trying to bring the sunshine. >> we'll bring a bit of it. but we do have those spring showers. that's thanks to a cold front that swept in overnight. i want to start with the wide look. if i zoom in closer, you can see where the rain tracked southward. we have showers pushing into sacramento. the north dbay saw one to two inches. the rest of the bay area, not much. still a good amount of rain overnight. definitely heavier pockets this morning especially if you were up from 1:00 to 5:00 a.m. as far as the rain into this afternoon, if you're planning your day, don't worry, you won't need your umbrella. a lot of that rain will move out. it's near the tri valley, livermore. as far as the temperatures, 50s, 40s. the daytime high will climb into the 50s, low 60s.

you just need your jacket. i'll have a look at your seven-day in 15 minutes. >> thanks. we want to take you live to washington, d.c. where after 22 months and three dozen indi indictmen indictments, robert mueller's final report is in. lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are waiting to see the findings of the two-year investigation into possible russian election meddling. nothing within the report has been revealed just yet. one thing we know for sure is the justice department says there will be no more indictments. congress could get nsnippets of the report as soon as today. >> reporter: with robert mueller's investigation officially over, the new question inside washington is what is inside the report and how much will william barr release? >> it may be that there will be particular aspects of the report this don't become public because they're classified or they touch on other sensitive national security matters.

>> reporter: barr promising transparency. in a letter telling congress he may be able to brief them as early as this weekend on principal conclusions, but that's not enough for top democrats. >> i think the demand of the public is overwhelming to see the report when it's on such a serious matter, and it will be made public. >> if the justice department doesn't release the whole report or tries to keep parts of it secret, we will certainly subpoena the parts of the report, and we will reserve the right to call mueller or to testify before the committee or to subpoena him. >> reporter: mueller's investigation has led to indictments of 34 people, including six with ties to president trump. but no charges alleging collusion between russia and the trump campaign. before its release, president trump again taking a swipe at the investigation. >> there was no collusion. there was no obstruction. everybody knows it. it's all a big hoax. >> reporter: the president's

and our facebook and twitter feeds are updated 24/7 so you can follow us @nbcbayarea. state and federal officials are investigating a possible case of election meddling in the east bay. it's all over one suspicious e-mail that someone should not have opened. the e-mail set off alarms at the registrar of voters office in martinez. there's concern that e-mail could have been designed to hack into the elections internet system. there's no indication that happened, but official says they're not taking any chances. feds and the state say they're involved to ensure security wasn't breached. a lethal combination of cocaine and alcohol mixed with an underlying heart condition killed san francisco's public defender, according to the medical examiner. jean elle has more on the autopsy report.

>> reporter: the medical examiner's report says the official cause of death is accuse mixed drug toxicity with cocaine and ethanol. cardiovascular disease is a contributing factor. adachi was san francisco's public defender for over a decade. people who knew him in and out of court say drug use contributing to his death is a shock. >> i'm very surprised by the report. i've seen jeff both in and out of court hundreds and hundreds of times. i would never have thought of jeff as anyone who even came close to using a controlled substance. >> reporter: the report provides more details about the hours leading up to the 59-year-old's death on february 22nd. it says he spent the day with a woman in north beach, they ate cannabis edibles and had dinner, drank some champagne. the woman told investigators he complained of upper abdominal pain and began sweating profusely. she suggested going to the hospital but mr. adachi refused. it also says the cocaine in his system was a small amount, and

it was likely taken that day. colleagues say they hope the public remembers how adachi remember the way he served as a public official, not the way he died. >> i hope the way jeff left this world is not going to affect his legacy. those of us in the legal system think of him as an innovator, an advocate. police are patrolling oakland's fruitvale b.a.r.t. station this morning following a stabbing on a train last night. yesterday two men got into a fight on the train heading towards the station late this afternoon. one of them stabbed the other, b.a.r.t. stopped service. after two hours the station reopened. the man who got stabbed is going to be okay but the other man still hasn't been caught. b.a.r.t. is looking at surveillance footage to get a better idea of what happened and where the attacker went. san francisco police say they arrested a man who stole a gun off a baggage carrousel at

man brought a loaded firearm with more than 80 rounds of ammunition on to the campus of sf general hospital. thankfully deputies defused the situation. sam brock has more on how this unfolded and what security changes that incident has prompted. >> reporter: in the heart of the zuckerberg san francisco general hospital campus, you'll find building 5, the main hospital facility. also the location cedric reynolds, a 38-year-old with a history of weapons and drug charges, brought a loaded firearm on february 7th at 6:40 p.m. >> this actually was a very dangerous situation. a significant threat to the public safety of the hospital. >> reporter: undersheriff matthew freeman says he can't recall a similar situation at sf general in 28 years with the department and applauds deputies for preventing possible catastrophe. >> they used time, distance, and shielding which allowed them to render the situation safe,

