shooting took place. it happened roughly around 1:33 a.m. there was a call of a shooting in the area, that's the information we're getting from marin county sheriff's department. as i mentioned, three victims all together, two males and one female. one male was pronounced dead on the scene, deceased, on the scene, according to police, that we just talked to. they mentioned two others were transported, but they are still looking for a suspect in all of this, but as far as the immediate area, they believe this is safe, but they are still looking for that suspect. but it's unclear if this was a client at the detox center. i asked him that question, they're still looking to get some more information of that but of course we'll have more details on this in the next half hour. we're live here in san rafael, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> thank you. now to our other top story for you, the midterm elections now just a day away, and president trump and former president barack obama are going head to head to get out votes. >> we'll have more on that in a moment. we'll take a quick break. it's time for sleep number's veterans day sale

a.m., that's on wednesday morning. >> 5:06 for you right now. exhausted and hungry, the end of that massive migrant caravan is now in mexico city. migrants began arriving there yesterday. most of them walk or hitchhike, and they're now being hosted at a local stadium. many migrants left their home countries in central america fleeing poverty and violence. president trump there has made the caravan a big issue in the buildup to tuesday's election. there are now actually three caravans slowly moving through mexico, stretched across 300 miles. ahead of two key meetings focused on rvs in san francisco, "the examiner" obtained hard numbers on people sleeping in their vehicles. recent count found 432 vehicles being used for sleeping in san francisco. 313 were rvs. 119 more were passenger vehicles like suvs. most are being parked in one of three neighborhoods, mission, bay view, or taraval. not all are homeless. some may be trying to shorten

their commutes. >> 5:07 for you right now. new for you this morning, a story you'll only see on "today in the bay." we're home again, where one of the most powerful machines on the globe, the livermore national laboratory unveiled sierra, the world's third fastest super computer. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell joins us live outside the lab. sierra will be used for national security and to improve health. >> reporter: correct, laura and marcus, specifically to look for better treatments for cancer. think about that high-end pc desktop computer you might have at home. for perspective, it can perform 100 billion floating point operations per second. take a look at this video. this is sierra, 125 petaflop super computer that can perform 125 quadrillion floating operations per second, over a million times more powerful than your high-end pc. it takes up 7,000 square feet at

lawrence livermore lab, 240 racks of computers outfitted with ibm cpu but nvidia gpus. it's architecture that will allow scientists to model and do simulations in 3-d as opposed to 2-d. scientists are using sierra to come up with new drug therapies for treating certain types of cancers, doing research on traumatic brain injuries, earthquake simulations. eventually sierra used to identify the country's stockpile of nuclear weapons, since underground test something no longer allowed. underground testing is no longer al allowed. >> the outside world can't see theical lagss we do. the calculations that we do. they can't see the results. it's classified. they can see the hardware we site and the hardware we site sends a message to the rest of the world that we take our mission seriously and tend to

>> hey, here i am. doing magic tricks on a monday morning. here is a live look outside in palo alto, as you get ready to head out. our weather is going to be really nice today, with some mid-50s, as you get ready to head out through the 9:00 hour, we're going to be in the low 70s today, really comfortable, on your way out in pleasant hill, it's going to be a chilly start, only low 50s, but look at how fast that warmup happens, by noon, we're in the mid-70s and continuing to go up from there, so we've got a look at all of our microclimates and the highs coming up in a few minutes. mike, now you have a new crash in the east bay? >> i do. overall, things are smooth. the south bay, two trucks ran into each other, out of the roadway 237 at 101. no slowing there for the rest of this shot. it is farther north and farther east right over here, westbound highway 4 around harbor, coming into bay point out of pittsburg.

we have the crash and slowing. looks like it's blocking the fast lane. the initial report chp should get there quickly, hopefully moving quickly over the center divide. upper east shore freeway at speed to the bay bridge. we're still under 15 minutes from highway 4 to the building backup for the cash lanes and the fast track, sort of shuffling. cash lanes will start loosening up. fast track lanes are starting to build. no metering lights just yet but probably in the next seven or eight minutes over there, as is tradition. the flow on the rails as well, no problems, fully restored for the morning commute. they closed that section from bay shore north for the weekend work but that's back in service. back to you guys. >> thank you, mike. now let's get a look at the business and tech headlines. well good morning to you. i'm not quite sure where you'd like me, oh, very good, we'll do that. sounds wonderful. markets, well, sure we can start with that. iran, let's talk about iran. today is the day that iran will

