seeing rain moving through south city i'll continue to monitor this as it moves through some of the bay area. ? we care about the commute. over on the peninsula side those are key concerns as we remove the radar. you can see the road weather index. we are watching for reports. so far one in the north bay. it clears and here it is actually northbound with a crash. it shows the slowing. we also have a delay and coming into martinez. the rest of the agencies are clear. >> thanks so much. >> it is 6:01. thousands of mental health workers across the state are set to hit the picket lines.

we have more on what is ahead. >> you can see the organizers that started to get here and get their picket signs ready to go. they will be protesting outside here in san jose and also san francisco medical center in san francisco. in all 4,000 will picket at eight kaiser perm thenanente locations. they say for themselves they want kaiser to stop to hire more children in additions so th clinically in additions. they fighting for patients who they say they have to wait a month or more because of understaffing issues.

>> in a statement they say we value our therapists and calling on them to talk to union leadership and urge them to stop putting patients in the middle of the contract demand. >> kaiser promises that all medical facilities and hospitals will be up and running whether or not the clinicians head out on strike. 6:03 right now. all eyes on the white house right now. this is after two key court filings are released. it shows possible political and legal trouble ahead for the president. we are live in washington with more on that ongoing probe, susan. >> hi. good morning. here on capitol hill we are hearing the word more and more these days since the filings on

friday. we lad two separate sets of filings in new york and also from robert mueller the special council and russia investigation. it is a campaign finance violation. it is something the president has denied chltd cohen detailed contact with a russian official regarding a contract to build a hotel in moscow. it is also something the president deflied at the time. it is evidently an ongoing process. some are predicting here that the president could eventually face prosecution for some of the things mentioned in these filings. some of them are talking impeachment. the feeling here, it is too soon to really speak or consider

impeachment. they want to make sure it is democrats and republicans that if anything here, if the president is liable for any of these infractions they want clear substantial evidence of legal violations. they also seem to want to wait for mueller's report to take any further action. >> yes. this is ongoing. we will continue to watch that. thank you. breaking news to tell you about on the peninsula this morning. this is video of a large fire response in redwood city. it is unfolding near el camino. our photographer has been there for the past 30 minutes there. he is telling us that the tire shop caught fire and thatere's lot of smoke in the area. we are staying on top of this story. we'll bring you more information as soon as we get it. an emotional 49ers win.

that's how head coach described yesterday's upset victory over the denver broncos. the team dedicated the 20-14 win to york who died suddenly on friday at the age of 45. no cause of his death has been given. he was the younger brother. he was not directly involved but players and coaches say he had a huge presence. winter weather that's blasting the southeast is causing massive problems because of a culmination of ice and snow moving through virginia and the car li carolinas. more than 2 feet of ♪ felsnow. the governor is declaring an emergency. >> some have seen more than a foot of snow. we have hours and inches of snow and ice yet to come in many

places. >> across the southeast flights have been cancelled or delayed and that includes flights in and out of the bay area. here is a look. a live look there. seven flights were cancelled yesterday alone and there were 120 delays. be sure to check on your flight before heading out this morning. and we are off to a snowy start in parts of california. >> doesn't that look lovely? when it comes to the most critical water source we are off to a good start. even though winter is about two weeks away the snow pack is twice the level than it was last year at this time. it is still about a fifth of where it has to be to hit the average snow pack level for the entire season. let's keep the weatht weather coming. >> how are we looking? >> as of now no more snow in the

sierra. we are seeing a quick-moving and weak system moving through. it is bringing us rain this morning. as we go throughout the rest of the day going to see these showers fizzling out. we will have a chance of showers moving through san francisco and peninsula and parts of the east bay before it winds down. going into this afternoon we are going to start to see the skies clearing. this is right around sunset. we may still see the clouds lingering for much of the bay area today and tomorrow we'll get more sunshine and drier conditions as our temperatures come up a few more degrees. i'll be tracking that. also, what's ahead for the rest of the week. we are looking at more dry weather in the forecast heading towards friday as well before the next system arrives. more on that in a few minutes. we have a new crash on the bay bridge? >> yeah. i just tuned in the camera over there. trying to get this. the slow down and flashing

lights. this is just as you're heading up the incline towards treasure island. folks are distracted by the flashing lights. it is a tow truck to remove the vehicle. no details as far as how long it will take. we do see that backup forming and they will likely slow down the metering lights if they haven't done so already. now, no major injuries reported. fingers crossed. we'll get that clear. back-up all right started. >> the north bay holding steady. a number of crashes but none of them creating a big problem. the trivalley still holds

right now at 6:12 it is a nice and cool start to the day. also mostly cloudy. here is a live look outside. some of the scattered showers may reach this far south and then we are looking at cloudy skies throughout the morning and then a partly cloudy start to our afternoon with highs in the low 50s. here is a look at storm ranger. i'm tracking rain as most of it won't make it to the south bay. palo alto in the next hour or so. i'll continue to track it. that's coming up in less than five minutes. a bigger slow down because of the a crash. three vehicles involved on the bay bridge and a little more about the vehicles involved. we are showing a becomeup at the toll plaza. it continues to build. it is the metering lights. a very happy monday you. we continue to look loudly after a terrible week last week.

