in san mateo. about 6:15 in redwood city, so we'll keep monitoring this, because again, there's an interesting change and i want to discuss that with you, but first, we send things over to mike. >> we have a traffic alert, vianey, the only real issue because of slicker roadways. we warn folks to be careful. most of the bay shows you the easy speed sensors. it's the north bay, coming southbound 101, things are really jamming up. it called for a traffic break, and also some slowing. you only have your fast lane open right now south 101 south of the robin williams tunnel. this will back stuff up and slow folks coming down to the golden gate bridge. chp we talked to them, my buddy sean at news desk, chp doesn't think it will take long. it's not a major crash but they have to tull it from the weeds and dirt on the side and clear. that's why they have all but one lane blocked. use caution. slick conditions around the area, slow down and i advise you doing whatever the reasons

require. no slowing through cocoa county toward the bay bridge and no backup at the bay bridge. you see the puddling and the wet roadways, that's the biggest concern but the traffic volume will build around midday, guys. those conditions we'll send it back to you. >> thank you, very much. we'll continue our live team coverage of the storm and some of the ponding on the roadways. >> "today in the bay's" pete suratos is standing about i in fremont. you drove around the bay this morning, what were you experiencing? >> reporter: good morning to you, scott and laura. we experienced some slick roadways, but as you can see, not much rain taking plais fremont, this is off of 880 southbound in fremont. there was reports of flooding at some point in that area a few hours ago, but that has since cleared up. as i showed you guys fremont not much rain we're experiencing at this point. north 101 in san rafael some

heavy rain as shoppers were doing some shopping after thanksgiving. obviously this rain causing some visibility issues for drivers and in general in the north bay, when we're out there. the area is prone to some flooding, but we did get a chance to speak to drivers in milpitas about the rainy conditions, with the incoming rainy conditions. here's what they had to say. >> we came from the richmond, california, right now. it was so scary. it was scary because the freeway was covered in rain and there was like at one point he was driving and the water just splashed all over us, kind of blinded him. >> as soon as it starts raining people act like they don't know how to drive. there are car accidents everywhere. i don't know, it's just bad. >> reporter: take you guys back out here live to mowery avenue, you have slick roadways. we'll keep an eye on conditions and have another update on "today in the bay" in the next half hour. we're live in fremont, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> all right, pete, stay dry.

checking in with vianey as well, because how long will the rains stick around? >> pete will stay dry for a little bit longer than that system is moving very slow. that means for us, of course as expected, the higher elevations will get the majority of this rain, but i want to go over the 24-hour rainfall totals. this is the latest release by the national weather service. the highest rain totals seen over the ben lomond area, just over 2.5 inches and santa rosa an inch and san francisco airport a little over half an inch. hayward and half moon bay less than half an inch and near the san jose airport, not nearly a quarter, still very much welcome. over the next couple of hours we expect on and off again showers and catch a break kind of around noon and then it will dry out a little bit and pick right back up at about 6:00, so there's an interesting break in that rain pattern there, but the estimated rain totals right now are expected to be so far as

expected just a little over an inch again through the far northern areas and that includes the burn scars there. the reason thanksgiving night, friday night, this is all encompassing. now san jose down through this area expect to see also just a little over a quarter, so we'll get a couple more chances of seeing some accumulations down through the south bay, but because of that rain shadow, there's still less of a chance, so if you're looking at this map, pinpoint where your home is located, look at the color key, it gives you a good idea what you can expect within the next couple of hours as well. we'll be back with another update in a bit. >> thanks, vianey. the showers are not stopping some soggy shoppers from trudging through the mall to score some big bargains. >> "today in the bay's" damian trujillo is live in livermore at the san francisco premium outlets, very popular. you took the drive out there,