suffer some of these sanctions that we promised. president trump saying those will take effect today. now, the issue is going to be how will our allies and china and russia respond? remember, china and russia were not part of this idea to get rid of the iranian sanctions. so we'll see what happens there. let's talk about some of the other news that is going on this morning. we have the new sanctions on iran, again, that happens come today. otherwise, what else we've got here in our screen. i believe amazon is one of the things we'd like to talk about. amazon says it's going to remove the shipping charge for anything, any price over the holiday shopping season. amazon used to charge or make you spend $25 before you got free shipping. prime users of course get free shipping all the time. just a few weeks after opening its amazon go store in san francisco, amazon is set to open another store this time in the

for the decline at the pump. new for you this morning, if you think it's too early to trim the tree, think again. one study says putting up holiday decorations early can make you happier, according to "the journal of environmental psychology," decorations could bring up happy childhood memories. i guess it can, yes, and putting them up sooner rather than later could help boost your mood. another perk, putting those decorations up according to the study is the decorations may make you seem friendlier. >> okay. >> that's whey tat i try to tele homeowners association. >> they said don't leave them up. >> my trash cans make me feel happier. >> get rid of the pumpkins. i did that yesterday. why are these still out here on the porch in the yard. >> wow! >> i threw the pumpkins way yesterday. today if you're putting up the

christmas decorations, it's going to be nice. >> it's too early. >> we're enjoying nice weather. live look outside in san francisco, no fog, as we get a look at that view headed toward the north bay as well. then our temperatures are in the mid-50s right now. look at napa, starts at 44 degrees, and then san jose at 50 degrees. seven-day forecast is already up at the bottom of the screen, as we start out looking at our morning commute for morgan hill, there our temperatures will be in the low 50s, another cool morning, but this is a very typical especially when it's so dry out si d dryoutside. you'll want to take the lunch outside as we head over to the tri valley for your school day forecast, as you are getting the kids to school, it will be nice and bright out there, walking this morning to school, but still very chilly, some upper 40s. as you pick them up a comfortable upper 70s there. as you get ready this morning, it's going to be a dry day,

smooth conditions out there, as you style your hair this morning, and then we're going to see those highs in the south bay reaching up to 75 degrees. 72 in palo alto and oakland 70 degrees. upper 70s for inland valley, up to 79 in antioch, and as you make plans to head out on election day, it's another cool morning for tomorrow as we'll see upper 40s for the inland areas. the bay at about 52 and we see the bay temperatures staying mostly in the 60s while the inland valleys reach into the upper 70s so still very nice. high pressure is just off to the west of us, and around that with its clockwise flow, we're getting a northerly wind, and a northerly wind makes it really dry, and it's also blocking any rain chances from coming into the bay area. so we're going to see that pattern continuing, as we go through the middle of the month, there may be a change in this pattern that will bring some rain close by, but still doesn't look like it will rain here in the bay area, but of course, i'll be watching that, as we go

into the next week or so, and then we're still looking at some very dry weather, highs in the upper 70s, but very pleasant all week long. morning temperatures in the upper 40s. san francisco upper 60s all week, with mostly sunny skies. as we head over to mike, you've been tracking a few issues especially for the east bay. >> that's right, kari. we had a couple crashes and the closure. most of those have cleared up. for the most part, green sensors as you would expect 5:19. take you over to highway 4, still tracking this crash out of antioch, in through pittsburg. we see slowing but we've gone from red to a little bit longer stretch, but it's orange. that means the speeds are better. i do believe that they've cleared the crash over to the shoulder, or at least the center divide at harbor, west highway 4 moves more smoothly, throwing through pittsburgh. bay point and concord and the rest of cocoa county looks great. 680 south through khanville in toward san ramon no problems, a light drive off the walnut creek interchange. here is your travel times, 14 minutes. under 15 from highway 4 to the bay bridge but the toll plaza we

are starting to see all the lanes back up. we don't have the metering lights just yet but it is jamming up on the incline toward san francisco. expect those metering lights in the next minute or two. over here the peninsula, we have not seen the crowd build yet because it's too early for that. palo alto 101 an easy drive as well as up in toward san francisco and down south for 101 through raph an eanovato an eas. coming up, new details about an infant turned over to hotel workers at a world disney resort. san francisco is getting new police officers, and they have a particular task that the department says that is a major need of patrolling. we'll tell you what that's call about coming up. and on "ellen" today, blake shelton is talking about giving up that "sexiest man alive" title as his reign comes to an end. >> do you feel the sex waning from you? >> i feel like, i feel like sexy

mayor brent taylor, happening tonight, the remains of the north ogden utah mayor brent taylor will arrive at dover air force base. >> taylor was a major in utah's army national guard. he was killed while serving in afghanistan in an insider attack. taylor took one year leave of absence from his job as mayor when he was deployed and actually expected to return in january. he was just 39 years old. he leaves behind a wife and seven children. funeral plans have not yet been announced. new for you this morning, mystery solved at a disney hotel in florida. woman handed over a newborn baby to a worker early yesterday morning at disney's animal kingdom lodge saying that someone handed her the baby.

