reaching 82 in livermore. concord, 85 degrees. 85 in napa. san jose, 81 degrees. it's warm. we'll talk about how this weather continues in the weekend forecast coming up. as we head over to vianey, are things improving on the roads? >> definitely improving, which is great to hear. things are improving as we see the sig alert but we're noticing that typical traffic morning flow. we're seeing accidents pop up. this popped up near milpitas. i'll check into that one. let's give you an update on the earlier sig alert. i have fantastic news. that sig alert has been canceled. this is along the bay bridge. if you're just now joining us, you're joining us at a perfect time because eastbound near treasure island, originally we had all lanes blocked. now all lanes are completely opened. just starting to see the residual backup from the earlier crash. on the westbound side we had a crash near the toll plaza. the metering lights are on so we

can expect to see delays. westbound 80 towards bay bridge, you're looking at 11 minutes. back to you. 6:01. breaking news. the search for a gunman who shot and injured three young people in east san jose. happened about 10:00 last night outside san jose's seven trees community center. police say a group of juveniles were hanging out when someone walked up, shot and took off. police do not believe the shooting is gang-related but it is under investigation. 6:02. the 49ers will host the raiders in the battle of the bay giving the intense rivalry among fans. law enforcement wants to make sure they keep that battle on the football field. "today in the bay's" bob redell live outside levi stadium with extra security measures for the game tonight. bob? >> reporter: marcus, it's no secret between the 49ers and raiders has sometimes become violent.

santa clara police department has acknowledged there's fighting between both sides. law enforcement and 49ers are sending a message to fans tonight, don't do it. at tonight's prime time battle of the bay at levi stadium, santa clara police will be deploying extra officers, including undercover officers wearing team jerseys. you think about the last time the raiders hosted the 49ers, it was held at candlestick park. the security measures were nothing like they will encounter at levi stadium. the metal detectors fans walk through are much more sophisticated. levi stadium is outfitted with 800 surveillance cameras so police can monitor any problems. you get in trouble, you can end up with niners 3500-square-foot temporary holding facility. law enforcement is imploring fans tonight to please behaif. >> if you're there to cause trouble, you'll never know where a police officer is nearby, ready to take action.

>> it's usually a handful of bad actors that cause problems for everybody, but we're looking for you. and we'll be prepared for you if you're going to be one of those folks. we'd really prefer you come in, have a good time and make good choices. >> also, police are not going to allow fans to wear masks tonight, such as the darth vader mask that you commonly see in the raiders' black hole rooting section nor any other halloween masks, for that matter. even though the game is sold out, tickets are still available through resell websites. kickoff tonight at 5:20. reporting live outside levi stadium in santa clara, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> we'll keep all that action on the field tonight. thanks, bob. >> so important. 6:04 right now. pg&e now saying there's no plan to reimburse north bay customers claiming financial loss from the recent pre-emptive power outages. the utility for the first time ever purposely shut off power due to extremely high fire danger. the move affected some 60,000

customers and in some cases power only returned three days later. pg&e turned in a new report to r regulators saying 150 customers demanded reimbursement. it was mostly for spoiled food. pg&e released photos showing a few of the 18 instances of power lines and poles damaged by high winds. going forward they plan to do these pre-emptive outages only in extreme situations. a follow-up to this story we covered all morning as breaking news yesterday right here on "today in the bay." the deadly four-vehicle crash on interstate 880 in hayward that brought traffic to a standstill. the two drivers who died have now been identified. one is 57-year-old renee rodriguez of hayward. she was on her way home from work when investigators say an empty tour bus slammed into several cars. we spoke with her grieving husband. >> don't ever take your wife for granted because tomorrow's not promised to you.

>> the other driver who died is identified as 46-year-old lamumbo richard of san leandro. chp says that that bus pushed his car into a u.p.s. big rig. so far, the bus company is not commenting on the investigation. the chp does not believe drugs nor alcohol played a role. le happening today, you can start catching nonstop flights from silicon valley to carlsbad in san diego county. california pacific airlines will start offering that service out of san jose international airport. the flights vary but we did find those tickets on the airline's website, we found them for like $99 each way. you can bring two checked bags and a small carry-on for free. it is 6:06 right now with just days left until the midterm elections. the candidates in the governor's race making a final push for your vote. republican john cox making several stops on his bus tour today, including one in vallejo.