probably not too much traffic, but what is surprising is all these people that are out there, they've been out there for hours, damian. >> reporter: i don't think they care if it rains or doesn't. it hasn't since 4:00 this morning but people are out here with smiles on their faces, at 4:00 this morning, some with eight or ten bags, they've been here since midnight last night, some with only one, came to window shop. they spent thanksgiving din we are their family, hopefully took a nap and came out here. give you a 180-degree view here, the south side of the premium outlet mall here in livermore and it's been nonstop all morning. the food court is also pretty popular. believe it or not, people are eating what you would normally eat at 6:00 p.m. they're eating that at 6:00 a.m. people are out here, look at this, see if i can walk over here, this lady has about one, two, three, four, five different bags. ma'am, can we ask you a quick

all day. i want to take you quickly to your daytime highs, expect periods of on and off again showers in through san jose, a high of about 62. palo alto 61. san francisco 60 and again, this is our daytime temperatures and we'll descend as we head toward the evening. maybe you want to wear some mittens, mike, gloves? >> how about fingered gloves, because they're cool. >> oh. >> looking over here, much better now. we had a burst of traffic that just came southbound 101 across the wet golden gate bridge. remember those slick conditions. that's why we raised that red flag as you're traveling south 101. this is the last red you'll see for this reason. southbound 101 i just got word all lanes have been cleared just south of the robin williams tunnel. already recovery out of marin, just slowing up toward the tunnel and once you pass by the earlier crash, that has cleared, then you're okay to the golden gate bridge, where we just saw again that burst of traffic recovering. slick roadways around the bay but green sensors. no major issues.

good friday morning. it is 6:14, we're tracking showers mainly up in the north bay, just north of the golden gate bridge. i want to show you temperatures as you head out the door. conditions in the 50s. 56 in san francisco, down through the south bay, 56. our daytime highs only expected to climb into the 60s. i'll break down how long these showers will be lasting in the bay area, coming up. and look over here toward 880, through oakland, we see about this volume all morning long, which is very light, past the coliseum, good lighting as well with the new street lights and we'll show what you we're shedding light on for the north bay, a change just came in. good morning, i am kate

rogers. here are today's top business headlines. wall street is set to open in the red this morning. on wednesday, the dow erased the 200-point gain to finish down about one point as shares of apple came under pressure. trading volume is expected to be low today with many people away for the holiday weekend. the holiday shopping season is expected to be strong for online sales and thanksgiving got off to a flying start. adobe which tracks e-commerce said as of 5:00 p.m. yesterday $1.75 billion was spent online, up 23% from last year. adobe expects thanksgiving sales to hit a record $3.5 billion and shopify says at the peak on thursday, retailers on the network generated more than $250,000 in sales per minute. stores are also offering shoppers new ways to make getting in and out even faster. walmart has a feature on its mobile app to make it easier for you to find an item's exact location in the store.

majority of the rain and it's still sitting over the north bay, kind of beginning to move further down south, but overall, we're seeing, you could see right through vallejo, getting a little bit of rain, our storm ranger has been up and scanning. livermore is fairly dry. san jose is fairly dry. even san francisco and the downtown area is also pretty dry. if i zoom in, the areas getting the most of the rain is the richmond area. novato is getting showers in through the area. concord expect to see rain within the couple of minutes. through san ramon a couple of spotty showers in the higher elevation areas and these are showers. it's not extreme heavy downpours. as far as the winds go, we will still see the chance of breezy to windy conditions in the higher elevations and along the coast. the wind advisory that was originally set for the north bay expired last night. the winds peaked last night. be mindful in chico where the burn scars, we expect to see the flash flood watch in effect. they are expecting windy

conditions at 17 miles per hour right now. overall your microclimate highs for today in the 60s. we'll keep the showers into the afternoon. i really want to take you through the future hour by hour outlook. by is 1:00 a.m., a better chance of seeing showers through the san jose area through pleasant on, include the santa cruz mountains as well. if i fast forward to about 3:00, we get another line of heavier downpours in through napa, san rafael making its way toward san francisco and this continues to push southward. 7:00 p.m. showers pushing through palo alto and if i fast forward the time line, you can see moisture remains in through the early morning hours on saturday. that hour by hour outlook looks like it's periods where you might not be catching any rain at all and it starts sprinkling or drizzling again within the next couple of hours. so as far as your seven-day outlook goes, a few a.m. showers headed into tomorrow. sunday we dry out quite nicely for a beautiful, sunny clear day, same with monday. on tuesday, the clouds begin to

