developing especially in the north bay, a little bit more patchy in the tri valley. here is a look at current visibility. napa seeing the worst of it. visibility cut down to about a half a mile. just be mindful of that as you head to work. toward martinez a chilly start, mid-40s and mostly clear conditions, headed into the low 60s for today, but i'm also tracking a chance of rain for the north bay, while the rest of the bay area stays dry. i'll have more on that and we'll also take a look ahead to the weekend coming up in just a few minutes. yellows and reds there on the map. >> oh, yeah. in kt fact, i noticed the crash popped up along westbou80th so,o show you some areas where there is a lot of red and yellow. what that means on my traffic map is there's slowing. some areas are seeing bumper to southbound 880, apr typical morning hot spot. it's time to take that coffee to go. i'll send it back to you.

happening today, michael flynn facing a sentencing hearing. the former national security adviser pleading guilty to lying to the fbi about his communications with russia. "today in the bay's" tracie potts joins us live on capitol hill with more on how much time behind bars he could face. good morning, tracie. >> hi, laura, good morning. maybe not a lot at all, maybe none. the government says he's been cooperating in this russia investigation, so they are recommending no jail time for general flynn. for months, he's been working with them after pleading guilty to lying to the fbi. he sat down with the fbi and in a discussion about his meeting said theinauguration, with he they did not talk about sanctions that we had placed on that country. turns out, he did, and he later admitted that, and in admitting that, he lied to the vice president, and that'swhy general flynn was fired.

lying to the fbi is why he's in court today to be sentenced, but again, the russia investigators, the mueller team say he's been cooperative, and so he may not get jail time at all. this goes back to the trump transition and the central question that they're looking at on whether or not there was any collusion going on between the trump team and russia. the president has insisted, no. michael flynn has been telling the mueller team something to prompt them to exclude him fro. >> and in the meantime, the president, tracie, is talking a little bit about flynn's sentencing. >> yes, he's been tweeting actually about a lot of things this morning, including flynn, saying good luck to flynn in court today, that it will be interesting to see what happens, given the fact that the president thinks that general flynn has been under tremendous pressure to help the mueller

some of the troublesome behavior that exists. they want to use existing technology, like geosensing. if you've ever had a shopping cart lock up on you in a parking lot, that's the same technology. one concern in particular is making sure scooter riders aren't riding on sidewalks or at an unsafe speed. the council will vote today to require companies like lime and wind to have a permit with the city, and the city also seeks to limit that sidewalk use. they want to use education, enforcement and technology. if that doesn't work, the city wants to make sure that they have the teeth to fine violators and cite them. they also want the power to revoke licenses of troublesome companies, if compaes not follow tiles their fleet or maybe eliminate the fleet all together. all of this is going to be part of the conversation, and i did put some of the details up in my twitter feed. i'll put it up on facebook as well this morning and i want you to join the conversation. tell us what you think about escooters in your community, not just in san jose, but really

crisis. the latest federal count finds california's homeless population fell slightly over the past year, just under 130,000. that drop of about 1500 from the previous year, and also marks the largest dip numbers wise anywhere in the u.s. nationally, the numbers of homeless stayed about the same. developing overnight, a man is robbed at an atm in concord, and the suspect is still on the run. it happened last night outside the wells fargo in the oak grove plaza shopping center, just before 8:00. l-whipped the victim. he got away with the deposit bag which contained an unknown amount of cash. sonoma county leaders reportedly meet behind closed g at was once a a lawsuit high-profile deputy shooting. deputies shot and killed 13-year-old andy lopez. investigators later determined he was holding a replica bb gun. deputies thought it was real.

the family filed a civil suit. the u.s. supreme court recently allowed the suit to proceed. according to "the press democrat," it is possible supervisors are debating a settlement, but no one is tipping their hand. did you see this? big waves are still putting on quite the show. the show best seen from a very safe distance. some people checking out those waves from the parking lot at nick's restaurant in rockaway beach last night got soaked. others ran for cover just in time. >> i saw it coming. i knew to run. >> people from all over the area are coming to pacifica or half moon bay to watch all the surfing or whatever, the waves, and it's just crazy. >> luckily, no one was inside the lighthouse hotel banquet room yesterday when those waves crashed through the window there. that room is yellow tagged and that walkway around there is roped off. waves also ripped off part of the hotel'fa >> really dangerous to be that close to the water. and then as we start out this morning, kind of dangerous to

see this dense fog that's developing in the north bay. so watching out for that with our live camera in san rafael, looking at 101, and then as you head across the bay area, we're going to see an increase in cloud cover, watching this system moving in, that will keep those waves churned up for the coast and bring in some rain farther to the north, so i'm watching those showers that may move in to santa rosa, and areas to the north. ukiah may see that rain off and on, no the only ft only for thet continuing in the afternoon and evening hours and gradually tapers off tonight as fog develops around the bay area. i'll have more in a few minutes and vianey overall the bay area, we have couple issues on the road. slowing in the east bay. if you're driving along southbound 880, head out now. right now we have delays. if you are along the westbound 80 side, all the way from the bay bridge toll plaza, we're seeing traffic backed up through the macarthur maze. the reason for that as well an earlier stall d so definitely e to see the metering lights on.

