tracking hit or miss showers impacting parts of the bay area. especially the peninsula. you're seeing remnants of rain, east bay, fremont, newark, union city, now approaching sunol. heavy rain moving through. one little batch of rain moving through the south bay. we are going to see spotty showers and thunderstorms possible going into this afternoon. i'll be tracking that with the weekend forecast. mike, you're seeing slowing across san mateo bridge. >> looking at the volume building, 6:00 is the right time. see a slow drive in the flat section but also talking about the rain. the radar active in the area, mostly on the dumbarton bridge right lower. the san mateo bridge is up here. the dumbarton bridge is kind of blocked by that radar so we'll pull that off, see that moving over towards fremont and tri-city area. smooth drive, wet conditions, 101, 280, south bay starting to build. green sensors all over everywhere you look.

mild slowing bay point, concord, highway 4, east shore freeway no real problems. about 18 minutes from highway 4. the bay bridge, maybe it's changed. now 23, so more cars. thank you very much. at 6:01, we do have breaking news in sonoma county. there's an active homicide investigation under way in the community of healdsburg. we just got off the phone with healdsburg police. they aren't saying much except it happened last flight at canyon run apartments. the last homicide in healdsburg was in 2016 when a father was charged with drowning his 4-year-old daughter. tragic there. we do have a crew heading to healdsburg right now. we'll keep you updated all morning long right here on air and of course on the napa. only on nbc, the young woman accusing cal's football team and staff of sexual harassment is taking her story to national tv.

live with why the woman is coming forward and the response from cal. kris. >> reporter: good morning, marcus. page cornelius was a cal student and a member of the cal football sports medicine program until she with drew from school over what she said was relentless sexual harassment and inaction on the part of the cal football coaching staff. she is speaking on the "today" show this morning. in a statement she first made allegations public on a facebook post that reads in part, i'm an athlete. i have been my whole life. when i got the opportunity to work for uc berkeley team, i was excited beyond belief. fast forward to 2019 i'm medically withdrawn from school seeking therapy for posttraumatic stress syndrome and anxiety that happened for the time i spent, woing for the cal football team. here is what she's saying this morning exclusively on the "today" show. >> i don't want money.

i just want respect for all women. i want this toxic masculinity culture to end. cornelius goes on to say she wants to work in sports, but she wants to change the culture before she gets there for fear she would be passed over for promotion exclusively because she's a woman. sexual harassments from some players and coaches culminated with a coach threatening to have her fired if she didn't have sex with him. cal athletic director jim knowlton released a statement that reads in part, we are aware of disturbing public allegations made on social media. as is our policy when assertions are made, we have immediately referred the matter to the office for prevention of harassment and discrimination, which is responsible for investigating such assertions. these allegations go against the very core of our values. cornelius says though the statement is now public from the athletic director, she has not been in contact or contacted by

uc berkeley nor california football. can you hear all of what she has to say on the "today" show. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." thanks for the latest, kris. 6:03. in an exclusive interview, fired fbi director james comey speaks out for the first time since the russia investigation ended. tracie potts joins us live in washington with the very latee. good morning, tracie. >> laura, good morning. you might remember james comey was the man who started that investigation. he's now concerned and confused about how it ended. >> i think it's good he was able to finish the world. >> fired james comey in an exclusive interview with lester holt on the russia investigation he started. comey says it's good for the country he was cleared of collusion but william barr's summary left questions only the full report can answer.

