ad lib live picture - trans america shot welcome to monday morning. taking a live look outside, transamerica pyramid of san francisco. look at the lights glistening out there. coming off a great weekend across the bay area, really across california it's been nice. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm scott mcgrew. marcus washington has the day off. let's get a check of your weather on this monday morning. >> it's going to be another warm one, last few days of winter. a live look in palo alto, we start out with some low 50s headed into the low 60s later on. now our temperatures back to the upper 60s and low 70s. we'll see a high of 75 in livermore, and in san jose, and 74 today in napa. we'll have a couple more days of this before the rain returns. i'll talk about that in a few

minutes. mike, you're tracking a crash on highway 101 >> i am, it was a big deal coming up from south county an a smooth drive on the peninsula side of 101. past coyote creek golf course drive we had a crash, at one point it blocked three lanes that cleared over the last half hour to nothing, no more problem and shouldn't be any more slowing. overnight roadwork had 880 closed completely closed southbound from wynton to 92, that cleared at 4:00 a.m. the northbound cleared. overnight from midnight to 4:00 you may find partial or full closures over the next couple of days. there's a minor reroute. breaking news from overseas getting word about a shooting on a tram in the netherlands, happened in tu trecht, 25 miles south of amster zoom. several people have been shot, quite a few, one person is dead.

police are looking into the possibility of a terror attack. we'll bring you definitely emt we get them. a fire at an oil refinery outside houston. people nearby are told to shelter in place but local officials gave the all clear a few minutes ago, despite what you're seeing on your tv screen. these are live pictures. they're calling this a controlled burn. the fire started yesterday. a spokesperson for the refinery says the fire may continue throughout the morning. on saturday, there was a fire at an exxon refinery just about 12 miles away. back here at home, two separate shootings on east bay freeway, one woman dead and police looking for the gunman. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell is live near concord this morning with the latest for us. bob? >> reporter: laura and scott, so far there have been no are earr according to chp and they have

not identified any suspects. both happened this weekend here in the east bay. one last night along eastbound 580 and livermore, the other one saturday afternoon close to where i'm at, highway 4 in contra costa county. sadly in that saturday shooting, a young woman was killed, 25-year-old destiny hillary. she lived in antioch, graduated from deer valley high school, worked as an office manager for a doctor, that all according to her linkedin profile. on saturday, someone shot several bullets into the driver's side of her honda sedan. she crashed at the willow road off-ramp, not clear if she died from the gunshots, the crash, or a combination of both. no indication if she was targeted or if it was a random attack. here is a long time family friend who we spoke with. >> i've never seen anything out of the ordinary, you know. it's not like that family that you're going oh, of course it would happen to them. i'm kind of a supporter of the second amendment, but you hear

about it all the time, and whoever did this, do the right thing and turn yourself in, and for the rest of our youth, stop this damned -- >> reporter: and last night in livermore, a 24-year-old woman was in the passenger seat of a car headed eastbound on 580, she was shot in her leg. she ended up pulling off at vasco road a few miles away, waited for an ambulance, taken to the hospital. her injuries are considered not to be life-threatening. reporting live in concord, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> bob, i got another one for you, another incident further north, a person shot on the freeway in roseville, it happened about 1:00 a.m. saturday on westbound interstate 80 near douglas boulevard. chp looking for a white suv that it thinks was involved in that shooting. motive for the shooting not yet clear. grief counselors are expected to be on hand at the pittsburg adult education center. its principal was shot over the

weekend. this morning, while that man clings to life, his wife is under arrest, accused of shooting him during an argument. "today in the bay's" roz plater has more on the emotional reactions from those who knew the couple well. >> reporter: friends and neighbors are dropping off flowers at the family home, paul schatzwell was shot here early saturday morning. michael bazinet is his childhood friend. the two couples were supposed to have dinner friday night but their plans fell through. he arrived at their home saturday morning find an unthinkable tragedy. >> i came back here at 7:00 in the morning to find the crime scene tape and police, i drove to the hospital as fast as i could, only to find out that it was even more horrible than i had imagined. >> reporter: police say schatzwell's wife, maria vidis, shot him during a domestic dispute. the news stunned their neighbors who described them as an ideal couple. >> never heard them argue,

