>> plus, maururlz -- mural as, first, shutting off power. their taking a new step in the wildfire safety plan. >> the news starts right now. good evening, everyone. thank you for joining us. >> we're on with a special edition of nbc bay area news after sunday night football. high fire danger here in the bay area. tonight pg & e is pro actively turning off power to help reduce the risk of a wildfire during extreme winds that are expected overnight. >> the shutoffs happening in several northern california communities. take a look at this map. these are all the counties that could be impacted. tot total of 70,000 customers could affected. 17,000 moretages and weather co begiikelnng we have yet to see the peak of the extreme fire danger setting up for the bay area. the red flag warning continues for the north bay hills and the diablo range including the east bay hills to areas east of san

jose. the highest fire danger likely here in the north bay will have some gusts up to 60 miles per hour and the most sustained winds in this fire weather event happening in the north bay. now as of 9:00. not a lot of wind around the east bay or into the county. but notice as we approach midnight, again, the peak of this event is typically folks go to bed through the morning kmut. look at the wind speeds actually picking up. the peak of the extreme fire conditions setting up before sunrise. and that's unusual to see the very dry conditions overnight. again, north bay hills could get gusts close to 60 miles per hour. pg & e mandated power outages for location that's will see the highest wind gusts over the next 12 hours. we'll have a closer look at amazingly low humidity levels for night time coming up in about 15 minutes and our full weather forecast and how long the red flag warning conditions will continue. >> thank you very much. as we mentioned, the high fire

danger may force pg & e to shut off power to customers. the goal is to reduce the risk of wildfires during high winds. we have a look at how people are preparing for this. >> well, terry, pg & e confirmed that as of 8:03 tonight they did shut off power to customers in lake, sonoma and napa county. you can see that i'm here in downtown napa and the power is still on here. still pg & e did alert people that live in napa about the chance that they may have their power cut off and many of them prepared early, including laurena longray. she got out her emergency backpack tonight. she is prepared with a crank radio and a flashlight. if pg & e cuts the power to rece risk. she may not be able to read her book tonight if that happens. but she says she supports the t. yes. considering what happened last year which was, you know, very

scary. so, yeah. i feel comfortable about it. >> the tubs fire last october killed 22 people and destroyed more than 5,000 hoaxmes in napa and sow momnoma counties. they will shut off power to more than 17 thou dhou,000 customers. they already have done that. so 5,700 customers in napa county have now had their power shut off. 415 people in sonoma county. and 11,300 in lake county. if you do have your power shut off, it is likely that it won't be turned on again for at least ou longer. and this is also very important. because of the power outages, many schools in this area have decided not to hold classes

tomorrow because they may not have power. so be sure and check with your local school to see if in fact school will be in session tomorrow. we have also learned that some homes in nevada county have had their power shut off as well. reporting live in napa. nbc bay area news. >> thank you very much. pg & e's planned power outages may also include small sections of santa rosa tonight. we're getting into sonoma county. they posted earlier today on the facebook page letting residents know pg and e& e could have a shutoff. >> in the past we would only ask staff if we were drown dawn meani -- down n this case, there are is no resources out from cal fire is fully staffed. the county is fully staffed. but we have since upstaffed.

house at the time. they're all okay. the deputy was chasingieuss in reached speeds of 100 miles an hour. there are no elizabeth holmes is due back in court tomorrow. the conference is set for tomorrow afternoon at the federal court in san jose. holmes and her chief operating officer are charged with numerous counts of wire fraud. simply put, they concocted a multimillion dollar scheme to defraud investors and a separate extreme to defraud doctors and patients. that is a blood testing company but they discovered the test results were not accurate. still ahead on this special edition of nbc bay area news, the long and difficult road to 80% of the community was destroyed. >> two political heavy weights coming together inhe the mayor and the lieutenant governor together. it will be a locovery.

companies. they have the right to operate 625 scooters in san francisco. they also have to follow rules on how many scooters can be placed in certain neighborhoods. >> we have been talking about this red flag warning. it is here and midnight is a bad time. >> we'll be watching pinwinds peaking after midnight. we're talking about day time dry humidity levels happening before sunrise which is highly unusual. it only happens when you get the off shore winds. right now san francisco, clear skies. again, no fog. we look at temperatures close to 60 degrees. 59 degrees right now. notice not big on fire danger present at 81% humidity. even san francisco by tomorrow morning. we begin to see the humidity levels drop. 66%. and right there near the diablo range, one of the zones in that red flag warning through noon tomorrow. look at the temperatures here in the north bay. you don't see this often. still near 70 degrees. notice this is where the winds are starting to pick up.