>> the obstruction piece confuses me. both are entitled to benefit of the doubt. they have sterling reputations. a lot of what is said in the letter don't make sense to me. >> i think it's clear a lot of things have confused comey over the last year. >> they are demanding it by tuesday. the attorney general says a review to take out classified information could take weeks. >> they seem to be trying to keep large sections of that under wraps. that's just not going to fly. >> we should be consistent in letting the special counsel actually finish his work. >> reporter: president trump continues to criticize the investigation. >> it was treason. >> reporter: we'll hear more about this when he rallies tonight. tracie pots, nbc 11 warrant. on the heels of a landmark verdict today, opening statements expected to begin in a third trial involving popular weedkiller roundup.

they claim exposure to herbicide caused them both to develop non-hodgkins lymphoma. a jury awarded $80 million from roundup maker monsanto. bayer, monsanto's parent company says it plans to appeal. last year a san francisco man sued monsanto in state court. he was awarded almost $300 million in damages which was cut down to $78 million. new details following a deadly shooting in san francisco's fillmore district. prosecutors say the two men arrested in the case will not face murder charges, at least not at this time. shawn harrison and jamari coates face several gun charges for the shoot-out. the shooting killed one person, injuring five hours. harris was among six people shot. another victim was paralyzed from the waist down. a crackdown on sleep

deprivation. a federal judge says he plans to issue a preliminary injunction next month that requires deputies to reduce the practice on female inmates. the women claim their physical and cognitive health is in danger because they are only allowed five hours of sleep at night at the most. the judge said the sheriff's office's practices could amount to inhumane treatment. a follow-up to a high-profile homeless project in l.a. they are forcing it to officially shut doors. it's scheduled for 11:00 at the site along rough drive, not far from san jose airport. organizers say the city, along with santa clara county, made no serious effort to find hope village a new hope. seventeen people live in the encampment. last week the plan to abandon and move the encampment to a willow glen neighborhood. we all know the cost of living in the bay area is very high. today a project aimed at

meanwhile, facebook says it's no longer allowing white separatist content. the company prevented white nationalist content and other things but it was a matter of deciding those two things were >> the prime minister. >> i do believe categories should fall in the community guidelines of hate speech. nevertheless positive the clarification has been made in wake of christchurch. >> wow air no longer flies out of the bay area. as of this morning it doesn't fly period much to the surprise of its passengers. the iceland based airliner has gone out of business. on its website it has a frequently asked questions section saying, how can i reach my destination. the answer is many airlines have a discount rescue fare. try them. back to detroit and washington, d.c. president trump met with the ceo of google yesterday. on saturday the president accused google of helping the chinese military.

google does not do that, beyond the sense it works in china and everything in china is connected to the chinese government in some fashion. now mr. trump changed his mind, having just met with the president of google, minor point, president of google, doing well and stated he's committed to u.s. military, not chinese military. that was quite the accusation that came on saturday. but remember, there were a lot of tweets on saturday. it was quite a saturday. >> 6:15 for you right now. check this out. new for you this morning. making moves, break-dancing and three other sports are one step closer to becoming medal events at 2024 paris olympics. the international olympic committee, executive board there recommending adding break-dancing, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing. the full board is expected to discuss the changes in june.

as you're getting ready to head out, we're seeing rain there. east bay, heavy rain in fremont. that's also moving to the east approaching the tri-valley. for the south bay the rain has been a lot lighter. traveling on highway 101 into san jose it is going to be soggy at times. i'm also seeing lightning strikes and storms developing off the companies and moving closer to parts of the california coast. we will have that chance of thunderstorms today. we still have that area of low pressure in the center of the storm still well west of us. all this has to move through. we may have another 24 hours of off-and-on rain. not all of us will see it. as we go to the 10:00 hour, still picking up on spotty activity through the day. for the north bay, that's where we'll have our highest chance of rain and storms. that may contain small hail and lightning. most of our rainfall totals will be for the north bay. south and east of the golden gate bridge, a quarter inch of

rain or less barely measuring anything in the south bay. we're excited about a's home opener today. just have the mind-set there could be rain moving through. slight chance right before the game and a mix of sun and clouds. as we look at the rest of the forecast, we're going to keep that chance of storms today. highs reaching into the low 70s. by monday we will still see that rain in the forecast. even though we'll have a dry weekend, we are not done with the rain, any stretch of the imagination. i'll have more updates on that. you're starting out in oakland. >> i am. looking at a smooth drive. lighter volume around the bay. this week some schools have finals, others have spring breaks. that's why you see fewer commutes her and next week as well. over past coliseum you'll see more activity, even though track here a good volume. midday game 1:07 first pitch for the a's. lineup starting after 8:00 this morning they do open the parking lot. be aware. a smooth drive through contra

