coming forward and also the response from cal. >> hi there, marcus. she was a student and member of the team as you mentioned until she had to withdraw from school over what was relentless sexual harassment. she's going to be talking more about that on the "today" show this morning. she made the allegations first in a facebook post that reads in part, i am an athlete, and i have been my whole life. so when i got the opportunity to work with the uc team i was excited beyond believe. fast forward to march 2019 and i'm medically withdrawn from school, seeking intensive therapy and psychiatry for posttraumatic stress syndrome and anxiety that happened for the time i spent working for the cal football team. >> i don't want money. i just want respect for all women. i want this toxic masculinity culture to end. >> she says she wants to work in sports eventually but before she

graduates, she wants the culture to change so she doesn't have to worry about not getting a promotion because she is a woman. cornelius said the sexual harassment from some players and coaches culminateed with a coach threatening to have her fired if she didn't have sex with him. she said, again, she with drew from school. cal athletic director jim knowlton released a statement that reads in part, we are aware of disturbing public allegations made on social media. as is our policy when allegations are made, we have immediately referred the matter to the office for prevention of harassment and discrimination, which is responsible for investigating such assertions. these allegations go against the very core of our values. you can hear the full interview with her this morning on the "today" show. of course we know that a lot of folks will be talking about this story. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> certainly something a lot of people want to hear about, kris, thank you. in an nbc news exclusive, fired former fbi director james

comey speaks out for the first time since the russia investigation ended. "today in the bay's" tracie potts joins us from washington with the very latest. >> hi there, laura. it's been a while since we heard from him. he was the fbi director that started the investigation before handing it over to special counsel. now comey says he's a little confused about how the investigation ended. >> i think it's good he was able to finish the work. >> reporter: fired fbi director james comey in an exclusive interview with lester holt on the russian investigation he started. comey said it's good for the country trump was cleared of collusion, but forney general william barr left questions only the full report can answer. >> the obstruction piece

down to $78 million. new details following a deadly shooting in san francisco's fillmore district. prosecutors say the two men arrested in the case will not face murder charges, at least not at this time. shawn harrison and jamari coates face charges. harrison among the people shot. another victim was paralyzed from the waist down. a crackdown on sleep deprivation. a federal judge says he plans to issue an injunction that requires deputies to reduce the practice on female inmates. the woman claims their physical and congestive health is actually in danger because they are allowed -- only allowed five hours of sleep a night at most. the judge said the sheriff's office's practices could amount

to inhumane treatment. >> that's what i sleep if less. first ever director of mental health reform, dr. anton holds the position, leave medical director of psychiatrist service as san francisco hospital repeatedly announced she plans to create a new position during her state of the city address in january. the doctor begins that position next month. 5:07 right now. a follow-up to a high-profile homeless camp built on state property in san jose. hope village says the city is forcing it to officially shut its doors. the protest and news conference is scheduled for 11:00 this morning at the site along rough drive not too far from the airport. the city along with the county found no serious efforts to find hope village a new home. 17 people live in the encampment. last week the plan was abandoned to move it to willow glen

of its passengers. the iceland based airliner has gone out of business. on its website it has a frequently asked questions section saying, how can i reach my destination. the answer is many airlines have a discount fare try them. back to detroit and washington, d.c. president trump met with the ceo of google yesterday. on saturday the president accused google of helping the chinese military. let me see if i can pull that tweet up or not. i can't do that either. he had tweeted that google somehow was helping chinese military. it doesn't, beyond the sense that it does business in china. the chinese government is connected to about everything in china. now mr. trump changed his mind, having just met with the president of google, minor point, president of google, doing well and stated he's committed to u.s. military, not chinese military. laura, i think we knew that already. >> you're right. thanks so much, scott.

quarter after 5:00, more than 1,000 layoffs. many are expected in the bay area between now and memorial day. state officials say sap, oracle, paypal, insta-cart and thin film electronics among the tech companies to make those cuts. on the screen is the break down of exactly how many positions should be eliminated. the reason for the layoffs vary. according to mercury news, job cuts planned by five companies all scheduled to occur in may. in paypal's case, some could occur as soon as next month. >> now you're likely feeling pain at the pump. gas prices up in california. this is according to aaa. it will cost you $3.54 a gallon on average. that's about a dollar higher than national average. the experts say the spike comes following temporary shutdown of oil refinery in benicia. to make matters worse, another in carson. what's your take.

