i'm kris sanchez. >> i'm scott mcgrew. marcus and laura have the holiday off, as well as kari, so we'll check in with vianey. >> i hope no one has burnt anything yet. right now we're starting to notice that it's going to dry out just a little bit because that rain is finally trekking east. if you're heading out, let's check your forecast. our daytime highs only expected to stick in the 60s. not a warm afternoon. in fact, we're not going to get above the mid-60s at all. as far as your rain goes, i'm tracking incoming rain tonight and that will mean some flooding for the burn scars. as you head out the door, 50s and 40s in santa rosa. let's get a check of how your traffic is doing. not a lot going on through there. i always love reporting that everybody's safe and i'm not

noticing any accidents. a couple fender-benders there. even if you have the road all to yourself, please don't speed. just like this lone truck. back to you. a new police investigation after a scare at a popular nightclub that had folks saying, not again. this was at the saddle rack nightclub in fremont off auto expressway. >> let's go live to "today in the bay's" thom jensen who's been live at the scene all morning. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, scott and kris. this is not the way people wanted to start their thanksgiving holiday. early this morning, just after midnight, the saddle rack nightclub at country western club was evacuated after a gunshot. at least one shot rang out in the parking lot here. people are sounding off on social media this morning about this. talking about the shooting on facebook and twitter about how scared they were. on "east bay times" facebook page, one woman said she had

just gotten a drink and all of a sudden security started clearing out the bar, telling everybody to evacuate. but others also said they were afraid to go out in the parking lot. they didn't know if the shooter was out there because that's where the shot rang out. we did learn from a manager here that there was one person found dead in the parking lot. they said no one else was injured. they wouldn't say anything else. fremont police have not confirmed this yet but this is a strong indication that there is no suspects and one person is dead. this was likely a suicide. you can imagine how tense this was out here earlier this morning, very early this morning, especially after two weeks ago when 12 people were killed, including a sheriff's sergeant at a country western club in thousand oaks. we'll have more details for you as they come available. thom jensen, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much. turning to the last-minute thanksgiving day travel rush as

we look live at sfo this morning. the skies are clear over there. if you're headed to the airport even to fly out yourself or pick somebody up, make sure you check ahead. right now there are eight flights already canceled and that number is expected to go up. if you're hitting the roadways, remember they are still slick. chp responded to 75 crashes in the south bay alone yesterday. we talked with one man who hurt his hand and elbow when his car rolled over and crashed into a tree. >> i passed a tow truck and i thought, if i get into an accident on this road, that tow truck will be the one to pick me up. lo and behold, a moment later that tow truck was there. >> we talked with dick's automotive in campbell and they tolds they brought in extra drivers to work overtime and they're responding to about 40% more calls than usual. take a look at l.a.x. it has been very busy. overnight traffic getting to the

airport was insane. brake lights as far as the eye can see. a tough travel day. hopefully the payoff will be nice when you have thanksgiving dinner with friends and family. >> hopefully. just don't bring up politics or religion. orbit coin. the spirit of thanksgiving will be alive in butte county despite the devastation and tragedy left behind behind the camp fire. thousands of evacuees are getting a thanksgiving meal courtesy of world central kitchen which is a nonprofit started by celebrity chef jose andre andreas. the group is hoping to speed 15,000 survivors and will travel from shelter to shelter with those meals. the salvation army also providing warm meals for fire victims today. that is happening later today every at chico state. the death toll continues to grow from the fire. it's now at 83 people. of those 58 people have been identified. there's still more than 500 other people still listed as missing or unaccounted for.

the fire is now 85% contained and the rain is helping with the containment and the fire fight, but also making things very difficult in another way. there are concerns of mudslides in some burn scar areas. also making the work of looking for victims very difficult. the rain making it difficult for evacuees also who are still living in their cars. 6:06 on your thursday morning. last night people affected by the wildfire shared a meal ahead of thanksgiving. our affiliate station kcr spoke to people about what they are thankful for. >> we need a table for nine. >> reporter: in butte county the turkey and fixings. >> dinner for five. >> reporter: have a deeper meaning. healing from the camp fire's trauma. >> for about five hours i didn't know if my children were safe. it was the scariest time in my life. >> being soothed with compassion. >> so, i'm just very blessed,

you know, they're okay. and i feel for all the families still missing their loved ones. they're still missing. sorry, it's hard. >> reporter: and touching generosity. >> i'm thankful for everybody here. >> reporter: oroville's fire department nourishing hundreds. >> the teacher i work for lost everything. my friends lost their whole home. it's devastation everywhere. >> reporter: at a time of irreplaceable loss, breaking bread as neighbors. >> and that people that have lost everything they give their time to is very touching. >> reporter: proving gratitude is grounded by community. >> but this right here gives us hope, you know, to not think about ourselves but to think about others and to come together. just so we know each other is here. none of us are alone.

