can get the lanes reopened. this accident happened last night around 10:40. one reason it took so long to get the road reopened, people died. as a result chp's major accident investigation team had to try to recreate what happened, that took time and the issue of separating the wreckage and removing the bodies, which was a process. like i said, around 10:40 last night, there was a small tour bus headed northbound 680, it hit stop and go traffic near whipple and hayward on the border with union city. that bus failed to stop and collided with two cars. it ended up on top of a lexus, and pushed a ford sedan underneath a ups big rig. the drivers of both those cars, one a man, the other a woman, they decided there on the scene. there are no passengers in the cars, nor the tour bus or big rig, just drivers involve, support people. chp says the male driver of the tour bus is cooperating with their investigation. >> at this point, we don't believe drugs or alcohol played a part in this traffic accident. >> reporter: what about texting
6:03 am
and driving, falling asleep? >> that's still under investigation. we're looking into all causes of this collision. >> reporter: the far left lane of that section of northbound 880 was shut down last night for construction. chp will be looking into whether or not that played a role in this doublet t take you back li above northbound 880. again, over union city and hayward through nbc bay area sky ranger. as i mentioned a reopening thos. you could take a look at your tv screen and get a sense of what the progress atis alvarado nil should be reopening that right now, as i speak. it looks like i see flashing yellow lights, not sure if that's indication or might be the clover leaf. the point is they're getting ready to reopen. bob redell, "today in the bay." >> tough morning but things are starting to get back to normal. thank you, bob. it is 6:04 right now. taking a live look outside at