on gasoline. trump tweeted people do not want to pay large sums of money in order to maybe product the environment. he didn't seem to understand the tax issue there. people are not paying more to third world countries. they are paying more to their own government. french taxes don't go to the middle east. they go to the french government. it is very similar to a tweet the president sends last week. he bragged the u.s. government was collecting millions of dollars. when a foreign good comes into the country americans pay the tariff. the billions of dollars he is talking about here were coming from america. as i mentioned off the top wall street unsettled had a whole host of things that happened. all of which could very much effect the president's future. we'll talk more about that when we talk politics coming up in

through that may also effect your drive on 280 or 101. we are looking at a slight chance of showers during the morning but walnut creek going to keep the skies mostly cloudy at 9:00. we are dipping to 49 degrees. it will be slow today reaching the upper 50s. a little more sunshine than we had yesterday. in san jose it is only going to be about 44 degrees. make sure you're wearing something nice and warm. as you're getting ready this morning you need a little bit of extra hair spray. we see the rain moving through and it feels really damp and cool out here. we'll only reach into the upper 50s for many of the micro climates. timing out our forecast, what to expect from this rain, not much and much of it will be falling apart and drying out before it makes it into parts of the

they are all there with minor injuries. that's the good news. the human factor not a lot of injuries including the motorcyclist who is standing out there with everybody else. you can see that rain coming down now as well. light rain, yes. unpleasant and slicker roadways. we don't see the fast track lanes moving quickly anymore. slicker roadways watch the transitions. a lot of slowing at the berkeley curve. look at the bottom. north 880 coming around the final bend on the approach. it is good to ease onto the bridge. slicker spots here. road weather index here through richmond. it is on for the upper east shore. no problems for the north bay. the camera has been showing sprinkles as well. reports of a crash and spinout both have cars facing the wrong

bay for a man who police say robbed a bank at gunpoint on the central coast. the robbery happened saturday morning in grover beach >> 6:24. the search is on for a man. this is video from the bank. police announcing they have found the robber's car in san jose last night. officers think he might still be in the area. if you recognize this man give

we had a huge selloff. dow jones lost more than a thousand points. thanks for joining us. >> let's head over to a look at the forecast for today. you have been telling us about the rain in the area. >> yeah. not all of us are seeing rain. it is mostly over san francisco and the peninsula. let's move into oakland. the rain just moved in. we are starting out with wet weather. we are also seeing it on the peninsula. as you get out the door you see a chance of showers around 8:00. we'll see a mik of sun and clouds and highs reaching into the low 60s.

west 580 coming in towards the spin. the crash there trying to reprove the last of three vehicles including a motorcycle. that is from oakland to san francisco. from oakland towards the san mateo bridge should be clearing some lanes. you can see a lot of slowing there. this is heading on the peninsula side. we are looking at the radar which is bringing more in too. it could be tough for another few minutes. back to you. >> sounds good. thanks so much. we have a live look at kaiser permanente in san jose. that is where kaiser workers are preparing to hit the picket line. they are supporting mental health workers walking off the

job. we learned some 4,000 staffers promised to take part in the planned five day strike. workers accused the health care giant of not meeting staffing demands. kaiser accuses the union of putting patients in the middle. they say all medical offices will remain open. workers are picketing in san francisco. this one in the east bay. high school teachers are planning to skip class in an effort to jump start contract negotiations. they fighting for better pay and benefits. >> we are live where some students plan to show their support as well. of teachers that work here they

plan to go on strike. they will be handing out fliers and talking to parents during drop-off to educate them. they will we venn cluleventuall oakland city hall. teachers may also be joining this strike that is supposed to be lasting one day. >> you know, we are asking for a 12% raise and they are offering a 5% raise over five years. it will not keep up with the cost of living. >> we need more teachers like her to stay in oakland. >> that was a sen yoior here. she is supporting her sister who is a teacher who still lives at home in part of the of pay issues. the school district responded with a -- they say teachers that

