good morning. i'm jackie deangelis at cnbc global headquarters. here are today's top business headlines. wall street is pointed to a ahe the bell. stocks fell sharply yesterday as the market's october struggles continue. among the reasons for the sell-off, worries about the u.s./china trade war, rising interest rates and concerns over whether big tech stocks are overvalued. the dow was 25, 379. the dow dropped more than 4% this month. the nasdaq falling 157, down nearly 7% in october. elon musk tweeting last night that tesla is now selling a less expensive version of the model 3, starting at $45,000. it comes with a midrange battery that can go 260 miles per
4:40 am
charge. tesla has promised a $35,000 model 3 but that's been shelved until next year. musk says the actual cost of the car is close to 35k when you factor in federal and state tax credits and closer to 31k with gas savings. however, you do have to take delivery by the end of the year to get the full federal tax credit. uber is testing an on-demand staffing service that will let companies recruit temp workers like security guards and waiters for events. it's been working on the project the past several months run in los angeles.urre lower than usual. driv i p marcus and laura, back to you. >> there's always something to do. interesting, thanks. coming up here on "today in the bay," an all-important friday and weekend forecast. how's it going to look for us? >> it's very important and quite lovely. 53 degrees right now in san francisco. we've had a lot of sunshine, but is it going to make it into our

saturday and our sunday? i'll break that down for you coming up in just a bit. and right here, no breakdown, a smooth drive for 101 through san jose. this is just north of 680. there's a lot of traffic out there for folks who want to find it. we'll show you what we find coming up. can you make this vid?
4:42 am
4:43 am
...it doesn )t help the welcome back, everyone. can you make this video out? a little grainy, black and white, the sun is still down. this is a live camera from mt. rose near lake tahoe. in the corner if you squint, you can see a little bit of know. you know what? ski season is almost here! but only for mt. rose right now
4:44 am
for season pass holders. it's high up there. the resort is actually opening today and tomorrow for people with a ski pass for mt. rose. this is the earliest they have ever opened. boy, the resorts are trying to crank out that e gting close to opening. at squaw they have been busy making snow this week. squaw plans to open about a month from now. what we really need is a taste of the real stuff. you know, a big storm. >> i was getting ready to say where are they getting that snow at squaw valley? because i have not -- >> they're making it. they're making it. >> just spray some water in the air. >> but it's a while off before we get a good juicy storm? >> well, maybe not a while off, but a while from our long-range outlook which is ten days. so no snow within the next ten days. but we've been talking about that rain chance, it's looking likely, guys. if you're a fan of welcoming rainy days, this may not be your
4:45 am
time to get that rain. but right now temperatures in the 40s and 50s. 54 in san jose. hayward also at about 54 degrees. check out palo alto, 48 degrees. our microclimate highs today, once again warming up a little bit, especially in the interior valleys by a couple of degrees. we'll get a ridge of high pressure roll in through the weekend. morgan hill 86, east san jose 84 and concord running a few degrees warmer. concord a hig i mean come on, 88 degrees. walnut creek 87. through the peninsula, 75 degrees. it's not as cloudy right now but don't be surprised if we see low clouds rolling in along with patchy fog in through the peninsula and the city as well. embarcadero 69, mission 72. ukiah 88 and novato 84 degrees. i do want to give you a heads up because there is an air quality advisory in effect for today. the reason for that is because
4:46 am
we're starting to get some of that smoke and haze from those oregon fires in the southern portion of oregon that's trailing and making its way down here. we're not seeing windy conditions so this will help better the air quality towards the weekend but anybody dealing with any respiratory issues, try to limit your outdoor exposure and close all those windows nice and tight. dangerous waves will continue through today. we're going to see waves upward of six aves. and rip currents a possibility. let's talk about that rain because i've been teasing this futurecast, this system. the models are continuously showing this gearing more towards the far north, which is going to leave us a little bit dryer than what we were hoping for. but the north bay still has the best chance of seeing some showers. we'll keep the showers in the forecast, especially for anything north of the golden gate bridge. now, if you live south of the golden gate bridge, it's going to be a very light chance of seeing some rain all the way
4:47 am
from tuesday to possibly even friday. just kind of depending on how quickly that system moves through. then we clear out right behind that. but we will see a cooling from this system. over the next seven days, here's what you can expect. saturday and sunday temperatures stay in the upper 60s and then the temperatures start to tip into monday as that storm starts inching toward the northern coast bringing with it, again, a very slight chance of showers. mainly for the north bay. but the temperatures, you'll notice a nice drop with temps only reaching upper 70s for inland areas. that's what it looks like right now at squaw creek lake >> right here we're looking at stuff. a glowing bridge as well. westbound, the taillights coming around the bend in toward the treasure island tunnel, no slowing and no disruption over the last ten minutes, 15 minutes i've been tracking that. since the report popped up of a disabled vehicle, it was changed to something over on the right shoulder.
4:48 am
there may be a quick traffic break if the bridge crew has to remove that. you saw the traffic was pretty light over there. contra costa county, a smooth drive out of pittsburg, antioch, concord. over there, the orange, a little bit of fog maybe creeping around, some low clouds at the very least for p o tracking it the golden gate bridge. the dumbarton bridge is no problem and northbound 880 around the alameda exit, we do have a crash affecting your fast lane as you get over toward that scene because a car did scrape into that center divide and they're waiting for help over there. meanwhile we're looking at the rest of the south bay. no major problems for the speed centers. the golden gate bridge, yeah, we can see the cars and we can see the deck. we can also see the haze. those clouds will start to develop into fog and perhaps along the coast. you saw those patches throughout the north bay. yesterday santa rosa saw some fog, likely today as well, but no problems reported from chp. back to you. >> sounds good. here's a question you don't
4:49 am
usually ask this early morning, but do you love canned tuna? a san diego company is pleading guilty to price fixing. starkist faces a fine up to they were accusedf2013. test results are in and san francisco's drinking water has no trace of pesticides. laste. the reports came mostly from the sunset district with some people saying that their home testing kits showed signs of pesticides. last night the public utilities commission says more than 20 samples were taken and none came up positive for pesticides. they also say that it appears the water was never unsafe to drink. so this is just a little drop, but it is symbolic. a new study says for the first time in seven years rents are dropping in the bay area. zillow did a study from last september to this september. it shows in that time rents have fallen. by how much? well, less than a percent. >> they're saying it down