he'll tour a charter school while there this morning. democrat gavin newsom taking a different approach. his team is working on a virtual text bank, encouraging voters to cast their ballots. with the buzz around this year's midterms we're flooded with, the campaign mail, the ads on tv and a lot of talk on social media as the "today" show's kasey hunt reports, voters are not thrilled. >> reporter: good morning. you cannot get away from them as we 3ush towards the midterm election. the political ads are on tv, in your social media feeds and on your phone. the reality is, this is the most expensive midterm election in history. and also one of the nastiest. some voters are getting pretty tired of it at this point. >> i don't like it. it's too time-consuming. >> it's gotten worse. it's more and more and more. >> i let them stack up and then i shred them. it's a waste of my time and they don't have enough consideration for me as a citizen. >> reporter: we'll take a look at all of that and break it down for you on "today."

bri bridge. we have bumper-to-bumper traffic. i have a look at the drive times coming up. and a very happy thursday to you. it's the 1st of november. we say, good-bye to a really ugly october. sf despite a two-day rally tuesday and wednesday. president trump tweeted, stock market up more than 400 points yesterday. today looks to be another good one. in fact, we're actually negative for the month on the dow. it was the biggest pullback on the s&p 500 we've seen in seven years. apple reports its profits this afternoon. google in the news today. that talk of a walkout i was telling you about yesterday, that's turned into a solid plan. employees led by women engineers plan a walkout of google offices this morning be. they're upset by a series of reports that started in "the new york times" that a number of google executives had lost their jobs over the years due to sexual misbehaviors but kept their bonuses and sent home with

multimillion dollar packages. the ceo of google says he supports today's walkout. while he acknowledges some executives did get big payouts, he said 48 people, including 13 senior managers, were dismissed in the last two years without exit packages. i mentioned it's the 1st of november. today is the deadline for president trump, we set the 10% middle class tax cut. he made that promise to us several times over the past few weeks, despite reporters pointing out congress is not in session and they can't pass laws because they're not there. nonetheless, the president said we'd have the tax cut or at least see the plan by this morning. nine days ago, he told reporters it would be, quote, a very major tax cut for middle income people, which congress is, quote, studying very deeply around the clock for another tax cut. not for business at all. by november 1st or sooner.

cupertino makes it up to 79 degrees. 82 in milpitas. it will feel like summer again, but this will be the peak of our warmest temperatures and our cooldown will be very slight. we're looking at a high of 82 in livermore. 76 in oakland. 77 in san mateo. san francisco, mostly low 70s today with gusty westerly winds. for the north bay, a lot of mid-80s there. we are going to still have the same weather pattern not changing. this high pressure is not moving. as we see the winds circulating around the high pressure, giving us an offshore wind flow, at we've seen high clouds mix in, we'll see more of the same as we go through the day but no rain. how was your halloween? mine was pretty good, but the struggle is real. i'm @karihallweather. just trying to take pictures of my kids. i have to admit, i'm a little jealous. everyone got their kids to look at the camera and smile for those halloween pictures.

as we recover this morning, we'll be in the mid-80s. more of that very warm weather. we set our clocks back one hour on sunday morning. we still have some 80s in the forecast inland while san francisco stays in the 60s. heading over to vianey, how's it looking out there, especially through milpitas? >> it's going okay but, kari, as far as the kids not looking at the camera, i'll blame the candy and excitement on that. now, the bay area we have noticed a couple more accidents popping up. let's get right to that milpitas crash i was talking about because i have noticed slowing on southbound mission boulevard. that right-hand lane is blocked. that will create a hazard as people slow down. be careful on the roads. another crash along westbound 237 at lawrence expressway right here. it looks like the slow lane is blocked. i haven't seen any heavy delays through that area so it could be that traffic is starting to built through there.

one thing i have definitely noticed is the building traffic along the san mateo bridge. now, chp hasn't reported any crashes on the san mateo bridge, but look at the drive times. your bridge drive times are the slowest from westbound 92 heading towards the san mateo bridge at 46 minutes. of course, the metering lights are on at the bay bridge. it just changed right there from westbound 80 towards the bay bridge, about 19 minutes. a heavy commute for the bridges. back to you. 6:19 right now. coming up next on "today in the bay" -- burning out. california's legal marijuana sales not off to a great start. what the government is doing to make sure people can get the pot they want. a seven-figure shortfall in their insurance policy. nbc bay area responds next. first, nbc's bob redell is throwing it back for us on this thursday. check out this video.

much warmer temperatures in concord. we'll be up to 85 today at 4:00. all of our microclimating showing 80s. we'll get a look at the weekend forecast coming up and vianey has a look at your morning commute. >> starting to get busy out on the roads. the typical buildup as we approach 70, where you can see slowing along 880. i haven't seen any accidents reported but this is a hot spot around this time. i want to give you an update on where i am starting to notice slowing in the south bay. there is a crash along 237 westbound at lawrence expressway. the slow lane was blocked. i'm noticing more slowing up ahead. i haven't seen chp report anything near this area. it could just be slowing, typical bumper-to-bumper. we're like, why is everyone slowing down. we're also seeing san mateo and the bay bridge getting busy. we have bumper-to-bumper traffic along the san mateo bridge.