butte county is a wonderful little community. all of our towns together, people don't see the beauty in our town. it's a beautiful place. >> but the community is the people. it is the people. for a lot of families, the food is still about 12 hours away but some folks are taking the time, as those folks were, to give back. >> this time it's in san francisco >> hi, pete. those folks can teach us a thing or two about managing a kitchen. >> reporter: yes, indeed. happy thanksgiving to you back in the news room. yes, this is the annual event at glide where you'll have hundreds of volunteers carving up turkeys, carving up hams, giving out to folks in need. we're talking about the homeless community in san francisco. it's a really great event. i've seen the community come

together. once again we're here with miguel with glide. long time no see. i'll let you talk about the event. at 7:30 is the breakfast and 10:00 a.m. is the big dinner. >> every morning we have breakfast at glide at 7:30. we go to about 9:00. at 10:00 we'll have thanksgiving with all the fixings. excited about that. >> reporter: thousands of pounds of meat, the veggies over there. really, this is addressing a big need in this community specifically in san francisco. >> yes, it's the holidays, thanksgiving, but we're trying to address the need every day of the year. we're open 364 days a year. breakfast, lunch and dinner. we're excited about today because for some folks there's a lot of emotion and sensitivity about thanksgiving and what we try to do is provide a place for folks who can come.

bruno mountain. it's not picking up much because the rain has made its exit. our only mobile doppler radar in the area will kind of stick up there, at least through tonight and into tomorrow because we're tracking another incoming system. in addition to the concern of the amount of rainfall that's going to fall in the north bay, there's a wind advisory that will go into effect until 4:00 p.m. we're expecting the winds to kick up to 30 miles an hour. which could be a concern for downed fretrees and power impac. definitely keep this in mind if you're going to be anywhere near the north bay. speaking of traffic and potential for downed power lines, i do have an update that just came in. it looks like we're getting some reports. everything was all good but looks like reports of already

thanksgiving is a big day here at it is 6:15. we will catch a break for the first half of thanksgiving from the rain. right now we're starting to notice clouds still lingering. temperatures in the 50s at 52 degrees. but we've still got some big changes on the way. that could definitely impact how your plaq your black freeway rolls out. a big day at nbc after "today in the bay" and the "today" show we have the big

thanksgiving day macy's parade. >> "today in the bay's" jay gray is live in new york city with all the last-minute preparations under way and they are scarfing up and putting on more layers, jay. it's freezing out there. >> reporter: it is officially now the coldest thanksgiving day parade in history. 19 right now. going down as we continue through the morning. feels like 6 with the windchill. those winds were a concern. there go the giant balloons, the character balloons. there was a big worry they wouldn't fly during this parade. if the winds got 23 miles sustained, 30-mile-per-hour gusts, this it wouldn't happen. they would be grounded. we didn't reach that threshold. they're on the route here and the parade is officially under way. you have 43 other smaller heritage balloons, they're called, 26 floats. they're starting to come by as well here as this thing gets

rolling. a lot of entertainment on these floats. you'll see diana ross today, john legend, martina mcbride, ashley tisdale. the list goes on. pentatonix, bare naked ladies, sugarland. all of that a part of this thanksgiving tradition. boy, what a tradition it is. 8,000 people involved in putting this parade on. 3.5 million lined up along the parade route. we talked about it earlier, they've been here since before the sun came up. i've had a bottle of water out here to try to stay refreshed, it's frozen at this point. it's a cold morning but a great way to start thanksgiving. >> you mentioned the bare naked ladies might be a little cold. >> reporter: yes. >> you said 3.5 million. the security issue, as it is every year, has got to be an issue again.

weather and traffic. we're getting a little break from the rain, which is great for the first probably maybe couple hours of your day. as we inch towards that 3:00, 4:00 hour, things will change which is why we have our very own storm ranger scanning on top of san bruno mountain because it's the only doppler radar in the area. the scan is live which means compare this one to the other ones, it's about two to five mates head while the others are two to five minutes behind. this scans closer to the ground so that incoming rain, the next round makes its way in, let me show you what we're talking about. this hour by hour outlook, i want to give you a timeline. your guests are coming over, they're probably wondering if they'll get washed out. if you are planning a backyard barbecue, don't. 5:30, north bay, santa rosa, napa, san rafael, it will get a lot of rain but not everyone will see the heavy rain

