>> i gave marcus a hard time for being so optimistic but look, this is better. look, you can see the fast track lanes are moving well. early backup at the bay bridge, it slowed the incline, they have the metering lights on and moving at a standard pace, so it's only backed up at the bay bridge toll plaza itself and moving better than it has for the last half hour. the rest of contra costa county moves nice and there's no delay for concord. even out of brentwood, discovery bay, moves slowly toward 580. slowing for 680 through pleasanton, 808 through hayward. 680 the off-ramp at mckee reopened after the earlier crash was cleared. back to you, laura. >> thank you, 6:02 right now. vindicated. that is a message from president trump and the white house this morning after the justice department released a summary of robert mueller's retuussia repo. dianne feinstein is calling the attorney gengeneral's four-page summary "inadequate." both sides of the aisle want to see his original findings,

"today in the bay's" tracie potts joins us live on capitol hill this morning to explain what is coming next. a very big day moving forward, tracie. >> well, it is, and laura, the summary may just be the beginning of this, because it's not just democrats. republicans, too, even the white house are saying put it all out there. let's see the evidence, and the full mueller report. we're getting reaction from the white house from capitol hill this morning. bottom line, mueller found that there was absolutely no collusion, just as the president said, but on the question of obstruction of justice, the evidence was split. some for, some against, mueller didn't come to a conclusion but his boss, the attorney general did, deciding not to prosecute, because of the inadequate evidence, and president trump is declaring that victory this morning. >> this was an illegal take-down that failed, and hopefully somebody's going to be looking at the other side,

investigators believe his wife maria vides, shot him with a hand gunafter an argument. prosecutors will seek murder charges against her. schatzwell was the principal at pittsburg adult education center. he had eight children. an open case an open-ended heartache for a grandfather of a san jose teenager gunned down without explanation. it's been two years and still no arrests. "today in the bay's" bob redell is live for us at san jose police headquarters with the latest on the search for the killer. bob? >> reporter: marcus, san jose police tell us they have not yet been able to identify or make any arrests of suspects in the murder of 19-year-old joseph viramontes. the last two years have been agonizing for his 74-year-old grandfather, carlos pardita. he says he can't eat or sleep without hearing his grandson asking him to do something to find his killer.

viramotntes whose mick name was smiley was a beloved teammate in the san jose 49ers youth football league for a number of years. his grandpa told us somebody has to know something and he wants them to come forward so he can feel just a little relief from his crushing pain. >> i can't replace him. i can't bring him back. the only thing i can do is find this jerk that did this, okay. it's two years now. and he's running the streets free. somebody knows something. >> reporter: take a look at your tv screen. here are the details of joseph viramontes 'murder, shot sometime between friday march 24th and saturday march 25th, this was back in 2017. he was found on bard street near toyon elementary here in san jose. his grandfather did put up a reward and so did crimestoppers. if you know anything, you can report it anonymously to

crimestoppers, you can see it there, 408-947-7867. reporting live outside san jose police headquarters, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> hoping for some relief for that family. thank you, bob. 6:09 for you right now. if you live or work in oakland, the city has a warning for you this morning. on wednesday, usgs is teaming up with oakland and alameda county to test its earthquake alert system. the state office of emergency services will send a shake alert to all cell phones in that downtown area at 11:00 a.m. the government already uses the system to send out amber alerts and severe weather alerts. the idea is to give people a few seconds' warning in the event of a real earthquake. 5:08 right now. the legal battle over the iconic flint stone house in hillsborough is heating up and you can see from the home, you can see it from interstate 280. it is now owned by the fang family which owns "the examiner."

hillsborough leaders recently sued calling the home's most recent decorations a nuisance but they're battling a solid legal team, including former san francisco supervisor angela alito. its know secret, many people feel priced out of living in the bay area but a new silicon valley poll a whopping 44% of residents are considering moving away. 77% of those who said they plan to move in the next few years say it's because of housing costs. 51% cited traffic as a major factor as well. poor quality of life came in at 45%, and taxes came in at 41%. a silicon valley leadership group conducted that poll every year. time to head outside this monday morning. a live look at the "s" curve in san rafael in the north bay. rain already making its way into the bay area. it's going to spread south from there. rain will linger on and off today and throughout our work week. another soggy week for us, as we

