group protest including them reading a list of demands. they were tried for mutiny with

if you're going this weekend, expect it to be of course very nice. and as we take a live look outside in san jose, before you get ready to head out the door, it's cool and mostly clear morning. if you're getting ready to go for a workout on your way to the gym, saratoga will be in the lower 50s starting throughout the day and at 9:00, we're at 59 degrees. it will be a cool start but our temperatures heating up fast throughout the day. it's going to be a nice one at half moon bay. our temperatures will be in the low 50s starting out, but today as some of the festivities kick off, it will be in the upper 60s for the rest of the afternoon. and we're looking at a high of 85 in livermore today, and you'll notice that it will be hotter for some of our inland valleys with concord reaching 88 degrees. 83 in napa and in santa rosa, and 69 in san francisco. we'll talk about the weekend coming up and mike, you're still tracking the crash in richmond. >> i am, kari. that's really the only real slowing we see that stands out on our maps. we always see a little bit of slowing here at the bay bridge toll plaza, and i want to call

out over here, the golden gate bridge northbound likely seeing that slowing because the zipper truck is moving and there are only two northbound lanes so folks do tend to slow as you should when a truck goes through the area. so we'll track those both. over here we have slowing for westbound 80, that is your commute direction for the upper east shore, coming toward the southern end of contra costa county. we see more slowing as we do have a tow truck that should be arriving to at least help out the camry involved in the crash. still waiting on word that they'll do with the fuel tanker that may be involved in this crash. perhaps they pulled over to lend some assistance or maybe give some information. we will continue to track that. the rest of the bay, south of beautiful green you see over here. there is a fender brtedest 580 grant line road so if folks are coming out of the there, but then no problem here for livermore and in toward the bay. >> thanks, mike. coming up, it was another major down day on wall street yesterday. stocks slipped another 500

closing down more than 540 points yesterday. it has lost nearly 1,400 points in the past two sessions. the dow and the nasdaq and the s&p are all off to their worst start to october since 2008. so as an investor, what should you do today? first it depends on your individual portfolio, but in general, market watchers are advising some caution. but again they say it's not quite time to panic. on cnbc last night, jim kramer said today could actually be a buying opportunity. week'she long haul. mortgage rates are at their highest levels in more than seven years at nearly 5%. it's a mark that analysts say could scare off many home buyers and could be a setback for the housing market, while 5% isn't that high, historically, a return to more normal rates won't feel that normal for buyers who are accustomed to getting a mortgage at 4% or lower. economists suggest sellers may have to cut their prices if borrowers can't afford a more

inside the saudi consulate in turkey. the saudis deny any involvement. many companies in the bay area have taken millions of dollars in saudi cash, among them uber, tesla and lyft. uber's ceo says he was going to withdraw from an upcoming conference at the saudi capital because of this scandal. you may recall, back in june, saudi crowned prince mohammad bin salman met with facebook's mark zuckerberg. zuckerberg has yet to comment. it is 5:16. new this morning, a san francisco company is forking over a steep fine for sending in makers. wilbur ellis feed pleaded guilty in april to substituting lower cost ingredients for chicken and turkey meal. in some cases, inspectors found ground up bird feathers. missouri company also pleaded guilty to similar charges. both together will pay $7 million. it's believed the food did not harm the animals that ate it. also new this morning, uber so far not commenting on a report indicating the ride share

giant wants to give drivers a stake in the company. according to axios, uber sent the securities and exchange commission a letter yesterday. the company issing can for a rule change allowing uber to provide company stock to its drivers. uber has made the same request before. in the past, the sec shot it down because uber drivers are independent contractors, and not employees. 5:17. the controversy over child vaccinations now has created new data that is worrying health officials. new report shows more kids are not getting recommended vaccines. the cdc says last school year 5% of kindergartners did not get the basic vaccines including dtap and the chicken pox vaccine. while the vast majority of children are vaccinated, this is the third consecutive year that the number is decreasing. to be clear, vaccines do not cause autism. if you are planning to shop on turkey day, listen up.

macy's says it will be open on thanksgiving. stores will start sales at 5:00 p.m. this is the third year in a row retailers will open for an early start for black friday shopping. in a statement macy's said it surveyed employees on their holiday work preferences in order to staff workers who opt in for shifts. they get overtime pay for working on thanksgiving. >> that's good. at least they ask employees if they want to work. a university hockey team in lass veigh gas suddenly sharing the spotlight with its mascot. >> we hear he's vying for playing time. new video of benny. they say hockey is going to the dogs at unlv. benny is a rescue dog and now skates for the team. isn't that amazing? he retrieves hockey sticks. his owner found him just before he was set to be euthanized. the plans are now on ice, obviously, for the long-term. oh. >> that's cool. >> i was thinking you know, they

that but most of our viewers are not affected in any way by that. looking over here this affects many more of our viewers coming down through contra costa county off the carquinez bridge, you see slowing now as you head in toward san pablo avenue. your two right lanes are now reported blocked. there was a crash minories at most, but there is a smaller vehicle and a fuel tanker involved in blocking your slow lane. crews have arrived and block your two right lanes and that's the reason for more slowing. lot o they tell us how long they expect to have those lanes closed, because we are seeing a build to that commute, as we said coming across the carquinez bridge. no problem o there's concord, bay point, pittsburg, antioch not showing slowing for highway 4 and cocoa county and alameda county looks great. 580 moving smoothly. folks headed across 58 to the richmond-san rafael bridge it's more on pace. the south bay don't want to

