weather alert. ad lib live radar. rain coming down all across the bay area. welcome to mop morning monday morning, a wet one across the bay area. rain is coming down across the bay area, this is our radar. some places a little harder than others. a little harder to get out of bed this morning as well, hearing the pitter patter of the rain, it was tempting to stay in, but we're here. good morning. hope you had a great weekend. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. meteorologist kari hall is tracking the rain this morning. >> it is soggy and dealing with wet spots on the roads and the heavy waves of rain coming down for much of the bay lot more of continue to work its way into the bay area throughout the day with scattered showers. we are not going to be done yet.

there will be breaks headed into early morning and late afternoon and temperatures dropping today as the winds turn really gusty, as we go into tonight for parts of our bay area hills above 1,000 feet, we're going to see some snow coming down. i'll talk more about that and also what's ahead for the rest of the week coming up, and mike, you have crashes and flooding. >> warning, don't go to the hilltops where the snow is, it's not safe for driving. that's one of the notes before kari gives you details. the radar all over the bay, you see the wet roads. they'll be wet and slick. we've seen single car crashes around the bayh minutes. this windy stretch of highway 84 through niles canyon a mudslide and a crash. we have our crew headed out there. a note, if you normally connect between 680 andsi niles, you cannot use it today. you cannot use it for a couple

of days. we'll continue to give you details oen this a s on this an traffic that's affected. the rain on highway 17 turning into a challenging and frightening one. >> in saratoga a huge chunk of this hillside crashed down highway 9. the san mateo county, the storm caused a sink hole on highway 35 in woodside. both lanes are blocked while crews make repairs. >> scary. yeah. it's not fun. you get like water hit your windshield and you're like, whoa! >>? santa rosa a large tree slammed on top of this home. luckily, no one was rt closed af a mutt slide. the closure is in the remote area of highway 35, also known as skyline boulevard, just north

when the rain hits your neighborhood. this morning a contra costa family is morning the loss of a beloved father killed after a wrong-way driver struck his car on highway 101 in san francisco, this happened early sunday morning. investigators say 21-year-old kayla wilson from san jose drove into the freeway headed the wrong direction. she struck three cars and was ejected from her car, dying at the scene. nine other people were injured, and waheed etimad frommen could cord was also killed. he was driving for uber at the time and had passengers wife and sevensis daughter. >> he was a nice guy, but without him, we're nothing like he was the only one who cared bus, like without him, we're just nothing. >> who is going to drop off the kids to school and pick them up and what kind of car do you use to do that? they had their own mini van used for work and family. >> a go fund me page has been

set up for the family. happening today, oakland teachers plan to announce whether they will strike, as we've been reporting, union members spent much of last week casting ballots of whether to authorize that strike. teachers have been warning for weeks they are prepared to strike this month if the district does not agree to smaller class sizes, better wages and more resources for educators. the district says it's in a financial drcrisis and is planng to cut administrative jobs and possibly close 24 schools over the next five years. to san mateo county, where hundreds of county workers are expected to strike today and tomorrow. about 1,700 workers are expected to hit the picket lines. they come from several county departments, they're demanding higher wages and benefit increases. 97% of the workers voted to strike for two days, after contract talks broke down. it's decision day fortcyudg rule on the company's $50 billion bid to stay in business,

the plan for sears to sell its assets including 425 stores to current chairman eddie lampert. opposition to the plan has been growing from creditors and mall owners. google has big plans in austin, texas. the tech giant is reportedly building a 35-story office tower there. that tower would provide space for 5,000 workers. it is located close to another google building already there. it's just the latest in a string of big real estate moves. inmber, google announced plans to build a mega campus in san jose and a month later, it announced a new campus in new york city. google's parent company, alphabet, is set to report new quarterly earnings today. >> 4:36. coming up next on "today in the bay," patriots celebrating another big super bowl win this morning. why that could spell bad news for your investments.> and majo

