california. jean kelly has more. >> reporter: gavin newsom supporters give a rowdy welcome. he stepped on the stage with high-profile supporters, senator harris and governor brown. urging the crowd to vote democrat to change the balance of power nationally and locally. newsom says he wants to make the california dream possible for everyone. he will focus on housing, health care, and affordability. >> the issue that defines this moment is our capacity to address the issue of income inequality and wealth inequality in our society. >>epalth is onor affordable houe state level is extremely, extremely important and having someone in the governor's chair in the housing industry would be a huge asset. >> reporter: he said helping people get off the street and

into more productive lives will be a top priority. >> obviously a major segment of this homeless population are people who have been priced out of their homes. let me tell you, day one, i'm going to start working on that. >> reporter: voter also decide which candidate will land in the governor's office. jean elliott, "today in the bay." also today, voters will be faced with making decisions on several ballot measures that include proposition 2, homelessness prevention. if passed, the measure would allow the state to use funds from county mental health programs to fund the approval of the proposal would not increase state taxes. several homeless advocates, social workers, doctors and emergency responders are urging voters to say yes. those against it say it makes no sense to take money away from mental health services to build homes. also on the ballot, proposition 8 if passed would cap profits at kidney dialysis clinics by using a formula and also require clinics to pay rebates to certain parties, primarily insurance companies that pay for dialysis treatment. if you have any problems

remains closed in santa cruz county. the rincon fire has burned about 20 acres. last night, it was 45% contained, the fire is burning northeast of uc santa cruz. new for you this morning, a first for muni, the agency is appointing a woman as the new acting director of transit. julie kearst baum will oversee a staff of nearly 6,000. she joined the agency in 2017 and has more than 20 years experience in transportation. that announcement comes following the retirement of the outgoing director of transit, john hayley, who is beingexua h former assistant. coming up on "today in the bay," the amc movie pass will soon cost you more. the reason behind the price hike in california, for the moviegoers, they have to pay up. how does turkey stuffing and

but mid-60s for the marina district. north bay reaching up to 81 in ukiah, and novato up to 79 degrees, very warm weather for later today, but it is a chilly start, so whatever you need to keep you warm, like a hat or maybe a scarf, or a warm jacket, and then later today, short sleeves. you have to be ready for it all. we will have a wide range in temperatures, as you head out to vote this morning, it's only going to be in the upper 40s for the inland areas. the bay in the low 50s, and then at noon feeling nice all aless kro the b -- across the mid-60s, and upper 70s for a lot of spots. we have some very warm weather and a dry offshore wind flow. as we go into the same. in fact, we may have a high fire danger because of the gusty winds blowing offshore and very dry conditions. as we go into next week, high pressure moves right over us. we keep that storm track farther

to the north and we were hoping the rain would get a little bit closer but still looks like it stays way and it's been a long time since we've had some rain. we're looking at highs staying in the upper 70s the next few days and for san francisco still looking at upper 60s throughout the rest of the week. heading over to mike, you've got room for commuters. >> a lot of elbow room out e.ot of roadways to cover. we're showing you the south bay peninsula, no problems, of course this time of little build here behind me. the altamont area, you're still in the orange though, and speeds are e-pehour range at the worst, coming out of the altamont pass. even at the merge, 205 and 580 a smooth flow of traffic. 84 we have that construction zone, and we see the slowing there. overnight just slow for the cones, wherever you find it but no closures. the dublin interchange moves nicely. cocoa county an easy drive in through the maze and the bay bridge. the upper east shore freeway, less than 15 minutes, this is the best we typically see any