back. this just in, an air india plane has hit a wall during takeoff, and then it flew for three hours after that with the damage. you can see the photos posted to twitter with the bottom of the plane ripped open. the plane was carrying 130 passengers, took off from southern india this morning. the plane later diverted to mumbai, where it landed safely. the pilots are under investigation, as they try to figure out what caused that crash. 5:26. new video shows a gas station pump, watch this. it's going to go up in flames. new jersey driver pulled away

from the pump, causing it to break from the base. it was still attached to the gas pump. the vapors ignite from the gasoline, quite dangerous. it happened wednesday. luckily no one was hurt in that fire. obviously quickly put out. that's scary. 5:26 right now. one of the biggest complaints to b.a.r.t., dirty stations. b.a.r.t. is trying to beef up its nightly cleaning hours. the transit agency power washes the mission street station one hour every night. now the directors signed a new agreement. starting in mid-november, crews will work four hours a night. they hope this will help wash away all the filth and feces. 5:26. happening today, women of impact from around the bay area will come together and you're going to be there. >> yes, it's a really great event. join me today as i emcee today's luncheon. it's notre dame's tenth annual women of impact luncheon, being held in the san jose convention center. it's from 11:30 until 1:30 and funds raised through the event

centered in pennsylvania. he is accused of covering up abuse by priests. when he served as the bishop in pittsburgh. >> we have more detail within the next few weeks, bishop patrick mcgraw plans to assault allegations in the san jose diocese. more recently, the oakland same thing. former fbi leaders are helping the church investigate. new this morning, a development in a story we've been following in contra costa county. chinese restaurant in walnut creek being forced out of the location it's occupied for 30 years. >> a new tenant says it no longer wants to occupy that space. restaurant is still slated to be kicked out of the encena grande shopping center in walnut creek when their lease expires in february. this is po1989. last night aa which was supposed to take over this location and u.p.s. aa's decision coincides with that had on aaa. customer. it's not clear what influence the whole foods supermarket is a couple are dos now. regency centers which owns the strip mall says whole foods lease prevents jade's garden location used as a restaurant once the lease expires next year. the husband and wife blame the supermarket chain for them being forced out. whole foods did not reply to requesting for comment. regency sent a statement saying they, not whole foods made a decision, they want to reduce congestion at the shop center. >> don't hurt the small

155-mile-an-hour winds as the storm exploded across the coastline. power crews are repairing downed lines and blown transformers while survivors are cleaning away debris. meantime in about an hour, an air force plane will take off from travis air force base in california, headed to florida to help those affected areas along the panhandle. this is the second plane that will take off this morning, as part of that mission. at about 2:00 a.m., other crews took off headed to that same area with suppli we're going to take you live to travis air force base, coming up in an hour. a follow-up for you now, it's 5:37, one family may find a small sense of closure today from a tragic drunk driving accident they suffered three years ago. you might recall the story, esperanza rodriguez and her 14-month-old daughter died after a drunk driver plowed into them and crashed into a backyard where a held. bryan jones lost control of his

jose, and making your way out the door at the fremont warm springs b.a.r.t. station also starting out with some low 50s there and we'll be at 68 degrees at 11:00. at noon you want to take the lunch outside. after that, it's going to be quite uncomfortable out there as we head up to 85 in east san jose and in milpitas. for the east bay, some upper 80s today. you'll notice that it will be much warmer compared to yesterday, with hayward reaching 80 degrees, and we'll see some upper 60s in half moon bay. san mateo reaching 79 degrees. san francisco on the embarcadero up to 70 degrees, and 80 in mill valley with napa today reaching 83 degrees. as you're getting dressed, you might need a light jacket to start out but the rest of the day, short sleeves and maybe some casual friday. here is an update on what was tropical storm michael. it's exiting off of the atlantic coast, but still bringing some rain through partsmassachusetts. and then we also have tropical storm sergio that was moving through baja, california.

this is going to spread some heavy rain across parts of arizona, and new mexico over the next couple of days, as it continues to weaken, but an update on the tropical systems we've been tracking all week long. as we look at our weather here, what to expect around the bay area. it's just going to be hot, dry, breezy, and an increased fire danger for our inland hills. make sure you keep checking in for updates on that and be careful with any sparks out there. we have a lot of dry fuels. as we look at san francisco, it's going to be a nice weekend but those winds picking up on saturday and sunday. and mike, you've been tracking quite a few problem spots out there. >> for a friday, we still for us to start off have a lighter volume. just popped up and i checked the chp reports, no real jump juse, just as we see that first burst. i'll check with theoufi out. meanwhile, the rest of the bay shows a smooth drive on these

sensors. i'll take you to the upper east shore freeway though, kari and i have been tracking this, the lower drive coming down off the carquinez bridge and we have a slower drive which should be improving now as westbound 80 right around san pablo avenue looks like that crash has finally cleared, and in fact, we've gotten no update on what they've done with the fuel tanker on the side of the road but i trust that it's gone from the area. it's always a concern. we're watching though a little slowing and recovery still coming off of highway 4, and so you got about almost 25-minute drive now down from highway 4 to the bay bridge toll plaza. at the toll plaza though, we expect to see more trc. startine the fast track lanes show a little bit more backup and they may turn the metering lights seeing all that traffic coming down the east shoreter that trae south bay, a crash and slowing but the live camera which should be where the slow spot is doesn't show a problem. back to you. 5:51, next and new, a sheriff's response to a story we

old matthew shepard will get a big honor. you probably remember the story... 20 years after he was abducted and chillekilled, matt shepard will be honored. he was an openly gay college student in 1998 who was abducted beaten and left to tie. his ashes will be interred at washington national cathedral. shepard's parents are advocates for the rights of the lgbtq
