let's check in with vianey with a look at our sunday forecast. it's weird to think this is the last weekend of january and it's in the 60s. >> the weather is definitely not showcasing it self as winter weather. it's mild. >> we'll take it. >> it's pretty nice to go and enjoy and spend time outside without having to worry about whether it's too cold or not. it is a little chilly. 46 degrees in the south bay, peninsula 41. it's 40 degrees in the tri valley and we managed to dip down into a couple of 30s especially the north bay now at 41 degrees and we have more moisture in the air, which is why this morning we woke up to some patchy fog, especially right now in san francisco, 51 degrees. east bay 47, and here is a look at satellite radar. current conditions right now, you could see we've got some areas of high cloud cover, but we're not tracking any rain for today. we still have that high pressure dominating over the bay area. that's going to keep our temperatures mild but slightly above normal in some spots for this time of year. so even though it is the last weekend of january, our
7:19 am
temperatures are showcasing themselves as a peek into spring. let's look at long range outlook. we have our rain chances moving in on friday into next weekend. so go outside and enjoy it now, because it looks like we are monitoring a system that's going to move in from north to south, as early as friday, possibly even carrying over into your saturday and sunday plans. so we're still a little far out, so as far as rain totals and the timing of this, we have a ways to go before we can figure out exactly how much rain will fall from that, but so far, our temperatures today will top out into the upper 60s, low 70s, too, in gilroy, 70 degrees. san jose 68 and look at your east bay temperatures, 67 degrees for oakland, 66 for walnut creek and down through pleasanton in through livermore also in the upper 60s. it might be breezier along the peninsula. it will be one of those days again where we get filtered sunshine. it looks a little cloudy but still sunny. san mateo 6 degrees. in the city 66 for mission.
7:20 am
marina 65 and up through the north bay 70 degrees for santa rosa. talk about great weather for wine tasting, certainly going to be fantastic for that, if you're headed to sh ed ted to sonoma 6 napa 67, all fantastic weather for that. let's look at the next seven days. we have a couple changes that i was mentioning. we're going to keep the high pressure dominating the forecast at least through tuesday and wednesday we have a weak system that could bring the chance of seeing some light showers, but again, it's very weak right now, so it looks like it's going to be kind of moving on through fairly quickly and we'll get a break on thursday and then our best chance of seeing rain will move in on friday. that's going to linger into saturday, possibly even into sunday. so as of right now, one thing to bear in mind the temperatures we're enjoying right now will decrease back down into the 60s and look at this, in fact, we'll only be topping out into the upper 50s next weekend. this weekend we're in the upper 60s. by next weekend we'll notice a

7:47 am
of president tr welcome back. on friday, the fbi arrested roger stone, long time associate of president trump. stone was charged with making false statements to congress, obstructing justice, and witness tampering, but the heart of at rest focused on alleged links between stone and wikileaks, which at the time disclosed clinton emails during the 2016 presidential campaign. stone has denied those charges. nbc bay area political analyst larry gerston joins us. what is the significance of this arrest, this stone arrest? >> pretty big, kira. pretty big. this is the latest chapter in the special counsel investigation by robert mueller, who has been tasked, let's remember, with determining any russian involvement with the trump campaign. now, we already know that the russians tried to help trump win through the use of social media, that they also hacked into the clinton campaign emails. all 17 u.s. intelligence agencies agree on these facts.
7:48 am
it's also widely believed that the russians gave the emails to wikileaks, which could have impacted 2016 presidential election outcome through its releases of clinton materials. but until now, we haven't seen whether the russians actually coordinated with the trump campaign, which takes us to roger stone. the indictment suggests that special counsel mueller considers stone an intermediary between wikileaks and the trump campaign. given that russia gave the emails to wikileaks, the question now is whether stone was a conduit between the russians and the trump campaign, and mueller seems to think so. >> what is wrong with stone having the wikileaks information in the first place? >> well, remember, remember that that information was stolen, stolen by the russians, who were trying to influence the campaign outcome. so the question is, were the russians working with someone in or close to the clinton campaign? >> so that's why stone's
7:49 am
involvement is so important here. >> yes. that's the essence. the essence of the mueller charges against stone, the indictment claims a senior trump campaign official was directed to contact stone about damaging information on the clinton campaign held by wikileaks. the document also asserts that stone had contacts with the trump campaign about that information. special counsel mueller seems to be suggesting a clear connection between the russians, wikileaks, stone and the trump campaign. if that's the case, we could be looking at conspiracy, election fraud, obstruction of justice, and a direct assault on our democracy by a foreign power assisted by someone in or near the trump campaign. >> so if true, that could be a powerful linkage, but playing devil's advocate here, couldn't it be argued that stone was simply engaging in opposition research? >> it's a fair question. it's a fair question. but opposition research is fair
7:50 am
game in politics, and a useful campaign tool, for that matter. it generally focuses on issues look a candidate's past membership in controversial organizations, or previous involvement with scandals or some sort of character, or shifting a position on a critical campaign policy issue. opposition research, kira, does not include collaborating with a foreign government, in this case russia, to influence the outcome of an election, especially when the foreign government is a long ti ed time adversary. >> where do we go next from here? >> it seems muler is close to completing his investigation. there are still some outstanding issue such as who directed trump, which senior campaign official did, to connect with stone and wikileaks?
7:51 am
the answer to that question will not only be a critical moment in the investigation. it will also show us the extent to which our democracy was threatened, and i think that answer is coming fairly soon. >> oh, wow. every time we talk, it seems like the end is so far away. >> but you can see how these dots are getting connected one at a time, one at a time, as they go up the food chain. >> very interesting, as always. thanks, larry, for that insight. still ahead on "today in the bay," getting in on the lip-sync challenge. how local emergency responders are channeling a bay area rapper. we've got a lot of fog. look at our walnut creek camera, 46 degrees. wow, it's foggy out there. don't worry. we will get some peeks of sunshine. i'll have a look at your daytime highs plus a look ahead at your monday forecast coming up in a bit. stay with us. this week on "press:here"
