file for bankruptcy. pag' pg&e's announcement not unexpected. it comes on the heels of its ceo, geisha williams. that announcement game yesterday. the utility has been grappling with the fact it may be on the hook for billions of dies tied to recent wildfires. this is the second time pg&e filed for bankruptcy. you may recall it did the exact same thing in 2001 when energy markets were deregulated and bailout talks collapsed with the state of california. in that case, pg&e emerged from bankruptcy three years later. kris sanchez will have a live report at 5:00 a.m. our investigative unit has been reporting extensively with pg&e for the past six years. we first told you about the utility's questionable relationship with regulators at the cupc and our unit broke the news about pg&e's maintenance issues with power lines in bute

on friday but it was a positive week overall. on today's watch list, earnings season gets under way with numbers from citi group. retail news, sears will hold a bankruptcy auction for its assets today. the proceedings start at 10:00 a.m. behind closed doors in a law firm in new york city. last week eddie lampert submitted a revised $5 billion offer that would keep 425 sears and kmarts open and up to 50,000 employees working. it's unclear how that bid stacks up against others which are mostly from liquidation firms. if the bid loses, it is possible k kenmore and diehard could live on. shipping news. fedex is testing residential delivery of bulky products. that's something that was traditionally left tow trucking companies because large items don't fit well into a courier center. that would be offered through

we're seeing that offshore right now. let's see if that can make its way inland. here's a look at our temperatures. as you get ready to step out the door, we're from 38 in ukiah to 53 in oakland. a wide range in temperatures. heading towards martin to mostly cloudy skies. we may head into the low to mid umbrella. let's time out the rain for you today. we'll see some of those showers starting to work over the santa cruz mountains and into the rest of the bay area. as we go through 8:00, 9:00. by 11:00. some bouts of heavy rain. by 2:00, much cles actiless act. this evening that rain will taper off. there will be another wave of rain moving in by tomorrow morning. we'll be in and out of the rain not only today but tomorrow and pretty much all of this work

week we'll see showers and possibly a few thunderstorms moving through. we are looking at some of other rainfall totals. very light0. inches. much lighter for the tri valley. santa cruz mountains may rack up a decent amount of rain. about a half inch or less for the north bay. a stronger storm system moving in wednesday into thursday. that could bring not only heavy rain but high winds. highs reaching into the upper 50s and low 60s all week long. it's just going to be wet off and on as waves of rain and gusty winds move through the bay area. heing over to mike. you've been tracking the roads. any issues yet? >> very light. whatever was in the roadway at sfo, that cleared without incident. we see maybe some rain or puddles left over from earlier

rain, but right now calm. westbound 530, reports of a disabled vehicle the slow lane. chp knows about it and should be there any second. that is the only incident on the grid. a nice easy drive through the maze. we'll get you a live look towards the at moltamont area, is in dublin. we had a disabled vehicle reported aroundivstations, no ph easy drive.apal corridor as well as the rest of the agencies. caltrans back from weekend work. we are learning mr. about what happened to the aeromexico plane after that flight was diverted from sfo to oakland last thursday. passengers were forced to stay on that plane for more than three hours.

two passengers were detained. >> reporter: instead of landing in san francisco, danny calderon and his wife found themselves stuck in a hot airplane after their aeromexico flight was diverted to oakland international because of fog. he says hours later, passengers were still trapped in the plane and flight attendants ignored their pleas for food and water. he even explained he was diabetic and had low blood sugar. he said children were crying and some passengers were hyperventilating. in the back that passed out. unconscious. and one of the women on the plane dialled 911. said we have a couple of passengers in distress. >> he says finally sheriff's deputies came on board and took one man out in handcuffs. he said he was shocked when they turned to him. >> he asked me to stand up and said we are detaining you.

a federal judge in the bay area is 4:52 right now in the east bay overlooking oakland. it looks like lots of folks are up and out the door early this morning. get a jump on that day. a full look at the morning commute with mike in a moment. a federal judge in the bay area blocking the trump administration from allowing employers to opt out of providing birth control. the rule was supposed to take effect today. but a judge yesterday granted a request for a preliminary injunction requested by california and 12 other states. the rule would allow employers to opt out of free birth control for women on religious or moral ground. while the rule is blocked and we judge did not improve an injunction nationwide. a possible major break in trying to determine what brought

down an indonesian jetler search crews have found the voice recorder. 189 people were on board that plane and died. if the v undamaged, it may provide valuable information. crews recovered the cockpit daae recorder a few days after the crash. it looks like this year's flu season will be milder than last year. it's still relatively early in the season, most flu patients are cashing the less serious strain. this year's vaccine seems to also be more effective. the cdc says if the trend continues there will be few fewer flu deaths. last year there were about 80,000 flu deaths reported in the u.s. the ending still yet to be written in this story, a kansas city homeless man trying to help a guy stuck in the snow. >> that guy plays for the chiefs berth.t week plays for a super

on saturday jeff allen was on his way to the chiefs playoff game at arrowhead stadium. that's when his car got stuck on the highway. dave cochran lives in his suv along with his girlfriend and dog. they saw allen and helped free him up from that snow. after the chiefs won the game, allen used social media to track that man down, then he actually gave the couple two tickets to next sunday's afc championship game. >> he told me he was a chiefs player. i didn't look at him as a chiefs player, just a normal person hoping he would do the same for me. >> cochran says he started crying when he heard that he would be getting those tickets. allen says he did have a hard time locating cochran from a sudden spike of replies from the kansas city area. that's cool. >> that will be interesting to see what he does. you know, here it would be

>> i'm laura garcia. welcome. thanks for joining us. it's early. the rain is coming later today? >> we will see some rain. if you're heading out the door, make sure you grab the umbrella. we see it off the coast, as we look at our stormranger mobile doppler radar. most of us start out with some dry weather. we have this system that will be rolling closer. we could even see some lightning strikes. 8:00, 9:00, those showers could be moving in. we'll check out the rest of the forecast coming up. >> there may be a change in the commute later on with that rain. off the screen and below us is san jose and silicon valley. it is coming into the area late morning commute. that will be a factor as more folks tend to hit the south bay at about that time.
