door, very cold, and tese cold temperatures going throughout the day, looking at walnut creek that will start out in the mid-30s, and then reach into the low 50s today.at least we have , and you're focused on a crash in san francisco. >> which is apparently one of our warmer spots at 39. we're looking over here as we see green sensors around the bay, we expect a lighter volume, of course, as a holiday monday for many schools and businesses. slowing southbound 101 a traffic break, after quite a while of traffic being blocked for two lanes. looks like that may have cleared in the last 60 seconds and south 101 towards cesar chavez it was slow getting off from octavia but i'll check. the north bay we have a closure for 37. i'll talk about that in a second but you have bigger north wine country. it happened about 11:00 last night on henry road midway between two vineyards, j&d and cios du val carneros. a deputy approached a vehicle

and shots were fired. the male driver died at the scene. other people were in the car and so far, investigators are not certain the suspect ever fired at the deputy. our pete suratos is in napa gathering information and will join us for a live report in our 5:00 hour. highway 37 is still closed because of the storm, from atherton avenue to highway 101 in novato. cal trans is working on this but don't expect the highway to open soon. crews say the scenario there, the middle of the week. marin county remains under a local state of emergency because of all the damage from the storm. police are looking for a driver who sent a you gl flyi into the air, but a warning before you see this, i want to tell you, the girl is okay, it happened on campoy streetnd louaturda night. in the upper left corner of your screen a black about, mw comes around the corner as several

children run across the street. 7-year-old hazel conzet hit by a car and gets up and runs away. she has some scrapes and bruises but the good news here is that she's okay. >> i was over here and just walking over here, a car just comed here and i banged my . >> just thankful my daughter is okay. it could have been a lot worse. >> very frightening there. if you recognize the car, please call santa rosa police. >> i'm glad she's okay. 4:33 for you right now. authorities in lake tahoe this morning still searching for the gunman who shot two men in a car, killing one of them. this happened saturday night outside of a popular mall in tahoe city. a 33-year-old man from sparks, nevada, died. authorities say that they don't normally see this type of crime in that area. >> it was low frequency in the tahoe area, we don't usually come across shootings. >> the other victim was critically injured. deputies are not saying if they have a description of the shooter and have not indicated a

possible motive. new details now, chicago police say the assault reported by santa rosa native jussie smollett, the two nigerian brothers arested and later released told policemollett paid them to attack him. at least one of them reportedly worked on the show "empire." police requested a follow-up interview with smollett. the "empire" actor's attorney released a statement denying the accusations. police say they combed surveillance video in the heavily monitored downtown chicago area but unable to find any footage of at tack. a hot air balloon ridetu. this is video from chp moments after the balloon pilot had to touch down in the remote marshland of scaggs island. >> "today in the bay's" sergio quintana has more on what went wrong. >> reporter: this is video from the chp helicopter. you can see how remote the area

is. according to the operator, sonoma ballooning adventures, air currents shifted toward the end of the right so this was the pilot's best option to land. in the video, you can see the passengers walking around. none of them were hurt but still needed help. >> they were on an island, i was in a tidal marsh so at the time we had landed from the first flight to the time that we landed to the last one to get the last group back, the water had actually come up about six to eight inches, so they were starting, they were standing out there in the water. >> reporter: the chp helicopter made four flights to evacuate the 11 passengers and the pilot, taken to a field in vallejo, where paramedics made sure they were uninjured. theil would not talk to us on camera but the business manager told me by phone this was not an emergency landing. >> it was a dry, textbook landing. it was not an emergency and it was not a crash landing. there were no injuries or no issues at all with the landing itself. it was textbook.

welcome back, everyone. it's 4:40 right now. happening today, cal trans plans to start personmanent repair wo on the richmond-san rafael brge here is some of the prep work going on. they will replace expansion joints starting at 9:00 tonight. one lane of traffic will stay open in each direction to help you get through. the work comes after falling concrete from the upper deck hit a car, shut down the bridge for nine hours, earlier this month. new detail this is morning of some scary moments for more th san bernardino. 15 people, including three children, were trapped after their vehicle became stuck on a remote forest service road saturday night. crews had to fight through snow, fog and even snowpack to get them. four dogs were also rescued here. luckily, no one was hurt. state regulators want a

commute and drive this morning to work. let's get a look at what you can expect as we go throughout the day. yes, this is left behind, in the tri-valley, although we haven't seen many spots with patchy, dense fog. we are seeing it now in dublin and also in pleasanton. you're dealing with that. we do have the clear conditions, as you make your way over to san jose, and getting dressed this morning, you are going to have to deal with those very cold temperatures. a coat, but we can put away the rain boots and maybe break out the dress shoes today and as we look at our temperatures, we're headed up into the mid-50s today. it's going to be much cooler than normal. e should be reaching into the make it there this week. all cool temperatures behind that front that moved day of so before our next system moves in. this one will be here on wednesday, and the good news is that it doesn't look like a really strong storm. so we do have more time for that water to soak into the ground, more clouds moving in on wednesday, and then by wednesday afternoon, we are seeing a round of some showers moving through. most of us getting about a

quarter inch of rain or less, and then we dry out. so our seven-day forecast shows some mid-50s for today, and for the inland areas, we do have to deal with those freezing temperatures going into tomorrow, just slightly warmer, and then with the more clouds and the rain, it will be cooler for the inland areas on wednesday. thursday and friday, saturday also looking nice and then we'll gradually warm up. san francisco still breezy today and we'll keep it in the mid-50s throughout the everything is clear at the bay bridge. >> so clear, no backup in the cash lanes, which is where we us i-82 from the sierra still watching for the chain advisories, be very careful, it took hours and hours, nine hours last i heard friends headed to south lake tahoe on saturday. we're looking toward the rest of the bay, green sensors all around as we expect coming through the maze, contra costa county, no problems there. up in the north bay, the traffic flows nicely for 101 but getting there is still a problem, same

as last week. marcus and laura were telling you highway 37 westbound completely closed. eastbound down to one lane getting away from 101. atherton avenue is the clearest and they're continuing to work on that emergency levee repair over there, which was the reason why the water hit there last week. a smooth drive for the rest of the bay. in the south bay a concern 101 at 280, even though the sensors are not slowing there was a crash reportedly blocking two lanes there. we'll continue to track that and presidents day holiday, saturday modified schedule for the transit agencies but they are running today. back to you. >> good to know, thank you very tch. re is a problem at sfo causing delays and canceling flights. our investigative team has learned sfo is sinking a akseate rate. here is senior investigator stephen stock. >> reporter: it's no secret sfo is built on landfill. what isn't so well-known the fact it is built on landfill
