breaking news. 13 people are dead, including a sheriff's deputy and a gunman. up to 12 people are injured. this all unfolding around 11:20 last night when a suspect open fire inside of a crowded bar in thousand oaks, california. police say several hundred people were inside that venue at the time. witnesses say they heard gunshots and then heard smoke bombs go off. >> i saw shots go off and we just got down. i don't even -- it was such a blur. >> he was shooting everything. >> all i remember was standing there with my friend and i heard the shots. i don't know befy looked over before because we happened to be facing kind of near there by the dance floor a little bit. i don't -- i don't want to say. i don't know for sure. i'm pretty sure i saw him. i'll never get that picture out of my head. >> borderline bar & grill is a western theme establishment,

known for regularly hosting swing dancing nights. the venue was hosting a college country night when that shooting occurred. if you're not aware of where thousand oaks is, here's a look at the location on our map. that city is located about 40 miles west of los angeles. thousand oaks was recently ranked one of the country's safest cities. right now we want to go to our sister station knbc as they're covering the story right now. >>y moorpark college, from pepperdine and channel islands. we know that's the fbi, chp, joint terrorism task force at the scene right now. >> okay. looks like we're having a little problem there. again, we are covering that breaking news. just a sat story to tell you about. 13 people killed inside of a bar. this is in thousand oaks. this is just west of los angeles there, about 40 miles.

as you can see right here, this is video of the scene there as those gunmen were approaching the scene. just horrific there. we do know a sheriff's deputy was shot as well as that gunman. several people are also injured in this shooting. we heard witnesses talk about the instances of being inside there. as you can imagine, this was a horrific scene to deal with this yet again in our country, another mass shooting inside a nightclub. the nightclub there is a country-themed nightclub. they host different swing dancing events. according to the instagram page there of the bar, which is called borderline bar & grill, they were actually hosting a college night for those college students in nearby areas to come out and just enjoy themselves. again, you're looking at footage of that mass shooting. this is in thousand oaks, california, at a bar there where 13 people are dead after a mass

shooter open fire there. we can tell you the deputy that first responded is dead as well as that shooter. 13 people shot there. just horrific. in the last two weeks we've been dealing with something like this. we'll continue to follow this. right now we want to go to meteorologist kari hall as she tracks the weather in our area. >> we're starting out with red flag warning and microclimate alert because we'll have a high fire danger from this morning through tomorrow morning. the red flag warning means elevations above 1,000 feet will have the potential of seeing any sparks or flames spread rapidly because the winds will be picking up. it's for all these areas shaded in red. the update from yesterday evening will be the santa cruz mountains is now included in that red flag warning. humidity is very low this morning as we start out in some spots down to the teens in napa. most of us are seeing those

rain -- the relative humidity totals varied across the bay area. as we go throughout the day, our relative humidity will continue to drop as we go into the afternoon, it will be down to 8% to 9% in part of the north bay. that's the low humidity along with the gusty winds will be the reason why we have to be really careful with any sparks or flames. here's a look at our current wind speeds at 29 miles per hour. these are sustained winds in fairfield. there will be some higher gusts. that's something we'll have to monitor as we go throughout the day with high fire danger in some of our inland hills as well as some very low humidity. we'll talk about still the warm weather that continues across the bay area coming up in a few minutes. mike, how is it looking out there early on the roads? >> we'll start with a live look at the golden gate bridge. surprisingly, a light volume of traffic. haven't even got the center divide moved for that morning

commute. clear view. you can see both towers. this is a crystal clear view but north of there. because of that light traffic, because this right now is not causing a major slow down. this crash blocking half of northbound 101. your two right lanes are blocked. this will be an issue traveling north of tiburon and up through marin county. this crash leaves some debris in lanes so we're not quite clear on how long it will take to clear this up. it's been there for at least half an hour. we haven't seen slowing north heading away from are the golden gate bridge. that typically counters any commute. right now it's too slow. a little crash has moved over to the shoulder in walnut creek. another hot spot. this is your commute through con cord in toward lafayette. that will be an area later we'll be concerned with, but right now light traffic and out of the

ring, willing for there to be a text message. so often you just see them walk away. you know, their eyes are glazed over. they have a place to go here now. these are going to be absolutely tedious. and what do you do in the minutes and the hours to wait, to hear anything, and to wonder if your child or the person that you were expecting home at midnight is instead inside of that club or in a hospital somewhere and can't get to you. the sheriff's department has told everyone that has come, just because you have not heard of them is not bad news. it does mean in the panic to get out, the possibility that people could have just dropped their phones, dropped their phones to help other people, dropped their phones, as you heard, to take chairs to break windows. just to go and to get out, to get themselves away from a barrage of gunfire.