authorities later realized that woman was actually the baby's mother. that baby is said to be in good health. authorities eventually tracked down the mother. she is now being evaluated and receiving treatment. it is 5:25 right now. san francisco getting much needed help for dealing with the city's traffic problems. for the first time in three years, the san francisco police department expected to add more traffic officers. "the examiner" reports the department started a motorcycle training class with 16 new trainees. the class is required for any officer to join the city's traffic division. fewer traffic officers have affected the department's ability to crack down on dangerous, illegal driving. today "the voice" judge blake shelton stops by "ellen." >> he's opening up about his reign as "people" magazine's sexiest man alive and talks about his relationship with pop star gwen stefani. >> it's hard to have that title but because you know, there's a lot of expectation. did gwen suddenly expect more from you?

we go to willow glen. temperatures in the low 50s this morning. normally up to 68 degrees for early november. we'll be in the low 70s already by 1:00 today as temperatures continue to go up. but as we get a look at our forecast for san ramon, as you get ready to head out for a run this morning, you'll do that around 6:30 with the sunrise, in the mid-40s so bundle up and we're looking at 70s throughout the early afternoon hours. as we head over to mike, you were saying that laura was correct about something? >> she was. that's not breaking news. laura is often correct, almost always, but she will tell you when she is mistaken. over here there was no mistake in the backup here at the bay bridge toll plaza. the metering lights were on, as laura said. you can see the backup forming off the 880 overcrossing. the slowing on the span that has cleared up because folks are head up back here now, what the metering lights are for, to keep that bridge span moving smoothly. the rest of the east bay, cocoa county for the most part moving well. west on highway 4 at harbor we

area. kris? >> reporter: hi there. elections officers are in full press mode right now. they want to make sure that however you cast your ballot, your vote is counted. we want to start first in alameda county, where we are here this morning. if you are a vote by mail voter and like to drop off your ballot rather than mail it in, it can be counted early, there are 25 different drop box locations around your county, from albany in the north, fremont to the south, livermore to the west. over to contra costa county, you voters there don't have to get out of your car. several thousand voters got their ballots in and their "i voted" stickers on. they're in a drive-through location this june. you can drive through the elections office in martinez today and tomorrow, and there will be a drive-through location in rossmore tomorrow on election day as well. san mateo county voters, by now you probably know that your voting centers are replacing your traditional polling places, and in fact, they open 29 days before the election for early

a.m. on wednesday. >> 5:36 right now. happening today, a palo alto woman accused of sex crimes against a minor is due in court. prosecutors say that don giannini committed crimes over a year period with a victim when they were just 14 years old. the victim is now in high school. authorities were apparently tipped off by a fellow student who noticed the victim in elicit videos posted online. giannini is a substitute teacher in elementary school but investigators do not believe she victimized her students. she is expected to enter a plea. this morning an amber alert remains in effect for a san jose brother and sister allegedly abducted about i their mother who does not have custody. police say the mother and the two children met at san jose's emma prush park friday with child protective services worker supervising. the social worker took the 11-year-old daughter to the bathroom and came out to find the mother and 1-year-old

welcome back. the time is 5:43. we're still about 50 minutes from sunrise right now but we're starting to see a little light in the sky this morning, as we check out san jose, headed to south san jose to santa teresa. low 50s to start and warming up into the low 70s by 1:00. we'll look at all of our microclimates and the week forecast coming up in less than five minutes.

and 26 minutes from grant line road to the dublin interchange. you have a slower drive just developing for the tri valley, right about on schedule here. the south bay of course is still clear northbound but we're seeing more traffic build. 5:44, and now to a horrific crash in contra costa county, this happened after a violent chain of events. the chp is saying that driver crashed into a motorcycle near discovery bay yesterday afternoon, fled the scene, and then crashed head-on into another car 500 feet away. the motorcyclist and everyone inside that second car suffered major injuries. the 33-year-old driver accused of causing both of those crashes has only minor injuries, but she has been arrested on suspicion of felony dui. the highway was shut down for a time in both directions during that investigation. a second busy night for firefighters in santa cruz county, battling a fire that left one alternate bay area commute route clouze closed.

