of the remains of the house. she was waving her hands, thanking god. it was truly a mirleas rescued from the good morning and thank you for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. we've been on since 4:00 a.m. we just learned people along guadalupe to willow glen were encouraged to evacuate immediately. this is due to flooding in that area. of course that rain continues to pour down here in the bay area. meteorologist kari hall has been monitoring this situation. kari, this is a situation we're probably going to see enmany neighborhoods in the bay area. >> so many warnings, hard to get to them autumn. sonoma to show you stormn county and a much needed break. we're seeing heavier rain shifting toward theeadyth to head out. ot o standing water on the roadways. we are also having some high winds to blow that rain around so it creates low visibility.
4:31 am
still some heavy rain over the santa cruz mountains and lighter showers occurring in san jose. we're going to see this coming in waves off and on all throughout the day and even a few thunderstorms. let's talk about how much rain we've measured. in the north bay a mountain peak called venado has measured almost 12" of rain. unbelievable rainfall out of this storm. ukiah 3.5, dillon beach 4.75, mount tam 6 as well, oakland had over 2". we are in a rain shadow in san jose but a lot of rain over santa cruz mountains. morgan hill 1.5", cupertino 2", san ramon seeing over 2" of rain there. redwood city 1.25, san francisco over 3" of rain. rainfall totals in the bay area
4:32 am
from richard, 5" in contra costa county and concord with rainfall ovn1.5". san anselmo looks at that. near the sausalito area we've had over 7" of rain. we'll continue to monitor what all of this is doing around the bay area as creeks and streams and we also get flooding on the roadway. we'll connuo monitor that throughout the morning. >> that is amazing to know. 7" of rain in the last few hours in the sausalito area. that's where a home slid off its foundation. a woman trapped inside. >> nbc bay area bob redell live for us. bob, you were there as they property that woman from her home. >> good morning to you. we're on crescent avenue in sausdo and collapsed on top of this narrow steep road. down the side of a rock cliff --
4:33 am
i can't tell if it's a cliff or a hill. it's possible there's a second home. i want you to see some video. this is video of a woman trapped inside that home, who was pulled from outside of that home in the last 15 minutes. what's remarkable, she was conscious, talking to firefighters. she even thanked her neighbors at one point. captain doug patterson with the southern marin fire department. tell me about this rescue. what condition was she in? how did you find her? >> surprisingly she was in great condition. she was talking to us, alert. her address was 408 sausalito boulevard so she was at the very top of the canyon and her home slid down with a mudslide that took about 75 to 150 feet wide. she was pinned within the debris in her home, encased in mud. we used some to effect the tsee her through the debris or did you have to pull the debris aw?eang.
4:34 am
we were fortunate we could find her right away. >> her facetoo. >> dirt aund her, mud. quite an event for her coming down that hill. >> what was she saying to you? >> she just couldn't believe she had survived the ride down the hill and this she was appreciative of the fact we were there to help her out. >> how is she doing? >> she's doing fairly well. she's going to be taken to the local hospital to be examined. she should make a full recovery. >> when you pulled up on the scene, i'm wondering if you had any doubts about what you saw and what the results were? >> based on what we saw and the condition of the home, we didn't think anybody would survive that. once we got closer to the house, we could hear her screaming for help and figured we had one victim that we knew of. >> do you think you have any others? >> we confirmed with the occupant of that house there peopln other >> what do you attribute her survival to? >> probably her positioning in the house, the construction of the home, the way it came down the hillside. >> was this a two-story home? >> i couldn't tell. i couldn't tell for sure.
4:35 am
>> okay. we believe there's a second home that came down? >> we believe there's multiple other homes that came down. >> multiple, more than two? >> more than two. we're still trying to confirm that. >> right now you believe the only person inside those homes was the lady. >> she was extricated, that's correct. >> what's it like for you as a firefighter on days like today? >> when these storms come in, you never know what's going to happen, trees come down, vehicle accidents. the last thing you're thinking is we're going to have a hillside come down and take out at house but it does happen. >> to have this result, to pull a woman to safety. >> it's a good feeling for sure. that's why we do it. >> captain doug patterson with southern marin fire as you come back up here you can see on crescent avenue, we're now understanding not just one woman in the foreground, there's at least one, possibly two or more homes in the background that came down this hill. obviously it's dark out. can you see the wind starting to pick up again.
