president trump staying front and center, just a few days until the election. you can see all the places that he's about to visit. the "today" show's peter alexander is in missouri, with the president's new message to migrants. >> reporter: president trump in the final blitz to the midterm focusing on the issue of immigration, announcing on thursday that he will sign an executive order next week that would automatically deny asylum to any migrants who enter the u.s. illegally between ports of entry. >> under this plan, the illegal alien also no longer get a free pass into our country by lodging meritless claims in seeking asylum. instead, migrants seeking asylum will have to present themselves lawfully at a port of entry. >> reporter: that's controversial, because it would violate u.s. and international law saying anyone can seek asylum once they get into another country, no matter how they get there. we'll have the latest this morning coming up on "today." back to you.

>> that's peter salexander reporting there. that was the president's message to migrants as more u.s. troops are set to arrive at the border. the bay area is coming together to help. kris? >> reporter: the bay area trying to send a different kind of message to those migrants who are making their way to the u.s. border in the caravan. some folks are collecting donations of goods to help them along their journey. some folks are helping with donations of money, but in oakland in downtown oakland, the latina collective is collecting supplies of water, food and clothing that they are going to deliver in person to that migrant caravan. donations can be dropped off at the beauty bottanica collective in oakland tonight. find details in my twitter feed about that. just a week ago, another group of students mobilized to raise money to help this group, strong voices, organize a benefit concert in berkeley hoping to raise $10,000 for the migrant

to a nearby shooting incident taking place near the event last month. >> "today in the bay's" pete suratos joins us live in oakland with details on what they're doing to keep oakland's first fridays safe. good morning, pete. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and marcus. it's a cool event in oakland, if you got a chance to check it out on telegraph avenue. as mentioned, it's canceled tonight as organizers reassess things and address safety concerns as a result of the shooting that took place at the last first fridays here in oakland. the shooting took place hours after the event wrapped up several blocks away but we know six people were injured as a result of that shooting. first fridays for those that aren't familiar has been around since 2006. it's a good mix of music, art and food along telegraph avenue between 27th and west grand avenue and look, it brings out thousands of people to the city, and that's exactly why the organizer wants to make sure it continues to be a safe environment. >> some of the immediate changes

are around messaging, and asking the community to come together to, you know, help make the event safe, around giving people places to go after the event to help with dispersement, so we're working with also opd, our private security companies. >> reporter: here is information for folks interested in talking about those concerns. there's going to be a town hall next thursday at oakland city hall from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. to discuss those safety concerns, so you'll get a chance to sound off on the issues there. but first friday also resume next month. the theme for next month will be peace and love. we're live here in oakland pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> you've seen protests outside of hotels happening today. workers involved in a massive hotel strike will speak to san francisco city leaders about the ongoing labor dispute. the board of supervisors is holding a hearing and nearly a thousand marriott employees are expected to attend. they're expected to protest

together at noon before headed to city hall. the union representing the workers have been in talks about contracts with the company since june. as "the examiner" is reporting here, marriott's ceo is rejecting an invitation to attend. a simmering san francisco bribery case that once sprang from the investigations of raymond "shrimp boy" chow closer to trial. they are charged with soliciting bribes from an undercover fbi agent. the same investigation eventually sent state senator leland ye to prison. a special celebration is taking place at the "uss hornet" museum in alameda this weekend commissioned in 1943. "the hornet" turns 75 years old this year and a celebration that will take place saturday on the ship. the event will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the museum

aboard the "uss hornet." there will be a live orchestra, dancing. plenty of music at that event. general admission starts at $55 with vip tables going for $1,200. it's really cool. all right, this morning at 6:08, as you get ready to head out the door, we have clear skies and our typical cool start to the morning. as we go over toward the city of campbell, we're going to be up to 58 degrees still at 10:00 it's going to be chilly out there, but then warming up quickly, headed into the afternoon, with mid-70s, and normally we're in the upper 60s to low 70s. moving over to dublin, where we will be at about 51 degrees, as you start your day. lunch time outside 74 degrees, and enjoy it before it gets very warm, reaching into the low 80s today going into the afternoon. look at our microclimates with near record high temperatures today, reaching into the mid 80s inland. napa 84 degrees. also 84 today in santa rosa. mike, is it still moving slowly through fremont?

