from senator lindsey graham who sometimes has the ear of the president. he says if president trump gives in on the shutdown, his presidency is probably over. if he's hearing that from the right flank, what incentive does he have to deal? and the democrats made clear they don't want to deal. >> the president, it's funny, remember the infamous chuck and nancy the first time he almost cut a deal with chuck and nancy, the first time daca for the wall, the legislation to protect dreamers, those kids brought here by their parents illegally. when the president supported that or appeared to support that for a couple days, his base went crazy. i don't think he thinks he can move that all. so the president is convinced with what lindsey graham said. i don't think that's true. it is only true if you believe it. but in this case, the president does believe this and so if that's what he's believing, then you tell me what his incentive is to somehow compromise. >> no, no. we ask the questions here, chuck.

>> i worked so hard, and i did everything i could do to get ready and be prepared. >> when the 18-year-old honor student first took the sat she got a 900. she took it again and received a 1230, a 330 point improvement. testing officials called the results too improved, citing substantial agreement between her answers and those of other test takers, marking her scores at invalid and creating an investigation. she is now threatening legal action, working with a civil rights attorney. >> this little girl had did everything she could. she had followed all the rules, and then she's still told that she is not legitimate. >> trump is calling on the college board and the private company to validate her scores within two weeks so she could meet college application scores. >> if they don't release her

information, it's new, about a woman being investigated as part of this case. steve patterson is in colorado for us with the latest. steve, good morning. >> good morning. look, authorities have been tight lipped about what exactly led them to charging patrick with first degree murder, but they may be closer to answering how exactly his cell phone was found 800 miles away in idaho. >> patrick appeared for his daughter's custody hearing on thursday amid questions about his relationship with a woman from idaho. law enforcement is now looking at a 32-year-old nurse who possibly disposed of her phone. the last sign of life from a colorado mom last seen thanksgiving day shopping with her one-year-old daughter. the woman is from twin falls, idaho. the twin falls sheriffs office confirming to nbc news they have served search warrants in the case.

traffic on northbound 880 in fremont is re-ope and good morning to you. 8:26. i'm marcus washington. traffic open northbound 880 in kn freemont is reopen. police say a man was hit while walking across the freeway right near the s at ts at the tesla f plant. other drivers also struck that man. video showing how badly that backup was for drivers. the accident was discovered around 4:00 a.m. as investigators got evidence, crews cleared the scene. chp says they're talking to one of the drivers who hit the man but they're still looking for the driver who made the initial impact. mike was been following this. what's the latest? >> it's completely clear, thank goodness.

hilaria, welcome. you said just a few minutes a day. is that for real? >> yeah. before kids, i was able to go to gym for long periods of time. now, i can't. i do little minutes throughout the day. found moment workouts, i do on my instagram. all of it adds up. you feel good and it's great. >> we have three to show us, right? >> three exercises. three guinea pigs right here. the first one -- exactly. what's the first one? >> the first one, hips are a big deal. whether you are superactive like me or you sit all day, at a desk. working your hips in the morning is important. you have your hip flexors. it connects to your lower back. if you have lower back pain, this can be the reason why. >> what do you do? >> i'm in my heels. don't do it in your heels at home. my socks aren't very cute. if you lean forward, do you feel that? >> i went to the gym for the first time in a long time. i'm very sore. >> day four.

shortbread cookies from allison roman. they went viral last year. we made them and loved them. this was back in april. now, she's got a new recipe that's taken over instagram. this is chickpea stew. thousands of people have been making this at home and posting their versions online, using #thestew. and the craze, adding another viral recipe to allison's resume. we're excited she's here. >> allison, what is it? people post recipes all the time and they don't go viral. you've had two so far. what is it about the stew that did that? >> i don't know. somebody posted it for the first time and called it #thestew. i can't take credit for that. as a joke, i promoted other people that would post it. and it snowballed. >> is it a stew? or is it a soup? there's some debate going on. >> you tell me. i feel like it's thick. >> it's stewy. >> what do we do? >> we're going to saute onions,

garlic, ginger. because it's a stew, you don't have to get anything too perfect. you're going to cook that down until it's nice and soft. add your spices like turmeric and chili. >> spices seem to really pack a punch. i love it. >> yeah. i like my food really spicey. to me, this is -- you can add as much or as little as you want. if you're having it at my house, it's spi ee's spicy. salt and pepper. this is the most important thing where people get excited about it. once this is soft, you add your chickpeas. this is two cans. they are rinsed and drained. >> you have to dry them off? >> i don't dry them off. >> can you get chickpeas crispy? >> and there's debate about people wondering if they're crispy enough. some people put them in the obvious. i go with a frizzled frazzled chickpea. >> why don't you name it

frazzled chickpea stew. >> it's hard to get the hash tag to go viral. >> you're really looking to brown and get the skin of the chickpea crispy. once it gets to that stage, you take some out. that's for the top. and you're going to crush them. that makes the stew so creamy and makes it a stew and not a soup. >> you crush them around. >> there's no real technique to say. >> it's not a lot of butter and cream. >> here comes the cream. >> no. it's coconut milk. it's vegan. that's a lot of coconut milk. it's two cans. if you skimp on the cans of coconut milk -- >> that's just broth. you can use chicken broth, vegetable broth. >> is this full fat -- >> full fat coconut milk.

>> that's fine. >> is it on the mid traediterra diet? >> it's on the chickpea diet. >> i'm going to put some chips, like a dip, too. >> from there, you add greens. you can use kale, swiss chard, greens, whatever you want. >> how long do you keep the greens in there? >> 30 seconds. just to wilt. >> is that sour cream or yogurt? >> that's yogurt. and yourispy chickpeas on top. i like mint and yogurt and turmeric is great together. >> would it be vie gegan if you bacon on it? >> no. but you can omit the yogurt. it's like comfort food but
