bring you the latest. the storm has kind of moved through, this is the aftermath. we went on early this morning at 4:00 this morning. i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. a lot of people need to be mindful of that heading out. talk about that rain, kari. it's moved out for the most part. are we going to see more rain. >> some scattered showers moving through. you may watch in mendocino county because we have a lot of thunder and lightning we're picking up with storm rangers, mobile doppler radar. we're still going to have a chance of a few isolated thunderstorms as we go throughout the day. you can still see a lot of clouds and rain across the region. it hasn't quite moved out of the area yet. that's why we're keeping storm chances in the forecast. north bay to early afternoon. while we are going to get a chance to dry out, we're still going to keep those rain chances in the forecast farther to the north, even through tomorrow morning. let's check out some of our rainfall totals.

we have quite a bit for parts of the santa cruz mountains. we had up to 2 to 5". el sobrante measured 2" in san anselmo. the reason we're dealing with a threat of fooding, you had over 3" of rain, san francisco an hirsch and a half, pallet alt, 1.3, san jose 1 downtown 25. i'm sti -- 1.25. i'm still adding rain totals. we'll talk about the rest of the day. heading over to mike. you still have a problem getting to nimitz. >> this is oakland, perhaps you're taking dumbarton bridge over from fremont area. that's not a good idea. you want for the time being to true this bridge. that is inaccessible off the dumbarton bridge at least directly. the speed sensors show you how light traffic is. a couple of patches of flooding calling up as folks call in and report it, crews repair it.

we'll see that continue to change. eastbound 84 cut off for joining northbound 880. fremont. take the exit and join back over on fremont boulevard. there's an overturned big rig going on. cleanup continues but they have had to close all lanes. a little flooding 288 and 87. you have so much going on there. hand it back. >> we do. our microclimate weather alert continues. we're actually seeing a lot of damage in the santa cruz mountains. that storm leading to mudslides also bringing down trees. >> kris sanchez live near highway 18. the thing is, there's been several mudslides. >> reporter: yes, several. we just came down from the summit. this is highway 17 not too far from the cats. we're in that parking lot. crews are working to clear the mudslide right around the midnight hour.

one of the lanes shut down. take a look at the video at the scene. the mudslide came down west of summit road completely shutting down the roadway. no sign of power lines down. folks headed to santa cruz, northbound lanes are okay. there was a larger mudslide. this one on skyline. just west on skyline road. the roadway was completely shut down and crews are just starting to make some headway there. but we understand that it is going to be a pretty big cleanup and traffic is shut down in both directions. now, the mudslide where we were here earlier, this was near between los gatos and bear creek road. i misspoke earlier. you can tell it is going to be a difficult commute for folks who are driving through the santa cruz mountains. i'll tell you, no matter where you're driving around the bay area, keep your eyes open for debris. watch for speed. we've seen a lot of stuff on the

rerps, roadways, a lot of leaves, branches because those winds were so strong all night long. kris sanchez "today in the bay." >> the storm is gone but you need to be very cautious. thanks a lot. also in santa cruz mountains, the storm sent two large trees down. take a look here. this is a video just into the newsroom. this happened just after 12:30 this morning near idyllwild road just off of highway 17. crews are using chain saws as you can see and hear to clear the road. >> tens of thousands of people without power. at one point overnight more than 80,000 lost electricity. now about half that number. this is a look at pg&e's website, all those spots without power right now. most of the power outages so far are in the north bay. >> "today in the bay" tom jenson live for us there.

