"today in the bay's" kris sanchez is following the story for us. she's going to join us with a live report at the top of the hour. still no word of an arrest in the deadly weekend in the east bay. this is involving a shooting that happened saturday night in antioch. the gunman shot two men near the intersection of west 19th and "d" streets. one of those men died. the other is now recovering. police so far are not indicating if they have any suspect information or if they know what led to that shooting. cleanup crews ramping up

good morning, i'm frnch fan holland at cnbc global headquarters. here are today's top business headlines. the markets are coming off their worst week of the year, the nasdaq snapping a ten-week winning streak. on today's watch list a report on retail sales. shares of boeing are under pressure this morning, as several global airlines are temporarily suspending use of the company's 737 max 8 jet following the deadly crash in ethiopia this weekend. china is grounding nearly 100 planes, more than a quarter of the global fleet. it is the fastest selling jet since it went into service in 2017. it is used by american, united and southwest airlines. american and southwest saying they are fully confident in the
4:41 am
aircraft. and tesla is raising vehicle prices by about 3% on average worldwide, as the company reversed a plan to close all of its retail stores. tesla says the price hike will take effect march 18th and only apply to the more expensive versions of the model 3, the model s and the model x. there will be no increase to the $35,000 model 3. those are your cnbc business headlines. back over to you. >> all right, thanks, frank. coming up next on "today in the bay", finally a dry week or maybe some rain coming our way? >> only a very slight chance, so as you wake up and get ready to head out the door, we are going to see those temperatures much colder starting up in the upper 30s. we are going to have some milder weather going into the week so we'll take a look at that, coming up next. and pretty mild traffic flow on the peninsula right here in palo alto, but nearby we have a closure i need to tell you about, because things got a little more complicated over there. jose
4:42 am
4:43 am
4:44 am
if you are -- well, taking a live look outside in the south bay this morning, a nice clear start to our morning. what i was going to say, if you happen to be in the south bay yesterday afternoon about 5:00, you may have experienced this. boy, the hail really came down, this is in kris sanchez's backya backyard, it happened in the willow glen area. from what i understand, it sounded like doomsday.
4:45 am
it hit hard, it hit fast, and there was a lot of it. we have more video to show you within the newscast as well. >> she had enough ice for a margarita party. >> because that's the way we roll around here! >> we had such a busy week with round after round of rain last week and then it was about to wind down, but it didn't want to just do it, you know, kind of ease out of here. it was just like okay, we're going to make a show here, and taking a live look at the calm conditions now in san francisco, looking good, now that that storm has moved away from the bay area, but leaving behind some really cool temperatures, and we are now in the mid-40s there, but we do have some upper 30s in the north bay, now 37 degrees in santa rosa, napa, and in ukiah, and so as we go through the day, it's going to be a nice one, with our temperatures reaching into the low 60s. for the south bay, up to 63 degrees. 61 in napa and 62 degrees in santa rosa. here is a live look outside in
4:46 am
san jose, it's still cloudy, and we are going to still need some very warm clothing today, with our very cold temperatures, you need a coat, but the change will be you need some sunglasses, too. here is a look at the storm system that was just off the coast and this is a loop from the past 18 hours. could you see the lightning strikes that were developing yesterday afternoon, and with that storm we also had it kind of drifting just farther to the south. so here is a look at yesterday afternoon into the evening hours, and that storm that brought in that hail. now it has dipped to the south and is moving away and we'll watch our next system moving in. this one looks like it will kind of move just to the north of us, and bring in more clouds, but not much in the way of rain. so this is the way it looks on the hour by hour outlook, all clear today, by early tomorrow morning we start to see some clouds moving in, but the clouds don't look like they'll bring us a lot of showers, but we'll still keep a slight chance as this cold front moves through,
4:47 am
and the winds will pick up as well. going throughout the week, it does look mostly dry, and it will be warming up, going from the low 60s today to the low 70s by the end of the weekend. it's still going to be chilly during the early hours with some upper 30s tomorrow morning. i'll keep track of that, and mike, you're saying there was a hazmat situation going on. >> technically a hazmat situation, it sounds dramatic. the peninsula has an easy drive. i showed you this on the palo alto shot. not far from there we have an issue farther up the roadway southbound through redwood city just about the woodside off-ramp there was a crash and the off-ramp is closed now because it involved in that crash was a bumper and someone punctured part of their fuel tank, so there's fuel as well as debris across that off-ramp. they've closed it for the time being. technically a hazmat situation because the oil, the fuel has to be treated and they have to clear it, so i'm hoping this will be clear well before the bulk of the traffic starts to build on 101. because you're watching it right now, you can get off at whipple,
4:48 am
before you get to the issue, otherwise you have to travel a lot farther south toward the congestion for willow and 101 and you don't want to do that. we will give you a note on the peninsula side. there's another crash on the east bay side of the san mateo bridge, that may be a factor but we're getting confirmation on chp on where exactly that s on the freeway or just off. there is a little bit of fog reported in the areas of the north bay. we also showed you some of that in the tri-valley, looking at our dublin camera. you see some fog, so this is westbound your commute over here toward the dublin interchange but you can't see the dublin grade from our camera, around tassajara. that is an issue as folks rise up into the hillside. the fog staying at the same height, the hills rise up and you meet it. oakland is a nice drive, this high-rise at high street is just fine. no one was hurt in this crash yesterday in oakland. it happened near highway 24 in broadway. chp posted the photo, happened during the round of wet weather. >> firefighters quickly
4:49 am
contained a fire at elmwood correctional facility in milpitas. it reportedly started in one of the barracks, where inmates sleep. no one was injured and deputies say it may have started from electrical issues but are still investigating the cause. dramatic video of sweden, this is this morning, showing a bus on fire. this is in stockholm. take a look here. you can see those flames. look at that, just burning there. the smoke rising from the bus, that thick, black smoke there. the rescue workers said the bus hit a barrier near the entrance of a tunnel. this caused the gas tank to leak and explode. the driver was treated for burns, but thankfully, no passengers were on board at the time. an arizona zoo has no plans to euthanize a jaguar that attacked a woman who went over a barrier to try to get the perfect selfie. this is video of the woman on the ground afterward. the zoo says the jaguar attacked her when she climbed over barricades and stood too close to the enclosure's fence.
4:50 am
the cat gashed the woman's arm. zoo workers say she did return later in the day to apologize. >> she said she loved the zoo, she hated for to us get bad publicity because she comes here often. >> witnesses distracted the animal with a water bottle, had to act quickly because the cat still had its claws in the woman's arm. the cat remained in its closure through the entire incident. >> 4:50 right now. developing for you, crews are searching for a marine who went missing during a back country skiing trip in the sierra nevada. first lieutenant matthew craft left for his trip on the sierra high round on february 23rd. he was supposed to complete it monday near bridgeport, northeast of yosemite national park. on friday, crews found the jeep that craft parked at the start of his trip, about 130 miles south of bridgeport. that search is mainly airbased because the risk of avalanches, you may remember, heard a series of winter storms dumped record