facebook, twitter and other services during the american presidential campaign. we gave you a heads up about this yesterday. we have our own copies thi inte committee had commissioned researchers at oxford and columbia universitys to write the reports. it contains proof messages like these came from russians. some urged people not to vote, many urged them to vote for trump and others deepen cultural divides, particularly racial divides. among the takeaways, russians sent out pro-trump or anti-clinton messages, never the opposite. in other words, there was a concerted effort to get trump elected. once he was elected, there was a surge of anti-mueller ads and posts trying to end that investigation. instagram played a much bigger role than we first realized, and there was a big effort on facebook to keep african-americans from voting. the ncaacp calling for a week-long boycott of facebook for its role in all of this.

the other really important point, researchers say silicon valley companies dragged their feet, not helping the senate investigators, not helping the the report particularly points out google's youtube as especially unhelpful. we of course saw a silicon valley executives questioned on the hill, and they certainly acted as if they were ready to help, but that help was less than forthcoming, according to data, sometimes no data at all. really one of three possibilities here. one is that they didn't take the senate inquiry seriously. the other -- probably not, right? the other one is they took it seriously, but when they handed over the data, did so incompetently. >> weren't prepared. >> you think google, facebook? do they have something to hide? >> we'll see. >> thanks, scott. 6:16 for you right now. happening today, another amazon store is opening in the bay area and it will be on post street, in san francisco, and instead of standing in line and paying the cahoutr,he store, af

ewhere around the bay area, as you make your way to the fruitvale b.a.r.t. station, it's going to be one with a light jacket needed, some low 50s, as you step out the door. partly cloudy skies, headed into the upper 50s going into the rest of the morning, and early afternoon. it's about time to wake up the kids, if they're getting ready to head out around the tri valley. we're seeing some patches of fog. otherwise, temperatures in the low 40s and then at 10:00, we'll be at 49 degrees, and reaching into the upper 50s by the last school bell. if you're about to get up and get your hair styled for the day, it's going to be a damp one. i think it's more of a frizzy hair day, because our humidity levels at 97% will be drying out headed into the afternoon, but not for some of our far northern towns, like ukiah, santa rosa. you'll start to see some of this rain moving in, and the rest of the bay area will see partly to mostly cloudy skies, and this is the way it looks, this is how ourgo rar spotty rain moving through. here we are at 2:00 this hour by hour, seeing some of the

afternoon, seeing that rain approaching ukiah, and it's going to continue into the afternoon through evening hours, eventually reaching santa rosa, but that looks to be the southern extent of some of the rain that we'll see, and then clearing out for the overnight hours. so our temperatures will stay in the upper first and low 60s. fog back tomorrow morning, and then we'll also see another chance of rain, but this one also looks to mostly stay in the north bay on friday. by sunday, we'll have a better chance of more widespread rain and i know raider fans, you're watching that christmas eve forecast. it looks like we will see some showers moving through, but i'll keep you up to date with the timing on that, as we get a limb bit closer. right now, it's time to head out the door. how is the commute looking? >> we've got a couple of issues, if you are approaching the macarthur maze and the bay bridge toll plaza, overall look, sore spot is you're issues no westbound 880 in san pablo, and

it looks like we might be getting somewhere. here is how it all started. the better business bureau in san jose told us it logged more than 300 complaints from customers just in october but yeezy wasn't responding to them so we did a story about it and so did our sister station in l.a. buyers expressed frustration with their unfulfilled orders. we never got a response from e yeezy, or kanye, for that matter. i tweeted kanye a few times and we never got a response. the better business bureau says yeezy has finally responded to them. they have a meeting with yeezy scheduled for today. we asked to attend, but were turned down. still, we see a glimmer here, because the complaints have not stopped. another 189 upset yeezy customers grouped to in november. the total for this year now exceeds 700. we'll let you know what comes out of that meeting. if you have trouble with yeezy or any other company, let us know, 888-996-chtips os. 6:24 right now. seismologists are reportedly linking gushing water from the oroville dam spillway to a small

set of earthquakes days after the spillway just cracked. you'll recall the spillway became damaged during heavy storms nearly two years ago. thousands of people nearby had to be evacuated. california sits in the highest risk of wildfire zones and that adds up to more than a million structures. the "l.a. times" crunched the numbers based on maps drawn by the cdf, and spotlighting the most vulnerable areas. the new findings come in the wake of california's most destructive fire season on record. in paradise alone, 86 people died.rned about santa clara county's takeover of two south bay hospitals are organizing a rally today. the county is taking over o'connor hospital in san jose and st. louise regional hospital in gilroy, that also includes the dupaul health center in morgan hill. they were owned by variety health, until the county stepped in to save the facilities. nurses are concerned about preserving a fair labor deal. they're rallying ahead of today's supervisor's meeting. >> it is 6:33. tasers are supposed to be safer for suspects and law enforcement, but now three

