weekend. >> right around the corner. thanks for starting your morning with us, i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia. everybody is excited for friday and we should have pretty decent weather. >> marcus, speaking of that haze you were talking about, there is an air quality advisory in place because of haze. that's because of active wildfires burning in southern oregon and that's going to affect parts of the bay area, so just be mindful of that as you head into the afternoon. but right now san jose 54 degrees. we will see some of those low clouds already creeping in as a matter of fact. by 12:00 we'll be in the upper 70s. we'll keep the sunshine around and then we've got a couple of changes maybe even into your late overnight hours. we'll talk about that coming up in just a bit. let's send things over to mike. we're looking at a smooth flow of traffic around most of these sensors here, all green. we're following some debris over on the bay bridge. 580 approaching north livermore

avenue where an earlier crash was reported, we do have some activity and slowing. flashing lights must have arrived. i'm hoping the tow truck has arrived to help clear this because we see that commute starting to build. even on a friday, even early we see that slowing. but aside from that things are moving smoothly around the rest of the bay. here's the peninsula side with an easy light drive, north 101 the taillights and south past university and inspect towards silicon valley. several streets are shut down in the east bay right now. police are looking for a suspect. >> "today in the bay's" pete suratos has arrived. what can you tell us so far? >> reporter: good morning to you. we are trying to get more details to confirm exactly what took place, but we're standing on 23rd avenue. you can see the street is blocked off between 15th street and foothill boulevard. now, it isn't too far from garfield elementary school in the area, so not sure exactly how all of this is going to impact school over there in that
5:02 am
area. but you see there, there's quite a police scene here. we're working to get more details on exactly why this is blocked off. this was not too long ago, you had the designated arrest team showing up here, so we're not exactly sure why they are here but you saw a pretty big force here not too long ago. we did get a 911 alert there was a possible foot chase. shots were fired, no officers were injured and a subject may be barricaded in this area. we still need to confirm that information with oakland police as we're just getting here to the scene. we'll take you back out here live to this police scene. we'll try to track someone down with police and have another update for you at 5:30. we're live here in oakland, pete suratos for "today in the bay." out in the open, the san jose diocese releasing the name of 15 priests with credible accusations of sexual abuse of

children. the instant reaction has been why were some of them reassigned after they were accused, and in three cases convicted. kris sanchez joins us from the san jose diocese with that reaction. good morning, kris. >> reporter: hi there, marcus. people reached out immediately, some of them really shocked to hear that some of these priests served in the parishes where they grew up, particularly after they were convicted. now, of the 15 priests who were on the diocese list of accused priests, only five are still living. we talked with one who maintains that he is innocent and that he left the ministry of his own accord. another, lionel noya was convicted in 1976 and went to jail for three years, but then still went on to three different churches in san jose between 1978 and 2002. toro was a registered sex offender in 1983, if you can believe that, and yet still served in several parishes in morgan hill and palo alto four years after that.
5:04 am
vicky nguyen pushed the bishop at wednesday's listening session about whether he personally helped cover up reports of abuse by priests. >> that's absolutely untrue. absolutely. >> so you're saying the church is not sheltering any other priests? >> absolutely not, no. >> do you think this current bishop, bishop mcgraw, has been involved personally in covering up any reports of abuse? >> yeah. i like him. i consider him a friend. >> reporter: that survivor says that his parents reported abuse by father joseph pritchard at st. martin's church in san jose and no one so much as wrote it down. records show that pritchard was transferred to st. nicholas in los altos but up until the day he died, he never faced criminal charges. those are just some of the stories coming out of this landmark release of names here in the san jose diocese. but we have a lot more stories
