u.p.s. of the truck, this is truck and all the packages spilled out and burst through that's one part of the cleanup on its side. the two trailers there attached to that tractor trailer, they're blocking the slow lane as well as on the shoulder. there's some fluid that's also on the roadway, and that may extend the closure. i hope there were no holiday gifts or supplies getting to the north bay. we'll check on that. bob redell should be on the scene shortly. we will show you the slowdown boast direction 101. northbound the crash, from rail january road up to the brake check area. southbound side distracted as the cqatadi and san rafael. across the golden gate bridge it's pleasant. we have a crash in cocoa county on 242 over on the shoulder and is a concern over at the teo high-rise, because look at that slow drive. use the dumbarton bridge right now. back to you. >> all right, mike. concern developing the camp fire burning out of control in butte county. it is now the deadliest fire in

the state's history claiming 48 lives. dozens are still missing. flames have charred 130,000 acres. the fire itself is the size of san jose and nearly all of palo alto combined. it is just 35% contained. >> "today in the bay's" pete suratos joins us live from paradise, and pete, some high-profile officials on the local and federal levels will be in town to assess some of the wildfire damage. >> reporter: yes, good morning to you, laura and marcus. we're going to see california governor jr.ry brown and u.s. secretary of interior ryan zinken butte county at some point thi by this delyamp fire. you mentioned the statistics we have so far on it, we're an far. maybe this was a business in the area, but it is simply rubble you see the damage left behind. following the camp fire. zinke actually a u.s. secretary of interior, ryan zinke canceled an asian trip, a trip to asia,

excuse me, to come here to northern california to survey this damage, and this comes on the heels of california securing a presidential major disaster declaration to help with recovery efforts throughout all of california, which is dealing with these wildfires. as top officials come to town in butte county, you have search and rescue teams fo more than 200 people that are still missing. >> i want you to understand we'll do everything we possibly can to diligently search for the remains, but this is a very difficult task. >> reporter: unfortunately, during these fires, we do see looting taking place and that's taking place once again near the fire area here in butte county. the people that you're seeing on your television screen are ac area, and they could face weapons, drugs and possible stolen property charges, but back here to paradise, the first responders are doing great work

here on the front lines. we'll have more on their stories in the next half hour. live in paradise, pete suratos for "today in the bay." meanwhile in southern california there, three fires burning right now. overnight, a new brush fire broke out in san bernardino county. it's being called the sierra fire and it's currently at 20 acres. 80 miles west, the woolsey fire is burning more than 97,000 acres and is 40% contained. two people, sadly, have died in that fire. the hill fire is also burning nearby. it is 4,500 acres right now and 92% contained. happening today, in washington, some key lawmakers both veteran and freshmen will vote today on party leadehiros. all eyes are on san francisco congressman nancy joi us live washington with what is happening today. good morning, tracie. >> hey, laura. pelosi is

to shine light on a growing issue, homelessness among students. over 13% of students have been forced to live on the streets in the last year. according to the sjsu homeless alliance, out of 33,000 students, this means 4,300 are impacted by the issue. the group is now calling on the university's president to take action. they're requesting the college add more beds to dorms for students to stay at no cost and add more safe parking lots. next two decades or so, but a boom in stanford's population consider stanford's expansion and asking for four acres for the elementary school. this is construction area and annual payments to an education fund. right now at 6:09 on your wednesday morning, your microclimate weather alert continues because of the poor air quality. here is a live look outside as you get ready to headut toward

willow glen. it's another chilly start at 41 degrees at 8:00 and still some hazy sunshine, and reaching into the upper 60s, which is slightly above normal. as you get out the door and head to school, we look at our martinez forecast, going to be even colderrees b look at how f those temperatures go up, about ten degrees every couple of hours. it's going to be a nice and mild day. we'll talk about all of our happening the north bay as well as some of the slower spots bridge. >> that's right. we are tracking the traffic alert in qatadi but not as much of an issue for the bulk of the commute. san mateo bridge eastbound moves smoothly but westbound is jammed along the flat section. on the high-rise reports of a crash and folks involved in the crash, no major injuries but out of their cars taking pictures. hopefully a crew can help them move the car from the roadway.

weather pattern. high pressure has been here since early october, but a dip in the jet stream, this is the flow of those upper level winds that carry storm systems into the bay area. it's going to be right over us by the middle of the week, so we are going to see some improvement in our weather. finally a chance of rain late tuesday into wednesday, into thanksgiving, but in the near term it's still going to be in the upper 60s, and l mike, you're going to give us another look at that crash scene? >> that's right, ofhe overturn double trailer up in the north bay. cotati, we areol traffic a all the packages spilled out of the trailers for tu.p.s. truck. there's fluid on the road. i'm not sure if that's a hazmat situation. the soil, it may have leaked over there. we're waiting for more updates on the scene. all of that has to be cleaned up as they right the rig. we show you traffic is flowing northbound. we see slowing around the brake

check area north of railroad avenue, that's counter commute but the southbound side is distracted as well. it's not the biggest impact to your commute. the bay bridge has a big impact right there coming out of the maze. the upper east shore freeway did see someam road. it's clearing now. there may be one piece of equipment that had to move from overnight roadwork. contra costa slows through highway 4, the crash 242 should. the san mateo bridge slow drive toward the high-rise westbound the commute crash continues to block one lane. the spe ed now. the bridge crew may have been able to start moving that. we'll give you updates. ridge is the more traffic towaro biggest issue on the map here. back to you. >> thank you, mike. still ahead for you at 6:30, a 49er fan missing. he went to the restroom during