look at the last couple weeks here of march. >> yes, thanks for summing up the forecast. now back to you. no, i'm just kidding. here is a look at storm ranger as we see where the rain is falling as we see it mostly north of santa rosa, and we've seen the off and on showers there in the same area for the past couple of hours. that's where the rainfall totals will be higher. this is a very slow-moving system. so as we start out, heading out the door, most of us won't see any of that rain, in fact, it may not be until early afternoon. we start to see the showers coming back into the tri-valley, livermore, seeing the temperatures in the upper 60s, by the time that last school bell rings. we'll start to see the leading edge of that rain making it into parts of the east bay. i'll be tracking that for you with another update in a few minutes. mike, it seems like it's a predictable drive. >> it is. a couple of early crashes i was worried about during the 5:00 hour, the 6:00 hour has been great. looking at the tri-valley, the

direction from san rafael. kari is watching the rain for the north bay drivers. we'll show you how the drive is shaping up for the rest of your bay. good morning. i'm frank holland at cnbc global headquarters. here are today's top business headlines. wall street to start out this week slightly up but as investors continue to worry about a slowdown in the economy and whether that could lead to a recession. overnight in asia, japan's market posting its worst day of the year. europe is also lower. on friday, the dow falling more than 450 points, its worst performance since early january. on the watch list reports on the housing sector, consumer confidence and fourth quarter gdp. american airlines is canceling about 90 flights per day through april 24th due to the grounding of boeing 737 max jets following two deadly crashes in ethiopia and indonesia.

american has two dozen 737 max planes in its fleet. not every flight on the 737 max is cancels as americans make arrangements to use other aircraft. and prices at the pump they're jumping. the average price of regular unleaded rising 16 cents in the past two weeks. in it's now $2.66 a gallon nationwide. there in the bay area, gas is averaging $3.64 a gallon. analysts say the increase comes as supplies get tighter, while refiners undergo maintenance in higher demand demand of the summer driving season which unofficially kicks off memorial day weekend. gas prices are exactly the same level they were at this time last year. back over to you, marcus and laura. >> you know, frank, we like to see the prices go down, down, down each year. you're telling us the same. same is sometimes not that great. >> same exact. >> you're just the messenger. >> you know what? it was still a busy driving season last year, the busiest in like a dozen years so people didn't seem to mind too much. >> they want to get out, get away. >> enjoy what you can. thanks, frank. so new for you this morning,

two sets of identical twins two w.h.o. fell in love at a fair for twins and plan to marry. they plan to live in the same home so the families can be raised together. they hope to get pregnant at the same time. that's a lot of planning. >> yes, that's fascinating though. >> what are you doing tonight at 7:00, sis? okay, me too. >> double check. >> that's a reality show in the making. >> there you go. >> also twin fairs. ooh. >> all right, so look at the weather today, it's a twin from a couple weeks ago, the rain moving in. >> we're on repeat here, still spring storms moving through the bay area, and we're going to have two of them this week. the first one moving through is moving very slowly. so here we are, looking live outside in walnut creek, it's a dry start to the day, and our temperatures in the upper 40s. we'll see a mix of sun and clouds and the rain moving in later on this morning, into the

afternoon, after high temperatures reach up to the mid-60s today. we're already seeing that rain across much of northern sonoma and marin counties, and then farther to the north. so it's just starting to edge its way into santa rosa, but it's been in cloverdale and ukiah for several hours now. so it's been a steady rain, and this is once again the first in a series of two storm systems that will be moving in. the next one will be here on wednesday and maybe a little bit stronger. this storm system moving in will continue to fizzle out, weaken as it moves into the peninsula, into the east bay. by 6:00 today, we're seeing the leading edge of that rain starting to make its way into the south bay, but we can see the rain kind of falling apart, so the showers will be very hit or miss by this evening, when it moves in. so we're looking at the possibility of getting for most areas along the golden gate bridge off towards the east and the south getting about a quarter inch of rain or less, maybe a little bit higher for the north bay, but the next

storm system moving in will bring us much more rain, and also some gusty winds. so i'll be watching that. a live look out there in the sierra, squaw creek, it's a beautiful start to the day, nice stretch of some dry weather, but we could see another two feet of snow going throughout the week, while we get some rain and wind. our temperatures stay in the 60s, and look at how it clears out for the weekend. it's going to be a nice one, you should go ahead and make some plans to get outside. mike, you're tracking one new crash. >> we have those dry roads as well, kari, before the rain comes in. enjoy it, folks. enjoy the pretty predictable drive for the patterns. the one new crash westbound 80, your commute direction, right around pinole valley road, no slowing shows up and i'll let you know if there's major impact to the lanes. sounds like everything is off to the shoulder. nearby there's more traffic headed across richmond to san rafael bridge. the build is happening at this toll plaza and we already know it's over at the bay bridge toll plaza but a standard backup and actually moving pretty well for fast track, slowly that is. back to you. >> thanks, mike.