amounts of snow in the sierra. it is 4:50. now to the 2020 presidential race, a growing list of democratic candidates backing the legalization of marijuana nationwide. former texas congressman beto o'rourke is the latest to support the idea. in recent weeks, california senator kamala harris has called it "the smart thing to do." new jersey senator cory booker is sponsoring a legalization bill as well. senators kamala harris as well as senators gillibrand and bernie sanders of vermont support it. coming up on "today in the bay," "nbc bay area responds." >> a gift card purchase gets hung up online. we go to the company's ceo to get results. i'm consumier investigator chris chmura, "nbc bay area responds," next. first, today is the last day to use payless gift cards in store credits. last month the shoe store chain

and good monday morning to you. right now, a live look out of fremont. a few cars on the road there, getting started with their week. mike will have a look at the commute for you coming up in just a bit. nbc bay area responds to a san jose woman whose designer backpack purchase hit a snag. >> consumer investigator chris chmura and his team helped iron things out. >> good morning. skr jessica williams tried to use her $100 gift card to buy a

drawstring backpack on the true religion website. she says she redeemed her card at checkout but the purchase didn't go through. so she tried again, and the card was empty. so if you're keeping score, no money, and no bag, also, no response from customer service. in the meantime, that backpack sold out. so she asked us for help. we reached out to true religion and we heard back from the ceo, telling us that jessica was going to personally get an apology, and more than just a refund. she did, she got her full $100, a personalized note right there, as well as more than $400 in merchandise. the company told us that they dropped the ball, and will work to implement better customer service processes. we're so glad we could help jessica. maybe we can help you, too. call us any time, the number is 888-996-tips or online at nbcbayarea.com/responds. >> thanks, chris.

coming up here on "today in the bay," kari has a look at your work week forecast, possibly some rain? >> only slight chances and it's going to be nice to finally dry out. here is a live look in palo alto. our temperatures start out very chilly with some low 40s and headed into the upper 40s later this morning, and yes, you'll notice the sunshine. we'll talk more about that coming up next. taking you from that look that kari showed you nearby, 101 does now have a traffic alert for that exit. i'm going to show you, this will explain things a little bit better. plus, the fight over the border wall is about to heat up again. the action the president plans to take today that already has top democrats saying no. a live report from capitol hill, coming up next. you're watching "today in the bay." 4:56. for 50 years, cracker barrel

barrage of hail comes raining down on the bay area. "today in the bay" continues right now. >> i was marveling at that. >> i was, too. i was swept away by it clearly. >> i saw it on a car in downtown san jose yesterday and i was like, where did that come from? that car was coming from that area but i was like, what is that? >> it was amazing. a lot of people are talking about it. >> mother nature wanted to give me some sparks for my birthday yesterday. >> that's right! >> happy belated. >> thank you. we had some thunderstorms rolling through, hail, that was pretty amazing. now, all of that has cleared out. here is a live look outside in dublin. you can notice, if you notice the fog, it's in the distance, so we've seen some drifts of fog moving by, especially the tri-valley, and our temperatures are very chilly with some upper 30s. it will be warming up today with some sunshine. headed over to mike, you've been looking at what's happening with the traffic alert on the peninsula. >> we have and we just got video
5:00 am
in from ethan, our photographer out there. this big rig is the starting point for this traffic alert. you see there's no bumper on the front. the bump ear apparently came off the rig. the rig ran over the bumper and i don't know if this rig's fuel tank is punctured but you'll see another car involved in this that came along past that, also i believe hit the bumper. i think this is the fuel that spilled there. there's cleanup that has to go on. you see some liquid leaking out from that mazda. that is why there is extended cleanup. out to the map we have the closure over here in palo alto, at woodside as folks are coming southbound on 101. you'll see slowing. the woodside off-ramp is closed. you see slowing on the sensors around el camino. get off at whipple and avoid any of the lights or folks tapping their brakes as they see the closure of the off-ramp. the speed sensors may start to slow. a traffic alert simply means there's an impact to the commute but doesn't say how long that will last so we'll track that closely. still no update in ha
