5:00 am
weekend. >> almost looks orange and black. >> right around the corner, halloween. good morning to you. thanks so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. mike will have a look at the traffic, more green hopefully? >> we got a lot of red in one section you're not going to like. >> first we get a look at weather this morning. >> it looks pretty good today, but it's going to be a little bit warmer than we've seen recently, as you head out the door, on your way to the pleasant hill b.a.r.t. station, another cool start, some low 50s and look at how fast it warms up, 11:00 it is 63 degrees. let's head down to san jose, headed out the door to diridon station we're also going to see a fast warmup as we go into the afternoon. we'll have a look at all of our microclimates coming up. mike, now we have a traffic alert? >> the crash we reported in the sunol frsh fremont area coming out of the tri valley declared a traffic alert. there is the crash we're tracking redwood city southbound
5:01 am
sees slowing there. i bigger issue for the tri valley in your commute direction, southbound 680, folks coming out of livermore, dublin, san ramon and out of the cocoa county, we have all this jamming up because two left lanes are and chp just said they're thinking it will be about an hour and a half until they can clear the crash and the nails scattered across southbound 680 at vargas. that will be an issue. we'll see this as your commute direction with the typical build, about 6:00 and we also have this, we'll see more traffic going over through castro valley as folks try to avoid that portion of 680 and we'll see how that affects the traffic build for hayward as well. friday a lighter build but today a shift likely for the tri valley. we'll send it back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. i want to bring you up to speed on what is happening, the developing situation unfolding south of our border, that massive migrant caravan headed tonso restrict their ability toxcluve ordmigra
5:02 am
including asylum seekers. at least 800 active duty troops are also expected to be sent to the border. earlier this morning, president trump tweeted "to those in the caravan. turn around. we are not letting people into the united states illegally." parents say they are going for their children's futures. >> we're looking to are a better future, trying to look for a job, looking for the best. >> now let's bring in "today in the bay's" kris sanchez, she's in berkeley, where later today people in the bay area will get a chance to send help to those migrants. kris? >> reporter: good morning to you, marcus and laura. for the folks in washington, the caravan might be a political issue. for folks in berkeley especially young students, for them it is really all about the people, and they want to be able to help with goods and money. that's why they're having a fund-raiser tonight.
5:03 am
this is video of the students rehearsing for a concert. it's happening here at the first presbyterian church in berkeley with all proceeds going to the migrant clinicians network. that's the organization that provides medical care for immigrant families in detention centers while they seek asylum. the organizing students tell us they can't just sit and watch this happen. >> this is a world we're inheriting and it's important for young people to get used to fighting to are what we want. >> i think the biggest thing for me was finding a place for us to like put our anger, because just like with anything else, if you're just going to be angry and not do anything with it, you're not helping. >> i think this is a great way for people in the community to come together and show our support to the families and children that are struggling down at the border. >> reporter: now the goal is to raise $10,000 tonight.
5:04 am
doors open at 7:00 for the event at the first presbyterian church. donations will be accepted at the door. the migrants have been on the move and walking for the last two weeks. along the way they've gotten help with water, food and some medicine. most of that coming from private citizens, like these young people here in berkeley. in berkeley, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much, kris. it is 5:04. incriminating video allegedly posted by the victim in a child sex crime leads to the arrest of a palo alto elementary school teacher. the victim in this case is now a student at woodside high school. that is where a fellow student noticed several videos online believed to be shot by the victim on her cell phone. that student told the principal, who called police. santa clara county d.a. steve flagstaff tells us the suspect is 49-year-old don gianni and the videos document sex acts spanning a year, when the victim was 14. >> we know that this occurred in
5:05 am
at least two counties. it occurred in redwood city and a trip to santa cruz she took with the victim, and there was sexual activity there. >> wagstaffe says the victim was elieve the victimf the teacher.s herself p videos. giannini is held on $1.7 million bond. just a few hours, one of the defendants accused of the ghost ship warehouse fire returns to court. derek almena and max harris face 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter for the death of the december 2016 fire. the hearing on the motion by almena is happening this morning. almena alleges a judge made an error in rejecting a plea agreement in his case. police are questioning the drama that played out yesterday in fairfield, when a woman yesterday at officers from a passing car that she was being held against her will.
