september. >> that's a good way of putting it. we've been dealing with these warmer temperatures and it looks like those warmer temperatures will continue, but what i'm looking out for this weekend is the elevated fire danger. clear skies, 54 degrees. peninsula 55, also nice and clear. cooler in the tri-valley at 50 degrees and check out the 44 in the north bay. clear conditions through san francisco. not really a cloud in sight. we are expecting mostly clear conditions. you can see by our 24 hour temperature changes, no major changes there. no fog hugging the coastline. i am tracking a series of winds that was expected to kick off tonight and that's what's going to bring the elevated fire danger. along with that, we'll be dealing with dry conditions, relatively low humidity and warm temperatures that will continue to climb into those upper 80s which is why a fire watch will be in place and i'll break that down for you in about 15 minutes. >> it starts tonight. thank you very much. we'll see you in a little bit.

frustration spilled over in san francisco as it is now day ten of a strike outside marriott hotels in san francisco, san jose and in oakland. this was the scene earlier yesterday evening. striking hotel workers took their walk out from the sidewalk into the streets and into the traffic. they managed to shutdown traffic downtown for some time. this was the scene as police were arresting about 40 workers after they sat down in the streets. union members say they love working for marriott, but they tell us they need better pay and some job security. >> they're really, really an incredibly profitable company and its a beautiful thing to work for them and we would really like to be counted and treated like we're valued. >> similar demonstrations are happening at marriott hotels across the country, too and the company has not released any details of the ongoing negotiation, but in a statement earlier this week, a spokesperson said marriott is disappointed that the workers chose to strike, but that their

properties remain open. south bay street is open once again this morning after this tragic situation that unfolded in a very public place. last night police swarmed the park after several people called 9-1-1 about a naked man running around with a gun. the park is a few blocks from a high school. when officers arrived and prepared to confront that man, they say he ran into a nearby neighborhood and turned the gun on himself. a portion of another street was shutdown for hours. and now an arrest in a suspected hate crime in the south bay and police are crediting you, the public, for a tip. this is james ainquiriry. police believe he is the vandal that scrolled several swastikas outside a muslim dentist office last sunday morning. in video that the police released, you can see him there. police believe he may be responsible for other acts of vandalism there in recent months as well. and new video of a very

put to the delight of generations of customers. the line was out the door in walnut creek as folks lined up for at one point was going to be their last meal. the owners fisigned a lease renewal. as we reported earlier this week, the restaurant was told it had to go after more than 30 years in business there. it was a devastating blow to the owners who after friday's development were just overcome with emotion. >> thank you, all. i got so many -- i didn't know i was going to get this much support. i never forget. thank you. >> she made me cry. she blamed the whole foods restaurant for getting squeezed out but the shopping center owner says that was never the case. the owner says it was an honest mistake and they want to keep their beloved tenants who have such strong support from the local community, including some notable figures. >> i think its important to keep the community feeling and that's
7:05 am
what we've done by really pushing this in the last 24 hours. >> reporter: so you're celebrating tonight? >> absolutely. extra wontons. >> did you recognize his voice? that was cal answer joe starkey. they've been running that restaurant for the last three generations. their trademark is quality and consistency. in the mad dash to election day, a critical group of people still need to show up at the polls and they are the volunteers that help you not just with your stickers. the voters office says it needs about 1,000 election workers to greet voters and support their community members through the voting process. >> election officers should feel a great sense of pride that they're out on election day helping their community and helping their community have their voices be heard through voting. >> the office says the polls in palo alto are especially in need. bilingual volunteers and the

7:07 am
>> we had a van that was parked in front of our building for three weeks, with nobody in it, that blocked our potential access. >> the city says it is working with vulnerable residents to set up payment plans or minimize fees, but says that the bottom line is cars and rvs cannot be parked illegally on the street. now to the latest on hurricane michael where the powerful and deadly storm left a path of destruction all across the southeast. the hardest hit area is the florida panhandle where the category four storm made landfall. 14 people are now confirmed dead and that number is sure to rise. there's little left of mexico beach, the town that took the brunts of michael's wrath and more than 1 million people from florida all the way up to maryland are still without power and many throughout the region are still without running water. the bay area strike team is now in florida. the team took off to help in that relief effort. you can see they packed that

never happened. why the king was kind of a no-show last night? >> reporter: there's a lot of number 23 gold and purple jerseys in the stands. >> lakers, baby! >> reporter: but the only time that number hit the floor was on draymond green's back. >> really disappointed, but i was hoping that they shoot. >> reporter: they call him king james and he did show-up, never formally introduced but he was here sitting on the bench. this man paid $250 for his ticket and, by the way, he flew in from australia he's not going to play. >> i know that. >> reporter: it was a soldout crowd at the arena in san jose, some hoping to see stephen curry go up against lebron. ticket prices started at $45. >> i would love to see him play. if he doesn't play, he doesn't
7:12 am
play. i'm still happy to see him. >> reporter: watching james sit on the bench came with a hefty price, but some warriors fans were okay with that. >> he's in the house, so that's about all he should be doing, sitting on a bench. >> you still got to see the warriors. that's what you're there for, right? coming up, its back on, the move that's bringing the mavericks surf competition back to half moon bay after a two year absence. i'm hoping i get to attend that. i've never been. now, today, we are tracking warm temperatures yet again, but its the winds kicking up tonight that we're really concerned about. i'll break down the fire watch about to take effect. stay with us. take a live look