the rincon fire burned 17 acres with 30% containment, burning near highway 9 and rincon crossing northeast of uc santa cruz. cal fire says steep terrain is making this a very tough fire fight, and people who live nearby say they feel the effects from the smoke. >> when i got down to bulger creek, the smoke, because i had my windows open was so bad, my eyes started to water and it kept getting worse. >> as of last night, authorities said highway 9 would remain closed at least threw the overnight hours. the plan could be a solution to a troubling problem, a rise in sexual assaults in santa clara county has led to the addition of a second clinic at stanford hospital. currently there's only one clinic operating where victims can have a rape kit administered, and it's miles away at valley medical center in san jose. supporters of the new clinic say someone has just endured a sexual assault should not have

states military. we're not playing games, folks. because you look at what's marching up, that's an invasion. that's an invasion. >> what the president has not said much about by comparison is the incredibly strong economy. on friday, we saw some of the best job numbers in decades and it's a credit to the white house that they're willing to take. the president has also been criticized for a campaign ad that's not only factually incorrect, it comes across to many as racist. now, cnn has refused to run that ad. in fact, generally speaking, news agencies don't play the full thing when talking about it on the news, because of its content. but nbc did air a shorter version of the ad last night during the green bay/new england football game. nbc is our parent company. we had nothing to do with the decision. nbc has not commented as to why th chose do that. debra messing took to twitter

7:00, and then starting to warm up as we go throughout the morning. we'll be at 76 degrees at 1:00 today, and as you look at the bottom of the screen, the seven-day forecast is already up, as you make your way out the door. maybe you're on your way to the fruitvale b.a.r.t. station, a chilly morning once again and feeling very nice as we go into the afternoon. lot of sunshine in this forecast, with our south bay high of los gatos reaching 76 degrees. we'll be at 78, up to 78 in east san jose, and concord reaching 78 degrees. 74 in hayward, and the peninsula looking at a lot of 70s there, redwood city 73 and some upper 60s, still that gusty westerly wind picking up for san francisco while the north bay reaches up to 78 degrees. so we are starting to see the sunrise this morning, as you are getting dressed. you can see that coming through the window. make sure you have the sunglasses today, and some light long sleeves will be comfortable as we enjoy a cooldown compared to the weekend and we still have the dry northerly wind coming

in, as high pressure stays well to the west of us, and it still will be very dry. no rain chances here, but we will see a change in the pattern going into the middle of the month, that may bring some rain close by, but still doesn't look like it will rain here in the bay area. i'll of course continue to monitor that. and then we're looking at 70s all week long for our inland valleys and morning temperatures dropping back into the upper 40s. san francisco a lot of 60s here in this forecast this week. mike, you're tracking a crash on i-80? >> yes, it's in the north bay, but coming down to the carquinez bridge. concern because that's where we see the focus of traffic now anyway, right at the top of your screen. sorry i didn't move it down more, westbound 80 coming down in your commute direction at highway 37. it looks like everything just got moved to the shoulder in the last couple minutes and i see the speed sensors improving, headed toward the carquinez bridge, but that may be because folks were held up by the crash and the distrax so it's easier for west 80 aetching prothe

free shipping. amazon's offer starts today and target dropped its minimum order requirement last week. new hope this morning for alzheimer's patients and of course, the people who love them. doctors at west virginia university say they're working on a promising new therapy. patient wears a helmet that delivers ultrasound waves to the brain. patients also get an injection of so-called microbubbles, which open up what they call the blood brain barrier. >> the goal is to allow the plaques hopefully to be reduced and allow the clinical symptoms of alzheimer's to be improved as well. we want to be also realistic. this is an investigational study and we need to conduct the research study, but so far, so good. >> the treatment is still in clinical trial. now to a brand new story from our investigative unit. there is a multibillion-dollar underground black market which

federal agents compare to the drug trade. >> it is the smuggling and selling ofexotic animals as pets. it's happening all across california. >> we spent the last few months behind the scenes of this black market, where exotic species are traded and smuggled through our borders nearly every day. we also visited sanctuaries where many of these exotic pets end up when they become too hard and too dangerous to handle in people's back yards, that is, if the owners don't kill the animals first. one sanctuary showed us dozens of tigers rescued from people's back yards and roadside zoos. they and about a dozen other facilities like them are full, with no room to take any more rescued animals. >> people can't believe what a big problem it is. i mean, there are thousands and thousands, you know, like 7,000 tigers in people's back yards in the united states, and there are