5:06 am
officers followed the car. few blocks later, it swerved into other cars before crashing on east traffic boulevard. investigators learned the woman shot and killed the 22-year-old man driving the car. now police say the man and woman lived together. >> was she a victim of domestic violence, which is why we withhold her name, is she a suspect in the unlawful killing, which is what a murder is, but it could very well be justified. that's what we're trying to determine at this point. >> police say a 10-month-old baby was in the back seat, uninjured. the woman is said to be cooperating with investigators. people who broadcast their lives and interests online and the people who watch them are coming together in south bay. twitch con kicks off in a few hours in san jose. bob redell is live outside of mcinnery convention center. security is expected to be tighter than usual. >> reporter: correct, marcus. you'll recall this past august, when a man shot and killed two people and then himself this was
5:07 am
at an online gaming competition in jacksonville, florida. that event was streamed by twitch, the amazon company putting on twitch con in hossan jose. no backpacks allowed and past the barricades there will be metal detectors and there will be uniform police and security guards on site. tens of thousands are expected to attend this three-day event here at the mcenery convention center in downtown san jose, meet greets, cosplay conors ands tournament streamed live on twitch. twitch is the 14th most visited website in the united states, with more than 15 million daily visitors last year, according to a company spokesperson and just like youtube, users who broadcast on twitch can make money not just through ads, but through donations from viewers
5:08 am
and by charging viewers a subscription fee. ninja, this guy's name, is one of the top streamers on twitch, who according to cnbc, listen to this, he makes over half a million dollars a month just for playing the very popular video game fortnite and broadcasting his game play on twitch. so if you're thinking about coming to twitchcon this weekend, marcus and laura, i know you are, bad news, i looked online and the tickets are sold out. >> oh. >> reporter: reporting live in san jose -- i know, what?! >> sign me up. you can watch me play a video any day for half a million month. wow,! . it will be a fun time out there. 5:08. happening today, it's world lemur day. the san francisco zoo will be celebrating. it's hosting a groundbreaking event in its new lipman family madagascar center at 11:00 this
5:09 am
morning. going to get pumpkins. who knew they liked pumpkins? >> lucky lemur. >> leaping lemur! >> and a good time for the lemurs to enjoy the day. >> good time to visit the zoo as well and go out there and see them. live look outside this morning from emeryville, all clear skies as we start out the day. we're seeing some drier air moving in, so if you're about to go out for a workout this morning, in the peninsula around burlingame it's in the mid-50s this morning. nice, cool start. we'll get some sunshine and our temperatures heading toward the mid-60s by noon. let's get out the door for school this morning, as you get out around the tri valley, our morning start will be in the lower 50s and then we'll see it warming up into the upper 70s by 1:00, so our highs will be much warmer than yesterday. so maybe you're going to head to the beach, santa cruz is looking nice with some low 60s, low 70s i should say by early afternoon. we'll head over toward mike. the big problem is for that tri valley commute.
5:10 am
>> the only problem. we don't expect any slowing this early, 5:09, just about 5:10, the tri valley this stands out because everywhere else is green. southbound 680 jammed up from highway 84 and folks are likely now starting to head through alvarado niles to get out of the backup. two lanes are blocked at vargas road. i've seen a little shift to the backup here but still even though one of the vehicles involved in this crash has been cleared, chp still issues that traffic alert and they report debris, a lot of nails across the roadway, and they don't think that will be cleared up for another hour, hour and a half, so possibly until 6:30, we may have this issue coming out of the tri valley. right now, you're about 20 minutes additional, maybe 25 almost as you travel down through the portion of the tri valley. we'll map out some options for you coming up. back to you. >> thanks, mike. it is 5:10. still ahead on "today in the bay," megyn kelly goes head to head with nbc. at 5:25, we'll tell you what the network is now saying about her
5:11 am
show and its future, after her controversial comments. and another new iphone goes on sale today. why it's one you probably wish you had waited for. marcus? >> scott, do you know how to eat a burrito? >> of course. >> i don't. i'll stick around for the next story, what the internet is talking about, after justin bieber was caught doing this. >> what?! >> why is this traumatizing people and we'll break down the proper burrito eating technique so this isndoesn't happen to yor me. it is 5:11. stick around.

5:14 am
we've made it to friday. right now it's 5:14. we have clear skies and let's head to cupertino. our day starts out cool, we'll see things going up fairly quickly. we're heading up into the upper 70s by early afternoon. lot of sunshine today. i think you'll enjoy it, but we are going to have more of this and a cooldown and back up. coming up in less than five minutes. >> here is the issue, unexpectedly jammed out of cocoa county, down toward alamedavall for the foreseeable future. we'll talk about the forecast and an alternate coming up. very happy friday to you. kari talked about up and down numbers on her board, up and down numbers on the markets as well. thursday an up day, today you can expect a down day. we get quarterly gdp numbers at reflected one-time gains from the tax cut.

stores today. it's the other iphone, the less expensive of the new phones that debuted last month. it took a while but it's finally here and you can buy it today. it's one of those cases where maybe you wish you hadn't stood in line for the brand new ones, because tech reviewers say the 10r available today is nearly as good as all the other iphone 10s, but much, much less expensive. now it's got an aluminum case, not stainless steel, one camera in the back, no the two, but it is significantly less expensive than the other iphone 10s, and so it's a good buy. especially for people who want to take pictures and surf on the internet. >> get something better than you've got already. >> like my dad, just make a phone call. >> who would just do that? >> you call like audio of people. >> i put him on my family plan, he just makes calls. he got the most expensive iphone and it got charged to me and i don't have the heart to tell