it's not dry everywhere. we're going to talk about that. our temperatures are in the mid-40s in the north bay. we have some mid-50s in san francisco. so a wide range in temperatures as you head out for that morning commute from antioch it's going to be 47 degrees, heaters on in the car. by noon you may need windshield wipers. we're going to still have those rain chances today. the rain has been very spotty. we're seeing that as we get to storm ranger. over the north bay rain tapering off. from vallejo to fairfield and away from that area. it's really picking up on a peninsula, wood side portola valley and south hills, now that rain rolling back into palo alto. we'll be crossing the bay toward newark and over toward union city. also seeing some rain that's been moving just north of danville and moving towards black hawk. expect some of that rain off and on today as the storm system

will be moving through. i've even seen lightning strikes off the coast. so far haven't seen a lot for the inland areas. we'll see a chance of thunderstorms today as we go hour by hour showing spotty rain from late morning to early afternoon. looks like a lot of activity tapers off south of the golden gate bridge. throughout the day north bay, you can see rain at any point. it still shows light rain here and there as we go into tomorrow morning. this is also when the activity will start to wind down and we'll see it moving out. the very light rain, if any, in the south bay while the north bay gets a half inch of rain. if you're planning to head to the sierra, it's still going to be slowing today but roads clearing tomorrow. it's amazing to see how much snow every single week, we keep adding more on that. we're going to see now we have 642" of snow for a season total at squaw valley. our weekend is looking really nice, whether you're going to the sierra or staying here. next week more rain chances in

the forecast. mike, you've been tracking the rain, too. how is it looking on the roads. >> kari, i'm watching your report instead of repeating what you say. the peninsula, that's what we're looking at, worried about possible slowing. you should worry about the conditions and windshield wipers traveling along the peninsula. you see the green highlighted through the radar. that's the radar here. storm sweep as well. smooth roadways on the peninsula, also north bay, vallejo, i-80 out of fairfield for example. i-80 does move nicely right on the bay bridge and a batch of rain right when we're seeing the buildover at the toll plaza. we should see metering lights on. pulled away. slowing from west 80. no other slowing for contra costa county. good stuff. tracking a small crash off 680, off 242. here is the back-up formed already at the bay bridge toll plaza. we talked about that. we have metering lights scheduled any second. back to you.

his aunt is speaking out saying the preschooler needs a miracle. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell is live for us with the story. bob, what are investigators saying happened here? >> well, the great-aunt is asking you at home pray for her great nephew, who is on life support after surgery last night, so far showing no signs of brain activity. >> he's 4 years old. he's a baby. we keep losing babies. these babies are dying. they are babies." these are babies. >> 4-year-old navaun jackson rushed to oakland children's yesterday afternoon when he was found with a gunshot wound to hit head inside this home on ritchie street in east oakland. his great-aunt told us he found an unlocked gun underneath the bed and accidentally shot

himself. two people were at home, the manent aman e renting the house and the woman believed to be navaun's mother. the great-aunt says her nephew needs a miracle. >> sher saying if he doesn't gain brain activity in the next three days, they will take him off life support. we're hoping the swelling goes down and he regains brain activity. police have recovered the gun and questioned the man and woman inside the house at the time. reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> so sad. thank you very much, bob. it is 5:33, new this morning police investigating a stabbing near uc berkeley. officers say they found a man with stab wounds along shattuck avenue. another man suffered an injury after being hit with a chain. it appears both had an altercation before the incident. both men taken to the hospital. no word this morning on their conditions. >> this just in, president trump

is weighing in on all criminal charges against actor jussie smollett being dropped. he wrote on twitter, quote, fbi and doj to review the outrageous jussie smollett case in chicago. it's an embarrassment to our nation. prosecutors agree to a deal with the actor. charges were dropped in exchange for two days of community service and $10,000 in court costs. three weeks ago smollett was indicted by a grand jury after the actor told police he was beaten on the street by two masked men. police had said that smollett hired two brothers to stage the attack. this morning tmz is reporting that smollett is asking his team to make him likable again. smollett's attorney will speak out this morning in a live interview on the "today" show. she will actually talk about what is next for the actor coming up for you at 7:00 this morning following "today in the bay." it is 5:34. developing now in san francisco, the search is on for a man seen

attacking an 85-year-old protesting outside a planned parenthood office. it was all caught on camera last thursday. a 23 second video began showing that man carrying a banner. then the 85-year-old man tries to stop him by jamming something into his bike spoke. you can see how violent it is. san francisco investigating this as an assault. a man accused of throwing a chihuahua down a trash chute is due in court. he faces charges for animal cruelty and abandonment of an animal. he pleaded not guilty. this is a story we've been covering for weeks on "today in the bay." that dog named rocky was found by a janitor in a dumpster earlier this month. she is now recovering after having her leg amputated. rocky was adopted by a san francisco animal control operator working on the case. also happening a high school in solano county plans to

reopen. it shut its doors yesterday after the school district said someone made a violent threat. the district said it closed fairfield vanden high school out of an abundance of caution. a parent told reporters that some student spray painted his son's name with racist language and symbols a few weeks ago. naacp joining the family demanding justice department and u.s. marshall's office step in to investigate the school. the students responsible are suspended. lyft apparently not giving people who use wheelchairs a lift. that's what a new class action lawsuit claims. a disability rights association says the company does not provide wheelchair accessible vehicles for riders. they want lyft to provide that option. the company has not commented on the suit. this comes ahead of lyft's ipo expected tomorrow. believe it or not, baseball season is here.

