>> good morning to you. a charter bus carrying university of washington marching band members crashed on the way to a competition in washington. authorities say there were total of six chartered buses and the third bus in the group went off the roadway and rolled over. a band member told local media that the bus in front of thim spun out of control before flipping into a ditch. state trooper john bryant reports that at least 40 to 45 people were transported to area hospitals. but there were no serious injuries. president trump spent the early part of his thanksgiving on a conference call with troops overseaed. speaking from florida, the president thanked the men and women for their service. he then took on a more political tone, rallying against federal judges and migrants headed to the southern border. he also revealed he's given authority to troops at the border to use lethal force if necessary. nbc has the details. nearly 6,000 troops received new orders from their commander

house republicans have subpoenaed former fbi director james kobe and former attorney general loretta lynch to testify about their actions during the 2016 campaign but the move may be more political with democrats set to take control of the house in the new year. richard? >> kristen welker, thank you. nbc news obtained copies of those subpoenas she mentioned calling for james comey and loretta lynch to testify before the house judiciary committee on december 3rd and 4th over their decision making. in a tweet, comey called for a public hearing saying i'm still happy to sit in the light and answer all questions but i will resist a closed door thing. the subpoenas were issued earlier this week by the judiciary committee chair just weeks before democrats took control. ranking committee member who will become chair in january said it is unfortunate that outgoing majority is resorting to these tactics. these subpoenas are am coming out of the blue with very little

time left on the calendar. and after the american people have resoundingly rejected the gop's approach to oversight. now to breaking news from alabama. a shooting has left multiple people injured and one person dead at the river chase galleria mall in hoover near birmingham. authorities say two people got into a fight. one pulled out a gun and shot the other. and then shot the other. >> we were checking out and then you heard active shooter. get in the back. so they were like shoving us wherever they could put us. >> the gunman tried to flee but was shot and killed by police. two victims were hospitalized with gunshot wounds. those were an 18-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl. in pakistan, authorities say three us suspected suicide bomb were kill as they tried to storm the chinese consulate this morning. the city's police chief says the men were armed with hand grenade and explosive jackets.

they were killed in a shootout with police before they could enter the building. sadly, two officers were also killed and a security guard was hurt. the police chief said all chinese nationals and consulate staff remain safe during the attack and the area has now been cleared. and now to the other thanksgiving tradition, not talking turkey here, black friday. many bargain hunters are heading out early this morning to score the huge door busters. nbc news business correspondent is in the thick of all of that. >> the black friday frenzy is already in overdrive. 164 million americans are expected to flood stores and web sites. as of 10:00 this thanksgiving morning, consumers spent $406 million online. up a striking 23% from last year. the best deals will be on tvs and electronics. target offering $600 off a 55 inch tv. best buy knocking $400 off a lg

70 inch. walmart knocking $100 off the play station 4 with spiderman. amazon offering $20,000 off the smart phone. retailers including sears and kmart have shuttered hundreds of stores this year, partly because of online shopping. but amazon is having problems of its own. alerting some shoppers that the website exposed personal e-mail addresses due to a technical error. the company declined to say how many people were affected adding the issue has now been fixed. but for many americans, the convenience is worth the risk. >> the benefit of using mobile for a consumer is that it's always with them. it's always on. >> our thanks for that report. we're not going to do that, are we? >> no. online. >> not going to do it. uncle is what i'll say. are you going to get out there? >> i was thinking about it. look at the temperatures. i don't know. it's going to be pretty cold

again. >> yeah. >> i don't blame you. i get it. we're looking at temperatures that are dangerously cold. yesterday we had over a dozen record low temperatures. i think this morning we're likely to shatter even more of them. look at the numbers. it was in the teens in pittsburgh. and also shattered a record in pittsburgh for the coldest thanksgiving. a lot of us dealing with this cold in the northeast. but things are changing. we're watching out for wet weather. if you're traveling to day through st. louis and then further south into parts of the mid south, that system will push eastward. things clear out nicely by sunday and temperatures definitely warm up. but behind this system is cold air and that means snow sunday night for kansas, nebraska, all the way to illinois. and into iowa. that's a look at the big weather story of the day. now here's a closer look at the day ahead.

and by the time i was able to get out of the cabin and even attempt to do anything, the hull was full of water. and the boat went -- >> was that scary? >> no. not really. it was just irritating mostly. >> now he seems very chilled out for a guy who spent 12 hours alone overnight in shark infested water. and he actually had an emergency radio beacon. but he had to wait to activate it because it was too dark. once did he though, a helicopter swooped in to save him and in about 20 minutes. and levi lost his boat and all of his possessions but he says he still loves sailing and he can't wait to get back on the water. the rescue crews who saved him said this is a tale of the importance of the emergency beacon. saved this guy's life. >> that is one lucky guy. thank you. >> bloop, just like that as he