over to the bay area. >> this is the first in a series of two storms that will be here, bringing us wet weather throughout the week and we're already seeing that rain in parts of northern marin and sonoma counties and ex-tending northward, and it's been mostly light and moderate with a few of the heavier pockets right there on 101, just south of cloverdale and now reaching in to santa rosa. we're seeing this rain moving in, you do need to make sure you're prepared today, as the slow moving system continues to bring us some rain into san rafael by early afternoon. the east bay by about 2:00 to 3:00, and the peninsula as well. we'll see it approaching the south bay right around sunset. so i'll have another look at the time line and the weekend forecast. mike, you're tracking a couple of crashes. >> a couple of minor crashes. it hasn't been a major issue this morning. a typical build for the south bay, just starting your northbound commute slowing through the city of san jose and in toward the rest of silicon valley. tri-valley, east bay all standard. we have a crash just off highway

4, it's on bailey, it is not on highway 4. you see the build concord out of bay point for westbound highway 4. the bay bridge toll plaza we're seeing the left lanes actually the cash lanes are lightening up over the last ten minutes. that's a great drive. fast track moving slowly. back to you. >> thanks, mike. developing overnight in the east bay an hour's long crime scene investigation in contra costa county. gunfire erupted late last night, in downtown walnut creek near a popular movie theater. we've been working the phones on this story for hours. "today in the bay's" pete suratos is live in walnut creek with what we know as police search for that shooter this morning. pete? >> reporter: yes, good morning to you, marcus. a very rare shooting here in walnut creek in downtown walnut creek in front of the union bank on locust street across the street from the century theaters, where you see a lot of traffic here, especially on the weekends in walnut creek. i was going to show you the scene video when this took

place. police are saying it took place just before 10:p.m., the shooting in front of this union bank parking lot. the motive is sti unknown but we know that the victim took himself to kaiser in walnut creek, with gunshot wounds to the back. the injuries appear to be non-life-l non-life-threatening. i looked at stats in january, eight reported assaults with a deadly weapon in the month of january and two strongarm robberies. not many incidents in walnut creek to report on the crime end. there are no respects in custody. they continue to search for the suspects. we're hoping to get more details from walnut creek police later this morning. we're live in walnut creek, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> thank you, pete. 6:32 right now. now to the bombshell report released over the weekend in report. president trump saying he is vindicated after the justice department revealed a summary of robert mueller's russia report. democrats and some republicans want to see his original findings as well as evidence, interviews and much more. "today in the bay's" tracie potts has more on why there are still so many questions this morning.

>> it is imperative that the attorney general release the full report and underlying evidence. >> reporter: republicans have their own reasons for wanting that report released. >> let's see the fisa applications, because this is an extraordinary use of government surveillance power. >> reporter: a nearly two-year investigation ended, analyzing that investigation, just beginning. tracie potts, nbc news, washington. >> the "today" show will have much more on the democrats and how they're responding to the mueller report, and its conclusion the no trump russia collusion. white house press secretary sarah huckabee sanders will be on live, watch it at 7:00 a.m. after "today in the bay." this morning, san francisco police on high alert as the search continues for the gunman who shot six people in san francisco's filmore district. one of the victims died. a 25-year-old man from san leandro. four other men and one woman

were critically injured. one man says he was in the area selling flowers during the shooting. he says what he did next may have saved his life. >> one youngster reached in and took, snatched a rose from my vase. pow, pow, pow. pow, pow, pow. if he didn't snatch the rose, i might have been one of the casualties. >> police have few leads, meanwhile the president of the san francisco naacp is asking for more foot patrol officers in that area. he's also asking for more opportunities for young people, to prevent future shootings. >> new details on possible new delays for san francisco's long-awaited central subway. muni is hoping to launch its light rail line through chinatown by the end of the year, but "the examiner" reports this morning that contract disputes may get in the way. that's according to an independent monitor, who suggests that the opening may get to pushed to the middle of next year if the contract disputes don't get worked out in time. muni says that the project is still on track. and heads up, if you're a

morning commuter there and you take your way through hayward. you could actually expect a lot of construction on i-880 this week. crews will be working on southbound lanes, this is between wynton avenue and highway 92. work is expected to last from midnight until 4:00 a.m. each night until thursday morning. crews are installing new signs for 880, express lane project. work picks back up again next week. >> 6:36. happening today if your commute takes you through santa clara you may want to budget extra time. crews are closing part of lafayette this week to work on repairing a sink hole. the work is 7:00 this morning through 5:00 this afternoon between caya de luna and highway 237. got to hurry and patch it up before more rain comes in. >> the sewer line was reported last week so that say concern. we don't want that sewer water or anything related. in the rest of the south bay the freeways are moving well.