oil taerng when it arrived this morning. the migrants are being turned over to police. maltese special operations boarded that ship returning control to the captain who sailed to malta under military escort. a concern the active volcano could erupt any time. it's a story we're covering for weeks on "today in the bay." the volcano seeing activity lately. it released a powerful explosion lighting up the sky with lava and incandescent rock. no communities in danger from the blast but authorities urged nearby towns to be on alert. nbc bay area responds to a san jose woman's smartphone mess. >> consumer investigator chris chmura is here with a lesson from all of us to take from her headache. >> good morning. let's talk about martha koch. she asked us to help settle a

electronics among the tech companies that intend to make those cuts. on the screen is the break down of exactly how many positions should be eliminated. the reason for the layoffs vary. according to mercury news, job cuts planned by five companies all scheduled to occur in may. in paypal's case, some could occur as soon as early next month. >> if you're a driver feeling pain at the pump. gas prices up in california. this is according to aaa. it will cost you $3.54 a gallon on average. that's about a dollar higher than national average. the experts say the spike comes following temporary shutdown of oil refinery in benicia. to make matters worse, another problem at a refinery in carson. you have less than a month to say good-bye to the two giant pandas at the zoo. they are heading to china.

a very good thursday morning to you. thanks so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. a check of the weather this morning. meteorologist kari hall keeping track. >> it's another day to be prepared for it all. you may get sunshine and rain moving in and sunshine again. a cool start but it will be warming up. we've also been tracking heavy rain moving through parts of the bay area as we get ready to head out the door. parts of the north bay with rain in napa county, calistoga. we're also seeing rain in an east bay fremont moving into the tri-valley. a cluster of some very heavy

downpours. we'll also have a chance of thunderstorms throughout the day as i track the storm system moving across the bay area. we'll talk about what's ahead for the weekend as all of this moves out. mike, you're starting with the rain through fremont. >> kari, we have our camera in fremont. we're seeing the live shot. shows glow and sheen. some rain down here. 880. right by tesla. we're right across the street from tesla. you see the index shows blue, ponding and puddling in areas just south of the dumbarton bridge and moving toward the mission boulevard area. slowing for 680 as well as 880. nothing major. that's good stuff. check on the crash 880 at a street. a lighter volume of traffic all over the bay, northbound through san jose a little slowing there. a slight build. peninsula got hit with rain earlier, no problems. dumbarton holds up nicely. highway 4, more slowing out of bay point.

slowing for upper east shore freeway. metering lights are on on the bay bridge toll plaza. holding up at 18 minutes slowing through merkley. back to you. >> thank you, mike. new for you this morning, we are hearing from the great-aunt of an east oakland 4-year-old boy who is clinging to his life. police say he accidentally shot himself in the head. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell has the new interview from overnight. >> reporter: jamilia lan is asking you to pray for her great nephew who is on life support after surgery last night and so far no brain activity. >> he's 4 years old. he's a baby. we keep losing babies. these babies are dying. they are babies. these are babies. >> 4-year-old navaun jackson rushed to oakland children's yesterday afternoon when he was found with a gunshot wound to his head inside this home on ritchie street in east oakland. his great-aunt told us he found

an unlocked gun underneath the bed and accidentally shot himself. two people were in the home at the time, the man renting the house, and a woman believed to be navaun's mother. the great-aunt says her nephew needs a miracle. >> they are saying if he doesn't gain brain activity in the next three days, they will take him off life support. we're hoping the swelling goes down and he regains brain activity. police have recovered the gun and questioned the man and woman inside the house at the time. bob redell, "today in the bay." thoughts to friends and family of the little boy. 6:40, new for you this morning, president trump wacky in on criminal charges against santa rosa actor jussie smollett being pd del rio. he wrote on twitter, fbi and doj to review the outrageous jussie smollett case in chicago. it's an embarrassment to our nation.

