breaking overnight, chicago mourning the loss of two of their bravest. while responding to reports of gunfire on the far south side, the police officers were struck and killed instantly by a passing train. >> by doing the most dangerous thing a police officer can do, and that is to chase an individual with a gun, these brave young men were consumed with identifying a potential threat to their community and put the safety of others above their own. >> officer conrad gary was 31 years old. and officer eduardo marmolejo was 37. a police spokesman said a weapon was found near the scene, and a person of interest was questions late monday. cbs board of directors has announced former ceo les moonves will not receive his package wa groups who are fighting to eliminate sexual harassment in the workplace. the announcement about the remaining funds comes as cbs releases the results of a broad investigation into the ousted ceo's conduct. nbc's kristen dahlgren has the

latest. >> reporter: the investigation is complete. cbs confirming former boss les moonves will not be getting severance pay after a host of women came forward accusing moonves of sexual harassment. citing a breach of his employment contract, as well as his willful failure to cooperate fully. moonves today to receive $120 million in severance. a draft obtained by "the new york times" earlier this month detailed a pattern of sexual misconduct and an elaborate cover-up, saying moonves engaged in multiple acts of involving 17 women including these four cbs employees. >> he just stuck his tongue in my mouth. >> reporter: june seeley kimmel says she had a traumatic encounter with moonves more than 30 years ago when he was development head at 20th century fox. >> i was really shocked. and it was gross. it was very unappealing.

today? at some point, someone has to stand up. >> this as we brace for today's sentencing of former trump adviser michael flynn. tracie potts joining us now from washington. tracie, good morning. i want to start with the shutdown. we any closer to a deal here? >> no, not at all. not only are we not closer to a deal, phillip, but we also have no idea there is a deal in the works, if there is anything going on behind the scenes. republicans are complaining that they are not getting a signal of where the compromise might be from the white house. the last word from president trump is i'm proud to shut down the government, and that's sort of where they left it. democrats say they may deal with this in january, but for now, there is no sense of compromise from either side with four days left until this partial government shutdown, which means employees could either see their paychecks delayed or eliminated over the

christmas break. the issue, as you said is funding for wall. the $5 billion that the government, that the president is kidnappeding, and less than a third of that is what democrats are willing to give up for security. >> a lot of money, but an even bigger impact before the holidays. i want to switch gears to michael flynn. he is going to be sentenced today. do you think he'll face prison time? >> probably not because the government is recommending no prison time for him given his cooperation in this russian interference investigation. michael flynn, the former national security adviser, who was also closed to president trump during the campaign pleaded guilty to lying to the fbi, and now we have a transcript redacted, but a transcript of that interview where the fbi says he lied about his contacts with the russian ambassador in the weeks leading up to the end of that campaign. >> let's see if they go light on him today. tracie, thank you. the father of a 2-yeldyn lin