napa, over towards fairfield and solano county, the wind speeds accelerate. we see them mixing. it is overnight. places are seeing the gusty north winds. likely starting the day in the 60s with mid 50s closer to san jose look at these humidity levels. the upper right hand portion of the screen by 1:00 a.m.d napa, 3:00 4fternoon as th34%. dry conditions in the east bay hills and this ties directly into the wind ow around the central bay. but once we pass midnight, you see these areas in orange and red. those are the gusts of 35 miles per hour. notice as we head towards the very beginning of the morning commute, we're beginning to seat winldz now and east bay hills, again, the wind advisory

expected to drop at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow and the red flag warning is expected to drop at noon. notice how the wind speeds even though we're still seeing off shore winds, speeds start to come down and we're hopeful by -- it looks like towards the afternoon towards 5:00 we should begin to see the wind speeds drop and fire danger slowly on the decrease. look at the temperatures. close to 80 in san francisco. low 80s around san jose. mid 80s inland.hore winds going. santa ana winds in southern california could get close to 70 miles per hour there monday and tuesday. and really no sign of any rain. high pressure holds strong in the forecast. look at san francisco. if not for the wind and fire danger, we would be talking about the temperature tomorrow. could get close to 80 in counsel town. we're hopeful for the midday break aept winds to get out of the fire danger and at least through middle part of the week. some cooling as the sea breeze tries to make a comeback by

>> yeah. time of year for the dry gusty off shore winds. it's doing a number of interesting things athe nig nig. some places in the north bay almost approaching 10:00 at 70 degrees. look at santa rosa and napa at 70. coolest temperature right now, half moon bay at 51 degrees. we head towards tomorrow morning. if you have the on going breezes at night, you could be starting the day tomorrow, especially in the hills of the north bay, in this has a tie in to obviously the dry winds keeping our temperatures mild. a big reversal of the humidity pattern compared to what we saw today. if you recall, we had fog to start off this morning ah mi area. numbers start to drop off by mid afternoon you see the inland. what very unusual is the even drier conditions now around santa rosa and napa here at 9:30 at night. it has everything to do with the dry gusty sometimes referred tos athe diablo winds. off shore winds where the air compresses and dries and goes to

the higher hill tops and that sea level and you notice as we approach midnight, 3:00 a.m. to about 6:00 a.m. this appears to be the main wind event. notice how concord and likely around mst diablo, you see the winds spiking. by 6:00, still gusty in the north bay hills. the areas of purple indicating guflts above 45 miles per hour and then around noon, even though the winds here are off shore, should see wind speeds starting to come down. that is critically important. as it stands now, that red flag warning for the north bay hill tops and the diablo range is still threw none tomorrow but stay tuned to today in the bay to see if that maybe gets extended. if the winds stay up a bit more than expected, past noon, with he could see that red flag warning possibly extended around the north bay. now if not for the fire danger, the other thing you'll notice as the winds back off for the afternoon, very warm temperatures close to 80 in san francisco and oakland. low 80s around san jose. and here's the pattern responsible for the north bay fires last year and the conditions we're seeing now. high pressure off to our north

and west. low pressure in southern california. there is the wind tunnel effect of the off shore winds which will decrease tuesday into wednesday. but also keep things dry. notice how that high blocks off the storm track through about friday. no chances of rain over the next seven days. promising views here looking off to the west as we take into account the ten day rainfall outlook. it looks like possibly by the 2 making a comeback. just outside the current seven looks gus week. san francisco could see temperatures close to the north bay. hill tops, east bay hills and we stay warm and dry for most of the week and hopefully in the ten day outlook we'll see a pattern shift back to more rain in the west coast forecast moving forward. >> all right. rob, thank you very much. >> rob, thanks. still ahead on this special edition of nbcbay area news, the first official overseas tour as

type 1 diabetes research. it )s call . walkers met in the south bay to raise money for type one diabetes research. it's called the jdrf 1 walk. this year's vent ran through levi stadium. walkers raised $500,000. $30,000 more than the original goal. people formed teams to walk one team raised overlone. you can find more information about jdrf 1 wuk at y.cbayarea.comya prince harry and meghan markle touched down in sidney, australia this morning. it is part of a two week long tour of the country and first official overseas tour since they got hitched. you might remember the star studded studded event in may. they've had 76 appearances.

>> okay. and rob is back now with a final check on that forecast. we'll be watching it closely overnight. >> the worst of the fire threat happening after midnight to 6:00 a.m. red flag warning technically up until about noon tomorrow for the north bay and diablo range and east bay hills. we think it will be specifically the north bay where you'll see the strongest wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. up around lake county and north sonoma county. so watch out for. that a lot of this happening before sunrise tomorrow. once the wind speeds start to back off, a warm forecast for the afternoon. still dry. off shore pattern is going to be around most of the week except not as gusty as the wind will be experiencing tonight into tomorrow morning. >> and pg & e cut power to tens of thousands of people from the central valley to nevada city and on over to napa and also so in sonoma perhaps. >> lake county as well. >> we're talking 17,000 customers at this point. >> in just the north bay.
