a little bit chilly this morning. a nice view of the green behind the international orange golden gate bridge. right now 49 degrees. that is as warm as it gets this morning. you can see 49 around sfo and san mateo but look at morgan hill, 38 degrees. 41 in napa and this time of year you can start off in the 30s and get into the mid-70s by 3:00 this afternoon. morgan hill 75, similar in san jose in the tri-valley, low 70s around san francisco and oakland. a few high clouds today is worth watching. as we widen out the view off of the west we have a gorgeous finish to the weekend. all of the clouds lead to changes in the seven-day forecast. we'll give you the countdown when rain makes a big comeback, in our forecast about 15 minutes from now. >> can't we just enjoy the gorgeous weather while we have it? it's good, you're warning us what's to come, you're telling us enjoy this while this lasts. we'll see you in 15, rob,

thanks. developing news out of contra costa county, a woman found dead in a car after a crash that blocked traffic for hours. police say it may have been the result of a shooting. the chp responded to an accident on highway 4 north of concord just before 2:30 yesterday afternoon. when officers arrived on the scene of the single car crash they found bullet holes on the driver's side of the silver honda sedan. investigators say the woman was from antioch, but they have not released her name. the preliminary investigation is of a suspicious death. freeway shootings have become a common issue in the east bay over just the past few years. it has been another day of grieving in the wake of friday's devastating attack in new zealand. the death toll has risen to 50 and dozens more victims remain in the hospital. here in the bay area, more prayerry jills and as roz plater reports, a fierce message for those who seek to terrorize the muslim community.

and it bust his window. >> reporter: the gunman then sped off. 28-year-old brenton harris tarrant has been charged with murder. in court he made a hand gesture associated with white supremacists. at the san jose gathering, mourners had a warning for those who would seek to terrorize the muslim community. >> it does not matter how many white supremacists are out there. it does not matter how many bullets you have. it does not matter how many people you kill. we're going to continue to be muslim, our sisters will continue to wear their hijab, our brothers will continue to pray. >> reporter: in san jose, i'm roz plater, "nbc bay area news." robbed and carjacked during a quick stop at the atm, that's what happened to one bay area man. we have a picture of the person police are calling their primary suspect. it's hard to see there, captured by a camera the at the wells fargo atm in half moon bay.

it happened around 8:00 friday night. while the victim was taking out cash, this man pulled a gun on him and demanded not only his money, but his car keys. the victim then turned around and noticed two other men already sitting in his bmw, and all three men drove off. officers in the east bay spotted the car a short time later but couldn't catch up when the car hit city streets in hayward. if you recognize three men, napa police need your help tracking them down. they are suspected of burglarizing a napa hotel. they pulled up to a napa hotel around 5:30 yesterday morning, in an older white chevy s10 truck with a toolbox in the bed. it's not clear what exactly they stole. please call napa police if you see them. to a brazen act by a former prisoner that landed him back in jail. an antioch man is accused of making and selling illegal guns one block away from a high school and two blocks away from

the police station all while on parole. here is a look at the evidence founded athe 33-year-old terry ferguson's house. he was arrested ned morning. he was making unregistered fully automatic handguns and rifles. ferguson is facing several felony charges. the body of a miss vag lay hoe snowboarder has been found. 41-year-old danison crowder disappeared while snowboarding at northstar ski resort alone. search and rescue teams found his body wednesday. these are pictures from his facebook account where family and friends have been posting an outpouring of love and support. a push from law enforcement to keep st. patrick's day safe. dui checkpoints are up across the bay area, as many people are celebrating this weekend, this one in milpitas. officers plan to screen drivers for signs of drinking or drugs into the early morning hours tomorrow. they say the biggest problem is drivers convincing themselves that they're okay to drive, when they're not.

