good monday morning. i'm frances rivera. cracking down on illegal immigration is a cornerstone of president trump's platform. now there's new evidence that another one of his golf clubs was employing undocumented workers. this one 30 miles out of manhattan. several former employees at the westchester county are coming forward to tell their exclusivey with kate snow. >> reporter: for 14 years, she worked in westchester county, new york. >> i liked painting, plumbing, everything we have to fix. >> in the apartment he shares he shows us his uniform and years of pay stubs. she was a seasonal housekeeper for three years, both puebla, mexico. they crossed the border on foot. >> reporter: why did you come

here illegally? >> to give them a better life. >> reporter: you wanted to work? >> yeah. >> reporter: they both say they presented forged green cards and security cards when hired. >> reporter: they didn't ask any questions. >>ons,o nothing. >> did anyone direct you to get false documents? >> no. >> but he thinks people at the highest levels of the trump organization knew they were hiring undocumented workers to stave money, paying low wages and no benefits. >> reporter: do you think they know your documents were false? >> that's what i think, like because they need employees and like they don't check like -- really good. >> our jobs are being stripped from our country like we're babies. >> reporter: gabriel said president trump spoke with him during his years at the club and suspects the president also knew there were undocumented workers on staff. >> i can't be her about that,

hinkhe president must have known? >> he must know. >> we spoke with six undocumented workers, a dozen say ey were fired on january 18th. margarita cruz recorded her meeting. in a statement to nbc news, the trump organization's eric trump says we have tens of thousands across our employees and have strict hiring practices. we take this issue very seriously. this is one of the reasons my father is fighting so hard for immigration reform. the system is broken. now, the workers's attorney is taking some of them to capitol hill to meet with democrats. >> the trump organization is a criminal enterprise. there is a federal crime here. and these people who were fired are material witnesses to a federal crime. >> our thanks to kate snow. that attorney is calling for federal and state

investigations. the white house had no comment on the suggestion that the president knew about the undocumented workers. this morning the government is back in business. for now. hundreds of thousands of federal return to work today in the wake of the longest shutdown in hoe. national monuments reopened over the weekend after president trump signed a measure to fund the government, but only for three weeks. which means we could go through this all over again. the president threatened to resume the shutdown on february 15th if he doesn't get funding for the wall. kelly o'donnell has the latest. >> reporter: handmade signs at one national park service visitor center show the federal government is not fully back in business. but at some landmarks and monuments, park rangers return to duty. >> this is the first day of restored operations. >> reporter: also the message makers, shaping the next round

tragic death of their loved one. >> the district attorney says just last year the fbi investigated him over violent anti-government posts. agents concluded there wasn't enough evidence to prove any crime. the manhunt for a suspect in a louisiana killing spree has come to an end. dakota theriot, accused of murdering five people, has been taken into custody. the the sheriff police had been staying in the home and although the family strongly denies they had been dating. 25 miles south of baton rouge, also fatally shot his parents. his father was still alive when deputies arrived on the scene. >> we was able to get a dying declaration from him. only enough information to let us know that it was his son that committed this act. >> authorities were richmond, virginia when he arrived at his

grandmother's house sunday. a suspect in a downtown denver shooting is under arrest after a standoff with authorities. two police officers were wounded in the gun battle. initial reports of shots fired ended in police deploying chemical agents and a house going up in flames after a heated exchange of gunfire. following the hours-long standoff, the two officers shot, a veteran and a rookie, were hospitalized in fair condition. the suspect, who had earlier barricaded himself in the house, was taken away by ambulance. a denver s.w.a.t. officer was reported injured in the crash as his team was headeo he is expected to make a full recovery. an investigation is ongoing. a somber procession in texas for a canine deputy killed while trying to save others. officials say the canine named chucky was shot several times by a suspect after a high-speed chase. chucky was able to grab hold of the individual who had jumped out of his vehicle and ran. officers fired at and wounded the suspect who now faces charges, including felony
