the freeways are moving nightly right now. we're taking you up towards the area right here. my concern is not the roots, but the rails. there may be delays president capital quarter comes down here, with the rest of the bay, but there may be some shifts because of this activity over here. b.a.r.t. says do not use one of their parking lots. that's an evacuation points, but there's no delay to the service. back to that news, 5,000 people told overnight to get out of their homes because of a threatened gas pop line. >> here's a look at the impacted area. it is near suisun and poinsettia avenues not par from willow pass road. >> bob redell is talking to

authorities. he east examine exactly how this got started. >> pete seratos is there with some of the evacuations at the baypoint area. >> reporter: some of them are waking up as the news crews show up. we're at the pittsburg b.a.r.t. staying. this parking lot wouldn't be this full this early in the morning, but it's one of the evacuation points so all together we're talking about thousands evacuated. they're also going to the calgary church. here's what people had to say about evacuating last night. >> so far i got my in-laws with me. they're elderly. my father-in-law can't walk. his medication is in the house.
5:02 am
we had a short time to get out. so here we are stuck over here in the cold weather. >> it hasn't been that bad of an experience other than them not letting us know anything. we don't know when we can go back home, we don't know how long we'll be here in this parking lot. i do have family, so around 6:00 a.m. i'm going to leave and go to a family member's house. >> reporter: take you back out live. we're showing you the red cross set up. not an example count on who are actually here, but they're saying they passed out about 120 blank either so far. we're going to speak with more evacuees around here with an update in the next half hour. pete suratos, for the "today in the bay." we're looking at how that even started and why the evacuation was ordered. bob?
5:03 am
>> reporter: laura we're at the edge of one of the neighborhoods that's been evacuated. they have yellow crime scene tape up down the street where pete was mentioning around 4,000 people evacuated i just did get off the phone with a fire protection district. they tell us this gas pipeline fire is still burning and that a 12-inch pipeline is at risk of exploding. that risk is going down as they're able to mitigate this. this is burning near the am track tracks at poinsettia and suisun avenues. what the fire department believes happens is there was a power line that fell, started a grass fire. that fire spread to an underground fault that houses a section of this pipeline that's run by chevron. there's a 12-inch pipeline, and a smaller pipeline. the fire protection district right now is running on the
5:04 am
theory it's the pauler pipeline that is burning, still burning and they can't get in there to turn it off, and that's putting the bigger line at i risk the 12-inch high pressure transmission line. they said chevron has isolated the 12-inch line from the main system, putting in inert gas there, and they'll purge the rest of the gaus out, and once they can do that which could take two to three hours, then they'll have a safe situation that would allow people back in their homes. that's what they're working on right now. whether they do the purge, you might hear a loud sound like the sound of a jet engine at the pipeline facility, or a loud shrieking sound. if you hear that, police don't call 911.
5:05 am
>> good warning to people there. it should be loud. thank glue if you have our smartphone app, you might have woke up to alerts. we have sent out updates through the night. the app is free and able to download right now. today is the day that many south bay catholics have been waiting for, the day that the diocese released the names of priests with credible accusation of sexual abuse against them. >> kris, what have you found out? >> the san jose diocese was the first so say they would release the list, but now several other dioceses are following suit. last night was the final listening session for survivors and their families to speak out about abuse by priests.

bishop patrick mcgraw said the series of meetings have been inform atiff, but also painful. the bishop's ace nouncement here followed the he pennsylvania tonal to make their list public. that's what people want here. >> this whole investigation should not be controlled, conceived and managed by the bishop. he should ask the he district attorney of santa clara or the attorney general of california to investigate it. if he really wants to help people heal. >> so here's what's happening today. that list of priests with the credibility accusations made against them should be made public today, and the diocese
5:07 am
says the new policy is if there's an accusation, the diocese is to immediately call police. oakland and san francisco are also working on lists, but those will come later. we're look into who the priests are when they worked and where, and perhaps we'll get some of that closure that the bishop says this was all intended to do. >> we'll see if many are retired now -- >> that's the thing. they'll include their status l. they passed away, whether they are retired, whether they were kicked out. >> thank you for following it. i know you have extensively. 5:07. president trump and mike pompeo are set to speak this morning about the disappearance of "the washington post" journalist jamal khashoggi. mike pompeo returned through the night. neither are talking about what