turning on the air conditioning. it's going to heat up into the upper 70s by 1:00 today and still going up from there, and getting the kids up and out the door for school this morning in the tri valley, livermore is looking nice and cool this morning at 51 degrees, as you're walking to school, and then as they head out for recess, we'll already be in the upper 60s. 78 degrees as we get closer to that last school bell reading. as you head out and getting ready for the day, getting your hair styled, flat iron will be all you need today. you'll have a good hair day even though the humidity is at 74%. it drops as our temperatures go up. look how warm it is today, summer-like weather the second day of november and up to 85 today in livermore, 84 in napa and san francisco reaching 70 degrees, and not only do we have the very warm weather, we also will have a high fire danger picking up tonight as the winds increase, especially for the east bay and north bay hills.

elevations above 1,000 feet, it is just so critically dry, and the humidity will be going down to anywhere from 8% to 18% in some spots, and the winds could gust up to 60 miles per hour. we have to be really careful during this time because any small sparks or fires could spread rapidly, especially as we look at our wind forecast, and seeing those winds at 8:30 tonight. still light, but picking up during the overnight hours, especially for parts of the central valley, and then headed into the north bay hills. sustained winds will be at 22 miles per hour later on tonight, and then we are going to see still some very warm weather. we set our clock back one hour on sunday morning, or saturday night before you go to sleep, and still some highs in the low 80s for the next several days. now mike, you're tracking the changes over the last few minutes. >> we've had some dramatic changes, because kari, and folks, we remember this is friday, with the lighter volume of traffic at 6:19, yes, even at 6:19 most of our sensors are green or yellow, that's not bad

at all. when we have a crash like the one over in fremont that had the big backup from auto mall parkway when it clears, only takes ten minutes to see a complete recovery headed up past stevenson. you'll find activity on the shoulder slow for that. make su typical pattern there in union city and cocoa county highway 4 and the build for south 6808 toward the withingk with interchange, gentle. again, it's friday. good recovery west 80, san pablo down past buchanan and down toward university. we're having traffic smooth out to a normal pattern after the crash at buchanan. not bad for the east shore freeway after that. all the folks headed to the bay bridge, the metering lights are on but lighter for the cash lanes. did you feel it in the south bay at all? we're following breaking news this morning, there's been some early morning earthquakes in the salinas area. in fact, there's been four over

count county. south 880 a little slow through hayward. the build across the san mateo bridge as well, there you see more tail lights but no brake lights, so we have still a smooth flow. back to you. >> thank you very much. we continue with the breaking news that we're following, a swarm of earthquakes this morning in the salinas area in san benito county. here you look at the seismograph, the largest so far was that 4.0 that they had there, striking at about 5:58, and another one was a 3.8. over the next several minutes, four more quakes followed, as i told you, it was a total of five. the last one just minutes ago. this ran along the san andreas fault, runs up and down california, including san jose and the peninsula. i sent out a tweet after to see if there was activity in the south bay. the only one that was really reported was over in the carmel area, so it sounds like it kind of went south that way instead

of north. in regards to feeling it, we don't have any reports of damage so far this morning, but of course, we'll still continue to check, because this is the swarm of earthquakes, really in a short amount of time. >> certainly. 6:33 for you right now. now to this picture making headlines across the{s:c}i this morning, showing the nfl cheerleader there taking a knee during the national anthem. >> it happened last night at levi stadium right before the raiders/49ers game. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell is live outside of levi with the story a lot of people are talking about, including some problems at last night's game, bob. >> reporter: marcus and law camera, the 49ers organization has not identified this cheerleader or commented on what she did, but our own damien trujillo and one other fan of the game snapped this photo of her and posted it on twitter where it has gone viral. you can see her taking a knee during the national anthem while the rest of other colleagues stand.

