moving into the bay area. the rain is approaching san francisco. as we get a closer look at storm ranger, we can see we are seeing some of the showers moving through, especially parts of the north bay. so here's a look at what to expect as we go into the rest of the day. off and on showers starting to ramp up late morning, early afternoon. and of course that is when we will have first pitch. that makes things really iffy. we will continue to track that. and what's ahead for the rest of the day, into the weekend. mike says the freeways are clear. >> right now. traffic into san francisco midday. as the commute winds down, the rain comes in. we will watch the trend. green sensors for the speed sensors. no real drama. countercommute crash i-80 east bond, vallejo has cleared. the giants home opener in the early afternoon, midday, traffic

flow will build here. right now just the cash lanes on the left approach. back to you. all right. thanks, mike. well, a busy night for firefighters in the north behave. two cities, two separate be fires. and a lot of damage left behind. santa rosa, 140 people displaced after a fire in an apartment complex. the red cross is trying to help out the victims. people were clinging to balconies and carport rooftops when they arrived at the apartments last night. luckily, everyone made it out okay. it did take 40 minutes to get the fire under control. the fire department says there's about $500,000 in damage. so far no cause. bob redell is heading that way. he will bring us live reports coming up this morning. now to calistoga, fire-breaking out overnight at a maintenance facility a lot napa's cal fire headquarters.

one of the firestation appartatuses went up in flames on highway 29. it is a maintenance facility. there were a few fire trucks and other equipment inside. likely a total loss. just take a look at all that damage, how padly incident was damaged there. the fire, very bad news for north bay emergency crews who fend on that equipment to get a handle on wildfires. >> this crash 2:00 this morning near redwood city exit. one car flipped over. a 14-year-old boy is now in custody after he brutally beat and carjacked an elderly man in san jose. it happened earlier this week, and it was caught on video. police say that this was just the beginning. following the carjacking, he crashed into another car, pulled a gun on the witness who tried to stop him there. police eventually tracked him at

his san jose home where he was arrested. the 72-year-old man spoke with us about the young age and the suspected robber. >> i just hate to see him because he's under 18 or whatever, just to let him go with a spanking or something like that. he might do it again. >> the victim says he believes the teenager should be tried as an adult. in just a few hours, an assistant admissions director at stanford university is expected in court. 26-year-old is charged with attempted murder and domestic violence in what investigators are calling a drug-fueled attack. it's a story we first told you about last month. our investigative unit learned he allegedly stabbed a woman when he was experimenting with lsd. they were at a home in potrero hill. first hurdle cleared to make

pushing in. that's probably what i'm catching on the field. we have a beautiful sight. i want to take you through you your forecast. a little bit of a day part. you can kind of get the idea of the timing for this. at 11:00 a.m., temperatures comfortable, 57 degrees. we are monitoring the timing. it could impact the start of the game. first pitch 1:35. depending on the rain, it could delay the game. fans should come prepped and ready to wait it out as the rain comes through. in terms of the temperatures, it looks to be comfortable. we will cross our fingers. if we want to come out here live, you will probably notice behind me, they have that tarp set up and ready to go. i was talking to the groundskeepers. they have been up bright and early. i should say dark and early, making sheure everything is rea and baseball ready.

good morning. i'm frank holland at cnbc headquarters. wall street is set to open up with modest games this morning after stocks rose yesterday. the dow closing more than 150 points up as investors continue to watch for progress in the trade talks between the u.s. and china. on today's watch list, the monthly jobs report. the market is expecting a rebound in hiring as milder weather across the country likely boosted activity in areas such as construction.

sears is starting with openings instead of closing. it was rescued from possible liquidation in february. it plans to open three new sears home and life stores next month. one in alaska, one in louisiana, with unone in kansas. they will carry products from categories where sears has a definite strength, appliances, mattresses, and home services. sears has closed more than 3,500 stores as sales slumped. adidas signed a new deal with beyonce. they will relaunch her ivy park brand. they are try ig to attract more female consumers. adidas will work on creating performance and lifestyle products. that includes a signature shoe and clothing. women'swear accounts for a quarter of overall adidas sales. are you in the bey hive and are

as we go into late afternoon, early -- late morning into early afternoon. as we get a closer look, we can see the rain through parts of marin county. we are going to see that rain moving in with the storm system. and it has picked up in forward speed. so it will roll through fairly quickly. here's a look at the timeline. by 6:30, rain is starting to move into the north bay. a few pockets of heavy rain there. approaching san francisco by 9:00 to 10:00. the rest of the bay area starting to see that rain into early afternoon. and it looks like by about 3:00 to 4:00, we are starting to see clearing as it pushes off towards the east. but there will still be spotty showers through early tomorrow morning. so keep that in your saturday morning plans. here we are at 7:00. the last burst of rain moving through. as we look at how much rain we're expecting today, very little rain.

it just disappeared there. it will be very light for the south bay. up to a quarter for the north bay. here's a look at what you'll feel. low 60s today. mid-60s tomorrow. and then it stays mostly cloudy sunday. but it will be warm. we'll keep the dry weather into early next week. overnight crews, are they finishing up? >> it is friday. they are trying to finish early. the crew still on the richmond-san rafael bridge. only a couple of cars at a time heading across that portion. know if you find the cone zone, do slow down. the bridge will get crowded midday as folks head to the giants park. oracle park, that's the name. eastbound 80. a crash happened overnight. there is still police activity causing slowing. the crash has cleared, but the activity still blocks your slow lanes.

smooth drive from the south bay along the peninsula and east bay and tri-valley. again, that friday commute will see lighter volume. getting to giants ballpark, we have special services for the ferries out of alameda, oakland and water spur. giants has their train. special services before and after the game. back to you. all right. thanks, mike. right now the city of chicago is drawing up a civil complaint against santa rosa native jussie smollett after he missed the deadline to reimburse the chicago police department. this is for the costs tied to investigating the hate crime that he says he was the victim. they ordered him to pay $130,000. with the deadline now passed, the city is threatening to sue smollett. prosecutors dropped ought charges against the actor weeks after he was indicted for making a false report that he was attacked by two men. it is 4:49 right now.

possible body burning near veterans park in alameda. bystanders were able to put out the flames. when investigators arrived, they discovered that body. we spoke with park regulars who are in shock saying they always felt the park was safe. >> and i've always felt safe over here walking this trail. kind of up until now. as far as i know, nothing has ever happened over here. i never expected anything to happen here. >> 4:51. heartbreaking details involving a family of eight that plunged to their deaths last march. the mothers did it on purpose. here's the mendocino county sheriff. >> the hart family was hopeful live resting in peace. the tragedy of the six children murdered should never be forgotten. >> last year the couple adopted six children, and they drove off

a cliff along highway 1. authorities have tried to determine if it was an accident or intentional. yesterday a rare inquest determined the mothers died by suicide, while their children's deaths are classified as homicides. right before the crash, sarah hart searched whether drowning was painless. both mothers had alcohol and drugs in their systems. >> authorities in the north bay now investigating what turned into a deadly outing for a father and son. their car plunged down a hill in marin. this is the second time in two weeks someone has been killed driving in mt. tam state park. that car plummeted over the ridge crest boulevard yesterday. the unidentified father was pronounced dead at the time help arrived. his 13-year-old son is in critical condition this morning. about 11 days ago on the same street, a similar accident happened killing the driver.
