on light showers, seeing that around san jose. as we look at the bigger picture, still snowing in the sierra, that will gradually wiped down as we head into the next 24 hours. so overall there's a little unsettled weather here but we are going to get a break from the heavier rain. as we head over to mike, you're tracking a crash in san jose. >> i am. also a warning about the damp roadways. this camera in san jose, 101, did have a couple of drops for a couple of minutes, right where you showed that radar activity. i also saw flashing lights southbound 101 and make the transition on northbound 680. that's right here and that's where we have reports of a crash at jackson. it sounds like your fast lane may be blocked. there's no slowing that shows up on the sensors. if you join me from 101 to barry, keep in mind there may be police activity on the left side so stay to the right. should be green in portions of the south bay, also tri-valley where there have been sprinkles. there's a crash in oakland away from the bay bridge.

i'll give you that coming up. >> check back with you. 4:31 right now, still no deal after 13 hours of negotiating. no contract for san ramon valley school district teachers. they met behind closed doors long into the newt. sharon joins us live at the district offices in danville with the very latest. sharon. >> reporter: when my colleague went live last night from here, key players from the potential strike were talking inside. last night teachers let a town hall meeting to let parents, educators and students to know what they are asking for. they are asking for more pay but want more librarians, smaller class sizes. both seeds signed 11 different tentative agreements but according to the teachers association, class size is a sticking point. >> in my math classes 40 kids and one teacher of it's hard for

one teacher to control all of us at one time. >> all of us are facing declining enrollment, less revenue, rising health care and pension cost with not enough money coming from the state. >> no word on when negotiators will go back to the bargaining table. if they don't go back soon, a teachers strike is possible in the district. we're told that strike could take place as early as the end of april. that, of course, is when state exams take place, testing, so that would be a big impact on students. reporting live in danville, i'm shar sharon katuda, "today in the bay." president trump's former campaign chairman is set to go to jail. he's facing two sentencing hears. a jury found him guilty of a number of charges including special counsel's russia probe

when he refused to cooperate. we have a live report in d.c. in the next half hour. developing this morning, new concerns with civil rights groups at the border. new documents back it up. it is a list of 60 journalists, attorneys, volunteers created by i.c.e. to stop for questioning when they cross the border. most are american citizens. several reported they are repeatedly being stopped and questioned as part of a national security investigation. the list refers to them as instigators, tied to asylum seekers. there will be more in the 5:00 hour. new details for you tied to a stabbing incident that led to the death of a b.a.r.t. rider last year. that rider died in july from skin infection that developed from a tiny cut oppose his leg during the original altercation. prosecutors initially sought a

murder charge, that is until the judge threw that out in lieu of involuntary manslaughter. they planned to refile. they have now reversed course and plan to proceed with the current charges. the defendant abdul bay, has already entered a not guilty plea. the south bay community heart broken this morning after the tragic incident that unfolded yesterday at a south san jose apartment complex. a mother killed her two young sons and then killed herself. police so far not officially revealing how the mother or her children died. the boys were 4 and 7 years old. the father is the one that came home to discover the tragic scene. tens of thousands of people of hayward will get a bit more protection from getting evicted. city council voted unanimously to extend rental protections to 20,000 units across the city. that move is due to rising housing prices, stability issues for residents and increasing

good morning. frank holland cnbc headquarters. here are today's headlines. wall street sees red arrows, dow down 63 points. yesterday stocks fell for a third straight day. nasdaq posted losing streak of the year. investors remained focused on trade talks. watch list unemployment, productivity and consumer credit. some retail news, amazon will close all of its pop-up shops in the u.s. next month. it has 87 stores within a store inside whole foods, kohl's and shopping malls. there customers can try out amazon products like smart speaker and amazon tv as well as services such as prime video. amazon will instead expand its physical bookstores and

effects. it's starting to clear out as we take a live look outside in walnut creek. there will be breaks in the clouds. there will be peeks of sunshine. temperatures in the upper 40s to start out this morning, so it's another cool start. we're heading into the mid-50s for today. a live look outside in san francisco, still cloudy. you get dressed this morning, a reminder we're not completely done with the storm, so you do need the umbrella for those just in case pop-up showers. now, for the chilly temperatures, you also need a jacket. it will be cooler today compared to yesterday but highs only reaching into the low 50s in the south bay and some mid-50s for the east bay with walnut creek reaching 55 degrees up to 52 in redwood city and 53 in the mission district. today in the north bay up to 55 in sonoma. then as we look at storm ranger, that's our mobile doppler radar, still showing green here and there. we are seeing much more of a