tom. marcus, we're just off highway 101 northbound at irwin street in san rafael. as you can see the road is closed here. it has been closed for several hours now with trees down all along irwin street here. pg&e worker on the scene as we drove up this morning warned us not to get any closer saying the lines on the ground, some still across the road here, especially at irwin street and bell avenue may still be hot. there were more than 80,000 customers without power as laura was just saying but that's now down to just over 35,000 across the bay area. about half of them, though, up here in the north bay. nearly 17,000 customers. it has been more of the same across the bay area. always a danger up here. the high winds like we had overnight. the top of a large tree down the street here, we saw it broke off here on irwin just missing a

home, a car, and more power lines. and as you get up and get around this morning, you're going to want to be careful because we've noticed a lot of that as we drove around. not just the big trees coming down on power lines, but as kris was talking about in the santa cruz mountains limbs and trees falling across the roadways. this is a small one compared to what we've seen. you really need to be careful. can do a lot of damage to your car, possibly cause another accident we have seen and heard about, a lot of accidents in the north bay. live in san rafael thom jensen, "today in the bay." turning roadways into rivers in some places as well. a car floating away in sonoma county overnight. a normally busy intersection at schellville. it backs up when the creek did

holland at cnbc global headquarters. here are today's top business headlines. wall street set to open lower. the dow up more than 100 points on the back of strong quarterly earnings from goldman sachs and bank of america. on today's watch list, a report on housing starts and the number of people filing for unemployment. also earnings from morgan stanley and netflix. elon musk says tesla will end its customer referral program on february 1st. it's really too costly. the popular program that started in 2015 gave new buyers six months of free super charging. that's the owners who made referrals were given a chance to get big rewards, such as $250,000 next generation roadster or sending laser x photo in space aboard the rocket. big news for parents out there. gymboree has filed for bankruptcy for the second time in less than two years. the company says it will close more than 800 gymboree and crazy eight stories and sell its

semitrucks are not being allowed eastbound i believe at applegate. we're getting updates on that now. snowplows and snowplow workers, boy, are they going to be busy up there. the rain passed through here but snow up there. >> blizzard conditions up there. that's the mountains we're talking about. but along the coast this morning there's also flood concerns as strong winds kick up powerful waves. >> "today in the bay" pete suratos with conditions there. hopefully you're not too close. >> good morning to you, laura and marcus. yes, pretty dry. a bit windy and cold at the pacifica pier. of course you have the high surf warning that's going to kick in enabout 15 minutes. the good news, there's no flooding here. we haven't heard any issues with flooding as a result of that rain last night. you can see there behind me the waves typical of this time of the morning. the surf warning is going to start roughly at 5:00 a.m. we

can expect to see breakers anywhere between 25 to 40 feet along the coastline. as you guys mentioned, there's also that coastal flooding advisory for folks along the coastline in those low-lying areas starting at 5:00 a.m. as well. that's expected to be minor flooding if we see the flooding in those areas. i did get a chance to speak to folks early about the weather conditions. one in particular mentioned he's without power this morning due to the weather. >> i don't think the brunt of the ocean here. i know it's bad over here, but i'm over here because i have no power in the back. >> my aunt, she lives on the flat ground, so i know there's always the issue of the flood. they always come to my house basically, our our area. >> take you back to the waves at pacifica pier. no flooding issues but there's an advisory in place shortly. a high surf warning in place at 5:00 a.m. ending at 5:00 p.m. -

coastal flood advisory starting at 5:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m. pete suratos, "today in the bay." >> a lot of times, i'm going to stay away. no surfing this morning. >> but you know a lot of surfers here that and say, let's go. let me show you the high waves. high surf warping in effect. waves to 45 feet, that is just dangerous. here is a look at the map as you get ready to start out this morning. once again it continues through the evening. because of the high coastal waves that might cause the bay to flood. you're seeing green shading that includes bay and also low-lying areas that may also flood because of the high waves and water. i'm watching for the flood

warning for the next 30 minutes. then we'll see if it gets extended for sonoma county. that's on the petaluma river and creeks and streams that flood into that there may be rising water. make sure you keep an eye on that. tracking thunderstorms through mendocino county, approaching ukiah in the next few minutes. otherwise across the bay area, storm ranger showing we do have fairly quiet conditions especially compared to what we had let's say about 10 to 12 hours ago. a lot of the heavier rain now focused on southern california. you can see the lightning strikes there. a chance of storms as we go into the rest of the day. i'm still keeping rain chances in the forecast for parts of the north bay as we go into the 8:00 to 9:00 hour. you see some of the rain passing through there. still spotty showers for parts of east bay and south bay but the main story will be winds calming town and our rain chances going down as well. but we still could measure up

