today after disappointing earnings results from amazon and google's parent company, alphabet. stocks recovered on thursday following some steep losses in the previous trading session. the dow broke its three-day losing streak, closing at 401 points, and finished at, excuse me, closing 401 points higher and the nasdaq gained 210 points, breaking a two-day losing streak to close at 7318. today investor also get consumer sentiment data and advance read on third quarter gdp. ford is recalling nearly 1.5 million ford focus that could stall due to a fuel tank problem. the affected cars could have difficulty restarting or could diy any accidents connected to the fuel tank defect. away. starbucks is putting the treat in trick-or-treat. the seattle based coffee chain unveiling a new witch's brew

clear skies and then we see a lot of sunshine today, those temperatures gradually warming up. by 11:00, we're at 68 degrees. let's head to the south bay and check out highs for this afternoon, up to 85 in gilroy today. little warmer than yesterday. milpitas reaching 81 and we'll see warmer temperatures in the tri valley with danville reaching 87 and martinez reaching into the low 80s while antioch reaches 82 degrees. we'll be up to 74 today in san mateo. daly city warmer there as well, 67, and 70 today in the mission district, and for the north bay, reaching into the upper 70s to lower 80s. as you're stepping out this stly clear lig jacket to rt, start but because we'll see sunshine, sunglasses and shorts will keep you comfortable. we're seeing high pressure moving in and it's giving us with the winds flowing around that high pressure more of a northwesterly wind and when the winds come from the north rather

than the west, we get some warmer temperatures but then by the beginning of next week, we're going to see the storm track moving across the pacific northwest, bringing some rain to the far northern corner of california. that will not make it to the bay area, but we will get more cloud cover, and some cooler temperatures, just in time for halloween. but by the end of next week, it's going to heat up once again so we are not done with summer yet, as we see all of the rain across parts of oregon and washington state this morning, wn to visit the bay area, playing the game tomorrow at stanford, and it's going to be a nice day. if you're going to the football game, we'll be at about 72 degrees at kickoff and then looking at some mid-60s through the late evening hours. and then for the inland areas, mid 80s today for some of our warmer spots. we'll bring it down to about 82, but that's still really warm for the end of october and then we are going to see those temperatures once again cooling down and going right back up, after halloween. mike, you're tracking a crash in

the tri valley. >> i am, but i noticed in the last 30 seconds we saw this crash pop up on our traffic reports over there, 101, just around redwood city. we'll track that because of course, it's been too quick for chp to arrive on that scene and i don't see any slowing there, south bay the same thing. we valley for southbound 680, talked about a crash that had popped up, chp has arrived there, they say approaching vargas your fast lane is blocked and a traffic break to move the vehicle from the center divide area and the fast lane to the shoulder. southbound your commute slows, be careful after you leave sunol from fremont, 238 is mission north, just a marker there for folks driving out of the tri valley. over here cocoa county to the north of that moves nicely out of the north bay for the benici bridges. i've seen sensors from red and close our too slow opening. south toward 23rd the crews are finishing up for the week. people are getting off and back

involving a sheriff's deputy. lucia was sentenced to two years for possession of a controlled substance for sale. lucia told us sheriff's deputy daniel swanson drove her to a medical exam at the hospital, while alone and handcuffed, he forced her to touch him, she also accuses him of asking her for sex and showing her naked photos of himself on the phone. district attorney filed charges against the deputy for felony assault by a public officer and misdemeanor sexual battery. swanson's attorneys did notspon comment. he pled not guilty. these are not isolated cases. new data from the department of justice shows reports of sexual victimization of inmates by staff have more than tripled in a five-year period from just over 4,000 a year to more than 14,000, and substantiated reports rose 43%. experts say jails and prisons must create guidelines for transporting inmates because that is an area where they are vulnerable to abuse. to see excerpts of lucia's