two years ago. sanders will hold a rally next sunday, march 24th, at great meadow park at ft. mason. the event is free and the public is welcome. sanders spent yesterday, this video is from that, campaigning in nevada. it is still unclear whether it's actually going to happen, but there's been a lot of teasing about whether former president, former vice president joe biden will enter the presidential race. last night, he may have showed his hand. >> i'm the most progressive record of anybody running for -- anybody who would run. good morning. thank you for joining us this morning. >> good morning, kira. >> we'll see you at 8:00. we look forward to that, but ahead of that, we want to have a little chat with you. beto o'rourke kicked off his campaign this week with a three-day swing through iowa. you were on the ground there talking with voters and candidates. what did you hear? >> well, it's interesting. look, i have some one on one interviews with beto o'rourke and amy klobuchar and in many ways, they really are the yin and yang of being able to appeal to iowans in particular and i will say that iowans gravitate to candidates like beto o'rourke, who are these inspiring, optimistic, let's can't we all get along candidacies in 2008, barack obama among the democrats and mike huckabee among the republicans, the two most optimistic candidates and both came out of iowa with the win. there's that version of it. amy klobuchar was the midwesterner get things done messenger with me in this today

and that also has an appeal with a certain chunk of iowa voters. i think they both sort of present the two almost competing types of messages to appeal to them. but i tell you this, with the iowans, i came away with one larger impression, which is joe biden's got a lot of work to do, because while joe biden is well-known, all of these democrats seem to be interested in essentially test driving a whole bunch of new cars before they sit there and decide whether the guy from delaware is the one they're going to settle on. they know what biden's about. how is biden going to handle the next six months as these voters test drive all these other cars. they may fall in love with one of the other ones before they come back to old joe. >> lots of cars to be test driven similar to the republican pool, just a few years ago, and speaking of the winner of that car race, so to speak, president trump issued his first veto this week, after he lost a number of

republican senate votes on his national emergency executive order. what does this is a about president trump's relationship with his own party? >> well, i think it shows you that intellectually he is still at war with his party on how to define conservative ideology, because those 12 i really think spoke for probably another 25 that if they felt politically they could have done it, would have done it. they have a smaller government view of the constitution, a more stricter interpretation of it, and they're not a fan of expanded executive power, but i actually look at the number 12 and think boy, this shows you the president's power politically. he got a whole bunch of senators who don't agree with him to vote with him anyway. that is, to me, the bigger takeaway. anybody up in 2020 sans one senator decided to vote with the president even though they weerically didn't agree with them, including a senator from north carolina. i think the vote showed his

scandal has been a wake-up call and the seminar couldn't have been more timely. families at the event learned the best strategies for getting into the top colleges, the legitimate way, this after wealthy parents allegedly paid bribes, cheated and even posed their children as athletes for college entrants. >> we see colleges scrambling to make sure there's no hint of privilege. the hidden thread we see is the system is tilted but this reveals, you know, a lot more clearly just how tilted it can be for certain families. >> counselors say the process starts with an honest essay written by the student, not the parents, no exceptions, and it's always a good idea to apply to multiple schools instead of pinning hopes on just one or two. now to kidnapping confusion. los angeles county deputies thought they were being called out to a crime but it was a music video shoot. wednesday someone called 911 saying they saw two men holding

up another man at gunpoint and said his hands were taped together. turns out the men were shooting a music video, but the gun they were using was very real, so deputies ended up arresting one of the men on a weapons charge. can the apple watch save your life? a new study shows the device can track irregular heartbeat. could it screen for atrial fibrillation, afib is a heart condition that can cause a stroke if it doesn't get checked out by a doctor. 2,100 people were flagged and asked to consult a doctor and a third did indeed have afib. a lot more research is needed say experts. happening today, if you want to trade the bay for some aloha vibes, there is a new nonstop flight. southwest airlines will make its maiden voyage to hawaii, the

first flight will take off from oakland international airport this morning, and head to honolulu. more flights from oakland to hawaii will roll out in the coming months and service from san jose will begin. now to the east bay, where irish pride was on full display as tens of thousands of people came out to dublin's st. patrick's day parade. ♪ the celebration in dub slin a big deal every year, with dozens of floats, bands and community organizations. it's followed by a big festival downtown, with more than 200 vendors, as many as 80,000 people turn out each year. wow. >> i'm at this parade and i really, really love it. it's really fun, and i just can't believe i can see it. >> it's a great way to celebrate st. patrick's day, and get the girls out to have a little fun and we got great weather after all the rain, so it was a great way to spend a saturday