according to "the merkley news" this is at least the second time 49ers cheerleaders have knelt during the anthem. the paper reports that two members of the gold rush squad knelt here at levi's during a christmas eve game last year against jacksonville to join in the protest against police brutality and racial inequality that former 49ers quarterback colin kaepernick started during the 2016 season. last week nfl cheerleaders asked why they hadn't been taking a knee, their response, lack of support and the fear of losing their position on their respective squads. as you can imagine, the response on social media to this cheerleader's protest last night has ranged from praise to anger. there was some anger in the stands last night's game, niners and raiders fans duking it out during a pretty big brawl in the stands. no injuries.

we have brand new numbers from the santa clara police department. there are at least 21 people arrested, 20 for drunk in public, one a parole violation. >> it would be unreasonable to expect 70,000 people to get together and not to be a single rest. arrest. >> reporter: you might recall we are standing outside levi stadium 24 hours ago reporting the santa clara police department would be adding extra officers to last night's game because of the intense rivalry between the niners and the raiders and what was their final battle of the bay. reporting live here in santa clara, outside levi stadium, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you. it 6:35. the man accused of sending a pipe bomb to leading democrats and cnn is due in court for a bail hearing. prosecutors are asking for him to be held without bail given the seriousness of the charges. today a call for unity on

the first sabbath after last weekend's deadly mass shooting at a synagogue in pittsburgh. kira klapper is here bringing us more. >> they consider last saturday's shooting the worst in u.s. history. 11 people were killed when a gunman opened fire at the tree of life synagogue. this afternoon the eldest victim will be laid to rest. rose malling ear's life was cut short at 97 years old. rose retained her sharp wit, humor and intelligence until the very last day. family was everything for her, three children, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild. she still cooked family meals for high holidays and regularly attended the tree of life with her daughter, who was there with

the big rig driver was not hurt. 6:45, we just told you about the quakes hitting south of salinas. new for you this morning the mysterious slow-moving mud spring in southern california has some neighbors wondering if it's the first sign of the big one. the "l.a. times" reporting that the spring first popped up from a geyser near the salten sea where the san andreas fault originates. in recent months, it's been expanding 20 yards a day. the usgs scientists tell "the times" there's nothing to fear. the mud is slet thinthreatening railroad tracks, they say there's no spike in seismic activities. a group in oakland is taking donations to try to help those migrants involved, the latin collective in downtown oakland is collecting water, food and clothing. the group plans to send the

the screen. morgan hill is chilly, dropping down to 49 degrees right around sunrise, and then a quick warmup will be under way. at noon, nice 73 degrees and upper 70s by early afternoon, and then let's get the kids up and out the door in school in antioch this morning, it will be in the low 50s, as you're going through that drop-off line or walking to school, and then we're looking at low 70s as they head out for lunch and recess and the last part of the day we'll see temperatures feeling much more comfortable. look at how warm it's going to be, antioch reaching 84 degrees and also 84 in napa and santa rosa. san francisco reaching 70 degrees. san jose now the record is 85. we'll be up to at least 83 degrees today, near record high temperatures, and also some very chilly mornings to start. so we are going to still need a jacket, as you get ready to head out the door. under that, a sleeveless shirt is going to be all kinds of weather today. you have to be prepared, but also be prepared that there may

be some quickly spreading fires. we have to be careful with sparks or small flames in the hills. red flag warning goes up as winds increase and we may have some gusts 50 to 60 miles per hour in the hills above 1,000 feet, and the humidity will be low, dropping down to the single digits in parts of the bay area. the red flag warning means we need to be careful and setting our clocks back one hour on sunday morning. very dry conditions and warm weather continues through next week. mike, now you're tracking a crash in san jose? >> i was, until just a couple seconds ago, did an update and i see this is not an issue anymore. northbound 101 past 680 at the bottom of your screen. sensors looking great. not bad for a friday. north 87 another crash may be there around capital expressway, but it has cleared from the roadway. we see some recovery and speeds. as we move up toward the east shore freeway, no problem. better than a half hour ago, still just. a half hour from highway 4 to the backup at the bay bridge.