roll in and we might see rains mid morning with the rain off to the north for most inland areas but the winds will pick up as well. mike? >> vianey, radar just showed all that rain going down in san rafael. i want to show folks, this is the wet look we have from richmond side of that richmond to san rafael bridge. some drops and wet on the roadway and the light traffic. the traffic is not the issue. it's the conditions for that traffic and over where vianey is showing the radar activity, we see the road and weather conditions creeping toward 101, wet roads and a report from chp saying there was some flooding reported in your far outer lane southbound 101 at 580, right near the interchange, so again, the volume not a concern but the conditions are. so stay to the middle of the roadway, the higher lanes typically off of the crown there and they'll be a little bit drier. looking toward the recovery south through the robin williams tunnel, no problem after that crash was cleared. no major injuries there. look at that green sensors all around the bay, this is a great drive all across the bay.

definitely expecting to get more as we head in toward the afternoon. hayward catching some showers. we were seeing this over san ramon, that trekked out to the east and plenty of the moisture behind it. i want to show you how your temperatures are doing today. it gives you a good idea of how much you need to bundle up. it's not necessarily going to be cold but it will be in the 60s. 61 degrees in palo alto, 62 for san jose and breezy along the coast and the north bay, so please keep that in mind. let's get a check of the roads with mike. >> vianey, light roads as could you imagine, the day after thanksgiving. san jose we have much less traffic than we typically do. damp roadways but the skies you see some sunlight coming, great news. vianey showed you along the radar some of the rain coming. next time i'll look at the san mateo bridge. looked like hayward was getting hit for a few minutes and we've seen that traveling across, wet here toward 580 both directions, just east of those outlets, where damian gives us those reports. lot of traffic at the parking lots, so keep that in mind

today. over here, we did get that report of a flooding in san rafael for 101 at 580 as the rain cell moves through, vianey showed us for the north bay but an easy, light drive. the bay bridge toll plaza, no metering lights all morning. here is a little rain on the lens north of there at the richmond to san rafael 580 bridge. >> thank you, mike. >> 6:52. we continue our microclimate weather alert team coverage this morning. >> pete suratos is out in the drizzle. we had freeway closures last night into this morning. what have you been experiencing when you're driving around? >> reporter: good morning to you, scott and laura. we've seen some slick roadways driving in this morning. there were some freeway closures but all is clear. i want to show you guys we moved 880 southbound, you could see some, not many cars going right now but there were cars headed toward stevenson boulevard, dealing with the slick freeway as a result of the rain from overnight. we'll show you video from this morning, just a few short hours

ago southbound 880, some reports of flooding but rain coming down, but there was a point where the freeway was flooding in that area, but it did clear up not too long after. here is some video off of 101 north in san rafael, we saw a good amount, dump of rain there, causing visibility issues in that area due to the heavy rain and of course we've always reported on that area, prone to a good amount of flooding when that rain occurs. did you get a chan-- we spoke t drivers how they'll deal with the rainy continues. >> it's scary but it's busy. >> it's more dangerous, you know, but we need to drive with safety, i will be working today in the morning. >> reporter: safety first? >> oh yes, safety, any time. >> reporter: take you back out here live, you see cars making their move on the slick freeways, following that rain.

of course, we'll continue to keep an eye on the conditions and provide updates as they come in. always a good idea to slow down on the roads this morning. we're live in fremont, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> good advice, pete, thanks. if you're not one of the millions of people staying indoors on your computer to shop, you're one of the millions headed out to the stores to score some deals. >> people like to get up in the middle of the night and shop, that's what we're finding, especially damian trujillo, not the shopping part but found people like to get up in the middle of the night and shop. he's over at the san francisco premium outlets. how is it looking out there? >> reporter: well, people were here 12 hours ago, 6:00 p.m. during the middle of thanksgiving dinner. they decided to pack up and head over to the premium outlets here in livermore, here at this tommy hilfiger store. people have to form a line, there's so many inside that security needs to control the flow of traffic here. here is some more folks coming into the line right now. it's just been mayhem out here.

