security adviser apparently got into this big shouting match with expletives. both of them passionate overove immigration. now, according to sarah huckabee sanders, the white house spokesperson, she says, "while we are passionate about solving the issue of illegal immigration, we are not angry at one another. however, we're furious at the failure of congress, congressional democrats specifically, to help us address this growing crisis." it's something that the president talked about when he was at a campaign event last night in montana. he hit illegal immigration hard. this as 4,000 migrants are reportedly at the border of guatemala ready to enter mexico, coming toward the united states. president trump has promised to cut off aid for those central american countries that continue to send migrants into t united states. but he's also taking a hit too politically as the president tr

to prop up republicans in some of these tight congressional races, he's also facing criticism that he promised to build the wall and so far hasn't. phillip? >> a lot of problems there. tracie, thank you. with less than three weeks until the election president up from is hitting the campaign trail hard. he's on a three-day tour through the west right now. during his first stop at a rally in montana he brought up republican congressman greg gianforte and joked about the incident in may of 2017 when the then candidate body slammed a reporter. >> greg is smart. and by the way, never wrestle him. do you understand that? never. any guy that can do a body slam, he's my candidate. i heard that he body slammed a reporter. they said oh, this is terrible, he's going to lose the election. then i said wait a minute, i know montana pretty well, i think it might help him.

and it did. >> you may recall gianforte later pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault over the incident. call it her departing shot. outgoing u.n. ambassador nikki haley fired off a couple of jokes in her first high-profile appearance since she announced her resignation. >> you wanted an indian woman. but elizabeth warren failed her dna test. actually, when the president found out i was indian-american he asked me if i was from the same tribe as elizabeth warren. people always wonder if i felt different or isolated as an indian-american growing up in rural south carolina. actually, there was a benefit. it totally prepared me for being ep in new york. >> she's got jokes. haley gave the keynote address at the annual al smith charity dinner in new york, joking that she resigned from the administration just to boost ticket sales for that high-powered event. she addedill be out to dinner th harassed.

hope has all but faded that the missing saudi journalist is still alive. president trump acknowledged that it appears jamal khashoggi is dead but says he's waiting until the saudi investigation wraps up before making an official statement. and while turkish investigators claim to have a rorgd of khashoggi's alleged murder, overnight secretary of state mike pompeo denied an abc report that he's heard it. >> i've heard no tape. i've seen in transcript. and the network that reported there ought to pull down the headline that says i have. >> nbc's chief foreign correspondent richard engel is in istanbul with the latest. >> reporter: president trump was asked if missing saudi journalist jamal khashoggi is dead. >> it certainly looks that way to me. it's very sad. certainly looks that way. >> reporter: secretary of state mike pompeo said he advised the president to give saudi arabia until the end of the week to explain what happened. >> there are lots of stories out

there about what has happened. we just are going to allow the process to move forward, allow the facts to unfold. t mnuchin after growing outrage is now pulling out of a saudi investment conference. u.s. intelligence officials tell nbc news they believe khashoggi was clearly killed in the saudi consulate in istanbul and that it is inconceivable crown prince mohammed bin salman was not aware or at some level involved. one of the crown prince's bodyguards seen in an image released by a turkish newspaper entering the consulate hours before khashoggi walked in. the focus now, where is the body and is it still in turkey? turkish police are investigating whether the alleged killers dismembered khashoggi's body a turkish tells nbc round the news two locations are under scrutiny. but where? we're on our way to one place we're told the police have their

eye on. this wooded area outside istanbul is called the belgrade forest. it's fairly isolated, over 13,th have surveillance video o disappearance. saudi officials continue to say they don't know what happened to khashoggi. richard engel, nbc news, istanbul. breaking news overnight. a helicopter has crashed on board the aircraft carrier "uss ronald reagan" in the philippine sea. a statement from the navy says several people were injured when the mh-60 seahawk crashed on the flight deck. none of those injuries we're told would be life-threatening. the navy says the "uss ronald reagan" remains missiumed fligh operations. the cause is under investigation. there is word this morning that south korea's president has met with pope francis in private. and moon's office says that the pontiff has kaltd a willingness to visit north korea. according to the "new york

times," president moon passed along the verbal invitation directly from kim jong un. while the pope has previously expressed the desire for peace on the peninsula, the vatican is remaining silent on their reaction to the offer. despite the invitation, no pope has ever visited north korea, whose government has historically suppressed religious activity. well, there will be no back-to-back titles for the houston astros. the red sox were back in houston for game 5 against the defending champs and boston's embattled lefty david price got the start. he was trying to end hisasoninl. but had strikeouts. he allowed only three hits and held the astros scoreless for the six innings he was on the mound. meanwhile, red sox took full advantage of a rare off day from houston ace justin verlander. this three-run opposite field blast from rafael devers in the sixth was the dagger. boston beat houston 4-1 and advance to the world series. they await the winner of the brewers-dodgers series. game 6 is tonight in milwaukee at 8::30, 9:00 eastern. shocking video shows a canal
