avoid blame if republicans cannot hang onto control of the house. marlie? >> kelly, thank you. and when it comes to those senate battles, everything's bigger in texas. democratic rising star beto o'rourke is giving senator ted cruz a run for his money. and the hotly contested race has both sides fired up. early voting numbers have already surpassed the state's total turnout in 2014. the latest emerson college poll shows beto nipping at cruz's heels, trailing by just three points. nbc's garrett haake has the latest from texas. >> reporter: marlie, good morning. on this last full day of campaigning in the ste beto o'r ted cruz will be in houston, texas. harris county is the biggest county in the state. it's the big prize for both of these campaigns. it's been hotly contested in presidential campaigns over the years, and it's where this race will be fought out, or at least part of the battlefield, on tuesday night. we have seen the two campaigns focusing mostly on their base

voters. ted cruz trying to get out republican voters, tea party voters, folks who love donald trump in a state that went for trump by nine points. beto o'rourke, a democrat running in a red state, has run a progressive campaign. he has run as a liberal. and his theory of the case here is that his policies, his style ca hn rnpanic voters, younger voters, folks who don't reliably come to the polls on a midterm election, and folks who aren't showing up in the polling data of this state, which has consistently shown ted cruz with a lead. now, that lead has been shrinking, and the early vote numbers in texas have been extraordinary this year. more people voted early in the state of texas in 2018 than voted in entitionre an extraord amount of people, but we don't know who they're voting for yet. we know that this has been one of the most closely watched races ihe we know that it could be a very

tonight. we may wake up with power outages in states like mississippi. this is senate battleground forecast map. the battleground states are in yellow. notice mississippi and tennessee could be dealing with severe weather tomorrow night, waking up to that that tomorrow morning. and as we wake up tomorrow, those storms will roll into places like florida, so the panhandle region is especially at risk for storms. if anyone will be impacted by the weather, it would most likely be the panhandle area. about 70 degrees. a chance of showers looking for absolutely beautiful fall day. 82 in phoenix is about as beautiful as it gets and we'll continue with that nice weather this week. alkboeeather waking up and having tornadoes in the middle of the night and election day morning.

the fascinating thing to watch for here, about 40% of the population are in the lexington county, fayette county. is there going to be surge democratic turnout here? also, rural areas, is the republican interest going to be down at all? are democrats able to make inroads at all in those rural see at 6:00. then at 7:00, that's when things are going to start to intensify. you are going to have in the 00 the second, virginia beach/norfolk, that area. the fifth, that includes charlottesville. ehe venth, that's dav of washington, d.c. the tenth district right outside four republican-held seats that democrats have a shot at picking off. we're going to start getting returns at 7:00 in those. also at 7:00, look at this in florida. all sorts of competitive, potentially competitive districts in florida. we're going to start getting numbers from there as well. and i'll give you one more, georgia. so much talk about the georgia governors race. the theory of the stacey abrams campaign, expand the electorate, bring first-time voters out. we're going to start getting a readout there as well, and whether it bleeds over to key