initially. by 7:30, 8:30 p.m., that's where we begin to see the widespread showers through oakland, hayward, half moon bay, down through morgan hill. it looks like the system is a little slower to move out which is why we'll keep a lot of that rain in a place through tomorrow morning, through that friday morning commute. all of those people planning to head out shopping on black friday, take your umbrella. if you have to wait in line for everything, you're going to be soaked. as far as the forecast, saturday at 7:00 a.m. we'll get showers left over and then a ridge of high pressure that will come in, dominating, drying us out. your estimated rain totals, highest up through the north bay, just over 2 inches. just over an inch and a half in through the more -- i would say maybe walnut creek, just over an inch and a half. down through san jose, over a quarter, it will fall in that rain shadow. there are flash flood watches in effect, especially for the fire burn zones. paradise, look at this number go up as i take you all the way

through friday's storm. just over 6 inches of rain, which is going to bring the potential and concern for mudslides. also there is a wind advisory in place for the north bay mountains because conditions are expected to gust upwards of 30 miles per hour. and look at that, we get our next system into play on tuesday. it's time for the rain to come in, but i do want to update you on how the roads are looking because so far we've been pretty good this morning. all of the things that have popped up, according to chp, have been minor fender-benders, which is a good sign considering that the roads are still fairly wet out there. and let's take a look at your east bay drive times. this is typically our hotter spots, especially around southbound 680. you're only looking at 1 1 minutes. coming up next on "today in the bay," nbc bay area responds. >> you've got consumer problems, we've got a team of consumer problem solvers. nbc bay area responds next.

recent wins. >> happy thanksgiving. we have recovered more than $2.1 million for our viewers since we started this up a little more than 2 1/2 years ago. cases large and small contribute to our running total there. on the large side, the complaint cynthia in san jose sent us. she said a delivery truck smashed into her apartment balcony and did almost $4,000 in damage. the delivery company declined to cover it at first, but our team got involved and got them to pay the $3985 repair bill. on the smaller but equally important and let's talk about jocelyn in san mateo. she returned a beauty care product but did not get a refund. despite several calls, they went nowhere. our team stepped in and got jocelyn her $39.95 back. i have a story about return problems that i'll bring you tomorrow. it has a lesson for all of us

check out how it looks right now in san francisco as we begin to see that cloud cover, it's kind of going to stay this way all day. it's going to remain cloudy as that second system approaches. you're also going to notice an increase in the wind speeds. something to keep in mind. it definitely cleared out our air quality beautifully. if it feels like you can breathe at the bay and the coast down through the santa clara valley, you can definitely breathe good air quality today. open up those windows. hopefully you didn't burn anything for thanksgiving. i hope the rolls are good, the mac and cheese is good. you know what else is good? our roads. i haven't had to report any major accidents aside from a couple early morning fender-benders. no big issues out on the roads. let me show you what the bay bridge toll plaza looks like right now because you can see that amazing cloud coverage. no metering lights. they would have been on a long time ago if this was any other day. back to you. new this morning, a police investigation after a scare at a popular nightclub. this happened at the saddle rack

overnight in fremont judge oust auto mall parkway. >> let's go live to "today in the bay's" thom jensen who has been at the scene all morning long. this had to be a heart-sinking moment for those folks. >> reporter: it really was, after that shooting in thousand oaks where a gunman killed 12 people, including a sergeant's officer. last night shots rang out at the saddle rack country western bar was evacuated just after midnight when a gunshot rang out in the parking lot. security guards started yelling, get out and people swarmed out the door here. this is a popular club. what has become a pre-thanksgiving gathering place for many families, friends and former classmates, according to numerous people who are commenting on twitter this morning. this is not the way, i'm sure, they wanted to start their thanksgiving. on facebook one woman said she

was just about to sit down near the dance floor when a security guard started yeshlgs get out. another customer told "the east bay times" they were scared to leave because they thought the gunman was outside. one person was found dead in the parking lot and police said that there are no suspects being sought. this comes so close to that thousand oaks shooting outside a country club, folks were no doubt nervous as they left the country western bar. the fact there is a victim and no suspect being sought does indicate this was likely a suicide. police have not yet confirmed that. we're live in fremont, thom jensen, "today in the bay." >> how sad. thank you very much, thom. to butte county where it will be a very somber thanksgiving. the rain is complicating things for search teams in the camp fire burn zone as they're still combing through the rubble for any human remains. late yesterday two more bodies were found. >> that puts the death toll at