taser-related deaths are prompting the san mateo county board of supervisors to take a close look at the less lethal devices. "today in the bay's" sharon katsuda joins us live in redwood city to tell us how the board is responding. and what they are proposing. >> reporter: good morning, laur report that could show whether th the october, when deputies responded case. the latest case occurred last and used a taser on shenad shenadu okobi. the sheriff's department says he was walking in and out of traffic when the deputy stopped him. the department said okobi assaulted the deputy which called for backup. okobi later died. the family reportedly says he was only walking on the sidewalk and are seeking usin this case. the district attorney says he has been more specific with the coroner, after receiving results in two previous cases that involved the use of tasers. >> i have personally asked the

the fda says teens' addiction to vaping is becoming a problem. giant spike in the number of high school students who are vaping, it finds many may not realize they're almost certainly inhaling highly addictive nicotine. the surgeon general is holding another news conference today, discussing the dangers of ecigarette use among young people. >> we have an epidemic rise in definitely dangerous product to young people, why we're focusing so much attention onhe >> the fda will hold a public hearing in january on potential products to help teens kick their use of ecigarettes and other tobacco products. and recently, san francisco vaping company juul labs came under investigation by the massachusetts attorney general for targeting minors. the fda recently asked juul to provide any documents about its product, marketing and research into the health efforts of its products.

adviser all face prison terms. the president tweeted "good luck" and repeated his mantra, "no collusion." flynn faces prison time. one of the defenses raised by the flynn camp is general flynn didn't know it was illegal to lie to federal agents. prosecutors find that idea ridiculous. a sitting national security adviser, former head of an intelligence agency, retired lieutenant general and 33-year veteran of the armed forces knows he should not lie to federal agents, they told the court. that sentencing should come at 8:00 a.m. our time. flynn will be allowed to make a statement. the judge in the case is rather verbose as well. we should have a lot to tell yo. african-americans from voting. the russian agency posted more than a thousand pro-trump videos to youtube and looking into

paypal and instagram. the reports also show the efforts didn't stop with the election. once robert mueller became a threat, the russian efforts turned to anti-mueller efforts, trying to discredit the man investigating the president. it also says silicon valley companies dragged their feet when it came to helping the investigation. google's youtube in particular, one of the senate committee's reports says google's data contribution was by far the most limited in context and least comprehensive. we'll be watching the flynn around you, scott. new estimated to weigh just under a ton at a new zealand beach. she's not going anywhere. this one is a biggie. rangers believe the seal is a female and think she's just resting on the beach, she's lounging. rangers are warning people to keep a safe distance from her, friendly. >> hmm.

big and beautiful. >> that's a nice way to put it. let's look at the forecast right now. >> yes, let's move on. we're going to start out with some patches of fog around the bay area. as you get ready to head out, and here is a look at our view from our sutro tower camera, looking at the golden gate bridge. as of now, no fog, but we've seen it really piling up in the north bay, as our visibility has been reduced down to about half a mile. for napa, santa rosa, and some of those patches, visibility is very low. imsent out a picture, retweeted a picture from napa police showing dense fog in parts of the north bay. as you get ready to head out in visibility there, but cool temperatures, only in the mid-40s to start. we'll be at 53 degrees at 10:00, reaching into the low 60s today. it's going to be nice after this cool start, a live look in downtown san jose, and as you get dressed this morning, you do need a jacket, and you'll bes

or some jeans, ande' 50s, the l today. temperatures very much like yesterday, with the mix of sun and clouds. what we will see a lot more clouds, even a chance of rain farther to the north. so we're seeing some of the showers move through eureka, and then that will be approaching ukiah, as we go into the afternoon. and that storm also pushing up some high waves, as we have seen storm system after storm system moving over the pacific. today we're looking at waves that are now at about 12 to 15 feet but could reach as high as 20 to 30 feet so still dangerous out there. today, high surf aisome of thos spotty showers, moving into ukiah, here we are at 2:30 this afternoon. you'll see some of that rain moving in there, also for santa rosa, right in time for the evening commute. so some of that wet weather moving there, and that's the southern extent of the rain that we'll see today, so the rest of the bay area stays dry. more fog tomorrow morning, and then again on thursday, with our high temperatures reaching in the low 60s.

13-year-old andy lopez. investigators later determined he was holding a replica bb gun. the family filed a civil suit. the u.s. supreme court recently allowing it to proceed. according to "the press democrat" it's possible supervisors are debating a settlement, but no one is tipping their hand. many are calling it a sliver of hope in a battle to solve california's homeless crisis. the latest federal count finds california's homeless population fell slightly over the past year, just under 130,000. that drop of about 1500 from the previous year, and also marks the largest dip numbers wise anywhere in the u.s. nationally, the numbers of homeless stayed about the same. happening today, walnut creek set to vote on allowing a delivery robot pilot program to continue. the deal was originally signed with starship technologies about a year ago. according to city reports, so far, the robots have rolled and delivered nearly 900 miles with no delivery issues.