the metering lights have been on for a while but at least that earlier sig alert has cleared out and all lanes are open for the eastbound and westbound lanes. back to you. >> thank you. all new this morning, a dramatic scene on the streets right there of san jose. sideshows taking over those roads. crowds gathering. this is a problem that plagues the bay area. we've seen those sideshows from the south bay to the east bay, even along the east bay bridge. kris sanchez is live for what happened overnight. this is something that's really plaguing the entire bay area. >> reporter: yeah, i can show you there are skid marks at this intersection where one of those sideshows was busted last night. as you watch the video take a look at how close those spectators try to get to that action.

this happened at gish road and i-80. san jose police, santa clara sheriff's department heard chatter that drivers were planning to descend on san jose and perhaps shut down the freeway. chp managed to keep the freeways open and running but drivers took to city streets instead. over on kertner avenue under highway 77, a crash. sheriff's deputies caught up with a suspected sideshow driver who was trying to flee. that driver was arrested. at oakland road and highway 101, another arrest. san jose police directed officers on the street as they spotted this suspect activity from helicopters above. communities around the bay area are battling sideshows. you might remember a few weeks ago we showed you these large ceramic discs contra costa county will use to narrow those trouble intersections. chp officers confirmed they arrested two people and impounded several cars.

san jose police within the last 20 minutes told us they issued three citations and they didn't take anybody's cars off the streets. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> thank you. 6:32 and new this morning, a flight recorder from a crash of indonesian jet is now in investigators' hands. overnight divers recovered it from the sea floor. it's a crucial development in that investigation into what caused the two-month-old lion air jet to crash earlier this week. that boeing 737 max-8 aircraft went down early monday just minutes after the takeoff from jakarta with 189 people on board. it's 6:33 right now. this morning the world continues to remember san francisco giants' legend willie mccovey. he died yesterday. baseball star bringing back so many memories for so many people. >> he was a gentleman, a great baseball player. when you fall in love with someone when you're little and you watch them grow old, yeah.

>> and this morning flags are still flying at half-staff here at at&t park. mccovey cove named for the giants' superstar. really a pillar of the community. pete joins us from live outside the stadium this morning. so many people continue to talk about this on social media, sharing their memories. he was at a lot of those games, pete. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you, laura. he was definitely at a lot of those games. on this sad morning, i can't think of a better place to be than in front of mccovey cove or here in front of mccovey cove. you have a growing memorial at that willie mccovey statue. with the passing of willie mccovey yesterday at the age of 80, you're talking about a larger than life icon in baseball not only in the bay area but definitely beyond. there are plenty of reaction on social media. the first one i want to show is from barry bonds, the san francisco giants' great, expressing his sadness over the passing of one of his mentors in the game of baseball, saying

he'll keep that tradition of giants baseball living forever. another tweet by jesse jackson calling mccovey one of the greatest baseball players of all time. and this last tweet, this is from bill russell, the boston celtics legend and native of the bay area, expressing his sadness over the passing of a dear friend. like many of us, he's sharing his thoughts and prayers with the family of willie mccovey. as far as mccovey's career, one heck of a career. he was the rookie of the year in 1959. then went on to become the mvp in 1969. and, of course, he hit more than 500 career home runs. nbc bay area did interview him about a month ago and he talked about his deep connection to the city of san francisco. >> just a great city. i just felt in love with san francisco right off the bat. so, i didn't want to live anywhere else. and i didn't. everybody was nice.

i used to go to a lot of events in the off-season and everybody treated me well. they took to me. kind of adopted me in a way. it was like a magical time for me. >> reporter: san francisco was paying tribute to willie mccovey by lighting city hall and coit tower orange last night. and inside at&t park, the scoreboard showing mccovey's retired number, 44. now, the giants are planning a public memorial for mccovey. when we get those details, we'll bring it to you. >> nice to see all the tributes there. thanks. 6:36 for you right now. as cigarette smoking continues to decline, the new trend of e-cigarettes is growing with young americans. now, we've done plenty of reporting on this. one of the most popular e-cigarette brands there, juul,