nothing. it was very nice having them both as neighbors. >> reporter: no hint of trouble whatsoever? >> no, no, very wonderful, good "people." >> reporter: schatzwell is the principal at the pittsburg adult education center. friends say he is a dedicated educator and father of eight. they describe vidicy as a doting stay-at-home mom to their three young boys. >> i love both of those people, even still just don't know what happened. i don't know what happened. >> reporter: roz plater, "nbc bay area news." >> in addition to the adult education center, the school district plans to have grief counselors at the schools, the principal's youngest children attend. 4:36. a car robbery victim seems to have helped fremont police catch a man who broke into five cars over the course of two hours in the warm springs area of fremont saturday. the victim saw the thief driving away and threw a cinder block through the back window of the thief's car. police later found that car near

peralta and paseo padre. police are trying to figure out if he's responsible for a string of recent break-ins. in oakland, starting today, four church parking lots downtown will be open in the coming months, the william chapel baptist church, the west side missionary baptist church, corinthian baptist church and the mt. zion missionary baptist church, the program launched by the interfaith council of alameda county. security guards will stay overnight and portable toilets and drinking water will be set up. if you live in sonoma county, time running out to ask for help as crews work to clean up debris following massive flooding there. a final sweep begins today and ends friday. county officials declared a local health emergency due to the hazardous waste. the russian river overflowed. boeing 737 max grounded. the new government agency investigating the plane after

boeing news, its 737 max jets are coming under new federal scrutiny. the "wall street journal" is reporting the department of transportation is probing the faa's approval of that aircraft, this includes the safety system that may have played a role in a crash in indonesia in october and last week's crash in ethiopia. a grand jury is also issued a subpoena for documents related to the development of that plane. the accident sparking the biggest crisis boeing has faced in two decades, threatening sales of its fastest selling plane. first time home buyers are experiencing tougher conditions, as they search for their perfect moment. a new survey by bankrate.com says the toughest country is -- ranked 50th out of the top me crow areas. california is sixth. pittsburgh is the best for first-time buyers. bank rate takes into account affordability, jobs, market tightness, culture and safety. back to you, scott and laura. tough environment out there. >> it's a pretty penny.

fremont. a very happy monday morning to you. you think you're up early, these people are already on their way to work. we'll check in with mike about what's going on, on the freeway. >> we're already at work. well, put it mildly, this colorado family not a-moose-ed by what they found in their home. they heard glass breaking, it crashed into the family's basement, falling through a window well. he was tranquilized and released into a moose habitat. >> must have been so much snow on the roof, it was on the roof and fell through the window well. i believe it, coming back from tahoe, people had six, eight feet on their roofs. it's costing thousands to get it off. >> amazing. and so there is still the potential of more snow in the

forecast for the sierra, too as we go through the week. it's been a very hefty winter in terms of rain and snow, and then looking outside right now, it's nice to have a break. the weekend was beautiful. now, as we start out this new week, our temperatures start out mild with some mid-50s. we'll be in the mid-60s already by 11:00 and that's about where we should be for a normal high temperature and as you get dressed this morning, you need a jacket for the start of the day, and there may be short sleeves for the rest of the afternoon, as our temperatures will be even warmer than yesterday, reaching 75 in san jose, livermore and in antioch, and in oakland today, expect a high of 72, and 76 in ukiah. here is our next storm system that will be moving in for the first day of spring, which officially begins on wednesday. so we do still have a little while longer before that arrives, and as it does so, we'll start to see the cloud cover increasing starting out tomorrow especially during the afternoon and a slight chance of rain by tomorrow night, mostly

late and going into wednesday we'll see more rain spreading into the bay area especially for the south bay and areas south of the golden gate bridge, we'll see that continuing to work its way through with some off and on rain throughout the day on wednesday. during that time we're looking at the possibility of getting most of the bay area about a half inch of rain, farther to the north bay, in the north bay and up to an inch of rain for the rest of the bay area. with the next several storm systems we'll see additional rainfall going into the weekend. off and on rain, we're going back to a stormy weather pattern as spring begins and our temperatures headed down, so it will be 75 today. by the middle of the week we struggle to make it up to 60 degrees, in a couple of days and off and on showers, san francisco also cooling off and we'll be saying good-bye to the sunshine for a little while.