that's what these parents are hoping for. . is just one more heartbreaking story of a father whose son, who has ambitions and dreams of joining the military, joined by his father, a loving and strict christian family in the area gets a worst parent's nightmare, a knock on the door, saying his friends, we managed to get out but we fear cody did not. >> we're watching robert with the live video from your camera, so many embraces and hugs. that's what these parents need right now is some support, some prayer, some hugs because every minute that goes by is probably the longest minute they're ever going to live not knowing if their child made it out or not. their lives have forever changed just living this experience, i think. and i see red cross is is there. do you know if there are any counselors or any -- anybody out

there at this -- you know, this is still developing, i know, but, you know, maybe they can get some people out there. there are already some people out there to help these family members, you know, with even a little prayer or a hug as we're seeing them embrace as they wait for this news. >> you know, and that's an excellent point. when the ventura county sheriff's department decided, you know what, we need to set up a reunification center. initially they told us there wasn't going to be one, but they decided that's what they needed to do, they went -- excuse me for one second. would you grab that young lady. how are you, my dear? have you heard -- i'm sorry. i'm going to flip up here. if you have to go, i'll let you cut me off. yes, there are chaplains inside. the reason they delayed opening this is because they had to get the chaplains and the red cross -- >> as you're hearing there from our sister station knbc as they're talking about the heartache of many loved ones just waiting to find out if

night inside a crowded bar in thousand oaks. that's in ventura county, 40 miles west of los angeles. several hundred people were inside that venue at the time. witnesses say they heard gunshots. they saw smoke bombs going off. so far there's been no positive identification of the gunman, but it has been confirmed that he has died. we'll continue to follow this story but at 4:18 we'll take a look at what's going on here in the bay area with our traffic and weather. kari, starting off another cool morning. >> it's going to be cool but windy, especially for the hills. that's the reason we have a high fire danger and red flag warning in effect for all of these areas shaded in red and also includes the santa cruz mountains. we've been watching the rencon fire and getting containment on that. winds may gust 50 to 60 miles an

hour. as far as our current relative humidity, it's down to about 18% in napa. most of us are seeing slightly elevated humidity, which is very typical for those early hours. as we go throughout the day, humidity drops. winds will stay gusty. as we go into the afternoon, most of our wind speeds at about 15 to 20 miles per hour, but a little higher in parts of the north bay where we'll see that red flag warning continue and sustained winds may reach 30 to possibly 35 miles per hour with some higher gusts. as you step out the door, it's still going to be another chilly morning. in dublin and some of our wind-sheltered valleys, it's not going to be as windy and those temperatures will be cooling off. we'll be down to about 49 degrees at 7:00. at 10:00 we're at 63 degrees, warming up into the mid-60s. our south bay highs will be back in the upper 70s and low 80s. very much like yesterday. a few low 80s for parts of the

east bay. danville reaching 82. 76 in san mateo. for san francisco, a little warmer with the mission district reaching 75 and some upper 70s for santa rosa today. as you're getting dressed, you do need something that will keep you nice and warm for the early morning hours. maybe a sweater and some jeans would also be comfortable today. as we look at the satellite, all dry and no clouds here in the bay area. but it just stays breezy and our temperatures will be in the upper 70s to low 80s for the inland areas. on veterans' day, very nice with mid-70s inland and san francisco in the upper 60s. more upper 60s and we continue on with the chilly mornings over the next seven days. mike, you have a new crash reported in berkeley? >> i do. i was going to say it wasn't a problem but we look at the east shore freeway, we see flashing lights. we've seen traffic lights and weaving back and forth. they stop just south of

university. looks like they are getting that car over to the right shoulder. that's what's going on getting away from the bay bridge. a locator, golden gate field and those people coming off the bridge from san rafael in toward richmond, so that's right in this area. there's another incident, but i think this is marking the map, going away from the bay bridge. green sensors all over showing you how light the traffic is. the crash still on the shoulder for west 24. over there on the other side of the screen opposite me, we're looking at northbound 101. two lanes are still blocked by a crash. mostly it's debris that's an issue. traveling north just past 131, that's blysdale avenue. we'll send it back to you. >> thank you very much. 4:21. we're on early this morning because we're covering breaking news. that tragedy overnight. a deadly mass shooting at a southern california nightclub. happened about 11:25 last night at a bar in thousand oaks in

ventura county. >> we know at least 13 people are dead, including the shooter and a sheriff's deputy. our sister station knbc has more from the scene. >> reporter: it's not a good morning in thousand oaks. there are people wrapped in blanket, faces drenched in tears. they're standing near us about a block from the nightclub. it's the borderline bar & grill, a country western bar, enjoying the wednesday ritual, college night, a popular gathering for college students here from moorpark college, cal lutheran, among other schools in the evening. students we spoke with describe a terrifying scene. >> all i saw was once the shots rang out and we were heading under the stools. >> i'm pretty sure i saw him. i'll never get that picture out of my head. we dropped and we heard the gunshots. a lot of gunshots. a lot of gunshots. i don't even -- a lot. and i was just laying there.

>> reporter: so many questions yet to be answered, who this person was, why he fired on this crowd. a dimly lit nightclub on this wednesday night. gun the gunman has been confirmed dead. a deputy was injured. he responded to shots fired and was among the best to take bullets, is our understanding, in the hospital right now. 11 people have been injured but their status is unconfirmed. the deputy is the only one in surgery right now. it's an active scene, sad faces. not at all the way they thought college night would end in thousand oaks. >> so tragic to hear. we'll continue to follow the developing story that's happening. breaking news in southern california and thousand oaks. 13 people including the gunman now dead. we turn back to that b
