software patch in the wake of two recent crashes involving planes. both may have experienced similar problems. earlier this month, eight americans were among those on board the ethiopian airlines jet that went down in africa. last november, a lion air jet plunged into the indian ocean. in that case, investigators have now zeroed in on the plane's stall prevention program. parts of the midwest this morning experiencing a new round cyclone.r near the missouri flood damage already estimated at more than billion. we have some rain yesterday that moved through the bay area, brought us in some spots up to an inch of rain in parts of the east bay and the north bay. we had about a quarter inch of rain in san jose. now as that system moves out, we're still left with some lingering, spotty showers and we'll see that throughout the day especially for the santa cruz mountains, and also over toward the tri-valley, but our rain chances go down as we go into the afternoon.

our next storm system arrives tonight, and starts to bring us some rain that will continue throughout the day tomorrow, in waves, off and on rain even into thursday. i'll be tracking that and we'll talk about how much more additional rain we c that's coming up in a few minutes and mike, the chp is working fairly quickly. >> that's right, trying to get out there quickly and address the issues and then clear them from my report, that makes things easier for me. yep, it's all about me. looking at a smoother drive off the benicia bridge, the spinouts, minor crashes clearin approaching san antonio in the north bay, north of novato. there say little slowing there, one lane blocked. should clear hopefully quickly. over there approaching the caldecott watching west 24 the crash reportedly blocks the slow lane in that commute direction headed over there. no problem for the maze. there say backup at the bay bridge toll plaza though. it never really fully cleared after the early morning start there and we're looking to the south bay and peninsula as well.

i saw some in san jose but it wasn't this pronounced. any time you see some weather, send me a picture. i'm @karihallweather on facebook and twitter. getting out the door this morning we may see interesting clouor temperatures will reach into the low 60s as we go closer to noon, around fremont, and the rain moving out. we may still have the wet roads and mostly cloudy skies, and as this storm system moves out, there will be a stronger one moving in, and then i'm widening out the view, you can see where that is. we can see all that's going on with the areas of low pressure spinning out there, and then the tap into some deep moisture that will move in over the next couple of days. so that means enhanced rainfall, and we will see some pretty good rainfall totals that get started tonight with some light showers by the south bay. off and on rain through early tomorrow we go into thursday, we still will see some scattered showers moving through, and the slight

potential for thursday night. during that time, raiall totals in parts of the north bay. could be close to a half inch of rain or inch and a hsay in santa half inch and a quarter inch for the south bay. and our temperatures will be in the lower 60s, and then for the weekend, we start to warm up, looks like a really nice weekend ahead, highs near 70 degrees. san francisco also getting in on some sunshine, starting on friday, continuing through sunday, with highs reaching 67 degrees. now mike, you have something south bay drivers need to know. >> got to know about this. 45,000 people expected to be in this area tonight, right around levi's stadium, because it's mexico versus paraguay or mexico versus paraguay. watch out, it will be slow thro the area, there's tazman and lafayette. last week we talked about the sewer line break. we're doing the repair work on

israel, injuring seven people. there are reports of at least a half a dozen injuries in gaza. this one is new for you this morning, colorado is seeing a steep rise in marijuana related emergency room visits. this comes after the state legalized the drug. so researchers looked at health records for nearly 10,000 er patients at one hospital and found a number of marijuana-related visits tripled in 2012 when the drug became legal and 2016. more than 10% of those visited involved edibles. doctors say people tend to have too much. >> the big issue with edible marijuana, it takes around 30 minutes to take effect they take multiple doses during the 30-minute period and get to the point their body is flooded with marijuana and causes themmer is to get to the emergency room. >> we'll talk about the growing marijuana edible market coming up at 7:00 conor mcgregor announcing this morning he's retiring from the sport.

looking standard, so there's the three bears, just right. this is standard at the bay bridge with the metering lights on, and no major problems coming through the maze. you see a good slowing up the incline that happens just before they turned the metering lights on and now traffic is metered well there. we still track the crash up in the north bay, south 101 jams up approaching san antonio roadway. i think there's one lane blocked. watch for that and maybe some damp, slicker roadways continuing around the bay, until the sun dries things out. we have a new incident reported on 580 around north livermore. waiting for chp to get there. i'll give you more detail coming up. thanks, mike. we have breaking news to tell you about on the peninsula. emergency crews just arriving there at the scene. this is of a house fire in daly city. take a look there. you can see the emergency crews and firefighters there on that scene. so our photographers there as well, that's why we have the pictures. here is what i can tell you about what's going onthere. the fire is happening there near los olivos and san diego avenue.