afternoon. >> this is the parade's 36th year, one of the biggest st. patrick's day celebrations on the west coast. let's check in now meteorologist rob mayeda with a look at our sunday forecast for st. patrick's day. it was a gorgeous day to get out and watch a parade yesterday. there was also the one in the city. >> about as nice as the weather can get. >> yes. >> and name appropriate, dublin, matching the irish part of the green rolling hills around the tri-valley. san francisco pretty start to the morning, patchy, low clouds near the coast, 49 degrees and high clouds out there making for a pretty view for your sunday morning. speaking of dublin, 42 degrees. we'll see numbers in the mid-70s this afternoon. so picture perfect weather again around the tri-valley. san jose 46 degrees. highs climbing through the 70s today and with the temperature starting to warm up, and the abundant sunshine, the allergy report probably not so good if you're allergic to cedar, pine or oak.

tree pollen very high, no doubt you noticed that and maybe appreciate those showers for the middle part of the week and take some of the pollen out of the air. temperature this is morning chill chilly,'s special around morgan hill, santa rosa and napa. upper 30s to low 40s. by the afternoon we'll see numbers in the mid-70s inland, including santa rosa and sonoma, ukiah up to about 76 degrees. 75 in morgan hill and san jose and we should see 70s around downtown san francisco, over to oakland, and upper 60s near half moon bay. storm ranger not seeing much underneath, just high clouds and patchy, low clouds out near the coast. the rain chances will be picking up as we get into late tuesday and wednesday. so the weekend ends much like the way it started with mostly clear skies and a few high clouds again as we go through the afternoon like we're seeing this morning and probably more low clouds starting to approach the coast. let's jump ahead to the first of our two rain chance this is week. next chance of rain comes in, notice the time stamp late tuesday into early wednesday

morning, and very likely from there, some periods of on and off again showers, so mainly impacting tuesday night and probably through the day off and on for wednesday. then the showers start to shut down by thursday evening, friday night into saturday, not as good. looking into next weekend, starting off with rain on saturday and maybe a little bit of clearing as we get towards sunday, so the rain patterns starting to pick up, but you'll notice roller coaster ride on your regional seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. let's show you the progression of temperatures for san francisco, we think today probably the warmest day of this little three-day stretch of near 70 degrees temperatures. tomorrow more of a seabreeze. temperatures cool off and the clouds for tuesday leading up to the midweek rain chances. valleys tomorrow in the inland east bay toward concord and the tri-valley could see numbers as warm as the upper 70s so the next two days the warmest in the seven-day forecast, rain makes an approach towards the evening

we have new video of a tribute down under. the iconic sydney opera house lit the sails with a silver fern, a symbol of solidarity with the people of new zealand, following friday's tragedy. now to viral video that went viral just yesterday, an australian senator who sparked outrage for blaming muslim immigration for the new zealand mosque shootings was caught on camera punching a protester who smashed a raw egg on his head. you can see the 17-year-old boy start to film with his phone before breaking the egg on the senator's head. the senator reacts by slapping and punching the teen. this all happened as senator frazier anning was holding a news conference. in recent weeks he linked muslim immigration to violence on muslims. the boy was arrested but let go without any charges. back here in the u.s., vermont senator and presidential hopeful bernie sanders is making his way back to the bay area.

terror, health care and immigration, the conversation went back to president trump. >> he has a better relationship with people like than he does with merkel and may. this is a crisis when you see a president that is bullying, intimidating and insulting your allies and cozying up with people who are regularly violating human rights. >> in new hampshire, washington governor jay ensley highlighted his priority and kirsten gillibrand proposing a bill that would reward public service. sorting faction from fiction a hoe cuss of a town hall event jackie speier held on the peninsula. this is the live stream in millbrae, after a review of what democrats had been working on in washington, speier took questions from the audience, several addressed the frustrating news coverage. she encouraged voters to find