drifting off in one direction. that's because we are getting some building winds. vianey is tracking those. if you're lacing up your sneakers for the heart walk, we thank you for doing something nice. the red hot california housing market could be headed for a cooldown. economists with the california realtors association said prices could peak next year. rising prices and higher interest rates are pushing people out, but realtors assure that this isn't all doom and gloom. one realtor we talked with says she's already seeing signs of a more stable market. she just sold a house in concord, this one here, in six days, and without a bidding war. >> if it was last year, it would've had three to five offers and gone super fast. just one in eight families can afford a median priced home in the bay area which is now priced at $935,000.
7:16 am
that's the median. if you were hoping to hit the mega millions jackpot last night just so you could buy a house, don't worry. we are still in the game. no one won that $548 million jackpot and you know that that just means more money next time. you can get next tuesday's jackpot ticket. it is now at a whopping $654 million and that would be the second largest prize in the history of the game. ernie's liquor in san jose where the winning ticket for the last major jackpot was bought. wells fargo branch took home millions of dollars last july. everyone is at ernie's and want to see if lightning strikes twice. >> i've been coming here for almost 30 years. that was one time we didn't come here to buy, we didn't even buy any tickets and we missed out. so this time around, i said, no, i've got to go and get it back. >> everybody goes crazy and they buy like a whole bunch.
7:17 am
you tell everybody if i ever win something, i'll just sit down, have a good steak and think about everything that i would buy. >> i think that's a good strategy, don't you? big win last july, a lot of sales have gone up more than 30%, so you know its just still a chance. surfs up for mavericks with some changes. the california coastal commission approved new permits for the world class surfing competition in half moon bay. there had been threats to deny those permits unless mavericks organizers agreed to allow women to compete for an equal cash prize. they were allowed to compete last year if the contest was held but this time for the same amount of money. now organizers are just waiting for the big waves to line-up and that could happen any time between now and early april. vianey, is here with us now. >> i remember last year when we were looking at the waves and watching it and it didn't pan out. so hopefully this year.
7:18 am
fingers crossed. >> today, though f you're heading out to the beach, you're going to enjoy nice weather but be prepared to enjoy some cooler temperatures along the coast, although we're still tracking warmer inland. right now in san jose its 54 degrees. wind speeds at about 6 miles per hour. 50 degrees in dublin. wind speeds at about 5 miles an hour and what a beautiful sight in san francisco. you can see we've got the nice sunrise. we're expecting a fairly clear afternoon and this is what doppler radar looks like right now. you can see how nice and peaceful it is, but there is an upper level trough sitting just over west canada and that's what i'm monitoring for tonight. there is still something going on and that's down in southern california. you may have already seen the spectacular lightning show over l.a. last night. this is what it looks like right now. we're still expecting to see rain. you can see the majority of that
7:19 am
rain is now beginning to trek east. so really its making its way towards the arizona area and arizona is up next in terms of possible potential downpours. if you're traveling down in that general direction, check the forecast. today's overall day time highs back home we're expected to still be warm but not as warm as yesterday. although the temperatures in san jose will climb till about 85 degrees, concord, 88. a little bit warmer in through antioch and check out oakland, 77. san francisco topping out at about 70 degrees. the bay area size not a cloud in sight. we're dealing with beautiful, sunny skies but, remember, that i was talking about that system sitting just off of west canada. well, that's expected to kick up some dry offshore winds in through tonight and that's going to kick in a fire weather watch that takes effect tonight through monday. we're talking about dry tweerl winds, potential gusts of 50

miles per hour. the higher elevations above 1,000 feet will be hard hit. the east bay hills and the mount diablo range will have potential for elevated fire danger through this weekend. the gusts are expected to be tomorrow. napa 22 miles per hour, santa rosa, 26 and that's at about 4:00 p.m. tomorrow and they get stronger into sunday night and early monday morning. that's when the winds begin to kick-up upwards of 34, 35 miles per hour. we'll be keeping a very close eye on that over the next seven days, here's a look at what you can expect. we got that high pressure dominating over the interior valley. we'll keep the 70s in the forecast for san francisco, at least through monday and check out the temperatures. they stick around and linger and actually begin to warmup as we head into sunday night. we'll keep the dry sunny conditions with the elevated fire danger. the wind kicks up tomorrow. if you live in the north bay mountains or east bay hills or anywhere near the mount diablo