taking the subject into custody with minimal use of force and without anyone being injured. >> reporter: as for the disturbing details, according to court documents, surveillance footage shows reynolds holding a firearm in his left hand and pointing said gun at the entrance doors. he walked into a public entrance with a semiautomatic 9-millimeter handgun, two boxes of ammunition, one 19 rounds, another 50 rounds. documents show reynolds rang the buzzer for psychiatric emergency services and was quote unwittingly afforded admission by a nurse, although the hospital says he snuck in behind someone coming out. >> this is the exterior door into the psych emergency services. he was buzzed through that door. however, there is after that, there is an interior door that you also must be buzzed in and he was not allowed access through that door. >> reporter: deputies confronted and eventually apprehended reynolds in that middle space. the hospital says staff quickly

morning, it's the first weekend of spring. we are taking a gorgeous look at the always beautiful golden gate bridge. we saw some showers this morning, vianey says a cloudy day but clearing this afternoon. good news, the sunshine is on its way. the personal information of millions of disaster survivors including people who survived the north bay wildfires is at risk. a government report says fema improperly shared the data of 2.3 million people with a federal contractor. it includes things like bank account numbers and addresses. now the survivors of hurricanes harvey, irma, maria, and the california wildfires are a possible targets of identity theft. fema says it will now require additional privacy training for contractors. in willow glen, someone is shooting at cars with a pellet gun or some sort of weapon.

one woman was driving by when updates at oracle park. >> if it had just been a few, a second earlier, it would have hit him or that driver window, and he would have gotten injured, no matter what. and then the possibility of him swerving because he's scared or got freaked out. >> the couple told their story on facebook and soon other people started replying that it's happened to them as well. police say victims need to call 911 immediately so they can go out and investigate. we like the house in hillsborough just the way it is. that's what homeowners say. the house off 280, hillsboro announced a lawsuit against the

homeowner, calling her outdoor decor a public nuisance. a legendary musician is coming out of retirement to headline this year's outside lands music festival in san francisco. he doesn't want to be paid for it. paul simon will close out the festival on august 11th at golden gate park. simon retired from touring last year. this is his first time to outside lands. he says he likes how the music is preserving golden gate park. let's go to vianey and our forecast. places like golden gate park so lush and green because of the rain we've had, but you say the sun may be here. >> it's a little cloudy right now.

>> it is. >> but once this storm moves out we'll get some clearing out there. this is what it looks like in san francisco, 51 degrees. wind speeds at 14 miles per hour. here's how radar is doing. you can see now that system is already starting to make its move out, and that did move in overnight. you probably were woken up by rain or had an early morning errand to run, or running out right now, you don't have to worry about the rain now. look where the rain is. a lot of it is trekking southward. this storm moved from the north what will be left behind from scattered showers is some good clearing. right now, 52 degrees in san francisco. 63 in hayward. 52 in san jose. the microclimate highs for today will be cool. still going to need some form of coat or jacket. you won't necessarily need your umbrella. that's always great to hear especially on a weekend. a lot of people were worried this would be a washout.

it's not. we're talking upper 50s. 59 in oakland. low 60s out on the map. 62 for san jose. 62 up through ukiah. all right. a lot of people also thinking about heading to lake tahoe this weekend. be mindful, we are tracking a couple of snow showers today. so check those road conditions. temperatures will be at 49 degrees. into sunday, things will kind of taper off a bit. they'll calm down. check out monday. we're tracking an additional storm system, expected to bring a lot of snow for the sierra. monday will be the worst travel day into tuesday, wednesday, and even thursday. if you had plans to drive back early monday morning, leave sunday night instead. how much snow are we expecting? for this initial system, already seeing some snow showers. 2 to 3 inches.

check out what happens once we move into tuesday, wednesday, thursday. right now the models are showing a lot of snow. over 20 inches in some areas. that means a couple of feet. that will have a big impact on our high snow impact totals. by 1:30, nice clearing out there. then we stay pretty clear all of saturday. into sunday we do get some cloud cover that rolls in. sunday, it's going to be dry. you don't have to worry about the rain until tomorrow. into monday, overnight sunday, 2:30, even into your early monday morning commute, we'll get showers and rain. this is our big system here. into tuesday, we get a little bit of a break, a couple showers, our big system expected to creep in tuesday night into wednesday. look at all of that snow for the sierra. that's going to be our big rain maker this week. as far as estimated rain totals, we add the highest rain totals up to the north bay.

martinez. there's concern that e-mail could have been designed to hack into the elections internet system. there's no indication that happened, but official says they're not taking any chances. feds and the state say they're involved to ensure security wasn't breached. a sexual assault on a high school campus in the east bay. it happened to a 14-year-old girl at clayton valley charter high school in october of 2017. now she and her family are suing the school because of lack of security. the lawsuit claims school officials knew that the area where the attack took place was a known sexual hangout and the school did nothing to make it safe. her mother is speaking out to us. she asked us not to reveal her identity in an attempt to protect her daughter.

facebook account where she made those accu sasations following harsh backlash. in the post she said she was sexually harassed while working in the sports medicine department at cal. she also claims a coach threatened he would have her fired if she didn't have sex with him. >> this cuts to the core. it hurts really bad. we want to do everything we can as a program to support the investigation where people can be held accountable for their actions. we have a great deal of concern for anybody who would be subject to this type of alleged behavior. >> it is unclear if the coach has been accused is still working at berkeley. with the swipe of a credit card, an east bay fugitive blew his cover. you're looking at cody tripp, on the run for seven years, until now. tripp was wanted for killing a man at a house party in castro valley in 2012. police have been looking for him ever since. fast forward to wednesday, tripp was arrested for fraud after police say he used a stolen credit card.