as you can see, we've repositioned the camera. you see the fire crews getting sh cam video coming from cal s fire. you can see a woman trying to escape with her cat and she's trying to wheel off in a wheelchair and thankfully a firefighter is there to help her out, getting out of that car and helps drive her to safety. later on the "today" show, not too long from now, you're going to hear an interview about firefighters helping to evacuate patients from a hospital, another story of another heroic act by these firefighters, and this was after an ambulance caught fire at an exit route in the paradise area. we want to show you a clip from that interview that will air on the "today" show. >> we refuged them in the house, we told them protect this home, this is our ft. knox basically.

residents whose homes were spared, now being allowed to move back. >> the fire was over there.ould. it was doubtful. >> there's also the hill fire burning nearby, 4,500 acre there is, 92% contained. the cause of the fires remain under investigation. >> 6:35. turning to other news this wednesday morning, police police are searching for a missing 49ers fan. officers say 33-year-old ian cowers was last seen during the game at levi stadium. his girlfriend said they were visiting the bay area with their two children. she says powers went to the bathroom in the fourth quarter and never came back. she tried texting and calling >> he never got a chance to talk to us, like after we made it back to the hotel, didn't know where me and the kids were, he wouldn't have just disappeared and not called. >> levi's staff is helping police by giving them surveillance video.

more details for you in the recent antio head pleaded guilty itin a cour. the shooting happened last week, neighbors called police sawas m with a gun. when police arrived at that suspect's home, the man opened the door and immediately fired with a high-powered bb gun. police say that one officer was struck in the head and suffered minor injuries. that man barricaded himself insided the suspect peacefully surrendered after several hours. he is now being held on a $245,000 bail, and will return to court in two weeks. i want to show you live pictures here san mateo westbound. there is the service lane, and that was added years ago, specifically so what i just saw were flashing lights can get through the area. another tow truck headed toward

right now at 6:42, led's head to palo alto. where we start out with smoke-filled skies and chilly temperatures again this morning. we will see the temperatures going up pretty fast. we'll be at 52 at 10:00 and 65 degrees at 2:00 this afternoon. all of us will be in the 60s today. we'll talk about that and our improved air quality for the weekend, coming up in less than five minutes. >> and overall, the bay is looking good. recovery for the san mateo bridge, but we still have the traffic alert going on northbound 101 is jammed ascota.

truck in the area. bob redell is on the scene. what is the latest? >> reporter: well, mike, they're trying to get this u.p.s. double big rig upright so they cane tr. right now on northbound 101 between railroad and sierra here in cotati, two of the lanes are shut down because the rig rig overturned around 4:00 this morning. the cab and part of the front rig caught fire. there was a vegetation fire and with the fire season going on, there was a tremendous response from the fire department, not only to rescue the driver, but also to make sure this brush fire, smalln io something greater, which it did not. the driver was able to get out on his own, suffered a broken arm. according to chp, what happened is this driver wasn car that was stalled. he didn't see distracted, hit that and this accident happened behind us. the driver of the car that was stalled they haven't found the

person. they don't believe the person was in the car, maybe they stalled and took off, whatever the case s they're trying to investigate. you have this double big rig full of packages for u.p.s. some of the packages for damaged and/or destroyed in the fire but looks like the second part of the rig, that didn't catch fire, from what we can see in this vantage appoint, assuming the packages weren't super fragile, are okay. it's at least another hour or two before chp will be able to open all three lanes here of northbound 101, again, between railroad and sierra in cotati. the commute direction is on the on site side with the brake lights h aprlem obob. live pictures for you there at the dumbarton bridge there. today booths all they're currently considering two options here, one to eliminate the stopping at the together. toll booths. you zip on through. the other option there would be to remove the all together, just like the golden gate bridge. new for you this morning, a southern california family

really demanding answers. this is after their son was found dead in the popular resort city of playa del carmen in mexico, south of cancun. >> 27-year-old taylor meyer of hermosa beach was killed last week during a robbery. according to reports, the suspects took off with his iphone, wallet and shoes. meyer was in mexico with friends for a birthday party. he separated from the group and ended up in a park away from the tourist area. they believe the mexican government is hiding the truth because of the impact it could have to tourism. >> we really want the fbi involved in the investigation of >> a candlelight vigil was held monday night. according to reports, axicorave advisory, urging tourists to exercise increased caution when visiting right now, a group of migrants traveling in a caravan steps away from the

this afternoon as jim acosta tries to get his press pass back. president trump has named a former general as the next ambassador to saudi arabia. you've heard his name before, ne charge of one of our wars. he'll have to be confirmed by the senate. he's from our redwood citady t saudi arabia has been a problem. we don't have an ambassador to south korea as we deal with problems on that peninsula, egypt, honduras, iceland, just to name a few. we were talking on monday the appearance of republican congressman-elect dan crenshaw on "saturday night live" accepting an apology from a cast member for making fun of his eye patch. crenshaw lost his eye in battle and his gracious acceptance of the apology and what he said next to the audience is really worth watching, if you haven't seen it. i bring it up because the congressman-elect has written an op-ed in this morning's