people getting here again late yesterday, late last night, and early this morning, trying to get their early shopping in, and police are asking people to park over at las pocitas college and take a shuttle, six or seven every hour taking people to and from the mall in livermore. it's been like this since we got here at 4:00 a.m., and people with eight bags, nine bags, ten bags. see if i can bother the young ladies quick. what time did you all get here and why so late or early? >> we get here -- >> reporter: how late yesterday? >> 9:00 p.m. >> reporter: 9:00 p.m. and you bought what in that time? what did you buy? clothes? >> yes, clothes, shoes. >> bags, wallets. >> reporter: and these are the smart ones, because they're standing underneath the umbrella because it's beginning to drizzle a little bit. they're making sure they remain dry for the duration. again, this is what you are

crowds because the city red sta tagged the store. no word on when it will reopen. to contra costa county, a new video showing flames ripping through a mobile home. fire crews were called to the concord mobile home park last night to try to put out this fire. they were eventually able to get it under control. the good news here, no one was hurt. we don't know how that fire started. in san lorenzo people were able to get out safely but unfortunately one man died yesterday afternoon. neighbors in the alameda county firefighters tried to save the man but the flames were too intense. the exact cause is unknown but it is not related to cooking. 6:37 on your holiday friday, this holiday weekend, striking hotel work eers will not take a break. marriott hotel workers have been on strike across the country for 50 days, including 2,500

employees in san francisco, demanding higher pay, better working conditions. marriott and its employees not able to reach a deal this week. workers are prepared to go on strike as long as it takes to get a fair contract. marriott workers in san jose and oakland reached contract agreements earlier this month. >> there are folks who are working or concerned about working, we'll keep an eye on the rest of the world here including the weather. folks on the roadways as well but it's very light, so contra costa county has not seen any problems this morning. we've seen a little puddling and ponding, that's the blue right here on our road weather index and green highlighted over there through the north bay, also means wet roadways. the flooding that was reported 101 at 580 just off the richmond to san rafael bridge has been cleared from the chp report. they found a lot of water but no flooded lanes so that's better news. smooth drive for the rest of the bay as we take a live look, we'd check the hayward side of the san mateo bridge. it doesn't look like a problem but you can clearly see the damp roadways and the radar is showing activity in this area so you could see a little less of

what you could see, a little cloud cover going through. not a big deal though. >> it's nice to see all this rain in the area. >> it will move in throughout the day. kind of a slow moving. >> it's rather slow and it looks like it's going to be again kind of the showery activity, not necessarily heavy downpours continuous all day long. no, we'll catch breaks and it will drizzle, pick up again, get heavier into the evening hours. right now, i want to look ahead toward your saturday forecast, because there is a good chance that because of the way the system is moving, we might get some early a.m. lingering showers. this is all before the 10:00 a.m. hour, so if you're worried about outdoor plans into the afternoon and got something going on, don't worry about it. after i want to say mid morning, we should be cleared out, drying out quite nicely, and then kind of see the return of that sunshine. for the coast, bay and inland i keep the lingering morning showers, temperatures will remain much like what we're going to see today in the 60s. as far as your sunday forecast, here is a look at that. sunday we dry out completely.

off again. i'll take you through the time line and a look at the past 24-hour rain totals so far, which areas saw the highest rain totals, details coming up. >> over here we're seeing rain. i don't know what the total is but total cars going to san rafael from richmond look like three right now. light traffic but the conditions are a concern. we'll show you how i can help. >> a lot of people sleeping in. thank you, mike. 6:44. i wish we had better news but developing now, a mall in alabama reopening this black friday morning following a deadly shooting last yigt. -- night. >> kira klapper is here with more on the investigation under way. what do we know? >> here's what we know right now. the gunman is dead and two others, including a 12-year-old girl were shot. police say the shooting happened after a fight broke out between two people inside alabama's largest enclosed mall in hoover, alabama, just outside birmingham. police are identifying the gunman, not giving his name but saying he is 21 years old. he pulled out a gun and shot an

