start of the work week. visibility down to about two miles in santa rosa. livermore less than a mile. san francisco, 7 miles. santa cruz, two miles. we can expect to keep that fog around through midmorning before it burns off. i wanted to show you satellite radar. that moisture that you see off to the east, that's all moisture from the initial storm that moved in friday night. what we're seeing today is residual moisture. still tracking scattered showers. i'll give you a closer look coming up in about 15 minutes. all righ >> all right. a strong armed robbery, a chase and a car crash disrupting a quiet bay area neighborhood. police say it began late yesterday afternoon near san jose's willow glen at a valero gas station. officers responded to a report of three women shoplifting and a male accomplice who pushed down

the clerk who confronted them. when police responded, the thieves took off in an suv as police chased them through the streets. >> the car went into my vineyard, i went out and three girls jumped out and started running toward the back, up the fence. >> police say they arrested three suspects. as for the man who pushed the clerk, don't know if police located or arrested him. teachers look to be heading back to class in oakland. teachers in san ramon may be preparing to walk out. oakland teachers are expected to vote today to officially end their strike. as part of their agreement they will get an 11% raise over four years. they'll also receive a 3% bonus.

a different story in san ramon. teachers voted to authorize a strike if contract negotiations are not resolved. like in oakland, they're also asking for smaller class sizes and more pay. a statement from the district says we had two positive meetings with the san ramon valley education leadership association last week and we remain committed to the negotiation process and hopeful we can find common ground. a community meeting is planned for wednesday. the two sacramento police officers who shot and killed stephon clark will not face charges. sacramento county's district attorney made that announcement yesterday. she said no laws were broken when clark was killed last march in his grandparents backyard. officers were there looking for someone breaking car windows which they say clark was doing. the officers told clark to show his hands, which he did not do. officers thought a flash of light coming from his direction

may have been the reflection off a gun muzzle. as it turns out that reflection may have come off of clark's cellphone is a short time later they opened fire. clark's family was quick to react to the announcement. >> they executed my son. they execute it him in my mom's backyard, and it is not right. it is not right. however, the da has shown us time and time again throughout her term who she is and what she stands for, which is not fairness or justice. >> the shooting touched off waves of protests in sacramento. that shut down busy streets, disrupted sporting events and took over city council meetings. his family filed a wrongful death suit against both the officers and the city of sacramento. also reacting to yesterday's announcement was senator kamala harris. she tweeted, stephon clark should still be alive. today's news is a tragic and all-too-painful reminder that our criminal justice system is deeply flawed and lacks accountability. our fight for justice continues.

as we first told you yesterday morning people are returning home as floodwaters recede in guerneville and neighboring russian river communities. they're seeing the damage up close and just beginning to clean up. this is becoming an all too common scene, water logged belongings drying out on driveways and curbs. people are trying to put their homes and businesses back together. the red cross is giving out cleaning supplies. as far as the damage, sonoma county says initial estimates show 1$155 million in damage county-wide. that includes 1,900 homes and nearly 600 businesses. >> i don't think that it is going to be finished for a long time because there's also damage, right. so you've got -- we've got water and mud everywhere. >> debris drop-off sites have been set through tomorrow in guerneville. good news for people in novato. highway 37 back open again. lanes were closed because of

this early. >> i know you are. >> it's perfect timing because "meet the press" is on right after our newscast. larry will start us off with our first question for you, chuck. >> chuck, as we await mueller's report, we're all wanting to know what happened last week? what do you get out of what happened last week on capitol hill? what did we learn? and more importantly perhaps how has the president responded? >> i learned a couple things. number one, the new york investigation, the one that is the non-mueller portion of this investigation into the stormy daniels business, but that has unlocked a whole mess of investigations into the trump business. trump organization, possibly the trump family. i look at the cohen hearing and realized the trump organization may have legal problems that go past the trump presidency. what also came through is democrats didn't hear anything that said ah-ha, time for impeachment. you saw that republicans, the

bar for republicans on this is russian conspiracy. nothing lower than that. i think the democrats have sort of abided by that same thing. so while cohen was damaging to the president, i think the president's response yesterday giving the longest speech of his presidency is proof that it personally got under his skin, i don't know if he provided enough fodder to say this president could end before the election. >> interesting. shifting gears a little bit, before you have to go, chuck, we are seeing more democrats get into the 2020 race for president. you have new poll numbers out this morning. any early hints about what democrats are looking for in a nominee? >> i would say the most interesting question this month is we asked of democrats what's more important to you in a nominee? someone that is closer to your view on the issues or someone simply that can beat donald trump? the split was 56/40 with a majority being wanting someone closer to their views.