company, alphabet. the patriots won the super bowl, so that means the stock market is doomed this year. at least according to the infamous super bowl predictor, which claims the market will rise when a team from the original nfl wins, and falls when a team from the old alf, where the pats originated, win. last year the nfc's philaa eagl in a decade. the super bowl predictor had a 48% accuracy rate over the past 20 years so basically we're talking this monday morning a coin flip. ikea plans business model. it will start leasing products, they believe it could lead to new ways of customers getting everything from office chairs to kitchen cabinets. the first trial program will begin in switzerland this month. ikea is moving away from purely selling products in warehouses. it's opening smaller stores in city centers, it's got pop-up

of course something to wash it down after. but a lot of people didn't watch. >> a little roadways are getting a wash down. >> yeou're trying to recover from your hangover from the super bowl, and then you wake up and it's raining outside. oh, you're like, know what, cough, cough. >> i wanted to stay in bed. >> it is nice. we're going to have more rain in the forecast as we go into the next couple of days but it will wind down and become more spotty. here is a look at our storm ranger, our mobile doppler radar showing some showers moving through. still some heavy waves of rain moving through parts of contra costa county, as you get ready to head out. also raining over oakland right now, moving over toward lafayette and concord. look at how heavily it's raining now, right over hayward and castro valley, so as you step out this morning, if you could wait another 10 or 20 minutes, you'll have much better conditions to drive in. if not, you have to deal with that and also looking at the dumbarton bridge, with some rain coming down there, but much of the peninsula is getting a

chance to dry out, until you get to about sunnyvale, where the rain is starting to come back there, and downtown san jose some sprinkles, but overall, not any heavy rain. the south county also seeing some spotty showers moving through. so we can still see all of this rain that continues to move through the bay area, and the snow that's coming down in the sierra. we do still have the blizzard warning that continues there. looking at as we go into the morning, some spotty showers, and cold air moving in, so any rain that falls is not going to feel good at all, and then going into late morning, early afternoon, still seeing some pockets of some heavy downpours. notice as we go into nt to, ytou start to see blue on the map in the area of mt. hamilton, where we could see some snow coming down tonight and also for some of our higher elevations in parts of the north bay, it does show a wintry mix, and even the possibility of our east bay hills for mt. diablo toward the

tri-valley as well seeing some of the snow covering the hills by tomorrow morning and spotty rain through tomorrow, at least for the first part of the day, before it really starts to clear out. we still see some rain drops on the camera lens here in san jose, as we go throughout the day in campbell, look at the cold temperatures. it only reaches 50 degrees, and then it dips once again, and some of our warmer spots today will only reach 52. it's going to be very cool, especially from what we're used to, in some upper 40s, freezing temperatures for wednesday and thursday, and rain chances return again for the weekend. as we head over to es. >> two highway closures. we'll show you first our0. 58 is not closed, it's all right. i wanted to show you soupy conditions. folks are traveling, it's blurry as we look at the dublin grade in the same area the tri-valley, we have this closure, the windy section of highway 84. folks, if you try once in a while to use that a cut-through

between 680 and mission, you cannot use it. if you always use t will you have to avoid that as well for the next couple of days. that is closed because of a mudslide. there has been a car crash and our crew is headed over to the scene, basically between 680 and mission. do not use that windy section along the railroad tracks and we're still waiting to find out whether or not it's going to affect the ace train which has to use that portion of the tracks to get down into the south bay. the "a" train coming out of the altamont. we don't traditionally tell us whether or not they're able to go through the area until they . we have wet, sloppy roadways and the other highway aut ovgh i've seen a lot of spinouts reported. here is 101, light traffic through palo alto. there is ikea, where contessa said we could rent furniture maybe in the future. >> maybe in the future is right, thanks, mike. it's 4:50.

if you're looking for a way to keep your kids active, you may have taken them to a trampoline park. the centers are really popular, but are they safe? >> investigative reporter liz wagner is here with a warning from parents. >> trampoline parks are clear. you jump at your own risk, but some local moms and dads say safety rules are rarely enforced, and their kids have ended up with significant injuries. take donovan segura, he was bigger kid bounced him into the air at the center in the east bay. he landed on a hard padded surface in between the trampolines and broke his leg. >> i can't walk. i had to use my wheelchair to go everywhere. >> i did not expect this kind of injury to happen where he wasn't, you know, doing anything reckless. he fell within their jumping area on a place where i would think people would commonly fall on and had a serious leg injury.