83. jodi hernandez is in paradise. needless to say, it's going to be difficult on thanksgiving for so many there, but they're grateful to be alive. >> reporter: with the first of two rain storms barrelling down, searchers are now braving the harshest of conditions to find those missing in the camp fire. >> inevitably the weather makes the work a little more difficult, a little more gruelling, trying to get this done. slippery ground, rough terrain. just the weather compounds things but the work continues. >> reporter: as many hope and wait for news of missing loved ones, volunteers are working to try to bring comfort to survivors. chefs from across the bay area and the state are here cooking up holiday meals. >> we've been cooking all night and all day and receiving deliveries from 6:00 a.m. to midnight, just getting ready to feed as many people as possible. >> reporter: many local animal hospitals have been swamped,

too, caring for fury fire victims, including this little one. he came to us looking for help during our monday night live shot. we nicknamed him campy and took him to the vca valley oak animal hospital. where we checked up on him. >> eating, drinking, doing well. he's got his pain patch. >> reporter: campy has first and second degree burns on his paws and singed whiskers but he wants to cuddle and find his owner. >> he probably has an owner because he's so friendly. he's very cuddly and everything, so i'm thinking there's probably an owner out there. >> reporter: in butte county, jodi hernandez, nbc bay area news. hugs and sloppy kisses for this camp fire survivor in san francisco last night. michael frye thought his 12-year-old dog died after flames leveled his house. turns out his dog was just hiding in a cemetery. >> so many good hearts out there. it makes this whole disaster

less complicated. >> frye left animal care and control with donated dog beds, toys, gas money and he says tremendous relief and gratitude. animal care and control has nine more dogs from the fire zone and they're hoping to reunite them with their owners. the dogs were brought to the bay area to be housed with foster families while that search continues for their owners. so many families torn apart, decimated by the camp fire. nbc bay area, telemundo and united way will be having a fund-raiser next tuesday from 6:00 in the morning to 7:00 in the evening. all the money raised will help those affected by the fire to find temporary housing and perhaps permanent housing among their other needs. lots of people helping in the san francisco bay area as well. glide memorial church will start its annual thanksgiving dinner today. >> maybe you're up early this morning, getting that turkey to

room temperature before you put it in the oven. the folks at glide memorial have been cooking for days. >> 1200 pounds. >> they've been doing it for so long, they're old pros. "today in the bay's" pete suratos is live at glide memorial church in san francisco. it's amazing how smooth this runs, pete. this is a big undertaking. >> reporter: that's right. and happy thanksgiving to you back there in the news room. a lot of food being served to thousands of people. thousands of the homeless community in the bay area. this is just a sample. thousands of pounds of ham, turkey, and i'd be remiss if i didn't mention the vegetables over here to balance things out. we'll bring the ceo in here for glide. cara hanrahan. good to see you. talk about this event. i covered it for the past three years.

what is it like when you see these hundreds of volunteers helping out on this special day. >> it's an incredible day not just for glide and not just for the community we serve, but the entire city. there are people across san francisco and the bay area that come together both here physically and also through donations. we get from across the bay area, we get donations of food, of money, of time and it's a really special day because it really represents the glide -- the role glide plays in bringing people together and kind of bridging gaps in the city. >> a lot of folks know about what takes place here at dmrgli but what role does glide play not just here in the community but beyond the bay area. >> as you can see just walking around the city, the challenges the city faces are huge and increasing. more people on the streets, greater food and security, the opioid epidemic, all of these

challenges are compounded. we're seeing more suffering all around us in the city and in the bay area. glide starts by saving lives, meeting people, helping them address crisis, getting them in our doors, treating them with love and dignity and helping them get where they can be more self-reliant. not just getting them off the streets but keeping them off the streets. we have early childhood education, job training. we employ -- 40% of our staff is from the communities we serve. so, glide plays an increasingly important role in this city. not just in providing services but also being a voice of reason and community, bridging gaps in this time of divisiveness. >> thank you so much. happy thanksgiving to you. that breakfast starts at 7:30. i'll leave you with volunteers. this is what it's all about. doing great work on this thanksgiving holiday.

we've also got a look ahead for your weekend for those wondering if the rain wille linger into friday, saturday and sunday. i've got an update on that for you. as far as your sierra snow totals right now, that's also kind of noticing a bit of a watch in place. we have road conditions overall. look at that. wow. so, we've got a couple of advisories in place. chains are currently required over donner summit. we're expecting 12 to 24 inches of additional snowfall up in the sierra. especially through tomorrow as the second system comes in. be mindful of that. don't be like this lady with her sandals. i've also got a current picture of what the live weather underground camera is showing up in the sierra.

