jong-un next week in vietnam. >> i don't think this will be the last meeting by any chance. >> reporter: the president, who after their first sit down declared north korea is no longer a nuclear threat now appears to be lowering expectations saying he's in no rush for denuclearization as long as north korea doesn't renew testing its missiles. but his intelligence chiefs warned the rogue regime remains committed to developing a long-range nuclear-armed missile. asked about north korea's apparent reluctance to give up its nuclear arsenal? >> no, i don't think they're reluctant. i think they want to do something. they have a great, great potential as a country and i think that's what they're looking to do. we'll see. >> reporter: that summit scheduled to take place in one week. as for the russian report, many legal experts say just because robert mueller is winding down does not mean the investigating stops with federal prosecutors in manhattan and elsewhere expected to follow up on pieces of the investigation. craig?

>> peter skraalexander, thank y. we are joined by secretary of state mike pompeo. this time next week you will be in vietnam with the president for this second summit with kim jong-un. after the first summit in singapore, president trump tweets out that north korea no longer poses a nuclear threat. we know now things to a preponderance of the evidence that's not necessary true. some of that evidence coming from the cia, the agency you used to run. how would you characterize the north korean threat as it stands tod today. >> the good news is they haven't conducted missile tests in well over a year so that's better than when the trump administration came into office but as the administration said repeatedly, this is a long and difficult task. we've been negotiating hard. i have a team on the ground in vietnam today continuing to lay the ground work for the summit next week in hanoi and i'm very hopeful. i'm hopeful chairman kim will fulfill the promises he made in singapore in june of last year. >> complete denuclearization. is that still the goal?
7:11 am
is that still the expectation? >> yes, sir, that's the goal. >> any compromises on that? >> no, that's what we need for the american people to -- to keep the american people safe, we have to reduce the threat from the nuclear-armed north korea and we can work on peace and security and a brighter future for the north korean people. >> south korea's president moon jae-in suggested one way to achieve that might be to officially declare an end to the korean war, perhaps reduce the number of troops we have stationed in south korea. are either of those an option? >> that's a really good question. remember the objective, the one you laid out, the complete verifiable denuclearization of the peninsula. i don't want to get into negotiation what is we might give up, what they might give up but the american people should know we have the toughest economic sanctions that have ever been placed on north korea and we won't release the pressure until such time as we're confident we've substantially reduced that risk. >> it sounds like those are options on the table next week in vietnam? >> we're going to engage in negotiations.

the president will go there and these two leaders will make a step forward. >> let's talk about the alabama woman who left four years ago to join isis, she has a son. she said she wants to come home now. she was radicalized, she made a big mistake. yesterday the president tweeted that he ordered you to not allow her to return. your office said she's not a u.s. citizen. her attorney says she was born in 194 84 in hackensack, new jersey. why would we not want to bring her back to question her, perhaps even to try her? >> well, you have to remember the context. we've now taken down all but the last square inch of the caliphate in syria and iraq. millions of people liberated by president trump and our administration, the great work our soldiers have done on the ground. there are now over 800 terrorists that are being held, foreign terrorist fighters being held in syria today. she's just one of them. she is a terrorist. she's not a u.s. citizen. she ought not return or the this country.
7:13 am

7:14 am
forever declare he wasn't credible. so i don't put a lot of stock in the things mr. mccabe said. my work at the cia was aimed at the singular purpose of keeping america safe. i don't talk about investigations we did or did not. do i saw remarks about the 25th amendment. >> no knowledge of that? >> i've been in the cabinet since almost opening day for the trump administration and that's ludicrous. i've never heard any discussion about it by anyone, any of my fellow cabinet member or anyone else serving in the executive branch. >> you weren't aware of the counterintelligence investigation? >> i don't talk about ongoing investigations or the absence of ongoing investigations. for two years, i've protected that and i'll protect it again today but know this, this administration has been tougher on russia than the previous administration by far, the only person you really need to ask about that is vladimir putin. >> let's talk about venezuela we're trying to get aid into this country.
7:15 am
president maduro says he believes it's a pre-text for a u.s. invasion. what is our national interest in venezuela? secondly, what do we expect to happen this weekend? >> so this week end we're trying to send hundreds of tons of food into the region. there have been three million refugees have to leave the country. the humanitarian crisis is enormous. that's always an american interest to make sure we feed those that the government caused. this is a wholly man made catastrophe in venezuela. we have security interests, too. this is in our region. we don't want this to be a cue pan puppet state in venezuela so there are many american interests and president trump is determined to protect the american people and provide high man tar