closing permanently. you'll no longer be able to enter in front of hotel at eighth and market. b.a.r.t. is making upgrades to the service. they're planning to turn part of the civic center into a new substation for trains that run through the transbay tube. it's 6:38 and the traffic is starting to build. the east bay right now is looking pretty rough in terms of the southbound 880 commute. there's a crash being reported. this is near exit 30, the right lane is blocked. this has been going on probably for the past 10, 15 minutes. i noticed these speed sensors turned from yellow to red, which means bumper-to-bumper. this is a hot spot. you want to head out the door right now. another hot spot i notice was along 237. that earlier crash along 237 at lawrence expressway has been cleared out. you can see we're still seeing

slowing. those speed sensors picking up red and yellow. let's check out your east bay drive times. that slowing is starting to go from green to orange to red. south bay 580 to vargas road you're looking at 23 minutes. hit the door now. >> or just sit back and relax a little while. the weekend is coming. >> yeah, it's thursday, almost friday. we love that. it's going to be a warm one, too. >> it's going to feel like summer this weekend. as you make plans, you may be making your plans based on where it's going to be the most comfortable for you. we'll be in the mid-80s for the inland areas. the bay reaching the mid-70s. and the coast in the mid-60s. a lot of sunshine here. your sunday forecast will be up to 67 for the coast. the bay at 71 degrees for the high. and inland valleys reaching lower 80s. and you may be heading out to day of the dead celebrations.

living in rvs, parking on city streets. it's a growing problem across the bay area. happening today, oakland is launching a new safe parking program to try to curb the issue. as you can see right here in this video, a number of people have park the in places that aren't always secure. the city council is planning to spend $8.6 million to provide parking areas that will provide social services and a safe location. that money will also help build three new tuff shed academies for people living in tents or other makeshift she woulters on streets. rvs parking along the street is issue an yuls in mountain view. city leaders are working to come up with a solution for those who are being priced out of the housing market. new this morning, the issue of car seats has become a growing concern as ride-sharing apps like uber and lyft become popular. a new study from virginia tech

america prosperous, which is in turn partly funded by google, which supports him. i have evidence of that support and the documents from the election commission. you'll find that on my facebook page @scottmcgrew. new this morning, walmart is the latest rele tailer taking a step in the direction of amazon's go stores. while this won't be exactly like simply walking in, grabbing something and walking out, some shoppers don't necessarily have to stop at a register anymore. instead, starting today, customers can use walmart's app to purchase some items on the spot, including tvs or furniture. scanners will also be available at the busiest sections. shoppers can also ask employees to complete that transaction, if they can find one. walmart this week also rolling out its first mobile checkout sam's club store in texas. >> i know they have something at milpitas at the walmart there where you can buy everything from the app and walk out with

you'll be comfortable throughout the day with just your football jersey on. it will be in the upper 50s -- or upper 70s, i should say, and dropping back to 47 degrees after kickoff. our high temperatures, very warm for this time of year. it's november 1st. we're looking at widespread 80s for our inland valleys. while the coast will be in the 70s. a few upper 60s. as you're getting dressed this morning, you may need a sweater for those chilly temperatures during the early morning hours. and then summer-like clothing as we go throughout the rest of the day. we will see more 80s in our inland valley forecast throughout the next seven days as we set our clock back one hour on monday, it will warm up to 83 degrees in the afternoon. san francisco looking at some 60s throughout the rest of the forecast. vianey, any new issues out on the roads? >> no new issues, no major accidents but slowing. it's a balance as we inch closer to that 7:00 a.m. hour.

we're getting a normal pattern for this hour. the south bay starting to see slow spots along 101 and 280, but i haven't seen any major crashes. however, this one is definitely causing heavy delays along southbound 80. this was reported, exit 30, the right-hand shoulder was blocked and i was already noticing a slowing as it was. if 880 southbound is your commute, head out the door now. the eastbound lanes are not affected in any way. look at your east bay drive times. southbound 880 from 238, you're looking at 40 minutes. southbound 680 from 580 to vargas road, about 25 minutes. as far as your bridge drive times, also still seeing some slowing along westbound 80 towards the bay bridge, 26 minutes. you saw how that just changed. these are updated on the spot. westbound 92 to san mateo bridge, 36 minutes. >> maybe go to work a little later. 6:52. a big raise for amazon and whole food workers. today the company is raising the minimum wage to $15.

arrests, citations and impounded cars after sideshow activity shut down several san jose intersections overnight. the chp managed to keep the freeway open but drivers took to the city streets instead. they shut down gish road and i-880. one driver crashed under highway 57. chp san jose arrested two drivers and impounded their cars. in the last 40 minutes or so, san jose police told "today in the bay" they issued three citations but they did not impound any cars. early voting for the midterm elections is under way across the state. this morning an all new cal poll shows where several candidates stand. for the governor's race, gavin newsom is still in the lead with 58% of likely voters. in the race for the senate, incumbent dianne feinstein is leading over her opponent, kevin