look at the south bay and parts of the peninsula. as we head into the weekend, our weather will be clearing out saturday, looking really nice. high temperatures reaching into the upper 60s inland. coastal areas around 63 degrees for that high temperature and then on sunday slightly warmer in some of the valleys with the bay reaching 68 degrees. we also have the treasurefest happening on sunday at treasure island. it's going to start out with those temperatures in the mid-50s staying up to about 58 degrees throughout the day with a nice little breeze. if you will be going to heavenly, we are seeing a fresh coating of snow on the ground warming up as we go throughout the weekend. the road conditions will start to improve as we go into this evening and throughout the day tomorrow we're going to be all dry. if we're going to half moon bay, it's going to be cool and breezy, still some high waves. we'll see sunny skies throughout the weekend. we'll tuck about what's going on today. i'm still tracking rain in about three minutes.

boston courtroom today. several of the parents charged are slated to make their first appearance in federal court tomorrow. several are from the bay area. >> happening today former governor jerry brown will share his views on current issues impacting the state. he's set to speak to a sold out crowd at the commonwealth club in san francisco. democratic presidential candidate pete buttigieg is also set to make a speech. he's currently mayor of south bend, indiana. a rally since mueller turned over his report. >> in the meantime the rest of us waiting to see it. >> so has congress. barr told the squish it may be weeks before congress sees the report. remember, the report you have seen is a report about the report. barr says he's more than willing to testify about what he's seen. there's also a lot of confusion as to why mueller refused to make a decision whether the

>> thank you. people like me when it's sunny and all that stuff. >> some coming. >> some sun in the weekend forecast. so we are still watching some rain moving through parts of the bay area and some hitting hard in parts of the peninsula, now moving into the south bay. let's look at the rain falling on the dumbarton bridge. also in palo alto, rain making 101 wet. we've also seen that rain moving along 280 as well. either one, it's still slippery out there. as it crosses the bay, we're seeing rain into fremont as well as newark, union city, and also making its way closer to the tri-valley. we're also starting to see that rain filling in on the radar as we take a look at san jose. rain just moved through santa clara, and we are going to see it very spotty off and on throughout the day. i've also been watching storms developing off the coast. we'll see if some of that makes its way into the bay area today.

we will have that chance of thunderstorms as the center of the low pressure off the coast still has to work its way through today. we're still stuck with the rain and rain chances through at least the next 24 hours. going throughout the day, it looks very spotty. so even throughout the afternoon, we're not going to see rain everywhere. at times some sunshine. still unsettled. the highest chance of rain over the north bay. as we go into tomorrow morning, it still shows we could see a spotty shower or two. overall looking at a drying trend going into tomorrow. for the south bay, we may barely see anything. san jose measuring trace amounts of rain. you head to the east bay, it could be a quarter inch of rain and much higher amounts for the north bay at a half inch of rain. we're excited about the a's home opener today, watching out for the slight chance of rain. overall nice weather, highs in the low 60s and mostly sunny skies. going into the weekend, make plans to get outside.

our inland valleys will reach into the low 70s. we will see the rain chances returning early next week. for san francisco highs near 70 degrees on sunday. mike, you're starting out with what's happening in richmond. >> that's right, kari. the live camera over at richmond san rafael bridge, no problem. the roadways and a build to the commute, really starting to see more traffic off east shore freeway and heading across toward the north bay right over here. no major problems. the north bay has a lot of rain in the vallejo area and coming down i-80. minor flooding. outer lanes reported coming in out of vallejo and fairfield. we're watching for that. contra costa county, it's all right. the peninsula really did get that rain coming across slick roadways and dumbarton bridge, as kari showed you, the radar is activity over the bridge. on the bridge we still have green sensors. use caution. it will be slick out there. put that radar back on, there you see traveling to palo alto, fremont, tri-city area right

by a new jersey man who says that asbestos in the company's talcum powder product gave him mesothelio mesothelioma. the company says numerous tests show the product is safe. johnson & johnson is facing more than 13,000 lawsuits nationwide. most involve claims that the powder causes ovarian cancer. a bay area man is dead following a crash in southern california. he's from san francisco. he was actually in san diego on vacation. investigators say that pham was in the back of a lyft when another driver smashed into the car. this happened early sunday morning. also in the car was his friend, who is expected to be okay. investigators say that the driver may have been drunk. friends tell us that pham was a hair stylist and owner of tangled salon in fremont. >> it is 5:56. demonstrators coming out in force to save trees in menlo

park. the group called raging grannies met to demand the city keeps seven heritage redwood trees. those are located on el camino real near the library. the trees sit on top of a building, a parking structure, with water damage there. so the city says those trees need to go. >> they are beautiful, majestic trees. they are native to the region, coastal redwoods last year alone menlo park lost 700 trees. >> despite the support, the commission voted to uproot the trees. they say removing the trees is the only way to repair the building. we've got some new perspective this morning on how smart speakers are changing the way we live. here is the headline published other than in "usa today." in that study over 40% of parents surveyed who have kids two to eight, say the family uses a smart speaker. 58% think someone could hack the