break in between those showers compared to yesterday. but it still will be the kind of lasting effects of that storm system that moved through yesterday bringing us some spotty showers. even as we go into this evening, it still shows a chance of rain. then this all starts to move out heading into tomorrow but the system doesn't completely leave us alone. there will be some more rain in the forecast heading into saturday. so we are still going to have those rain chances in there. then going into sunday, we spring forward. we will also have another chance of rain in the forecast next tuesday as it starts to become a little bit warmer but we're still cooler than where we should be. heading over to mike, tracking the roads and still a little damp in spots. >> that word of caution, slick road, possibly spinouts. we do have a crash we're updating here. here is 101. sorry for the bright lights. i tried to adjust. shield your eyes as we look at the off-ramp.

chp taking a turnover there on 680 where we have a crash on the shoulder, just outside the view of our camera but off that transition. so keep that activity in mind south 101 to 680. that could be an issue for the connector if you don't clear it quickly. you see how dark it was but how light the traffic was in that direction. smoother ride, damp roadways kari is talking boult with green highlighting throughout the bay. no major concerns, flooding. march creek road over here, that is an important cutthrough for some folks cutting between highway 4 and toward the area of brentwood, discovery bay. keep those roads in mind. we're looking at eastbound 580 getting away from the bay bridge. that's where the original report was for the crash. eastbound is clear, actually in the commute direction approaching that mini maze. do be careful, activity in the fast lane, a spinout reported there. live shot from oakland, traffic nicely, easily, the camera shaking quite a bit yesterday. winds not much of an issue but still be careful on the bridges.

back to you. >> thanks, mike. chp is investigating an early morning fire along interstate 880 that totalled an suv. this happened earlier this morning at the off-ramp in san jose. officers say the suv was stolen and may have crashed before it was set on fire. there was no one in or near the suv by the time the officers arrived. >> immigration and customs enforcement detention facility in bakersfield plans to stay open. it was previously announced the facility was shut down leaving potentially 400 detainees in limbo. a $1 million contract with geo group funds that detention center through march of 2020. now to a follow-up for you now involving a member of stanford admission department. the man faced a judge yesterday. according to documents he repeatedly stabbed a woman with

a kitchen knife. they were experimenting with lsd when the attack happened. he faces charges of murder and domestic violence. the woman he was accused of stabbing urged the judge to show lenience in the case as did his attorney. >> there's nothing in his history that indicates any reason for any kind of psychotic break. i think it was a bad acid trip. >> the court ordered a psychological evaluation. shavelle, assistant director of admissions for stanford will be back in court next month. the university placed him on leave. the san francisco police department said it should never take four hours for officers to respond to a 911 call of a robbery and assault. the owner of good orchard bakery called for help in january reported two men robbed him and broke his finger. at last night's commission meeting, the officer said the breakdown started when 911

cardinal guilty of failing to report a pedophile priest. this is france's most important sex abuse trial so far. the cardinal was given a six-month suspended sentence. the priest confessed to abusing the boy scout in the 1970s and '80s will be tried separately. we'll have more news right after this break.

>> consumer investigators chris chmura and his team worked to ease that pain. >> good morning. her son had a nasa cut on his face from a a playground accident. can you see it right there. nothing too serious but he did need treatment. a san francisco ambulance crew saw her carrying the little boy and stopped to help. the medics told her they would bill her insurance, instead she got a bill for $2100 in the mail. she asked the billing company to file a claim with her health insurance but that didn't happen. after four months of trying to resolve this herself, judith asked us to reach out. we reached out to the billing service and a week later judith said it sent her bill to the insurance adviser and paid it in full, all $2100. health insurance doesn't always cover ambulance rides at 100%. you should check your policy or call your insurance company now. find out now what they will pay

and clouds. every now and then you may have rain falling. i'll talk more about that coming up. mike, you're searching for info about oakland. >> we have an incident reported north of the shot here. looking at the coliseum northbound 880 moves smoothly and light volume of traffic past high street. watch the tube from oakland to alameda, they are doing that maintenance work. over near the maze we have a crash reported as well. folks, 880 and 980, a big rig reported in the middle of the roadway. no other detail from chp but they did specifies a big rig which may be in the middle lane. we'll track that but no slowing shows up yet. the rest of the bay, laura, looks good. still damp out there. >> it's left some damage behind, several roads washed out. might not be in the middle of your commute. but for people in rural contra costa county, it could be their own way out. pete suratos joins us live in martinez on how things are looking there.