prosecutors agreed to a deal with the actor. charges were dropped in exchange for two days of community service and $10,000 in court costs. three weeks ago smollett was indicted by a grand jury after the actor told police he was beaten on the streets of chicago by two masked men. police say smollett hired two brothers to stage that attack. this morning tmz is reporting smollett is asking his team to help make him likable again. smollett's attorney will actually speak out in a live interview on the "today" show. she'll actually talk about what is next for the actor. that's coming up at 7:00 following "today in the bay." new for you this morning, a unique honor for slain human rights activist harvey milk. norwegian air painting his face on the tailfin. it's the latest in tailfin heroes. it will be based in london. however, it will fly to several norwegian long haul

yo -- warn you, you've got to base yourself. the tendons got sore, a loot of this. >> i have good training with triplets. >> these folks from richmond towards san rafael, there is a bit of a wait. the roadway damp but not wet. not a major concern but north of there in vallejo, the steady rain, standing water for i-80 as you get closer to highway 37. these sensors, look at them. bay bridge toll plaza, southbound 880, those both show you typical slowing pattern. nothing major. as we zoom out the map, you see that in fremont. that's where there may be standing water. it sat there. the commute looks great because of the lighter flow of traffic. >> all right. is the weather cooperating? it is for the weekend? >> looking forward to sunshine and warmer weather, we do still have some rain out there right now. i'll be tracking some storms throughout the day. starting to see storms fire up and heading to mendocino county.

we'll see if that makes it into the rest of the bay area going into the next several hours. by the weekend, that storm is gone. we'll get some sunshine. for the coastal areas those highs will reach up to 63 degrees, the bay at 66 and 69 inland. even a little warmer on sunday. with a mix of sun and clouds, we are going to have nice, dry weather. if you're going to treasurefest and treasure island on sunday, it's going to be a nice one with temperatures starting out in the upper 50s reaching only about 57 degrees there. for heavenly, we've got snow on the ground, by tomorrow, nice and clear. mostly sunny skies, temperatures in the low 40s, reaching the low 50s pi sunday. for half moon bay, our coastal areas will still be chilly with upper 50s. hey, it's going to be sunny. it will be a great place to hang out and take in some sunshine, maybe do for a hike along the coast. monterey will also be fairly nice and comfortable. a little warmer there, especially by sunday with highs

changing that. >> she said the incident forced her to medically withdraw from school and seek medical treatment. school officials say they are investigating. you can watch her full interview on the "today" show right after "today in the bay." developing now in san francisco, the search is on for a man seen attacking an 85-year-old protesting outside a planned parenthood office. it was all caught on camera last thursday. the 23 second video began showing a man carrying a banner. then the 35-year-old man named ron tried to stop him jamming something into his bicycle spoke. that's when the attack happen. san francisco police investigating this as an assault. san francisco lyft not giving wheelchair riders a lift. the company does not provide wheelchair accessible vehicles for riders. they want lyft to provide that option. the company has not commented on

the lawsuit. the lawsuit comes ahead of the lyft ipo expected tomorrow. new this morning -- a popular museum in the bay area getting a multi-million dollar makeover. an $8.5 million makeover on the way at the discovery museum in sausalito. renovations will include several new exhibits, through s.t.e.m. classroom, try-it studio focusing on early math development and for toddlers. what will make it unique for museumgoers. >> what makes them unique, they will be researched back. the museum has a research center. the research center collaborated with our architect to how children learn and put it into a physical manifestation in our exhibit. >> construction set to happen during the next year and a half. the museum will remain open during this time. the first of five exhibits open in september.