several sources instead of relying on just one. >> it requires you to go online and go to many of the sites that exist that will sift through the fiction and the facts. "washington post" does a pinocchio test. they show up to four. unfortunately our president has a lot of pinocchios. >> she touched on gun control to health care to the d.r.e.a.m. act and sea level rise. they got their hands dirty. dozens of volunteers joined san jose leaders to clean up a major trouble spot for the city. coyote creek and the nearby tully ball fields have seen a lot of trash recently. there is also homeless encampment for a few homeless encampments nearby. yesterday mayor sam liccardo joined councilmembers and volunteers to pick up all the trash and get the ball field ready for little league. >> we've got an incredibly deeply committed community

that's ready to make their city more beautiful, and we want to take advantage of that energy. >> the cleanup was also part of mayor liccardo's week of events around the city. by the way, he canceled his state of the city speech this year, saying that actions speak louder than words. parents trying to help their child's college prospects gathered yesterday in the south bay. the meeting was taking an extra importance in the light of this past week's college cheating scandal. "today in the bay's" laura sanbol has tips on how parents are trying to get kids into college the right way. >> i think it's already different because of this scandal. >> reporter: college admissions counselor amy brennan already feeling the fallout from the college cheating scandal rocking the nation. wealthy parents allegedly paying bribes, even flat-out cheating to get their kids into top universities. >> we see colleges kind of scrambling to make sure that there's no hint of privilege. the hidden thread we see in this

scandal is that we know the system's tilted but this reveals a lot more clearly just how tilted it can be for certain fami families. >> reporter: families at this college prep seminar in cupertino are learning how to get into top colleges by the book. brennan says it starts with honesty. >> every year, we have families asking if we'll write their students' essay for them. we have parents trying to inflate student activities, and you know, i think we're seeing the hammer coming down. >> reporter: counselors advise students to think broadly and apply to several schools. take the right college entrance test for them at the right time, don't choose certain extracurricular activities because you think you should. think about why and how they'll be applied. finally, be a little edgy in entrance essays but be authentic. words she'll take to heart when helping her daughter apply. >> what i saw today reflect on who you are, your values, your interests, your goals and come one a plan that reflects your

uniqueness. >> reporter: "nbc bay area news." if you're keeping track, 15 people from the bay area are facing charges with the college admissions cheating scandal, they include ceos, one doctor, one lawyer, and the former sailing coach at stanford. could you read exactly what they're all accused of doing, on our website. we have detailed information on each person's case at nbcbayarea.com. suspended for hazing. cal poly's track team won't be able to compete for the next two months. you're looking at video from a track meet last year. the cal poly university says senior members of the team violated school rules by hazing younger members, that included making them drink alcohol and forcing them to participate in a scavenger hunt that included sexual lip explicit items. the team in total will miss seven track meets because of this suspension. now to better news, the

community of paradise continues to rebuild after the devastating camp fire and part of that healing came yesterday in the form of a baseball game at oracle park. the matchup between the paradise bobcats and the corning high school cardinals began with a $10,000 donation for paradise high. the school survived the fire but many of the athletic facilities did not. the opportunity to play on a professional field was a treat for all involved. >> to feel, smell the grass and all those little details from fans point of view, you don't get to see very often so for me it's incredible and for the boys they're awe-struck straightirig. >> i want to see one of our paradise kids hit a ball in the bay. >> reporter: since the town of paradise is mostly closed because of fire damage, the students go to class at a rented building close to the chico airport. the hope is to resume classes on campus in paradise this fall.

welcome back. uber is now working with law enforcement to investigate a scheme that we exposed. it involves fake driver accounts created with stolen information. now a california lawmaker is looking to make ride share companies verify driver licenses, as yet another person comes forward saying he's the victim of identity fraud. here is investigative reporter liz wagner. >> an uber driver contacted us after seeing our investigation. he says he was locked out of his account because someone created a duplicate account using his driver's license and a fake driver ended up picking up unsuspecting passengers for too two-months. uber driver jamante johnson couldn't launch his app. he couldn't figure out why, since he'd driven for uber for