18-year-old. police do not believe the 18-year-old was armed. an armed police officer who happened to be working security at the mall confronted the gunman as he tried to run away, shooting and killing him. police aren't sure whose dgunfie hit the 12-year-old fire. witnesses told our nbc affiliate they heard two rounds of gunshots. >> we were in old navy and we didn't know what happened, we were scared and concerned what was going to happen to us. >> she got caught in the rush and pushed into the people and pushed into other things and then the shots started firing the second time, and so i couldn't get to her. it was just sad. >> can you imagine? the 18-year-old victim is listed in serious condition. the 12-year-old we're told does not have life-threatening injuries. shopping by the way was cut short at the same small one year ago last thanksgiving when fights broke out. one person was treated for minor

injuries at that time. >> kira, thank you. the search continues for victims remains in butte county. hundreds of people still missing of course following the camp fire. in par days, families are hoping to get closure as the exact number of missing fluctuates. the rain complicating things tremendously. crews say the rain and wind make the already tough search miserable. search team did find the remains of another person bringing the total to 84. flames have scorched more than 153,000 acres. the fire is now 95% contained. a wine country wildfire survivor spent thanksgiving putting up christmas trees at one of the main intersections in paradise. >> such a nice gesture. much of the town was described in that camp fire, but ronny duvall is from the coffey park neighborhood in santa rosa, that one burnt down last year. he and other government workers traveled to butte county yesterday.

showers we see tomorrow we'll leave kind of early. let me zoom in to some areas. the color key showcases the rainfall intensity and it's kind of green all morning long, which means it's nice and light showers, not heavy downpours at the moment, but we've still got some rain pushing in through richmond, earlier we head through novato, trekked out to the east. some spots in san francisco seeing some rain, in through concord. fremont starting to get some of that rain, also in through milpitas, expect to get rain as well and the south bay looking pretty dry. i want to showcase the 24-hour rainfall total so far, because ben lomond the highest at just over two inches. santa rosa a little over an inch and at the sfo airport just a little over a half an inch. hayward less than half an inch, half moon bay less than half an inch and the san jose airport at least we got some rain in the south bay, a little less than a quarter, but of course we'll see additional accumulations. some areas that we're still concerned about of course are the flash flood watches for the

burn areas, and that includes the carr fire, camp fire and mendocino complex fires, for debris flow, it will remain a concern. at about 11:00, you could see san jose starts to get some of that rain for today, down through morgan hill, if i fast forward the time line again to the 4:00 hour, we get this line of showers moving through fairfield and oakland and the same line of showers will continue to push down to about 7:30, so that's why i've said even though it seems like it might be dry in your neighborhood right now, it's not going to remain that way all day. we get an interesting break in the showers and by about 6:30 a.m., you can tell the rain, majority of it clears out. squaw creek still expect to see a winter warning in effect. please be careful, headed out there, they're still expecting some additional snowfall, as they head in toward saturday morning, and we're going to keep the chance of rain again for next tuesday. mike? >> all right, vianey, calm on the roads, as you'd expect,

parking lots a little more of a battlefield i think. we saw damian's reports, folks shopping for 12 hours. these folks are pausing over the truck scales. northbound, you see the puddles. san rafael has seen recent rain but no flooding anymore, that was reported 101 at 580. the green shows you while there will be more wet roadways across toward the carquinez bridge and bay bridges, no backup at the bay bridge toll plaza, an easy drive around the bay. little bit of flooding reported around the maze, watch telegraph for the latest report. we take you out through waze, out to i-5 in sacramento, i have a crash reported, but i wanted to take you out here and let you know the waze community will still support you right here, we have cookiegninja, a great waze name. join our nbc bay area wazers, and over the river or through the woods, waze will keep you out of the river and out the other side of the woods.