additional are of maybe up to very light amounts up to a tenth of an inch for parts of the east bay as well as south bay and peninsula. the north bay getting a little bit more with ukiah getting another inch of rain. that's on top of all the rain you've already seen. for the oakland hills we've gotten close to an inch and a half, the same in morgan hill. pacifica measuring an inch and a half of rain there. in danville, an inch and three quarters. campbell measuring 1.5". we have extraordinary wind gusts big rock ridge. near novato, marin county, 98-mile-an-hour gust. 86 sunol grade had a wind gust of 68 miles per hour. even at the airport some low-lying areas we had gusts up to 61 and in san jose 44 miles per hour. so the main thing once again will be to watch the impacts of

that storm that moved through and still some storm chances for today. i'm going to keep a slight chance of rain in the forecast for the north bay tomorrow morning and partly to mostly cloudy skies. saturday looking dry. sunday another quick moving system to come in to bring us a few additional showers and drying out for martin luther king day on monday and some sunshine for the middle of next week. as we head over to mike, you are checking out some of those trouble spots. >> kari, we have a couple of trouble spots related to that weather. all that rain that came in and the wind. the first thing i'm pointing out besides these sensor reads in green is the full closure of 84. this is getting off dumbarton bridge. you cannot access northbound 880 from dumbarton bridge. you have to get off there. i would suggest off the exit, north boulevard to fremont boulevard. the reason being there's an overturned semitruck. been there since overnight. they are cleaning things up. the freeway and overpass until

they get lanes cleared. no update on chp timing. 288, 87, one of the usual suspects. a little slowing in the fast lane because we have flooding there. that's one of the blocks. we know highway 17 has a block. kris sanchez following it there. santa cruz tough there. highway 35 skyline closed over there. sanborn has a tree down an bear creek off highway 17 is inaccessible because of a tree down there as well, guys. back to you. >> thanks, mike. >> there are still flood concerns for coyote creek in south bay. >> flooded parts of san jose two years ago. this video shows damage as "today in the bay" reports the water district cleared the creek and controlled the dam that feeds into the creek to prevent it from happening again. >> reporter: as the rain pummeled the bay area, leading to localized flooding on roadways. >> this whole fence was knocked down. >> reporter: in central san jose eyes worrying look down to coyote creek. >> i actually left work a little

bit early to check on the level of the creek. >> reporter: his home backs up to coyote creek. it was heavily damaged in the 2017 san jose floods. a tree smashed his garage. but the first time he was worried it could happen again. >> when i heard flash flood warnin warnings, that really alarmed me, only because that was the only warning we had in 2017. >> the problem in 2017, anderson reservoir overflowed. the reservoir is only 25% full. >> there's plenty of room in anderson reservoir to capture stormwater. >> the water district installed a wall in the rocksprings neighborhood to prevent flooding and has done a thorough cleanup of coyote creek. as for suousa he's finishing up >> it's restored better than it

delivery disaster in san jose. a family got their furniture along with a hefty repair bill from their apartment nbc bay area responds to a delivery disaster in san jose. >> the family got furniture with a hefty repair bill from the apartment complex. consumer investigator chris chmura here to explain what happened. >> good morning. cynthia was looking forward to the arrival of her new bedroom set. she didn't expect this. that is her balcony and that's the damage she said the delivery truck did when it knocked several boards loose. the apartment management said she was responsible for the repairs which cost nearly $4,000. cynthia went ahead and paid it and asked the furniture store to reimburse her. they said they weren't responsible. they said the delivery service they hired was. cynthia said she went back and forth to the furniture store for 10 months, then she turned to us for help. we called the delivery service