call in sick under these circumstances will be subject to disciplinary action and loss of pay. teachers say they don't want to go on strike for less than one day unless they don't budge on some of the issues they have fighting for. the last time they went on strike was in 1996. that lasted about two months. today in the bay. >> all right. thank you. 6:34 right now. even though it has been more than a month many residents recovering it is still months if not years away from full recovery. here is the unfortunate reality for victims that lost everything sifting through the ashes for anything salvageable. the fire kalilled 85 people and destroyed some 14,000 homes. >> a story grabbing headlines around the world. a dog that had to be left behind when the owner could not find

her during the fire storm. right there it guarded the property for nearly one month until her owner returned over the weekend. this morning the today show has the amazing story of the heartwarming reunion. >> it was the worst feeling in the world. it was like, you know, it's like what can you do? you have to -- you have to choose. >> she actually had to leave behind both of her dogs. we are happy to say both are now back with ler chlher. you can watch the story during the first hour at 7:00 right after today in the bay. >> it is 6:35 right now. new this morning it could soon become the tallest building and dominate the skyline. i'm talking about proposal to build a 54 story tower. it is all up for discussion this

week. you can see where it is. pete is showijoining us live to us the proposed site. good morning, pete. it would be built here just off of christie avenue. the developer is the group they are based out of vancouver. it would be roughly 54 stories. it is a story flenear the palo street plaza here. it would be the second tallest all residential building this side of the mississippi. the developer also wants to build a 16 story tower across the street to provide retail space and parking.

good morning. so far no rain as we head over towards east san jose. rain holding off for today. partly cloudy skies. we'll go from 45 to 58 degrees. tracking some of the spotty showers moving through and we'll get a closer look as well as the

east bay where rain is falling. that's coming up in less than five minutes. and i continue following this traffic alert for the trivalley. southbound 680. we are following breaking news along the peninsula. it is is 6:44. we have an update on a story. video of a large fire response. it is unfolding near wood side road. a crew is on the scene. they tell us the tire shop caught fire. a lot of smoke in that area. also reports of a hazmat on that scene. we'll have more information throughout the morning. a hit-and-run forcing people from their homes. this is all because of this. you're looking at it right there. a car slamming into a gas line.

death of mayor ed lee. tomorrow afternoon the agent specific islander will hold it near sports mouth square. lee was among those inducted into the california hall of fame. good morning to you. there has been a lot. last week the president saw a lot of things. we saw the stock market and he made enemies even among republicans over how he is handling saudi arabia. we saw two investigations into his closest aids back in court. the prosecutors in the michael cohen case said michael cohen and the person named as individual one directed cohen to

cover up sexual rielationships with two women. we cannot say trump is individual one but we can say papers identify individual one as a person who was cohen's boss that was quote later elected president. a different filing said cohen was in touch with russian officials just before the new hampshire primaries who offered synergy on a government level to help elect donald trump president. shortly after the court papers were -- as we wade through all of this keep in mind there are two investigations, one by robert mueller and the one by the u.s. attorney in the southern district of new york. this one is manafort and the russian investigation. this one is the new cohen

investigation. i mentioned the president is dismissing his chief of staff over the weekend. the president's top pick to replace kelly as acting chief of staff turned him down. the president has been in office shy of two years and with the next chief of staff will have had three chiefs of staff. back in 2012 private citizen tweeted three chiefs of staff in less than three years of being president. we do expect an extremely busy day in washington on this monday. i will be following it along on twitter. i invite you to follow me. >> we already do. thanks. >> new for you this morning, most of us have experienced this before, maybe not to this degree but an unintended e-mail chain has quickly become an avalanche. >> a holiday polt luck e-mail accidentally got sent to nearly all of utah's 25,000 state

alameda and san leandro. it will be a soggy morning commute. it will be moving off towards the east in the next few minutes. we just had rain pouring in union city. it is moving towards the hills as well. then we are tracking rain. it is moving through quickly. this is out ahead of a cold front. we'll see rain chances going down as we go throughout the day. this is a live look at christmas in the park. you look out the window you do need something warm and maybe something in case you get caught in some of the spotty sprinkles. the rest of the day is a day for the winter gear. highs reach into the upper 50s if many of our micro climates. it is up to 5 in napa. expect a high of 57 degrees. our hour by hour outlook shows

highway 84 is a bummer coming out here. south 680 starts to speed up. it is slowing all the way down here. all lanes just cleared in the last couple of seconds. four lanes now instead of two. southbound 880 a new crash. i'm seeing more slowing. it is an issue and it may send more folks across the bridge over the next few minutes. we'll track that. i can see more activity coming through the south bay. over here on the peninsula side we had a couple of slippery spots reported. back to you. >> thank you very much. 6:52. the european union ruled that britain can change its mind over brexit. it is giving hope to those that want to stay in the eu.