6:6:45. the president will hold his report since turning over the mueller report. >> meantime we're waiting to see that report. >> congress, attorney general william barr told the head of the judiciary committee it may be weeks before congress sees that report. remember, the report you have seen is a report about a report. barr says he's more than willing to testify about what he has seen. there's also a lot of confusion as to why mueller declined to make a decision whether he obstructed the investigation or not. it doesn't conclude there's a crime or exonerate either. isn't he the person that was supposed to make the decision crime or no crime. he wasn't supposed to leave it to a political appointee, barr. lester holt into to comey about

least after today. >> for the weekend. we're still dealing with rain off and on. rain chances continuing, maybe a few thunderstorms. i'm still watching out for that possibility. as we start off in dublin, you have rain close by. as that commute gets under way on 580 and connecting with 680, we are going to watch out for the possibility of wet roads. heading to pleasant hill, if you're on the way to the b.a.r.t. station, it may be dry now. do make sure you have the raingear in case you see some of those showers, our rain chances go up to 10:00, 11:00 with spotty rain moving through. right now it's all dry in san francisco but still mostly cloudy. you want to make sure you have the umbrella close by. also maybe light long sleeves for the day as our temperatures reach near 60 degrees. we've seen the rain off and on as we get a closer look in parts of the north bay. we're seeing around sonoma rain moving through. most of it has been fairly light as we track that rain into parts of the east bay now moving

through sunol. once again that will be moving closer to livermore. we're also seeing rain coming over the santa cruz mountains so light to moderate rain pouring in saratoga, moving towards sunnyvale. the rain is spotty but thunderstorms across the coast. really going in mendocino county as the storm starts to approach. lightning that may be moving in. we'll see if it makes it into the inland areas. as you prepare for the day once again staying unsettled, off-and-on rain. the best chance of rain over the north bay. into the afternoon, we see a mix of sun and clouds. it won't be until tomorrow morning when we start to see the weather system winding down and our rain chances coming to an end. for most of us, not going to measure much like san jose, barely measuring rain. we head to parts of the east bay. make it a quarter inch of rain, a half inch in the north bay. a live look at squaw creek in

sierra. good-o if you're going there, lucky you, some nice weather for squaw valley and alpine meadows area. so far we've had 642 inches of snow. the weather clears out this weekend. here we're looking at highs in the inland valleys, the low 70s. we may see more rain moving in early next week. enjoy the weekend. >> kari, this happens when the colleges are on spring break. typical commute. despite the rain, we haven't had much problem here. bay bridge toll plaza metering lights on, a build for walnut creek interchange. vallejo did get rain early in the commute. things calmed down. over here, more busy. pete talks about the coliseum there, a's playing at 1:00. the stadium opens at 11:00 and the parking lot opens earlier, sometime after 8:00.

a family member says he was playing in a bedroom when the gun went off. his aunt says her nephew needs a miracle. >> they are saying if he does not regain brain activity within the next three days, they will be taking him off of life support. so we're hopeful the swelling goes down and he regains brain activity. >> a man and woman who are in the home are being questioned by police. new for you this morning, the feds are charging facebook with discrimination. this is over targeted housing ads. the civil suit comes from housing and urban development. the charge stems from the investigation launched by the agency last year. multiple outside investigations found facebook's ad targeting and excluding people by race and ethnicity. overnight, wow air no longer

flies out of the bay area. as of this morning it doesn't fly period. the iceland based airliner has gone out of business. it used to fly out of the bay area to washington, d.c.. a full house house going back on the market. jeff franklin, creator and executive producer of the show is planning to sell the house. the price hasn't yet been set. neighbors say that home has been attracting a lot of tourists since he purchased it for a whopping $4 million. baseball is back. in just a few hours the oakland a's take to the field this morning for opening day. let's go live out to the coliseum. we have cameras outside as well as inside ahead of all of that fun. that first pitch is set for 1:05 this afternoon. the a's play the angels. as for the giants, the team is in san diego for a 1:10 game tonight. tomorrow's game airs on nbc bay