you have your typical northbound slowing, but i have these two crashes reported in this area. north 17 at hamilton, no slowing, shows up just yet. slower drive toward 17 at 280, that's where a bigger crash is happening right near the 280/17 interchange. we see the slowing for both 280 and north 17. we'll track that. chp has yet to get on scene. aside from the one portion of san jose we have a smooth drive at the san jose/santa clara border so watch that area. the bay bridge toll plaza has a standard build for your metering lights. >> all right. monday morning. we're looking forward to the weekend. right? it should be a glorious next weekend. >> this past weekend wasn't bad at all. we had the rain moving out saturday morning and this upcoming weekend we will see all clear conditions, but we do have to get through some rain first. we're seeing it in the north bay as we get a look at our storm ranger radar, and this is a first in a series of a couple of storm systems that will be here throughout the work week by the

time we get to the weekend, we are looking at beautiful weather, highs in the low 70s and sunshine. san francisco will catch a break from the rain, looking at highs mid to upper 60s. if you'll be in the krirks valley expected to reach into the upper 60s for saturday and sunday, and if you're going to the sierra, a fresh coating of snow on the ground and all of it will be out of here, as you make your way to the heavenly area, we'll be up to 45 degrees and reaching 48 degrees on saturday. sunday even a little bit warmer than that. santa cruz will see the temperatures in the upper 60s, i think it will be a nice weekend to enjoy some time by the ocean, and also going to have some fresh breezes kicking in. we'll talk about what's going on today, as far as our temperature trend and when the rain arrives, coming up in three minutes. >> we'll look forward to it. coming up on "today in the bay," feeling the bern, talking about bernie sanders in the bay area.

we're coming up on 6:42, and getting ready for another round of rain. it's still dry and palo alto, as you get ready to head out on highway 101. temperatures from the upper 40s and the rain moving in late morning into early afternoon. it's already falling in the north bay as we track it on storm ranger. we'll get a closer look at the radar and what you can expect as we go throughout the day, coming up in less than five minutes. a live look at oakland 880, this moves smoothly. the nimitz is looking good. 880 also 17 south of 280 in san jose is where we have a problem. a crash, and more details, more slowing shows up. >> thank you, mike. we know the company for iphones, ipads and now streaming service, apple entertaining a new territory, entering the territory with a major announcement in just hours at its headquarters in cupertino.

>> it's something the world will be watching as well as "today in the bay's" kris sanchez who joins us live with the next company's fight against amazon. kris? >> reporter: hi there, laura and marcus. apple doesn't tell us much about what its announcement will be but our tech insiders say all signs point to the fact the big announcement will be the streaming service meant to compete with netflix and amazon. apple streaming service is expected to include original content, but also traditional content like hbo and stars, and one that might seem like a move exclusively to take on amazon or netflix, nbc news reports it is a strategy to make iphones more lucrative for apple by creating more content, and more services. iphone sales have been soft because people have been keeping their older phones longer and not buying new ones. apple reportedly has deals already with steven spielberg, oprah winfrey, reese witherspoon and kevin durant. i put up a poll on twitter and

uber reportedly says this was actually the unintended result of an incentive promotion. union leaders have planned a one-day strike in southern california, and in san francisco, ride share drivers plan to protest outside a lyft ipo luncheon. both companies plan to go public in the next few weeks. >> 6:45 right now. senator bernie sanders is spreading his message to the bay area in his latest bid to get into 1600 pennsylvania avenue. the line to see senator sanders at ft. mason sunday was a long one. people arrived hours ahead of the campaign rally to hear him. san francisco marked the final stop in his three-city tour of california. he made a strong push for california voters there, where he had a second place finish in the state's 2016 presidential primary. in addition to the mueller report, senator sanders doubled down on economic equality. >> we want an economy that works for all of us, not just wealthy campaign contributors. >> senator sanders also touched on criminal justice reform,