about is because of this activity here, of course the fire, the evacuations on the north side of highway 4, in fact north of willow pass road because of the area near the gas line there as well, all of that activity has shifted train traffic as well. the capitol corridor countries down looks this route, but some trains were held overnight, so they may be shifted to the tracks capitol corridor may by delayed. the roadway themselves, and the ca carcinus bridge, but the north parking lot for b.a.r.t. is an evacuation site. that's where pete is following the folks who were evacuated last night. 580 looks nice you but you cannot see the dublin grade. the low clouds are right above the dependable.

right back to you guys with that. while most of you were likely sleeping, 4,000 people in baypoint had to pack up, leave their homes after a grass fire threatened a pipeline. it's not far from willow pass road. there's a big response from the authorities, even the red cross, to help out all these people. bob redell is live in one of the evacuated neighborhoods, but first peet suratos is at the b.a.r.t. station. it's being used as an evacuation center and we have the morning rush hour coming. are they goods to try to move those people out? >> reporter: yeah, good morning. we're trying to get more information. as far as the impact, that parking lot, i believe the north parking lot is being used as an evacuation areas. you mentioned red cross.
5:33 am
of course they're here in place to help folks out. we know all together about 4,000 people have been evacuated. a good portion of them are here. sorry to interrupt the conversation, bur we're going to talk with mamariesa. she was evacuated last night. i'm going to let you take it from here. what was it like last night when they told you you had to evacuate? >> it was pretty scary. the sheriff's department came, knocked on the door, did a phone call, just said get out. i said, when? , they said, now. and we grabbed the dog and we went in the car. >> reporter: did they explain the situation? >> yeah, they told us what was going on. it was a pipeline and they needed to evacuate, just to get somewhere safe. and then they told us where we could wait, and i was like, i don't have that much family out here, so i was like, whatever. so i same here.
5:34 am
>> reporter: what has it been like for you, just being here overnight dealing with the situation? >> for one it's uncomfortable, i can't -- i don't really want to fall asleep, because you can't trust people nowadays. i have my dog, he's my watch dog. he'll bark if anybody would come to the door. >> he was barking at me. >> yeah, he's very protective, but he doesn't bite. >> any concerns for you? >> man, i just hope everybody is safe and nothing happens. everybody else's homes as much as mine, just to stay safe. >> reporter: thank you so much. >> thank you. >> reporter: i know you got to warm up, waiting for more blank either at the red cross. we'll continue to monitor this with another update in the next hour. back to you in the newsroom. >> that's tough goods when evacuees are worried about their things being stolen, too.
5:35 am
we wish them well. let's continue with bob redell. >> bob is continuing that coverage. what have been able to find out? >> well, marcus and laura, we're at the end of one of those neighborhoods, it's still burning about a half mile away. just along the am track tracks near poinsettia and suisun avenues. law enforcement went door to door shortly after the fire. there was a grass fire possibly caused by a downed power line. that fire spread to an underground vault that houses a 12-inch natural gas pipeline owned and run by chevron. the fire protection district tells me that vault is still on fire, but believe it might be a smaller goos line that's ruptured and feeding the flames and they can't get in there, so that fire is still going to
5:36 am
burn. the concern is that smaller pipeline fire could cause the larger pipeline to explode, so chevron has isolated that section of line, is in the process of purging the gas from inside it as a result 4,000 people have been evacuated in about a half-mile radius from the fire. >> there's a fire down the street, this area is under evacuation. >> right now? >> yes, so you have to leave. >> we have several people asked to leave as they were trying to get ready to go to bed on you might hear a loud shrieking sound, like a jet engine, as they purge the pipeline. this purging could take two to three hours. reporting live here in baypoint,