detectives say they're grateful for that purchase, because it helped them crack the case. >> i think the lesson is to be diligent in every case, take all the leads to their fullest extent, accept the assistance from other agencies that are trying to be helpful. >> from utah, tripp will be extradited back to california to face possible murder charges. look, if you can, this man's front yard display is grabbing a lot of attention. so much so that people are stealing it. we're talking about these mannequins at jason's home in santa rosa. this started earlier this week. a neighbor complained about this tall fence. the city forced him to lower it. before he chopped off the top, he set up a mannequin display. this morning he woke up to find some were gone. >> bummed me out. you know.

this is my property. people are crossing my -- over my fence, because they can. taking my things. >> he says he has ordered replacement mannequins. get ready to shell out more money to cross the golden gate bridge. the bridge district board approved raising the toll to nearly $10. that's within five years. that means for drivers who use invoice billing, the tolls will increase by 35 cents a year, bringing the toll from its current $8 to $9.75. the new toll for drivers with a fastrak will be $8.75, up from $7.25. the hike is desperately needed to pay for upkeep on the bridge and for improvements to bus and ferry services. >> the board is concerned about what drivers have to pay. but they also know that this is the way to fund the benefit for public transit in order to keep

let's talk about sierra spring snow. 5 to 10 inches through monday. look into tuesday, all the way through thursday. that is several feet of snow expected for the sierra into the work week. your best travel day if you're coming back from lake tahoe will be sunday. monday, not so much. you'll want to check the road. we'll get some good clearing around 2:00. look at that machlt j. majority of the rain is out of the area. sunday night into monday, another cold front will sweep in. mainly off to the north into south. north bay, santa rosa, napa will get the majority of the rain sunday night into monday. then we'll get a break monday night into tuesday. tracking another disturbance expected to bring more rain, widespread rain into tuesday. look at that wednesday, that's where all the feet of snow, all the snowfall is expected to fall. that's going to be a wet storm system looking ahead. as far as estimated rain totals, not a lot to of rain from that

are coming together to help fire victims they don't even know. >> reporter: colors of spring, bringing a sense of rebirth and renewal. but in the mendocino town of redwood valley, the contrast blackened by devastation, and the color william raby still sees in his mind. >> all i saw was red, and my wife woke up and says that's a fire. everything burned. >> reporter: the fires of october 2017 destroyed dozens of homes in redwood valley, killing nine people. raby and his family have lived in this trailer. >> four people and a big dog and a 35-foot travel trailer is cramped. >> reporter: but last week, an unusual construction crew began laying the foundation of raby's future. >> i tell you, we're building a house for one of the many people who lost their houses in these recent wildfires. >> reporter: the crew building raby's new home is made up of volunteers from the americorps service organization.

students getting life experience, one nail at a time. >> it feels amazing to be able to help someone go through this. i can only imagine what it's like to lose everything. >> reporter: the program, run through disaster relief group hope city, is helping rebuild homes for fire victims who can't otherwise afford it. >> they would be forever living in an rv or trying to couch surf. >> reporter: paul and his daughter simone are just over a month away from the keys to their new home. >> i'm so grateful that we're able to get back in the house again. >> this is my room. i want to put my bed right there. >> like the last crew of americorps students we had would sing. it's pretty fun, you know. >> reporter: the volunteers have rebuilt 21 homes in nearby lake county where joslin french has lived in a trailer since a devastating wildfire four years ago. >> a cute house, just perfect size. >> it finally feels like

he was recently rescued and came to your brand-new palo alto location. tell me about him. >> he's a little old man. we saw him at the shelter, he has what we call cherry eye. we were going to take him in. we knew he was a senior. we said we would do some surgery. he had a couple medical issues, so he wasn't a candidate for surgery. thank you. stinky breath. he's looking for a hospice home, someone who can take care of him for his end days. we're not sure how many there are. we can provide medical care. he's a happy boy. he likes to go on walks and likes other dogs. >> he has a cute face. so those cherry eyes are what a human would get, like a sty. but they get big and red. he has them in both eyes. he's just the cutest little thing, even with those cherry eyes. >> he can definitely see. he was staring me down in the

car this morning. >> he is really mellow. hopefully somebody who needs a companion and doesn't mind the fact that his days are numbers or perhaps his months are numbered because you don't really know how long he'll be around. gosh, if someone could give him a home, that would be wonderful. that's the perfect segue, if people are looking to foster, if they would like to test out to have a pet, you have a lot more than just jason. >> yes. we're coming into kitten season. we expect a busy season this year. so we really need people to come to pets in need or any animal shelter in their area, volunteer to be fosters. there will be a lot of kittens that will be coming into shelters. you're dealing with the space issue. >> you now have your two shelters, but you still need people to come and help out. this poor guy has four of his own cats and is fostering four