it's not clear if everyone made it out. "today in the bay's" bob redell is a couple minutes away from the scene. he'll talk to investigators and we'll bring you a live report in minutes. new for you this morning, two separate b.a.r.t. police investigations just an hour apart. last night at 11:00, we reported about an incident on the peninsula. overnight, we found out about a new problem in the east bay. "today in the bay's" pete suratos live for us in orinda and pete, it's just another reason for people to pay close attention to their surroundings. >> reporter: yes, that's right, laura. we got a chance to speak to some of the b.a.r.t. riders in orrin ta. you mentioned the incident took place at 11:00 p.m., just an hour after another incident in san francisco. i was going to show you a map of the distance between these two stations. according to b.a.r.t., police say the orinda station incident

was a robbery and the male suspect tried to get away on a san francisco bound train but arrested at the macarthur station after the female victim and another witness i.d.'d him. in san francisco a woman attacked on a train headed to sfo just before 10:00 p.m. between daly city and colma. police say the man hit the woman in the head with an object and walked away. the motive behind that is still unknown. he was arrested at the station and that woman appears to be okay. here is what riders in orinda are saying about that latest incident. >> it makes me more aware of my surroundings, but other than that, i'm fine in the mornings. i wouldn't do it so much at night, though. >> it raises concerns, but generally, i would say this is a pretty safe station. from what i know. i've been using it for years. >> i don't mind it. it don't bother me really.

>> reporter: i got a chance to look at b.a.r.t.'s latest quarterly report form the fiscal year of 2019, it looks like they average about ten crimes or ten crime incidents per week. b.a.r.t. says at least during that time period, that is. that didn't meet their goals. the increase was caused by cell phone robberies in san francisco. we're live at jordo orinda b.a. pete suratos for "today in the bay." bump stocks will be banned across the nation. the justice department with the support of president trump issuing a rule banning the devices. the rule applies to individual owners, dealers and manufacturers. the ban was prompted by the 2017 las vegas massacre. the gunman used a bump stock to kill 58 people, injuring many more during a country music festival. it's 5:34. did you feel it, a small 2.9

magnitude earthquake rattled parts of the south bay last night. according to the usgs, it struck in the hills of diablo range southwest of san jose near morgan hill just before 11:00 at night, nearly thr.ee no reports of injuries or damage. this morning the search is on for a shooter who opened fire inside of an office building in san francisco. witnesses say that man walked into the lobby of the city center building and shot a conservation corps worker in the back of the head. police swarmed the building. they say the victim is an 18 years old from san francisco. >> it's very emotional. it's just like, it was his birthday, and his first day at work, too, so it's, i don't know why somebody would do that at somebody's workplace. >> turns out somebody that i mn >> to him.

sad story there. he was taken to san francisco hospital with life-threatening injuries. conservation corps workers have been told not to report back to work until thursday. >> 5:36. a follow-up for you now, we're working to find out more about a woman's body discovered at san francisco's ft. funston beach. bay area sky ranger was overhead as crews arrived on scene, not far from where a 22-year-old woman was buried last month. despite frantically looking, kyra scarlet was walking with a friend and her dog when it caved in on them. despite frantically looking, crews never found scarlet. scarlet's friend and dog survived. happening today the board o agreement that would avoid a teacher strike in san ramon, dublin and surrounding education. earlier this month they ratified the agreement reached with the

district. richmond police chief brown is expected to address city council members on what is perceived to be poor relations between the ranks. outside consultants found issues between the police department's top brass and its police officers association. the report indicated the pd had low morale and lacked community involvement. fremont police department's new tesla hitting the road, the electric car officially started service yesterday. police department tweeted out this video. fremont home, of course, to the tesla factory and police chief says it's time to explore whether electric cars are compatible with police work. the department bought this used model "s" for $61,000. from san francisco to burbank is forced to make an emergency

next. >> 96-year-old jake larson was just going to let it go when he found out he couldn't get sponsored to go to france and normandy this summer. when he told his friends, people he meets up with at the bagel shop every week, they went to battle for him. weised with mr. larson at his favorite bagel and coffee shop in martinez, he told us he is the svivor from his unit that stormed omaha beach in normandy, france. while the army sponsors trips for vets to travel to their battlefields, mr. larson isn't eligible because his military records were destroyed in a kentucky army base fire in the 1970s. his coffee crew is mobilizing to get him there for the 75th anniversary commemoration in june, and mr. larson, he just can't believe it. >> we're like we're going to get a go fund me. he didn't know what it was and he joked around later, got choked up, he said i cannot believe that don't even know me are donating to me and he goes i thought i'd be sitting out
