6:18 am
i did not know any of those things. >> you watch "today in the bay" or anchor "today in the bay" you learn a lot more. >> yes. learn a new thing every day when you watch us. let's learn about the weather today. >> it looks great. the kids are going to wake up and get ready to head outside with their new toys, and we are going to get some sunshine today. although it starts out cool, they'll need some jackets on. as we get a look at our satellite radar, as the rain moves away, we're going to have some cool air rolling in behind a cold front that's passing and moving farther away from the bay area. as you check out the seven-day forecast coming up at the bottom of the screen, we are going to get a lot more sunshine. let's talk about the rain that fell yesterday evening in the santa cruz mountains, over an inch of rain. san jose had a quarter inch of rain. half inch in san mateo, danville measuring over an inch and in santa rosa about half an inch of rain. so there were parts of the bay area that got a decent soaking.
6:19 am
today is our chance to dry out, so walnut creek will have some mid-40s to start out during the morning, and then look at that, we're at 60 degrees by 1:00 to 2:00 today. great day to get outside as you get ready, maybe going to work this morning, a little extra hair spray needed, it will be windy and high humidity. checking out highs or for this afternoon, los gatos and co cupertino 56 degrees and breezy to start out the day. martinez headed up to 58 degrees and 58 also in half moon bay. 58 on the embarcadero and the north bay, upper 50s there as well. if you're planning to head out to christmas in the park, in downtown san jose, we've got some sunshine, breezy winds, and this time of year really doesn't get better than this, as we'll have comfortable weather and as we look at our forecast for the rest of the week, drying out, but our temperatures will be dropping and we will have the possibility of some freezing temperatures this weekend for the early hours, and then a slight chance of some showers
6:20 am
especially farther to the north on sunday, but the rest of the bay area looks pretty dry. christmas in the books today, and then we'll be heading toward new year's eve by the end of the forecast and we will also wrap up the year with some dry weather. as you get ready to head out this morning, here is a look at 58 580 in dublin. roads are wet and you can see the sheen as the headlights and cars drive past, may be kicking up water but the rain ended and as we look at sensors around the bay area, checking out the traffic maps, we've seen a lot of green indicating roads are flowing smoothly, a lot less people as you get ready to head out and the bridges are flowing withal. no issues about you it may still be windy. the wind advisories still in effect for the south bay, looking at san jose, you can see a little bit of yellow here and there, meaning that it may be slowing down in some spots possibly as you hit some of the puddles and our east bay drive times looking good, westbound 80 from highway 4 to the bay bridge about 14-minute drive for you this morning.
6:21 am
maybe you can leave a little bit later, compared to when you normally do, because you're not going to have any major issues, just slow it down, where you see some water over the roadways, and i'll have a look at our upcoming weather and traffic again for you coming up in a few minutes. >> we'll see you soon, kari, thanks. coming up on "today in the bay," it's a holiday tradition i didn't know about. new orleans helps light up the santa, we'll take you to the christmas eve festivities. >> merry christmas. now go shopping again. i'm consumer investigator chris chmura. we'll explain why a trip to the mall sooner rather than later might save you some gift card heartache. through yesterday evening, and we once again take a live look outside at christmas in the park, maybe this is where you'll be headed today, and after starting out with a few clouds and some wet roads this morning, we're going to get some sunshine going throughout the day. sunnyvale looking great as temperatures are right where they should be this time of year, reaching into the upper 50s, a few low 60s on the map for today. as you get ready to head out in san francisco, maybe going across the golden gate bridge, no fog, but the roads are still wet and we'll be tracking the potential of some of those slick roads this morning, as you drive around the bay area, but a lot of green sensors here on the traffic maps. no major issues. you just may have to slow down, where some water may be covering the roads. i'll have a look at what's ahead for the rest of the week, into the weekend, coming up in a few minutes. >> good looking at all that green, kari. we'll get back to some of the christmas activities happening around the bay. first we have breaking in us we need to get to. >> there's been a shooting not too far from san jose city
6:32 am
college and moments ago we are confirming this is an officer-involved shooting. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell has been working the scene for the last few hours. bob, what is the new information you just found out? >> reporter: kira enamarcus, police confirmed this was an officer-involved shooting in which one suspect died and another suspect was injured. we believe the two suspects were in a white vehicle that's beyond the police vans that you can see there in your foreground. that vehicle crashed into the fence at a school playground at the intersection of fruitdale and lee avenue. the shooting took place around 2:30 this morning and as you're about to hear a witness partially capture this on cell phone video. [ gunfire ] >> holy [ bleep ]! >> reporter: we did speak with that woman who shot the video. she says she is with her boyfriend, when the shots were fired, as i mentioned, around 2:30 this morning. she saw a white car crash into the fence of the playground here
6:33 am
at fruitdale and lee avenues, and then hit a police officer squad car. now, another squad car arrived to block in the suspect vehicle according to police, excuse me, according to the witness and on the video, you can hear what sounds like the officers yelling out commands. the witnesses say the suspect then backed up into a police car, and that's when the officers opened fire. as you heard in the video, there were several shots that were fired, and as we are just now confirming with police, one suspect is dead, another suspect is injured. again, it's not clear from police what led up to this interaction with these two people, but as you heard from the witness, it does appear the driver of the suspect vehicle did try to ram at least one police car. reporting live in san jose, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> bob, thank you so much for that update there. 6:33 right now. new for you this morning, an oakland police car is stolen, but then later recovered. the department is confirming that it happened last night. however, we're still working to try to find out where this was taken from, and how that car was

6:35 am
>>? it's a funeral. >> reporter: merlin edwards has been bringing his son here for two decades. >> now it's gone. it's gone. it's gone. that's it. that's all. >> reporter: and you're sad. >> i'm sad. i don't want them to go. i'm mad at them for leaving, but you know, it is what it is. >> reporter: the raiders are headed to vegas in two years. the city of oakland is suing the team over the move, which has the raiders angry and looking for anywhere but oakland to play next year, because their lease is up at the coliseum, and their new stadium won't be ready until 2020. the raiders are talking with the giants about possibly playing at at&t park, but some fans still aren't giving up. >> we're oakland. hopefully they stay one more year here at the coliseum. >> reporter: for now, many are savoring this game, clinging to the memories of games gone by, and some, like this fourth generation fan, say they'll follow this team wherever it goes. >> you not gonna stop us. it's not gonna happen. we gonna ride until the wheels fall off. >> reporter: i'm roz plater, "nbc bay area news."
6:36 am
an incoming san francisco supervisor isn't so keen on the idea of the silver and black making the move across the bay. matt hainey took to facebook saying the team's move to at&t park for that one year will be "a slap in the face to oakland." the raiders are retaliating against oakland for filing a lawsuit and allowing the team to play in san francisco would be rewarding them for bad behavior. at 6:36, the bay area holiday tradition that feeds thousands of families every year is happening again. >> the san francisco salvation army gives away a warm meal and volunteers are helping pack up literally a ton of food. "today in the bay's" thom jenson is live in the kitchen with how you can get involved. good morning, thom, merry christmas. >> reporter: good morning you guys, merry christmas. this is one of hundreds of boxes that will go out today, 20 meals in each one of the boxes.