raining, starting out. and then our school day forecast for oakland starts out dry, but then by the time the kids get out of school, we'll feel temperatures in the low 60s and some scattered showers starting to move in. we're already seeing the rain in the north bay. it's been in parts of northern sonoma county for hours, and even some pockets of some really heavy rain, just east of santa rosa, we've seen the rainfall rate at about almost an inch of rain per hour. that means if that same little cell sat over the same area, we could pick up on an inch of rain or close to it, within an hour's time. but the rain is pretty much moving in some of the pockets of the heavier rain not staying in the same spots, but we will still have the north bay, the target of the rain, until about noon, and then the leading edge of that rain starts to make it into san francisco, and the east bay by about 1:00 to 2:00, and starting to make its way into the south bay. mostly after sunset and it looks like that line of rain starts to fall apart, becomes more

scattered, so we're not going to see as much rain in the south bay as we'll see in the north bay. some of our rainfall estimates show as you move south of the golden gate bridge, you're looking at about a quarter inch of rain, and it could be up to a half inch, maybe even three-are the quarters of an inch toward ukiah. the next storm system that will be here on wednesday, it's going to bring us more rain, looking at most of us getting about an inch of rain especially for the east bay for the peninsula and northward. it's going to be windy, with that second storm system arriving on wednesday, and then it tapers off on thursday, and look at that, weekend forecast, after a rainy week much deserved weekend of warm weather and sunshine. san francisco highs reaching into the mid to upper 60s. and mike, you've got a big deal happening in the south bay. >> but not the good kind. not like the weekend you're showing. a crash major crash reported here. most of the bay shows a smooth drive. it is northbound 17 where chp has reported a major crash but

not major injuries. that's an important difference here. we have traffic jammed up solid from hamilton up toward about 280, i think the crash is just shy of 280 judging by the speed sensors. you can use baskham, winchester to get by and what's happening, folks are hearing about the crash, some are instead of going to 17 are choosing northbound 87 as an alternate. this will be building and seeing the slower drive, you may take capitol to 101. more slowing coming off of 85 and headed up toward alum rock and mckee. that may be the ripple effect. just warning you as we track that crash in san jose. the peninsula is an easy drive for palo alto as the sun comes up. slower now westbound 92, and there is a crash reported at the toll plaza, that will complicate things off of 880. the dumbarton bridge looking much better, and we have the bay bridge which is looking standard. laura, back to you. >> thank you very much. 6:50 right now. happening now, china is censoring more than two

report it amonday newsly to crimestoppers to qualify for the reward. an east bay principal who police say was shot by his wife has died. paul schatzwell was on life support and slipped into a coma after being shot at his home last saturday in pittsburg. investigators believe his wife shot him with a handgun after an argument. prosecutors will seek murder charges against her. schatzwell was a principal at pittsburg adult education center and had eight children. >> 6:56. the possibility of a teacher strike in san ramon, dublin and surrounding communities is about to be officially off the table. earlier this month, the san ramon valley education association ratified the tentative agreement reached with the district. tomorrow, they'll bring the agreement to the board of education for final ratification. the union represents nearly 1700 educators who say they were prepared to walk off the job for a raise as well as smaller class sizes, and more resources.

chick-fil-a could come to conford after all. tomorrow city staff is expected to recommend city council reject an amendment preventing it from doing so. in december, chick-fil-a submitted a preliminary application to develop a restaurant with a drive-through along willow pass road. planners have shot down two similar nearby locations. city leaders are still encouraging chick-fil-a to find another location. the legal battle over the iconic flint stone house in hillsborough certainly heating up. you know the house you can see from interstate 280 driving north. it is now owned by the fang family which owns "the examiner." hillsborough leaders recently sued calling the home's most recent decorations like that barney right there, they call it a nuisance. but they're battling a solid legal team, including former san francisco supervisor angela alioto. it's no secret many people in the bay area feel priced out. but a new silicon valley poll a

whopping 44% of residents are considering moving away. 77% of those who said they plan to move in the next few years say it's because of housing costs. 51% cited traffic as a major factor as well. poor quality of life came in at 45%. taxes came in at 41%. a silicon valley leadership group conducts this poll every year. it's officially spring but the slopes in tahoe look like a winter wonderland. look at the little ones out there, this is video from sugar bowl. they got nine inches of new snow sunday morning. all the rain in the bay area led to the snow in the sierra, as you well know. they already had plenty. a lot of folks came out to enjoy a quick ski trip. looks good. we'll be skiing into july. >> i know, more rain in our area. you say it was slow moving. will it linger around the bay area? >> it will take its time especially later on tonight, by the time it makes it into the east bay and the south bay. we are also going to see more sierra snow so we'll see more scenes like that over the next several days.