ripley after the lead character in the alien movies. the capsule will spend five days on the orbiting outpost before a splashdown in the atlantic on friday. elon musk says he is hopeful the capsule will be ready to carry people later this year. >> we still haven't launched anyone yet. hopefully we will later this year. that would be the culmination of a long dream for a lot of people. me and a lot of people at spacex for sure. from space to planet earth, let's check in with vianey arana with our sunday forecast. we are talking about how oddly humid the rain has made the weather. >> it's been one of those days where i think everybody is over the rain, but we kind of need it. but it's like, not very cold.

trying to head back tonight. the road conditions will be a little slippery. we'll started to see some of that snow melt and we're tracking a mix of snow showers of four inches in some areas. more for the higher elevations. road conditions might still be tricky. maybe wait until tomorrow morning when it's expected to be clearer out there. we have an active pacific. this is trailing our next storm system. arriving in the form of an atmospheric river. right now it looks like it will target southern and central california, but even then it could bring us a good chance of seeing a good soaker heading in towards tuesday. rain increasing by tuesday night. and then by wednesday we'll get rain to showers. that could push up further north. as we inch closer to that storm system we'll have a better idea of the tracking and timing. rain totals of an inch to a little over two and a half inches. a break tomorrow. more rain on the way as we head

suspects. a helicopter even helped in the pursuit, which ended about a half mile from the gas station when the suv crashed through the fence of a vineyard. >> i was in my house. i heard a bang and i went outside and i'm thinking to myself, are you kidding me. >> that's when yoko ran outside. >> i saw the car go in my vineyard. i went out and three girls jumped out and started running toward the back, up the fence. >> reporter: police say they arrested three suspects. one woman was treated at the scene for injuries. he says the suv narrowly missed hitting his home, something he worries about at this intersection. he says for years he asked the city to do more to prevent crashes here but little has been done. >> they're going to end up in my kitchen one day. now to a tale of two cities as teachers are looking to head back to the classroom in oakland, teachers in san ramon are preparing to walk out. teachers in oakland today are

sacramento. also reacting to yesterday's announcement was senator kamala harris. she tweeted, stephon clark should still be alive. today's news is a tragic and all-too-painful reminder that our criminal justice system is deeply flawed and lacks accountability. our fight for justice continues. family and friends are mourning the loss of a west point cadet. 21-year-old peter zhu died in a skiing accident in new york and he was pronounced brain dead days later. he is an organ donor but his bay area parents have gone to court in new york because they want doctors there to retrieve something very personal from their son's body before his organs are harvested. nbc bay area's sergio quintana has the details on this unusual request. >> reporter: according to west point, pete er zhu was one of t top in his class.

in the bay area his former swim coach and former eagle scout leader told me they're not surprised he was an honored student at west point. he suffered a spinal injury in a ski accident and was declared brain dead wednesday. according to court papers he is an organ donor and his parents are asking for a judge's order to extract genetic material from his body as well. this is a part of their petition. this is their statement. >> the real unique legal question here is that the material being harvested is not to save a life but to create life in the future. so this presents a tricky question for the courts certainly down the road when the parents try to use this material. >> reporter: in court papers his parents say peter is the last male child of his father's family. in part because of china's one-child policy, peter would be the last to carry on the family's name. according to his parents' attorney, they're still waiting for a response from a judge.