mike, you've been tracking the roads and a couple trouble spots. >> 880 the nimitz traveling south into fremont, a garbage truck was dropping debris off the back. chp will check that out. i've seen no slowing and no other problems since that initial report but we call that in. over here 24 eastbound just off of highway 13, you see that flip there, there is an earlier crash, a car went off the roadway. no lanes are blocked but there is flashing lights. it looks like there's at least a distraction getting away from the bay bridge getting to the bay bridge an easy drive in through the maze and out here, brentwood down 580 off of vasco road that avenue from discovery bay moving smoothly, as well as coming down off the north bay, carquinez bridge and benicia bridge. san mateo bridge easy flow 808 through oakland. we had the closure overnight from midnight to 4:00 from wynton to 92, that's cleared up but that may be the case for your drive over the next few

days. the next week, in fact, overnight closures in that stretch, again clearing by 4:00. back to you. >> let's look at that, mike, 880 in hayward back open today. that construction is between midnight to 4:00, this is tomorrow and wednesday, so impacting southbound lanes from win tn to 92. southbound lanes also closed at west "a" street, two northbound lanes closed as crews install new express lane signs. 4:41. today marks one year since stephon clark was killed by police in sacramento. a memorial will be held in his honor at the state capital. reverend al sharpton is expected to attend. officers mistook clark's cell phone as a gun and opened fire. prosecutors decided not to charge the officers involved and that led to widespread protests and arrests. 4:49. crews will return to the area devastated by the camp fire to clear debris.

more than 200 workers will return to paradise, cleaned up more than 200 properties before work was with us spended because of storms. some 11,000 properties are scheduled for cleanup and debris removal. happening today, the golden state warrior also take center stage in san francisco. they plan to announce the first shows to perform at the chase center this fall. it's the first in a series of events planned as part of reveal week which runs through friday. president trump is again calling out "saturday night live" for making fun of him. >> on twitter he's threatening a federal investigation over it. the commander in chief tweeting yesterday "the show is not funny and has no talent" specifically calling out the show keeps knocking him and "not presenting the other side" and calling it an advertisement without consequences. he has threatened to get the federal election commission or the federal communications

good morning, everyone. thank you for joining us. i'm scott mcgrew in for marcus this morning. >> i'm laura garcia. all i can think of is "poppies, poppies." get up, it's monday morning, time to get this week going. >> it was a beautiful weekend to see those poppies and get out there, but now as we get ready to head back to work, the nice weather continues, looking at antioch, and it's going to warm up into the mid-70s today. we're going to see more of this, but some changes ahead so i'll have more on that. mike, you're tracking a crash off of highway 24. >> it's off of highway 24. chp talks about this area kind of hilly on the shoulders and a car went off of the roadway eastbound 24, just past highway 13 so right there. a tiny bit of slowing shows up on our sensors but not as much as it was for the last five minutes. maybe crews arrived, i don't have detail. this is getting away from the bay bridge. a smooth drive for the rest of the bay. you guys take us to the south

bay. new this morning, several people recovering after a mysterious smell at the post office in downtown san jose. this was the scene just after 4:00 this morning, north first street near james park, st. james park. we're told by the fire department several employees became nauseous because of that odor, but it is not a gas leak. they're looking into it. happening today, hope village will host a community meet being the relocation of san jose's sanctioned tent community for 17 homeless people. on the city side, hope homeowners will support it, on the other side neighbors who hope the city will consider a different location.