four years. he went to the green light hub. a representative told him the company blocked his account because someone else started one in his name. >> someone had my i.d., it was my i.d. and my picture was cropped out and someone else's picture on there. >> reporter: what did the person in the picture look like? >> caucasian male. i didn't recognize him. >> reporter: clearly not you. not even close. >> no way. >> reporter: johnson says the uber representative told him the fake account was created two months earlier and that person made money driving passengers. we first exposed how fraudsters are setting up ride share accounts using other people's information and renting them out to anyone willing to pay. it's a way for people to get around background checks and car inspections. did you feel you were in danger? >> definitely. >> reporter: last year we showed you how unsafe it is. >> he turned left into oncoming traffic. >> reporter: johnson doesn't

understand why uber's technology would allow someone to start a duplicate account that's obviously fake. >> i know they're probably not responsible for someone having my information, but they should be able to block it from being used on their platform. that's what's concerning me. >> if people are stealing i.d.s and fraudulently essentially starting accounts as drivers, that's a big problem. >> reporter: assemblyman jordan cunningham says the state needs to make law enforcement and regulators at the public utilities commission work together to solve cases of identity theft, especially when it leads to phony drivers getting behind the wheel. the republican lawmaker from san luis obispo passed legislation last year aiming to give ride share users confidence their drivers are who they say they are, an uber driver from his district is facing trial for allegedly raping four college students in 2017. >> it sounds like while we've made some strides in trying to give the customer more power to

verify their driver, they're able to evade that all together. >> reporter: jamonte johnson uber let him know after he was kicked off the platform. we asked cunningham if ride share companies should be required to notify customers and drivers when they detect identity theft. >> they should be. you have to ask uber and lyft why they don't have an internal procedure to notify compromised. >> reporter: uber says it has a process of alerting customers with suspicious behavior but wouldn't offer details. it says it is engaging law enforcement in johnson's case and because of that can't comment beyond saying his account was turned back on. lyft has a team that investigates fraudulent behavior. johnson is relieved he can drive again. he says is he disappointed in his long time employer. >> i'm clearly not the only person this is happening to so i

we're seeing a sunny start to your sunday morning right now. golden gate bridge looking very nice with the sunshine out there, 49 degrees around san francisco. toward emeryville you could see some morning haze out there, looking to the west back toward san francisco 48 degrees, mostly sunny skies and san jose continuing that trend of clear skies to start the morning, 46 degrees. so you see a little bit of dust and haze in the sky, but you probably also notice especially if you have allergies the pollen counts have come up especially for tree pollen, cedar, pine and oak. that will be an issue until we get some rain back in here

around tuesday night and wednesday. in the meantime, enjoy an early taste of spring weather. spring officially arrives wednesday afternoon but today it's here in the bay area with mid-70s. headed into the afternoon temperatures in the mid to upper 70s from pleasanton toward walnut creek, peninsula temperatures today upper 60s to low 70s including downtown san francisco, and north bay temperatures will be climbing through the mid-70s, even though this morning about 39 degrees to start the day in santa rosa. now, changes will start to arrive really during the day tuesday. increasing clouds from the storm which is off to the west here will toss high clouds our way to wrap up the weekend but bigger changes will arrive late monday into tuesday, so notice hour by hour, not much different from yesterday's forecast. high clouds at times and patchy, low clouds down near the coast. tuesday now, midafternoon we're back in the clouds, and then by tuesday night and wednesday, rain starts to come back in, and it looks like that rain for

wednesday off and on during the day. so in terms of rain totals here is an early estimate of what this midweek storm could bring. generally about a quarter inch to a third of an inch of rain for most of bthe bay area. by march storm standards that's not unusual. north bay a half inch or more and same around the santa cruz mountains and another chance of rain as we head towards next weekend, so wednesday into thursday some showers, and then friday into saturday another chance of seeing a little more rain and then sunday maybe a few lingering showers but right now if you're making some plans early for next weekend, sunday appears to be the drier of the two days. so enjoy the next two days. warm weather, san francisco should be in the 70s for today at least. might get a little bit close to that for tomorrow but east bay valleys will have another warm day for tomorrow, the numbers in the mid-70s and then we trend cooler with the rain chances coming back tuesday into wednesday and another chance for next weekend. so the weather has been so nice