a follow-up to a story we brought you earlier in the week. a man is under arrest for brutally attacking a woman on a trail in mountain view. the 29-year-old was arrested friday at his home, not far from stevens creek trail where the attack happened. police say on monday he pushed a woman into the bushes there and started repeatedly punching her in the face. it turns out he matched the description of the suspect and get this, the two were roommates once. he only lived with the woman for a few weeks. a $2 billion grand opening of sorts in san francisco yesterday for patients and employees at the bay area's newest hospital campus. 240 patients moved from two of sutter hospital's old locations to the new california pacific medical center campus. the move completes years of work

suffered a double setback this past week. welcome back. as we have discussed already, president trump suffered a double setback this past week. first he returned from hanoi absent any agreement from north korean leader kim jong-un. and second and more important locally the president had to endure devastating allegations to the house government operations committee by his former attorney convicted felon michael cohen. political analyst larry gersten rejoins us now for his take on the week. for people who missed you the last couple of weeks, this is why you were gone. you were healing.

testimony, while it touched both on potential campaign illegalities and a web of international connections between the russians, wikileaks and trump campaign officials, that's big stuff. >> and of course it depends who you ask. but what takeaways do you think emerged from cohen's testimony? >> let's remember. only one of cohen's three appearances was public. but there were some interesting points. among them copies of checks from the president to cohen for paying off stormy daniels and karen mcdug whole had affairs with the president. these appear to be violations of campaign finance laws. also confirmation that trump pursued a moscow hotel through most of 2016 suggesting a conflict of interest. and reason to be deferential to russia. most important, cohen's allegation -- i rerepeat, allegation that he observed a telephone conversation between trump and roger stone about imminent release of hijacked

hillary clinton e-mails, which if true would suggest conspiracy. remember, mueller's recent indictment of roger stone claimed an unnamed person high in the administration instructed trump to communicate with wikileaks. something stone denies. >> it steeems like the mueller investigation has exploded. >> has, but it's been incredibly disciplined. now in addition to conspiracy and possible obstruction of justice surrounding the dismissal of james comey, investigators are looking into the president's family and business for crimes relating to bank fraud, insurance fraud, money laundering and tax evasion. combined these are serious issues. >> right, but isn't it fair to say that investigators haven't charged the president nor others with most of these possible crimes?

>> absolutely. cohen's statements coupled with other indictments and new knowledge of several independent investigations on these aspects suggested that many more dominos are yet to fall. remember, whatever we see in public is a small fraction of the evidence that has been gathered by mueller and his team. >> that's a good point. all right. i feel like i always do this to you. crystal ball. what's next? >> look, we're entering the most explosive period of this investigation. with the house under democratic control, expect at least six committees with various jurisdictions to hold endless hearings in areas republicans have refused to go when they are in the majority. democrats will have to be careful, careful to coordinate with the special counsel so as to not interfere with his investigation. here's another way to look at this. we only see about 10% of an iceberg. 90% is out of sight.

on saturday. we still have an active pacific. we're monitoring more changes ahead. let's get a closer look at where the rain is. majority of this is off to the east. you can see some snow and rain coming down in the sierra mountains. >> light scattered showers are expected to pop up off and on throughout the day. temperatures in the 50s and low 60s. not very cold out there. it's been feeling muggy outside. temperatures in the upper 50s. a lot of moisture makes for a humid day. san francisco, 57. palo alto, 59. san jose, 61 degrees. winds will be breezy kicking up into the afternoon. your hour-by-hour outlook. mostly cloudy with some breezier conditions. then it kind of continues this way on and off all day. it's just going to be a gloomy day. as we head into monday morning, we will catch a break from the rain. for those of you traveling or planning to travel up to lake

tahoe or family heading back from lake tahoe, the forecast is still calling for snow today. the road conditions are still not going to be ideal. i think the best travel day is going to be tomorrow. you don't want to get stuck out there and caught offguard. enhanced satellite image. i want to show you the moisture we're seeing off the coast. we're monitoring an atmospheric river event. it looks like it will aim more at southern and central california. a quick check of the long range outlook, it looks like if we see this begin to center over the bay area, we'll see breezy with rain, increasing by tuesday night. as we head in towards wednesday, we'll see the rain turn into showers and thursday we'll have brief, heavy rain possible. because we have already seen so much rain and all of the rivers and reservoirs, they are at capacity, we'll monitor that closely. again, right now taking more of an aim towards southern and central. here's a quick look at your seven-day forecast.
