[ cheers and applause ] >> an explosion of emotion in the courtroom from the 30-year-old victim's family and supporters after chanel lewis is found guilty on all counts. in 2016, vetrano went for a run in queens and never returned. her death set off a manhunt that gained nationwide attention. after sevens'on arrest. >> a taped interview was played for jurors in which the 22-year-old allegedly admits to the attack. defense lawyers insisted the confession was coerced. they also mad last-minute request for new hearings after an anonymous letter suggested

alternate suspects. a judge denied the motion. the nypd said the 11th hour letter was riddled with falsehoods and inaccuracies. after five hours of deliberation, jurors convicted lewis on four counts including murder and sexual abuse. sentencing is scheduled for april 17th, and he faces the possibility of life without parole. breaking overnight, police have identified a suspect in the killing of rapper nipsey hussle. the lapd is searching for a man named eric holder in connection to the deadly shooting. they say he was last seen in a white four-door chevy cruze. authorities in los angeles issued a citywide tactical alert overnight after at least one person was stabbed and 19 people were injured at a vigil for the murdered hip-hop artist. officials responds to a possible fight and reports of shots fired, but police later said the reports of gunfire did not appear accurate. manysion as crowd

immigration czar to oversee his policies across agencies. >> the associated press reports that mr. trump is considering either former kansas secretary of state kris kobach or former virginia attorney general ken cuccinelli. both candidates are immigration hardliners. nbc's tracie potts joins us with the latest from d.c. the focus is on immigration and health care here. >> reporter: exactly. let's start with immigration and the border because it could be a more immediate situation. the trump team says the president is serious about trying to shut down the border, possibly as early as a week from now. he has threatened to do so before, but those around the white house have suggested that the tone seems to be much more serious this time. the president later this week making a trip to the border. there are, in fact, a record number of families and unaccompanied children trying to enter the united states. the administration has shifted some customs and border patrol agents away from the ports of entry to try to situation.