black friday is tomorrow - . we're not seeing much rain anymore. the last of those showers making their trek out to the east. we have more rain on the way in san francisco. 56 degrees. not only am i tracking more rain, i'm also tracking sierra snow and wind advisories for the north bay. i'll break down a complete

timeline of that coming up. black friday is tomorrow. cyber monday just days away. we're learning amazon mistakenly shared some customer data. the company e-mailed customers yesterday letting them know their names and e-mail addresses were exposed because of a technical error. amazon says the error has been fixed and the changing of passwords is not necessary. the company will not say who got that private information. you know to leave politics and religion off the dinner table topic of conversations, but now add bitcoin to the list. if you listened to your brother-in-law last year and you bought bitcoin while it was soaring, now you are out a lot of cash. your $1,000 investment, for example, now only worth about $450. bitcoin hit its record high last decemb december. it's now at a 13-month topic of conversation and leave your broerm off your shopping list.

if you're going to deep fry a turkey, take it outside. >> you do not want an explosion like this to happen. you want to make sure that turkey is 100% completely thousandthawed out all the way through. if there's any ice or frozen part, that's what explodes when it hits the hot oil. once the bird is thawed, you want to figure out how much cooking oil to use by measuring with water and then you have to dry everything out again. >> our biggest message is, don't get distracted. we want to make sure there's nobody in the kitchen that shouldn't be in the kitchen. that's where we see a lot of burn injuries around the holiday. everybody is together, the last thing you want to do is spend it in the emergency room. >> use a thermometer so your oil is 150 degrees. cook the bird three minutes per pound. if it's raining out this morning -- >> no, no, no. >> put it on the smoker at this point or the barbecue. >> oil and water do not mix. the stock markets closed on this thanksgiving. thanksgiving not just about family and football, it's

becoming more about shopping. in fact, every year the number of americans hitting the mall continues to increase. this year 26% of shoppers plan to head to the store. 29% plan to shop online, according to deloitte. 164 million people planning to go shopping over the thanksgiving weekend, according to the national retail federation. of those shopping this year, 65% say they're doing it to take advantage of deals, promotions and sales and a fourth said shopping was a thanksgiving tradition. another fourth just said it was fun to do. something over the holiday weekend. so, there were some big vips at the warriors game last night. for the first time in two weeks, these kids finally had something to celebrate. >> we have a lot of people here affecteded by the fire. thank you for coming and being with us. happy thanksgiving. >> those are just two of the kids that were on the paradise high school basketball teams. jordan bell and the warriors

snow. please, if you're going to be driving up, just remember you have to play it safe. we won't see a huge warm-up. we're only expected to warm up into the 60s in the afternoon. low to mid-60s. our storm ranger is up and scanning. we're nice and dry. we have the incoming storm system and this scan is going to help us detect and pinpoint the exact location at a lower surface which gives us a better, closer eye of where the weather stands. as far as your timeline, by 6:00 p.m., look at where the second storm system will be. santa rosa making its way through oakland and san francisco. as far as the rain, when is it going to clear out? it looks like the system is slower to move than we anticipated and it's going to remain through all day friday and potentially even into early

saturday morning. also look out for those winds. gusts will be kicking upwards of 30 miles per hour, especially in the north bay mountains. we might even get breezy to gusty conditions near the santa cruz mountains. heavy rain comes in tomorrow. saturday and sunday the rain clears out. we get a ridge of high pressure that dries us out and it keeps us in the 50s and 60s. our temperatures are fairly seasonable. just looking ahead toward the inland areas, we have our next chance of potentially seeing rain again make its return into the middle of next week. welcome to the rainy season. it's finally here. we welcome that with better air quality. we'll get a check of the roads. there's not a lot going on. we've been noticing this all morning long. it's been really easy to report. very happy to see. we had had a couple of fender-benders. overall this is what it looks like in the bay area. nothing major to talk about. bridge drive times, westbound 80

there was an active shooter but that was not the case. police did find one person dead in the parking lot and police told the paper that they're not looking for any suspects. officers were at the scene for a couple of hours. the scene is now clear. turning to the last minute travel rush. a live look at sfo if you're headed to the airport to fly out or pick somebody up. check ahead. right now there are eight flights already canceled and they do expect that number to increase. the death toll continues to grow from the camp fire. it is now at 83. of those, 58 people have been identified. there are still more than 500 people listed as missing. the fire is now 85% contained. the rain is helping with the fire-fighting efforts and containment, but it's making things really tough as there are concerns of landslides in the burn scar areas. the rain also making the work of looking for victims very difficult as well. if you want to help, our friends up north who suffered through that fire, join nbc bay