4:36 am
fortunately we're not seeing the heavy rain. it's what brought this down from a road at the top of this canyon. it's miraculous this woman was basically riding down this mudslide. it ended up encased in the mud with debris on top of her. as you saw on that video, she's alive and apparently going to survive and be okay. >> i feel like we witnessed a miracle seeing her pulled out of that muddy mess there. it was a good point they said there were other homes taken off their foundation as well? >> correct. they believe multiple homes. they don't believe there are any other people in those homes. we haven't been to the sausalito road to see where the foundat n foundations were. whoa, okay. >> what was that. >> that was a transformer. a transformer just blew.
4:37 am
scared me. >> that's okay. >> no problem. that blew off over there. anyway, there's something else i should mention or add, the smell of natural gas out here. when the homes came down from the foundations, they ripped out the utility. that was a sign pg&e shut it off or pg&e shutting it down. >> we're making calls in the newsroom in regards to that. they have evacuated the area. they are going door to door. i know you mentioned it's a very narrow street. >> correct. to give you a sense here, i'll have you look down this way, give you a sense of how narrow the street is. all the fire engines lined up single file. this street barely has enough room for two vehicles to pass. good morning. nice job. very steep on either side. to the left the hill, the canyon. to the right -- i think we can walk up here. it's a little dark. you can see how steep it is if
4:38 am
you look through there. look at the contrast of the light there. that sharp object there, that's the a frame of that house that came down. that's at an angle, 90 degree angle on the hillside. we know they have evacuated down there, people in this home. next home down, they have been asked to leave. right now everything here, the debris seems stable because, again, we don't have that heavy rain right now. if the rain does come back, this could be an issue, hence, the reason why they are evacuating the surrounding area. >> of course. completely understandable. saturated grounds there. bob, we're going to keep you at the scene, keep checking back right now. he mentioned other homes had slid off their well and nowd it. >> brian wilson, he's one of those neighbors who also had to be rescued. brian, tell met happened for you this morning. i'm sure a scary situation. >> yeah. it was crazy. my wife and i were laying in bed. we heard basically sounded like a freezing rain barreling
4:39 am
through our house, big flash of light. we jumped out of bed. our baby was in the room next to us and grabbed him. i went out and realized basically our carport was gone, our neighbors cars were gone. that's when i saw our neighbor's house was gone. the front of hour -- our house, we grabbed our go bags we prepared, grabbed the baby. we were going to crawl out the back window. it was a little too high. thank god the fire department came right as we were trying to get out. they the back window. our dog, our baby. my wife and i. yes, so, you know, just watching your newscast. thank god. i think that's our neighbor that was rescued. but you know, from our vantage point, everything was just wiped
4:40 am
out. >> where are you now? >> we were originally in an pla plans with the fire department, keeping us safe. they were telling everyone to get out. as people were driving away, we jumped in a car and said we'll go where you're going. >> exactly. >> we're here with another set of neighbors. >> talk about that just for a little bit. how many other neighbors were there? how many people affected around you? >> well, you know, certainly the house below us, the neighbor, her house is gone. i can't imagine the houses below her. that's hurricane gulch. so there's houses up above and all down below there. i can't imagine what kind of damage happened to the houses below he they were telling for
4:41 am
purposes. our house shook pretty significantly. we're not sure if our house is safe to be in. >> completely. very miraculous. we're so glad you, your wife, baby, dog all managed to escape as well. bryan, best of luck to you. thanks so much for joining us this morning. okay. once again, a home slid off its foundation. sounds like several of them up in sausalito. we've been hit with such pounding rain, saturated land. it actually was pulled from its foundation, slid into another one. we know a woman has been rescued. we heard from that gentleman as well. he and his wife and baby rescued as well. there's evacuations in that area right now. it is in the area of sausalito boulevard and the area of crescent avenue. >> great work of the rescue crews there that have been in full gear this morning rescuing these people this morning. great to see and great to even hear all those people are safe
4:42 am
this morning. >> that's right. a lot of concerns across the bay area with rain we've had. evacuations in place as well. >> more breaking news to tell you about here. in the south bay this one, national weather service issuing a mandatory evacuation. this is for people living along the guadalupe river. we're talking in that area, this is from willow glen way to atlanta avenue in san jose. this is, of course, da to that flooding. all of that rain that we have been seeing here across the bay area as it continues to pour down this morning, people are urged to evacuate that area. again, this is willow glen community centered along lincoln avenue. we'll have more in a live report coming up in a few minutes. guadalupe river f hope to have a live report in willow glen. moments. all this is happening because of the rain, that atmospheric river that's hit the bay area. taking a live look at the radar right now. some of it led up, moving on to central california. you see still a lot of rain coming down. we're tracking the storm for you. we'll have more coming up in
