43 in san jose. 47 in oakland. we're not under a widespread microclimate alert, but we're under a regional microclimate alert. so the north bay mountains and the hill top areas above 1,000 feet are seeing windy conditions. napa, 26 miles per hour. everywhere else the winds are beginning to diminish. we're seeing breezier conditions. there's a wind advisory in effect. this is for hills above 1,000 feet. this will remain in place through 10:00 a.m. today. after 10:00 a.m., we're expecting winds to really begin to die down. as far as the microclimate wind advisory for the lower elevations, that was canceled last night at 9:00 p.m. expected to see gusty conditions, mainly in the hills. let's check your traffic. great start this morning. i hope everyone took our advice, the overall advice of don't drink and drive. we have a nice speed sensor of

green, no major accidents to report. i usually play this game during the holidays of how many cars i can count. there's one. one person out on the roads on the golden gate bridge. these people had to get up in the middle of the night. breaking news in san jose. an old victorian home near downtown going up in flames. this morning the people who live in the home are starting out the new year sadly with no place to live. that fire started about 3:00 in the morning on 5th street near juli julian. our photographer was was told there were units inside. people there were forced to get out. we don't know how many units were destroyed. tom is gathering more information. he'll have a live report at 5:00 a.m. as the wind continues to whip through the bay area, thousands were left in the dark in valeo.

there were two outages in that city. glenn cove area was the hardest hit. we caught up with shoppers last night turned away because of the power outage. >> we have a lot of customers who had preordered stuff, but we can't even cook it now. >> i hope it comes back up before long. wish us luck. >> no word on when all the power will be back on. also this morning strong winds likely played a role in a deadly boating accident in san francisco bay yesterday afternoon. a sail boat capsized near sausalito. rescuers pulled a man and woman from the water. only the woman survived. neither was wearing a life jacket. investigators are trying to determine how a body ended up in a landfill east of livermore. deputies were called to the

facility yesterday afternoon. they're not saying if the body is that of a man or a woman or the cause of death. it was likely the body was placed in the trash in another city and transported to the landfill where workers discovered it. 2019 is here and new laws always come with the new year. sam brock explains what changes there are today. >> the me too movement was more than a cult waural awakening, i was a signal to act. >> california will take the lead for the rest of the nation to show how robust sexual harassme harassment legislation can be. >> it addresses some of the

under a region microclimate weather alert. we expect the hour-by-hour wind forecast to start showing those winds diminishing shortly after 10:00 a.m. right about 5:30, the winds and gusty conditions are heavily focused in the north bay. fast forwarding that timeline, we begin to diminish around 9:00. look at the south bay, we fall into the breezy category. 10 to 20 miles per hour winds are expected throughout the afternoon. your microclimate highs, we will be very, very cool once again. 53 in san jose. 57 in concord. san francisco, 55. the bay area skies will once again be extremely clear. talking plenty of sunshine, beautiful weather. windy at times. dry start to the new year. some areas saw some frost this

bridge. i'm on a four count right now. >> four cars total since the newscast began. thank you. new year could mean a new and potentially richer you. the mega millions jackpot has jumped 4$415 million. that makes it the eighth largest jackpot in history. it's been a record breaking year. in october you will remember there's a 1$1.5 billion pot up for grabs. that ticket has yet to come forward. friday was the last drawing of 2018. nobody matched all six numbers. so the pot rolls over to tonight's big drawing. been a difficult year in the north bay for fires. more than 40 people lost their lives. >> this morning features an 89-year-old cowboy and the cow that means the world to him. >> we first introduced viewers to glenn evans in march. i think i described him as a cowboy from the tip of his hat to the bottom of his boots. that's been the case his whole

life, but nothing else about glenn's life has been the same since last year's north bay wildfires. that is until one day this past october. the fire that one year ago destroyed glenn evans' santa rosa ranch was insatiable, unstoppable and unfailingly cruel. >> where the flowers are planted are where my son and i found my wife's remains the next morning. a and -- >> not only did it his his wife t consumed anything that might help him remember their 45 years together. well, almost everything. >> come on, angel. >> reporter: spared in the fire was valerie's favorite animal, a 16-year-old 1,600 pound texas long horn cow named angel.

>> you silly girl. >> reporter: over the past year glenn visited angel every single day in her temporary home in pen grove, nothing was more important to him than getting angel back into her favorite pasture alongside highway 101. >> she means everything to me. right now, it brings my wife back to me in a nice way. >> but with no water, no power, no fencing or barn, glenn was going to need help fixing up the property enough to bring his four-legged two-horned friend home. good thing then that unbeknownst to glenn angel had a fan club. standing alongside 101 for the past 15 years, angel had become a fixture to the thousands of commutes who passed her every single day. when they learned she survived the fire but needed help to come home, well -- >> they have lined up in droves to help us get her home.

groping him two years ago. spacey's lawyer tried to get him out of the arraignment but the judge denied that. spacey pleaded not guilty. sad news involving a raiders legend. the son of raiders star george atkinson died unexpectedly. josh atkinson was just 26 years old. no details have been released on what led up to his death. his twin brother broke the news on social media the atkinson twins, josh and george iii both starred at livermore's granada high. their father played ten yeared with the ra years with the raiders. look at this video out of bodega bay. a new year's eve hike ended in a rescue mission. a tourist was enjoying the school house beach views when he suffered a medical emergency at the bottom of a 50-foot cliff.
